We had hail this afternoon the sky was so black I thought we were in for a storm .
Just rang the doctors and explained I had rung and why and she yes its gone through to the doctor but she hasn't been in today she's in tomorrow so I have to wait another day .
I didn't have my iron tablet this morning i thought one day won't hurt and my tummy has kept the food down better today .

I wondered if Ann's hostas had been chewed by a squirrel, we had a couple of pots that we had taken plants out and just left the compost in when I forked them over last year it was full of monkey nuts I kept digging one out after another ,poor thing must have had a shock when he tried to dig them up .
I know next door has a box of nuts and when I've looked out the bedroom window I've seen the squirrel lifting the lid and getting the nuts out but they are peanuts without the shell ,they sit on their greenhouse and eat them then hop down for another one .

Twice I got the Error message indicating that my post hadn’t gone through but I now see it has posted twice. I’ll delete one of them.

I hate marmite. OH loves it and spreads it so thick that he gets through a large pot in no time. He also likes honey and even the smell of that makes me nauseous. I wonder how we ever got married as we seem to be incompatible in most things, lol.

Annx, I have the deluxe version of the Nagometer. It is always fully charged and ready to go at any minute ;-). I hope you can get your squirrel problem sorted. I’m sure your hostas will recover as long as the roots aren’t damaged. They are tough old plants.

I am surprised the copper tape hasn’t worked well for you AnnG. We’ve been using it for years and years now and think it’s great. The only times we’ve had problems is if we’ve put a pot too near a fence or wall that the snails can climb up and miss the tape. I believe they get a bit of an electric shock if they touch the tape which stops them in their tracks. It’s good that Jake will be back tomorrow. I hope the weather lets him get on with painting.

I hope someone from your surgery has rung by now Mandy. If not, you might have to contact them again.

We had our Covid jabs this afternoon and my arm aches already. It was a new vaccine this time called Spikevax. We were only out for 35 minutes and that included a 10 minute walk in each direction so it was very quick. Just as we got to the end of our road on the way back it started raining quite heavily and it was definitely sleety.

I took a pack of mixed fish from the freezer this morning with the idea of having fish pie for dinner so I’d better go and start preparing it.

Yes Mel, I have always liked marmite.
Mandy I like marmite on cream crackers as well. Hope the doctor rings soon, if not you might need to contact them again.

Ann I sent you a link re the Hostas. Semms it is quite common too.

Just back from lunch at the golf club, the first time I have been in there since September 2020. I found it a bit emotional remembering all the good times. I didn't see any of Tony's old playing buddies but any that are still playing might have finished before we got there. It was very busy as it is a lovely day. 12 degrees but with a very cold breeze. Had ham, egg and chips , too much ham but it was cooked by the chef and really nice and the fries were good as well. And the eggs were runny. with a medium glass of Shiraz £15 very good value.

Just heard from Jake's partner that he can come round tomorrow to do the painting. So it will be good to get that done out of the way.

Ha ha Mel. He's perked up now and he got a call to say the meeting was cancelled. We need to fetch some more migraleve from the chemist next as he has run out and is worried in case there is a shortage of them.

The general consensus is we have a squirrel and, if so, I think maybe one dropped a peanut in the plant and it was trying to reach it, so nibbled through some of the leaf stems to get at it.

The lock man has been and oiled the lock linkage and adjusted the door at the hinge and it seems better so we'll see how that goes.

That was a strange dream Mel, a bit like some I get to do with toilets! Are the white girls performing?

OH is ready for the off so I'd better get ready.

I like the 'Nagometer' I don't need one of those now but there again it may come in useful with BIL.

Annx Report 24 Apr 2024 12:21

Morning All,

I've been up and showered since 7.15am as the man is coming to look at our new front door lock today as it keeps catching. He could be here anytime between 8.00am and 5.00pm so it could be a long and useless day, as I can't settle to anything or be outside till he's been. Why oh why they can't at least say am or pm I don't know.

