They are precious Jane.
She's lucky she wasn't afflicted in both eyes.
The lense may not have been sterile.
It will be the the subject of an enquiry, perhaps ongoing.
Sluice your eyes with fresh running water.
You will feel the benefit.

I had a Doctor's appt for 2.50 this afternoon.
I was there,the Doctor wasn't present.
I wasn't very pleased.

Now I have to wait until 8/3/13
Good job I'm generally OK

Well, ladies If you didn't get WRITTEN PERMISSION you were simply sacked!! :-0 I think it was a requirement right into the 1950s.

I was a Manager Mel, so Office Clerk would be a step down!! :-|. I was just looking back in my family and if I'd worked for family I could have done book keeping for the rellie with his own factory, served in a few shops or even been selling lucky heather and pegs!!!! lol.

It seems there wasn't a lot of choice for women then and if you were working class even less opportunity. Men controlled the purse strings and resisted women doing their work as they felt it downgraded it. Also you had to be careful to do something that was considered 'respectable'. Then, of course if your family left you money or land etc it became your husband's once you married, so you couldn't even set yourself up with a shop or business with it without his agreement. Makes you realise how far things have come and what choice there is nowadays.

I had trouble with varifocals at first too, same problem as Frank on stairs. I had my previous ones from Spe*savers and had the varifocal sunglasses too and they were great. What does vary is the different varifocal lenses. Some are more gradual than others and it is easier to focus with those. These second lot of lenses they put in the ones I have now are more gradual and I have found them a lot better, even than the previous glasses I had. Jane, I hate that puffer thing they use. The bright light makes your eye water, even before they start puffing!! :-| I bet that runny eye is a real nuisance for you.

Many years ago I used to watch the Boxing Day Meet at Melton Mowbray. I never liked the idea of fox hunting, but could see why the farmers did. I just like the sense of occasion with everyone dressed up, the happy hounds and of course the smartly turned out horses and ponies. Me and my friend would 'pick' which of the ponies we would like if we were rich like the toffs!!! lol.

Morning Everyone & Evening Kim

Dull, misty and cold here,

I was a nursery assistant in a council run children's nursery before I got married back in the 70's, don't think nurseries for children would have been around then,(1860's)certainly not for my ancestors. the mother if she had the time or older siblings would have had to look after the little ones

I also have run a mother & toddler group, then worked in a playgroup for 15 years, then when that closed down I got a job in a private nursery for 5 years as a nursery Practioner,

But now as Mel says I probably be known as a Housekeeper, & part time nanny.

Morning All and Eveing Kim,

Dull and dreary again here this morning. I forgot to turn the washing machine on last night so the towels would be washed when I arose and now they are bashing away in the background :-|

Hogwart has his first layers of paper pulled up in the air this morning. I don't know whether he knows Spring is on the way or what. Some nights he hardly moves a thing about and then other he rips the paper up or pulls it up into like a cave. The other day he had tipped his water bowl up on its side against the bottom of the ark. Oh said he had parked it!!

Oh came out with a good saying yesterday but for the life of me I can't remember what it was :-S

Well I can see from your postings that my question made you all think.

We still have to hear from William. I do hope he and Carmel are getting over their colds too and are feeling better.

I have to ring for an appointment today with the eye clinic so thats what I shall do after having my breakfast and taking my pills.

Just rang and they are doing a training course and can't answer the phone at the moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Leave your name and telephone number and say who referred you to the hosp. Your doc or optician or someone else I can't remember.

Good old Mel, leave us in suspenders !!!!

Morning all?Evening kim,

Oh what a night it was (ELVIS) Went into bed at 11.00 pm had a read and settled down. Woke at 3.30 NO ROS. Ah I thought she's fallen asleep on the sofa. I turned on the bedside light and was just getting out of bed, when she appeared, she had been to the loo. !!! Got back in and couldn't settle till 5.00 am. then slept till 9.30.

Both a lot better this morning, apart from being bunged up, and runny eyes. (your fault JANE). Running low on tissues and bread. Will have to ask neighbour to restock for us.

I must cook the beef joint that we were suppose to have had for Sunday, It's been in the fridge so should be allright. At least if it's cooked, we can have it either cold or warmed up with veg, etc.

Horrible day here also today, Heating on, lights on, tele on, just like yesterday.

I'm off for shower and shave, and put on fresh joggers and T shirt.

Hope everyone is staying well.

Meant to say contacted Kim on FB she has Medical problems again. Poor girl.!!!

Morning/Evening All

Grey day here ,chilly and not that pleasant out.I am off to see if my man has had his coal delivery and hopefully get a couple of bags. But before I can go I have to wait for the garage to ring me back !!!!.I have never had to moan about service at this place until now.It is the fact that it is me who has had to call them every time and yet they promised me that they would keep me informed and up to date with what is going on.Not one call have I had :-S :-S

Poor Kim I'm so sorry she is not well again.I think she is supposed to be off to the sleep clinic in a couple of days.
Frank I still have some Beef left from Sunday.I think that can go in a Sandwhich at lunch time with a nice dollop of Bran*** Pickle :-D

Oh has seen a fox out the back field next to us. He had a couple of warning shots at it and it just stood there and looked at him!! Then it went off across the field and disturbed a lovely roe buck that was laying in the grass. When I went out to have a look the buck had settled himself down again. I tried to get some pics and am just going to download them to see if I have any good ones. While I was filming it got up and walked around a bit feeding then went off over the back of the field towards the trees. My hands were frozen by now so I came in.

Frank Report 27 Feb 2013 14:39

The weather seems to have improved here. A bit of sunshine, went out to the garage and it's blooming cold.

