My MIL died 8 years ago in hospital.
She had turned 80
After her husband died in a tragic bathroom accident her house was sold
and she was placed in a private nursing home,
MIL had been crippled with arthritis all over her body for 40 yearsfollowing a fall.
MiL had to be bathed, toited, fed by strangers.
The reason she died in hospital was because of large bed sores on her bum and back and dehydration.
MIL had jugs of water on her locker and fruit juices etc.
I got the impression the only time she was taking them was when Ellen or I visited her.
Her artificial knees were ulcerating. She never complained.
I wonder if she was scared to?
The sister at the hospital said to my wife, she's got the worst bed sores Ive ever seen, and Ive seen some.
She was elderlty, frail, vulnerable and I think neglected.

Morning All, Evening Kim
Another sunny morning , but have not been out yet so it will probably be a bit chilly.

Not got a lot on today, OH and I have to be down at the T.* B for a meeting about 2.30 pm and then I need to go to the post office .

Hoping my new shoes and slippers arrive in the post today ordered them last Sunday from PAV*RS , they do a good selection of size 2 and there so comfy.

Time for a coffee, yes I have started to drink coffee again , but making sure it's DECAFF, the smell in the coffee shop where I go on a Wednesday was driving me crazy, so I have tea when I get up, I have a cup of coffee in the morning and my hot chocolate in the afternoon. and my warm milk at night,
Family say's I need to get a Mamma mo,
Thats what they call daughter no 1 when Matteo wakes up and wants fed,
personally I don't think I would want to be called Mamma mo but daughter doesn't seem to mind
:-D

Neglect big time David. That is very sad and so unavoidable :-( :-(. and disgraceful that anyone need die from bedsores when they are supposedly being cared for by professionals. Was the home investigated?
It looks like it could be brightening up a little now.I'm wondering whether to put washing out or not.
While I think about that I will enjoy this lovely mug of coffee that James has made :-D

Goodness David, that is truly dreadful and in the wake of recent 'news' very disturbing. Your MIL could well have been afraid to complain, we used to find this when I was in the care business, clients would be very loath to complain as they were afraid that they would be penalised or blacklisted as 'trouble makers' making it difficult to run an obvious problem to earth.. Part of my job was to talk to anyone who we felt were nervous of care, or who didn't want a particular carer. Not an easy job as you could also get a situation where a client just didn't like a carer and would 'gun for them'; Even relatives could be reticent over a problem as they too were worried that their 'rellie' (and they) would be perceived as 'trouble' and asked to go elsewhere - would anyone else take 'client' if their reputation went before them?! None of it easy!

Pinch punch to you all,

Dull misserable day here, nothing on the cards to do, so will get my shower and shave, and read my book

I watch Hew Fernley-Whithinstall last night on the serious fish problem around the world. Soon there won't be any fish left to eat. Asia is dredging everything from the sea bed, even in the restricted areas, most fish are so small, they go for making fish meal, to feed the prawn factories. So gawd knows what we are eating. TESC# is one of the biggest buyers. There is everything in the feed from fish, crabs, snails, sea irchins, star fish. You name it it's in there, mushed down and down till just a powder. there are two grades. He is trying to protect our fishing around the coast. The govenment don't seem to want to know. So start getting use to eating HORSE. that looks a likely replacement :-D :-D :-D

Yes, we saw that programme too Frank and found it deeply depressing. I think Hugh F.W is beating his against the proverbial brick wall, heaven only knows where it will all end - barren seas I guess and politicians wringing their hands!!!!! no change there!!!
Wild Arabia tonight, should be more cheerful!!!

Afternoon all ,Evening Kim ,

Dull here today no sun and we had a little drizzle earlier.

Here i sit with a plaster on my throbbing finger , used the steam mop this morning and you have to push on a little button to release the handle ,well it nipped the end of my finger !! bleed ,blood every where ,i hardly dare look to see what i'd done ,and now i seem to be catching it on every thing .

What a shame the shoes don't fit Fiona ,still at least the slippers do , the shoes must be a wide fitting if the fall off your feet ,what tiny feet you have :-)

There was a programme with Hugh on several months ago where he was with the fisherman on their boat looking at the amount of fish the fisherman have to just put over board ,Hugh was on the boat throwing the fish to people on the beach .
He wouldn't have been allowed to give the fish away if he stood on the beach but as he was on the boat he was allowed to do it , and people were snapping it up .

No cooking tonight , there was some Shepherds pie and veg left from last night so will just reheat that job done :-D

Better get some ironing done now .

