Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Mar 2012 11:01

Morning All,

Another beautifull day here and the garden is starting to look tidyer. I cleared up all the muck from out the front of the bungalow and I can now see the crazy paving stone that is out there.

Car passed it's MOT and I had a new switch on the drivers electric window and all in all it cost me £75, not bad I thought. Now I have the tax to do for the end of the month. MORE EXPENCE!!!!!

Oh got a new scarifier to tow behind the big mower yesterday. He had to put it all together and it works quite well. He put two growbags on it for a bit of extra weight. When you have soooooooo much grass as we have you could'nt possibly do it by hand or by the small electric ones you can buy.

He tells me we only have two more days of this nice weather and then it is going to get colder again. So must make the most of it and get some more done.

Ann I think that is disgusting about poor Gordon's appointment with the doc. I too have a little lump on a toe but think it could be a soft corn. It dos'nt trouble me so I leave it alone. I once had a corn between my toes and it took my ages to get rid of it but it did go in the end. Then I had walts come up on my hands and decided that was what I had had between my toes.

Poof Fitz, do give him my wishes when you next see him Jane.

Frank sounds like that trip out to Aldi was'nt so bad after all.

Hi to everyone else and well wishes to those who are a bit poorly.

Morning all,

Frank I have some mint growing out in the pool yard, but the cats pee on it. Apart from washing it, as you would, any suggestions?? It's the two toms from across the road. I haven't had my legs spanked in years, can't wait. ;-) Shirl can come with you!!!!!

Jane I was thinking the same as Fiona, you are a good friend to Fitz or just one of life's kind souls generally. Has he caught a bug from the hospital or just a result of the medications? I use the Hydra**** ice blocks when I'm dehydrated. Much easier on the tummy than trying to swallow liquids. Probably similar to what you have over there and good for young children too.

Weather has been beautiful here today, supposed to get a storm tonight which hasn't arrived.

Ann what a horrible experience for your OH. Happens a lot these days, they don't train 'em like they used to. Not allowed to hit the roof these days Frank, they'll call security!!! Hope he has better luck and a diagnosis next week Ann.

Found out tonight that one of my son's friends is currently in Afghanistan. He was just a young lad when I last saw him. Hard to believe he is over there fighting in a war.

Off to rub the shoulders, really sore. Yes I overdid the pruning :-D

Hope the weather stays nice over there, take care. 9.24 pm DST

Morning All.

Another warm morning here..better make the most of it if the waether is changing.

We also took our car in for a Mot and service on Monday..Oh dear it failed..Needed anew bit on the exhust .....which meant 2 bits as they couldnt seperate the bits... and another 2 items ...which I cant remember .. cost hubby over £400..It is a05 reg so I suppose things will start to show up now..

I was working yesterday afternoon in the charity shop....it was very warm in there and quite busy with people comming in and buying a few summery items..I bought a metal windchime for the garden which is very noisy compared to our wodden ones..lol I will look out for some more garden items when they appear.

Jane your nursing came in handy with Fitz..hope he and Janice are on the mend.
Ann I hope your hubby isint put off by doctors now.. and the next one gives him a better answer.
Mel..I would love a bigger garden than what I have now..Yours sounds so nice out in the country but hard work.

Afternoon Everyone.

Sunshine still here but much cooler than the last few days, there's a bit of a wind , so I have got washing on the line. haven't used my tumble dryer now for a least 5 days.

I'm feeling a bit weary today, got the cold that OH had last week , woke up in the middle of the night with a dry and tickly cough. so I am tired, might just a lie down this afternoon for a while, nothing much happening today.

Frank

Frank Report 29 Mar 2012 14:51

Kim, I would put some sticks around your mint and wind cotton/thread around. Or if you can get some holly,or prickly twigs, put those on. (THEY DON'T LIKE IT UP 'UM) We can get a powder over here that you sprinkle around to deter cats. Have a look in a garden centre.

Ros, has cleaned all the windows, inside and out. Wouldn't let me up the steps. I wonder why !!!! I have set some more potatos in bags. and set the mint plants. I have loads of raddish showing through, also some cos lettuce. Will get the hose out this evening and give all the trays a water. I have been using thew water butts, but they are starting to get low. Will have to fill those, before the ban

I think I mentioned before, I had a big fall out with my Doctors surgery, over not having Ros's pain relief ready when they told me to collect it. I had a letter from the Pratice Manager, threatening to take me off the doctors list. I rang him up, but he was on "HOLIDAY" I would haved torn him off a strip if I could have spoken to him. I did get a lletter of apology in the end.

