I take it the new telly is larger, makes everything look BIGGER William!!!!lol ;-)
I love Timothy Spall.......wasn't he in that tv series of the Dickens? book about the will.......got it! Mr Smallweed in Bleak House....kept saying 'shake me up Judy'.

Did any of you 'older boys' watch the Will Hays films? FIL loved them and has DVDs of a lot of them.

Shirl, you must be fed up with all these eye problems and then the GR problems too. I hope your eyes improve soon as it must be worrying for you having these things happen with them.

The monster had a good time in Europe then! I remember being very impressed with the cleanliness in Austria and Switzerland too. I 'm afraid I can't email you at the moment or receive any as that account has been blocked by my provider as somehow someone else has been using it!!! :-S

I bet Sofia wanted a cuddle when it went dark in the tunnel Fiona! OH is not keen on long tunnels even now.

Pilgrim Father,we used to go to a matinee at a cinema known as the OLYMPIA

Think it cost 6d thats two and half modern money.

We saw a film,a serial,and a cartoon.

We were known as the ABC minors.

There was a ditty, wrnt something like

"We are the boys and girls
well known as,
The minores of the ABC"

I forget the rest,if I ever knew it.

Nearby in Northumberland Street there was another cinema called TATLER

It showed non stop cartoons.
It cost a shilling to get in (12pence)
They screened maybe half a dozen cartoons then showed them again and again.
You could be in there all day if you wanted.

Morning All,

You have been busy posting and it took me ages to catchup.

I had a memory from a lady called Sue so I am posting it on here.

Subject: the good old days

Mel,
Yes,
I can remember Eiffel Tower lemonade crystals, 3d back on R Whites,Smiths crisps with the blue waxed salt bag and best of all Pan Yan Pickle YAY! oops sorry, didn't mean to shout, but you are right I always thought it was better than Branston(sweeter). There was a desert called Sweetheart, Bob Monkhouse used to advertise it on TV, it was basically a fruit puree that you mixed with milk to make it up, and wot about Swisskit- the first museli bar, the 'hook' used on the tv ad was 'I'll risk it flor a Swisskit'. Curly Wurlies,Spangles,Fruit Salads and was it Blackjacks(the aniseed flavoured ones?), also, I used to buy little pieces of yellow coloured chewing gum in a small drawstring bag, I think it was called 'Gold Nuggets' or something like that. Ah, happy days, so many memories!
Sue

Shirl I hope everything goes well with your eye treatment. Keep your pecker up as Jane said.

I am taking the car in for it's MOT today so maybe back later.

Morning all,

Mel thanks for that wonderful photo. You have some fantastic birdlife over your way. Too built up here to see some of our own native birds.

Maureen I think you should get that dress too. Must be very nice if you kept going back to it.

Shirl your poor eye. Lots of love from me. <3

Jane hope Fitz and Janice are improving and Fitz is resting as he should be. Daughter has been doing exams - Legal Studies tomorrow. Not motivated in the study department, she's left her run until the last minute and is now cramming. Bl**dy hell!!!

Hello Pilgrim Father, I'm from Oz. so I definitely don't know that ditty. I do remember the Saturday morning movies though. All the lovely old movie houses are now gone. :-(

Sorry I can't remember what you've all posted as I went and had dinner - fish pie tonight and so delicious.

The weather has been lovely and sunny last two days. Yesterday I did some light pruning and fed some plants, until OH got me inside. Today I did some washing and pruned some of the vines growing over from next door. Pooped is what I am now. :-S Rain and storms forecast for tomorrow.

Frank I hope you had a better sleep last night. It would be lovely to walk along your canals. Stay well.

The new Titanic mini-series is on it's way here, but so far some of you aren't impressed. I was looking forward to it as I wasn't keen on the movie. I didn't know that one Australian girl survived and she went on to marry her English fiance who was meant to be ship's doctor, but was transferred at the last minute. They went on to have happy lives and are buried at a big cemetery down in Sydney.

Sheila when you find that magic wand, let me know and thank you for your kind comments. Lots of tragedy in your family over the last 12 months. I hope Michelle goes on to a better life and it is only natural that you miss both your SIL's. I will have a re-read so I can comment on what you have written. All the best with the trip to Wales on the weekend; that won't be easy.

Liz hasn't been on for a while.

Have a good day, your weather sounds wonderful. Don't get sunburnt!!!

Morning all you sun worshipers, !!!

What a great morning, All showered and shaved, Had my three cups of tea and bacon sarnie. Still in dressing gown, but have been down the garden, to open the greenhouse.

We have a new ALD# open in Towcester. So ros wants to take me there for a look round (BORING OR WHAT)

Glad a few old memories are being stired up by new faces, it will get our grey stuff working. ??

Shirl, Who will look after who ???? If I come out there, the chances are you would never get rid of me, Canada, has always been somewhere I would like to visit.

Trust the car goes through the MOT allright MEL You don't need "MORE EXPENCE"

Had a better night last night. Woke at 5.30 for a P. Dropped of again and dreampt for the rest of the night. Some very queer things, only little bits still in my mind.