OUCH ! Mandy that sounds sore :-S.Any excuse not to do any more housework ;-)

My car is FIXED :-D :-D :-D :-D............BUT it failed the MOT :-|,because 2 tyres had tears in.Possibly made by darned pot holes :-| :-| :-| :-|.I have only done 21,000 miles so they were no where near needing being replaced.Blooming Roads are a disgrace. It's difficult to choose a route where there are no Potholes, and some are so big.So I will get the car on Monday now.I did get him to knock another £70 off the service.
The old 'Loom' off my engine is being sent back to Renault in France.

I must get to the postbox and get someones card off :-D

I did'nt see last nights program with Hugh but am going to watch it on catchup probably tonight. I think he does some good work with these things he backs. I saw the last ones too Mandy where he threw the fish to the people on the beach. It does seem such a waste if the fish have been caught and are undersize as they are dead in the nets. They go back into the sea and are free food for all the birds and other sea creatures.

They talk about feed the world and then make people do things like this.

We had a little bit of sun this morning but if you blinked a couple of times you missed it. Dull grey and still cold here now.

I don't eat prawns or any shell fish so no worries with me about what I am eating.

There was an inquest.
MIL.s GP and 2 care assistants from the nursing home were present.

The coroner was the same one who held an inquest ref FIL

Ellen had to identify him for the Police.

Oh dear David, that must have been extremely upsetting for you all and take a lot of learning to live with as I'm not sure that you ever 'get over' any thing like that we can only hope that things WILL improve for vulnerable people from now on and that lessons from the past have been learned.

Well that's the shoes away, wrapped them back up and OH said he would run me to the post office, so I posted a certain persons Birthday card at the same time.

Daughter no 2 and boyfriend have gone to collect their dog from the animal rescue home, not heard from them yet so don't know how things are going

Still sunny here been a lovely day.

Be on the watch out from phishing purporting to be from HM Inland Revenue saying you are due a rebate of (£xxx) and to log on to online banking link. It's a scam so delete it if you get one. The Inland Revenue owe me money??? I should be so lucky...

Sorry I haven't been on but we've been out here and there the last two days. Yesterday it was post Carmel's birthday (and she thanks you all profusely for all your good wishes) so we went over to Lutterworth. Had lunch in M*rrisons, then a bit of shopping and a look around what other few shops are there. A nice sunny break and a pleasant drive half an hour each way.
Today she had an appointment at our Helath Centre to see the podiatrist. She got a good report except an ingrown toe nail that she had taken off before, has regrown incorrectly. She has to go on March 19th to have it removed then a special coating on which means it won't grow back but will set as hard skin. The better of two eveils.
After that we drove on into Nuneaton for a bit of retail therapy. The freezer is well and truly stocked back up again.

Just got back from up the tunnel.

I went up there to dig some carrots for dinner (sheeshit pie) and got carried away. started clearing some dead stuff and must have been up there an hour. Had to come down for a leak otherwise I think I would still be there. Just made a cuppa.

Fiona ,what a shame your shoes didn't fit properly. Are there any others that you like ?
I can't wear heels the highest are Kitten heels) as I have an Arthritic joint in my big toe which means it wont bend in heels :-S

Mel that sounds so ladylike lol 'leak'.Was it cold up the Tunnel? I think it is really chilly here now.How is the cooker did you manage to get it going?

FRank I cannot open any of your emails I don't have the right IWord thingy :-S :-S.Have you changed to something different ,because I haven't had trouble before.

I think it is coming up to 5am for Kim.I wonder if she is still asleep ,assuming she managed to get some.

Pasta tonight with Tomato and Basil sauce and my added extra bits of mushroom, smoked lardons and red pepper .Plus a flatbread with Mozzarella and Pesto.Just Chris and me.Jess is arriving later so I think James said they would pick something up on the way back from the station.Suits me. :-D

Ooh William it gives me the willies thinking about toenails being taken off. That is one of the things when I did my stint in Casualty that I just could not bare.Poor Carmel.

Oh dear Jane more expense!! why didn't they do the MOT earlier so once the part was fitted you could have had the car back ,don't tell me they now have to order the tyres !!
And so you should get money off after waiting all this time .

I had a smile at Mel's leak too :-D :-D

William, must have been nice to have a drive out in the sun shine ,my sister-in-law had her big toes nail taken off ,she had Raynauds trouble and she was left with a tiny bit of nail that kept growing and she use to just clip it off as it grew .

Not to keen on any thing to do with feet , hubby goes to have his nails done every six weeks, i don't mind doing my own but i couldn't do his.
When hubby was younger ,before i met him ,he had Hammer toes and had an op on them he had a pin under his big toe nail, the nurse had to put her feet on the end of the bed to get a good pull on the pin ,when she pulled it out he said a shower of blood squirted out across the ward :-S :-S

Frank i haven't been able to open some of your emails either :-S

Is that Kim we can hear snoring ;-) :-D :-D :-D