Pork Chops tonight with our own Rice and veg idea. Better than you buy in a packet. Birds Eye use to do a great one years ago, but haven't seen it since.

I see Hovis is bringing back the advert. about the war VE day the 60s up to present time. When that first came out I congratulated them on the advert, and had a very nice e-mail reply.

Going back to read my book in the sunshine, while it lasts.

I thought it was about time I said hello today. It's so late :-S
I saw Fitz this morning and he looked a lot better than yesterday.I think his anti nausea meds are helping and he was having a Yoghurt and some Bread sticks :-D
I won't see him now until Monday when I take him to get his staples out at his surgery. It is his youngest Sons engagement do at the weekend and there are family coming to stay. Not the best timing ,and I think Fitz will probably spend a lot of the time up in his bedroom as 3 young children will be there and I know they are very lively.

I had a ridiculously bad nights sleep last night (bit like yours Frank :-S)and have been a bit like a wet weekend today.Hopefully it will be a better one tonight.
The window cleaners came this afternoon.I was so pleased as all the windows downstairs on the patio were covered in dirty splatters from the power washer.I should have them to give my car the once over. It's filthy :-S

Ann that was bad (at your surgery). It sounds as though that young Dr is not ready to be on her own yet :-| :-|.I wonder how many other patients were unhappy with her.She sounded as though she was out of her depth.

What a beautiful evening.Better make the most of it I think as I think it going to start clouding up now over the next few days.

Jane Report 29 Mar 2012 18:26

Have you all got enough petrol :-D :-D :-D ;-) ;-)
I did fill mine up this morning ,but only because James is taking it to Kent on Saturday to see Jess for a few days.It does all get silly doesn't it.And the price!!! :-S :-S.
Had a letter today to say we will be going on a water meter sometime soon.Have any of you got one?,and do you tend to be more aware of the amount of water you use?

Mel you are lucky having your well.I hope it doesn't dry up this summer.Chris is water the garden as I type.

I had the Dentist this morning.Nearly forgot all about it :-.But all is well and he was very pleased with all my teeth and gums :-D :-D.(phew)

I suppose I had better go and put the oven on now.Not a difficult meal .Pork Steaks with a spicy apple stuffing (not homemade),new potatoes and several different veg.It doesn't seem like 6.30 because of the light evening.

Evening All,

Another lovely day! :-D We went to take OH's car in for a regas this morning at 9.00 am. (in case Frank thought I wasn't up!! :-)) This is the 3rd time in 3 years now. Anyway when he picked it up later the man said it had no gas in at all. He said there was a major leak somewhere but they couldn't find it. He said because it was climate control rather than just aircon a new unit would be over £500 so it might be cheaper to carry on regassing it. (£89 a time) He suggested OH bring it back in 6 weeks and they will see if the can find the leak then. Seems however you look at it.....MORE EXPENSE!

Glad your car passed it's MOT Mel.....sorry yours didn't Pat! Did anyone see that tip on Super*crimpers about rubbing candlewax in the grooves where your car windows run to stop them freezing or sticking (expensive repair if they do apparently.......must remember to do mine).

Glad Fitz seemed a bit brighter today Jane. I bet he will be more comfortable when those staples come out on Monday. Yes, I think that doctor was out of her depth. Disgraceful though that she had no-one to turn to. If her training doctor was in a meeting, a deputy should be in place for her to call on......if no deputy, then they shouldn't book appointments for her at those times......it isn't rocket science. Not many people dare complain these days, what with intimidating notices all over the surgery and the threat of being struck off, so an opportunity for feedback and improvement is closed and the surgery thinks all is hunky dory.

The supermarkets around here were running out of diesel yesterday. I had to drive to 2 to find some and then 3 pumps had none!! Got some nice Egyptian bath towels from Sain*bury's a third off.

Frank I often have a mooch around Al*i and Li*l. Like Jane says, some of the things are really good yet much cheaper. Hope the wine you got is ok.

I did a bit of sorting out and weeded the pots this afternoon then took some books up to the dog's home. In the only kennel you can see from outside was a really pretty tri-colour Jack Russell called Poppy. Still a puppy, it said she had too much energy for her owner!! I had to stop myself mentally fitting her into my car!! lol

Think I'm off to bed......overdone it on the garden and my back is aching in protest. Shan't be doing any tomorrow though so it will get a rest. After my class we are going to Hinckley and then to MIL's. She is seeing the consultant about her bladder tomorrow so we'll hear what he said......well eventually!! She always gives the FULL story.....we got up at.....the carpark was empty/full, there were 'x' number of people waiting, 2 went in the first room, they were running ten minutes behind, the receptionist's name was......etc you get the gist!!