OH had a migraine last night, then this morning he had a dream about having a migraine and woke up to find he was actually having one. So I left him slumbering in bed while he left me to deal with the door lock man when he comes. There is always some reason I seem to be left to deal with workmen. He says they respond much better to me, but I think that's an excuse so he doesn't need to be involved! I have reminded him that dehydration can trigger migraines too, so he's decided he needs a lifestyle overhaul now! lol. That may last a few days if we're lucky, so I'll have to threaten him with a 'nagometer'. :-D

I've sent pics of my Hosta and the fallen leaves. I can only think it must be another bunny. Yes, we have the Pigeons back in the garden AnnG and there were 2 out there this morning. They have never bothered with the Hostas before though. The Hosta by the bungalow wall is ok, but anything coming close to that would trigger the security light.

Better go and heat up a home made ready meal from the freezer now as OH has a zoom meeting before long. I hope this chap doesn't turn up in the middle. BBL.

O good some of you are about. Glad you hav'nt been this morning.Have you tried having a little orange juice on your cornflakes, it would wet them down a bit and if its no dairy you could maybe have some vitalite on your crakers. I love Marmite as did our Frank.

It came over really black a while ago just as I was going to go to the post vanthen we had a few spots and then the sun came out again but the breeze is freezing. its 11 degrees and pc says mostly cloudy.

I got some crumpets out of the freezer last night and the wrapping had vacumed on them squeezing them tight. The looked awful but I have just eaten three of them and they were fine. They were Warburtons crumpets but I have never had that happen before.

Its our big birthday tomorrow 16 years we have been going. :-D :-D :-D

Just busy Mel. OH took our friend V for a blood test this morning but he’s back now. We both have our Covid jabs this afternoon.

It’s another horrible day. It’s cold and grey and now it’s pouring again :-(

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Apr 2024 08:37

Morning all,

Quite bright here today with some sunshine and pc says 6 degrees and partly sunny.

Slept well and got up at 5.14 for the loo and went back to sleep till 8am. Had a strange dream again but can't remember much of it but I was at a neighbours house and had to use their loo when I thought they were'nt looking and they came in just as I finished and then I was in the garden and someone had dug a big square hole about 5 foot deep and lined it with paving slabs.

Hope Mandy gets some answers today about the meds she is on and gets something done to make her feel a lot bettter as its going on a long while now and can't be doing her any good.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Apr 2024 08:35

Good morning all 7 degrees here and very grey at the moment. Weather forecast for this area is not very promising. Weekend could be ok and quite warm then next week early quite wet and temp 1 degree. I do hope May is an improvement.

Ann thanks for the photo, I like that style of pot, can look very impressive with the right plants.

My hostas are not doing very well at all, even the copper tape doesn't seem to be deterring slugs or snails. But yours does sound strange. Do you have wood pigeons in the garden? I notice I have them back again, visiting in groups of three or four so probably a family.

Mandy I hope the doctor did phone you yesterday and that they were able to help you. Have you tried dry toast instead of cream crackers, but make sure you sip water with both. My go to would probably be toast with marmite. But that is a matter of taste.

Annx Report 23 Apr 2024 18:29

Afternoon All,

What a miserable day here today. Drizzly rain, dull and quite chilly. We got my car fuelled at last this morning and a visit to a nearer garden centre afterwards. OH talked me into a vegetarian breakfast (I think that's why he wanted to come with me!). They won't swap breakfast items at this garden centre and I won't have sausage I won't eat, so the vegetarian one with two eggs is a better option. I particularly wanted to look at their wool, but they only seemed to have very large balls and nothing a colour I fancied.

Mandy, if it's any help, online it suggests the liquid iron is better tolerated. I don't know but suppose if it is by injection it bypasses the tummy and intestines where it can cause irritation and so problems. See what your GP says anyway, but I suspect she will want you to keep taking some iron medication, either a lower dose or injections. If you keep needing the loo, if it hasn't been suggested, it might be an idea to get some packets of rehydration salts from the chemist to replace what you lose when you have to keep going! Dioralyte is one make.

Vera, it was your turn today with a surly assistant then! How rude to not even say thank you for a donation. The young girl at the pharmacy was much better. We had a good assistant serve us at the Co-op today. She asked if we'd like her to pack our bag, which most don't, and packed it quickly and properly with the right things at the bottom of the bag and nothing squashed or upside down.