Afternoon all
Poor old Fitz :-S.Being awful sick and the trots.I took down the Yoghurts that I bought and he was sat on the settee looking pretty ropey. He said he had been sick on his bedding this morning after his OH had left for work.So I bunged everything in the washing machine and then got it out on the line. His GP came while I was there. He needs to do a poo sample and has a prescription for Dioralite.Sachets of stuff you mix with water for when you are dehydrated with having the runs etc.Made his bed up again and helped him sort out his bedside drawer with tablets he is not allowed to take any more.In between all this we sat in the garden and enjoyed the hot sun.He did buck up and we had a good old natter about his family history.I am hoping to be able to start having a look at some interesting stuff soon, when he is well enough to dig out some names and dates :-D
He showed me all his dressings, and I noticed one was missing .All the staples were on show ,so I popped a new one on for him.

So I have done absolutely nothing at home today other than one load of washing. :-S

Jane Report 28 Mar 2012 16:21

Frank you might enjoy a little visit to Ald*.Have a rummage through some of the things. They often have some really good buys. It's just pot luck really.I got a really good Mattress topper in there a couple of years ago.£15 BARGAIN :-D
They some decent wine too.I often go and buy continental cold meats and cheeses there.
Phew it is hot out there!.Just dug out a very creased top from last summer.I hope no-one comes knocking.

Fiona

Fiona Report 28 Mar 2012 16:48

Jane , you are a great Friend & Nurse, Fitz is so lucky to have you close by,
I remember Dioralyte Sachets , pink stuff ( I think they have different flavours now) Dr used to give me them for my girls if they got tummie bugs and the runs,
Mind you they had to be really poorly to drink them not all that nice to taste, lol

Still sunny here, but not as hot, OH just phoned to say he had landed in Edinburgh and would be home in an hours time.

Frank

Frank Report 28 Mar 2012 17:38

Afternoon all,

Left home at 11.30 this morning. Went to Ald# walked every isle, and picked up odd and soods. Also bought more Mint plants, peppers, cuecumber, and some plants for the boarder. Very good selection of wine at only £2.99 Bought a bottle to try. !!! if I like it will get more. Oh how it has changed from the days when everything was in box's on the floor. My son-in-law was the Manager of one in Kettering many years ago. I would think if you are prepared to try non-branded goods, you might find the flavour OK. Think it will be worth trying, you could save a fortune.

We then went into town for Ros to make a Hair appointment for 11th before we go to Hastings on the 12th. As is is in the same area as Morriso#s we went in for a bite to eat. F & C for me, Sausage egg and chips for Ros. We couldn't eat it all. Then on to Tesc# to fill up with petrol and take some shorts back that didn't fit me (TO BIG) not me, the shorts. :-D :-D :-D. We got home at 4.45. so had a good day out. Temp in car showed 21.5 on way home. Still very warm out there now.

Kim, Nice to see you are doing a little in the garden. DON'T OVER DO IT
or else, I will be over and smack your legs. :-0 :-0 :-0. I will be well traveled won't I.!!

Sorry to hear Fitz isn't too good Jane, is it from thre medication that's making him unwell ???

How did your PAM PAM get on today Mel, passed I hope. !!

Fiona, You are a little devil, always out for coffees, do you go to the same place each time, or travel around ??

More football tonight. Inter Milan V Barcellona. so I will be down this end of the dinning room, with my tele on in the conservatory. A few beers by my side, so I will be as Happy as Larry.

Annx Report 28 Mar 2012 20:09

Evening All,

Sorry to hear Fitz was feeling ropey and poorly this morning Jane. I hope it is something that wears off soon. I shouldn't think he was up to that 500 metres......another day for that I think. Sitting outside for a chat must have helped and getting him thinking about his family history too. Who knows what other surprises there might be!!

OH had a right fiasco at the doctors this morning.....I still can't believe it. He'd gone to have a small lump on the top of his toe looked at, as it didn't look like a corn and wasn't where it would rub on his shoe. The doctor he saw was a new doctor in training, he thinks. She started 'googling' and said she wasn't sure what it was, but kept on trying to get his agreement that it looked like a corn! OH was non commital and thought 'who is the expert here?' :-S She told him she couldn't get the training doctor to come and give an opinion as he was in a meeting and she suggested OH go and see a Chiropodist first (EXPENSE!!) and if he said it wasn't a corn to come back!! OH said, 'do you not deal with things like this then?' and she said, 'we may have done once, but not anymore'. When OH came home and told me, we were not happy at the prospect paying a Chiropodist to do the diagnosing, so he decided to go to the chemist and ask what they thought. They took one look and said it was definitely NOT a corn or verrucca and that he needed to see his doctor!!!! Now he is back to square one and has had to make yet another appointment next week to see this doctor, with another doctor present to get it sorted.

Imagine if you had had to pay taxis twice to get to the doctors and for the cost of a chiropodist and didn't have a lot of money.......not good enough is it!!!

Frank

Frank Report 28 Mar 2012 21:51

Nobody around ???

Ann I think I would have raised the roof if I had some trainee telling me that, I would have demarnded to see a proper Doctor. And to expect your OH to go back and see her again, Insult to injury comes to mind. I know they have to train, but should be with an experienced doctor to supervise.

Good night all.