I bought some stamps today....before the price rise! Two books of first class, 3 books of second class, £24!! I can't remember how much they were in 'old money' when I was young. Perhaps the Postmaster knows!! lol

Morning All,

Bit dull and dreary here this morning but I am hoping it is going to get nicer later on.

Off to the garden center this morning and to Holsworthy. Not our usual garden center but one the other way nearly into Bude. I like their own make of potting compost. No grit in it so you seem to get more.

Not caught up on your posts yet.

Morning Mel and all
It's cloudy here too this morning ,but bright cloud (if that makes sense)The sun is up there somewhere waiting to come through.

Ann,nothing is cheap where cars are concerned is it :-S.How often do you think the air con will have to be re gassed?I couldn't be without A/C nowadays. In fact I tend to have it on almost all year round :-|
Hope your MIL gets on OK with the consultant today.

Have sent an email to you all .It is rather sad but with a happy ending.I had to use a tissue or two :-(

Right I have things to get on with this morning so will BBL

Morning to everyone,

It has been another nice day here. OH took sheets off the beds so washing is hanging on the line overnight, no rain please. A bit more pruning today, very gentle - looks like my Lilly Pilly is going to croak it. The other one is beautiful and healthy, can't understand what's gone wrong.

Frank will get onto that with the mint. I don't know why those little ******* come to our place. They have just about killed off all the plants lining the driveway. The powder option sounds good, I think they like mint in particular from what I can remember in my young days when my mother had the same problems.

Jane lovely email, I saw it on Fb the other day. The poor little dog, I didn't think it had a hope. Amazing what a little kindness and TLC can achieve. Hope you see vast improvement in Fitz when you visit him next week. What's happening with Janice?

Rod's wife came in today with some wonderful news that she is going to be a grandmother. Her daughter Kim is having a baby girl due in August, so they had been shopping for all the bibs and bobs. What a shame grandfather will not be here to see his little girl. He would have been terrific in that role.

Fiona sorry you are not well. Coughing is horrible, especially at night. Get well soon.

We had gnocchi and salmon for tea, something different and very tasty. OH found a recipe on the internet.

Miranda has now finished her exams, so 3 weeks off school. I think some of the pressure has lifted off me and the house. She worked last night when she should have been studying. :-S :-S

Off to have a cuppa. Hopefully BBL 9.11 pm DST (just) clocks change tomorrow night.

Back from being out!!

Got my garden paint I use on my canes. Since I have been painting them I have'nt had trouble with red spider mite in the tunnel. Whenever I bought new canes they seemed to be in them already so tried the painting bit and hay presto no spider mite the last two years.

Oh got his lawn sand and grease for the digger as one of the roller barings went and he had to have a new one as it was a sealed unit. He needs tyhe grease to get the track back on and his gun had run out. He also got weed and feed. I bought a touch weeder for my border as I have some troublesome twitch in there and bindweed (grandfather grandfather jump out of bed) any one remember saying that and popping the flower out of it's calex??

I also bought another perennial Geranium called Splish Splash, it is blue and white mottled. Also got two packs of Sweet William's for the border. Always give a nice show and smell so good too. Nice to pick for the house.

Oh needed deisel so we qued for a while at the garage in Holsworthy on the road to bude. When we came back they had none left.

Frank Report 30 Mar 2012 12:28

Afternoon All,

Very late today, don't know if I am coming or going.

Was on the phone to Harvey about something or other, when the door bell went. It was the postman with packets of beads for Ros and a UV light for the pond.

Ros had gone to Tesc# to try to get Jersey Royals But as every day she's been in they are sold out. phone rand again, It was my old friend from Kettering. He was on the phone for over half an hour. Had a good laugh about the old times.

Jane, We had a water meter in the house when we moved in. The neighbours didn't, they were on water rates. Their bills were twice mine, and I was watering the garden all the time, which they never do. So I think you will have a pleasent surprise, when you get it fitted.

Ann, Not sure about old money cost of stamps, apart from mail to India in the early 50s was 1/6d airmail. and in 1984., When I did the 1st day cover for the reopened tunnel at Blisworth I was 16p

Well I had better go and get dressed.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 30 Mar 2012 12:46

We are on a meter for the water as it is a horticultural residence. The trouble with us is they don't always read the meter and estimate a lot of the time. When we had the nursary we used a lot of water but now we don't have that we use much less. It is better to have a meter.