I'm with you about mealworms in the fridge......no thank you! My ex BIL kept roadkill in the freezer as he did taxidermy and that would have put me off as well.

Our Robin still comes for the dried mealworms and the Magpies if they can hang on long enough to get at any!

AnnG I will send a pic of the plastic pots we bought. It'd not a brilliant one as I took it at the garden centre so I could show OH.

We have a new problem with our Hostas in pots, or at least with one of them up to now. Yesterday I noticed about half a dozen leaves lying on the chippings around one of the pots. I went out and had a closer look today, thinking they had fallen off the plant for some reason, but no they hadn't. Apart from one or two holes that I thought was the snails, nothing else on the plant or the other ones has been eaten. Something has just chewed through near the base of the leaves and let them drop. I'm wondering now whether relatives of baby Bugs Bunny that ate the Violas last year are coming in the garden? He never touched the Hostas last year, but I suppose they have different tastes like us.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 23 Apr 2024 18:04

No call yet .

I use to buy the dried mealworm and the pigeons always cleared them up before the little birds had a look in, I don't think I could have the live ones in the fridge though.
Well my tea was interesting three cream crackers and a banana.and lunch was the same .

I'm waiting for some different blood pressure tablets they should be in boots and son was talking to a parent at the school that works in there and she's going to get them ready in the morning for him to collect.
When he went in the doctors to get me an appointment last Friday the lady on the desk had just told the woman in front of son that there was no more appointments but he knew the lady as one of the parents from school and she said leave it to me ill get her in , not what you know its who you know .

Vera if the young girl was only 16 or so perhaps she's not allowed to handle any drugs and can only use the computer and that's why the other assistant went and got your meds .

SuffolkVera Report 23 Apr 2024 16:41

I’m back again.

I had also wondered if you meant live mealworms Mel. I’ve only ever had dried ones but I’ve stopped putting them out now as none of the birds touch them, even if I soak them in water. In fact the only thing our birds will eat are sunflower hearts and occasionally they will peck at fat balls. I don’t think I’ll be buying live mealworms and I definitely don’t want them in the fridge. I had enough of that when my son lived at home and kept live fishing bait in the fridge.

I hope the doctor rings you back Mandy. You might have to be persistent if he doesn’t and keep chasing him up. I’d forgotten about iron injections. At the age of 12 I used to go to the hospital twice a week for those and I also had them regularly in the later part of my pregnancies but that was a very long time ago and I had completely forgotten them.

We went into town this afternoon and delivered two large sacks to one of the charity shops. I think we met the twin of Annx’s surly lad. I waited outside while OH went in with the bags. When he didn’t reappear I went in. He said he didn’t think anyone was around but from the angle I was I could see someone in the back watching him so I loudly said I would ring the bell on the counter. The person in the back moved forward. I couldn’t tell whether it was a him or a her - maybe “they” identified as something else. He/she said “Fought you was looking round. Didn’t know you ‘ad bags”. OH explained we had just brought in some donations at which he/she said “OK”, grabbed the bags and was gone. Not a smile, a thank you or anything.

Then we went to the pharmacy. What a contrast. I was greeted by a little girl who came to my waist and had the biggest smile. She looked about 9 and reminded me of my youngest granddaughter when she used to play shops. I wondered if she was a child of one of the assistants but she listened to what I had come for and operated the computer fine and another assistant went off to find my meds. While she was gone this little girl grinned at me non-stop - in fact, it was just getting a little embarrassing when my meds arrived. On the way out I saw a notice asking for applications for apprentice medical counter assistants so I reckon she was the first and was probably about 16. If she keeps her smile and nice attitude she’ll be an asset to them.

I’ve been rambling on again haven’t I. Better leave you in peace now.

I will stick to the dry ones Mel. Your birds are spoilt :-D
gosh that was quick for your card. Well done your bank and your post office delivery. I am convinced that we only get two or sometimes three deliveries a week. I am not the only one who thinks this.