Ros has decided she will pop to Tesc# to get bread etc, we also need a couple of Candle bulbs for one of the lights, so she will get them too.

I cooked the mreat this morning, it smells fine, but Ros said I won't eat any of it. It must have gone off by now !!!! RUBBISH I will let it get cold and have Cold beef and Chips with pickle tonight, and the rest for sandwhiches. Can't waste a nice piece of topside.

Have you thought what your OH said yesterday yet Mel ???

A rocket up someone bum is in order Jane. I think they are taking you for granted. Do you want me to sort it lol lol ???

That sun is really warm through the windows now., very deceiving, I would love to get out for an hour, but don't think I should yet.

Harvey rang this morning he has had this newro virious (whetever it's called) he has been really bad and spent most of the last 4 days, being sick, and sitting on my "White Friend" Dr has been, and is treating him. We said thanks Mate, that's where we got our lot then !!! It turns out his sin-in-law has had it and Lara, so it's gone round the family.

There is so much sickness, colds and flu going around at the moment, everyone I have spoken to has been ill with one or the other.

I have that dry eye too Jane, when I mentioned it to the optician she said there wasn't anything you could do about it, it's particularly bad in the cold or wind. My dad had glaucoma so I have that tested everytime I go, it's unnerving waiting for that puff, I keep thinking keep your eye open, keep it open and just when I think I'm going to have to blink, that's when the 'puff' comes.

I wouldn't have made a very amiable wife a hundred years ago, my motto has always been ...............what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine ........... :-D

LilyL

LilyL Report 27 Feb 2013 15:39

I think you can tell that I wouldn't Maureen!!!! I AM willing to share and compromise - sometimes, grudgingly!! L is marginally worse than me, you cross swords with her at your peril!!! her poor husband!!! but to her great credit she keeps them all up together, manages their business, runs hither and thither and generally keeps the 'show on the road'.
Jane, what on earth is going on with your car?!! If the spare bit was coming from North Korea it wouldn't take this long! the explanation better be good!!
We are due for 'eyes' this summer so have got to look round for an optician. We had a brilliant one in Tiverton so I shall ask at the surgery for a recommendation, like I did with the Dentist.
The sun is trying to come out this p.m! I've been cleaning Merlin's field and it was COLD; job done now for a day or two. P goes to Iceland on Sat for a week (gymnastics) and I must ring and wish her luck!

Afternoon all,

We've had sun shine all day it was so warm through the glass i turned the heating off, it's been lovely to see blue sky ,almost for got what blue sky was !!

What a palaver with the car Jane i don't think i would have been so understanding as you ,most people would have kicked off by now , but you would think they would ring and let you know whats going on especially if they want your custom again.

Frank, glad to hear your now getting over the worst , so many people with bugs ,everyone you talk to has had some thing these last few weeks .
Don't throw that beef away, it costs enough , and i think the price of beef will be going higher after all the trouble with the horse meat .!!

Poor Kim, she really goes through the mill doesn't she ,sending love to Kim if your looking in <3 <3

Pasta for us tonight ,my favourite :-)

I think if you have glaucoma in your family your eye tests are free if you are under retiring age.

Still hav'nt remembered what it was oh said yesterday.

Thanks for the emails Frank but I want no virus alerts thank you.

Maureen

Maureen Report 27 Feb 2013 16:17

Yes they are free Mel, I'm well past retiring age but remember not paying before that. My poor friend has just missed out as she will be 60 next week and they have put the retirement age up. Did you get the photo, Jane and Frank both couldn't open it the first e.mail I sent

LilyL

LilyL Report 27 Feb 2013 16:36

Yes, Thank you for the emails Frank, they were duly passed on!! glad you are both feeling better. We've both had a free eye test for ages, OH from way back as his mother had glaucoma and in the end lost the sight in one eye and the sight in the other was severely compromised! Even though she wasn't my favorite person I felt very sorry for her - awful to go blind.
We have started having our main meal at lunch time as an experiment!! We both get so tired in the evening and neither of us wants to cook and clear up, so we thought we'd give eating midday a whirl!

Maureen

Maureen Report 27 Feb 2013 16:48

Most of us eat in the evening these days but I'm sure it's much better for you Liz to eat midday, gives you a chance to burn off the calories.

Is it just me, whatever I try to do online never works. Was just trying to buy some premium bonds kept going round and round in circles in the end I did it by phone and the guy then said he would talk me through doing it on line, bet he wished he hadn't, we got so far and then it just kept repeating the same thing, in the end he said, well you know what to click on now :-(

William

William Report 27 Feb 2013 16:54

Hi all, here I am. Sorry I've been missing but you'll have to blame the cold weather. We went to Coventry on the bus on Monday and I thought my feet had fallen off! I've never known them be so cold and I even had a pair of thermal insoles in my shoes.
Yesterday Carmel had to go for her diabetic eyecheck at our local opticians, which meant getting frozen cold all over again. The test was a 'no change' from the last except she has the onset of glaucoma, as I have. I think they dish that out to anyone over the age of 75.
Today is carmel's birthday and we have just got the house back to ourselves. We have had a stream of visitors from 10.30am onwards. The place is more like a florists now. and I've been dishing out portions of the biggest carrot cake ever which our granddaughter made her. Our highlight was a visit from Baby Grace and her Mum, which I'll send some photos out on the email.
I think Mel was asking back there what my occupation was. Well, I had quite a few over the years but my main and last one was as t'echnical illustrator and designer' when I was with Roll-sRoyce for 32 years. That was on the aero and industrial marine side of the business.
Be back later, got to get the washing in off the line if I can stand the sunshine (now, there's a first!!!)

Back to my car.The part which I now know is called a Loom had not arrived. They now say tomorrow. If it does come and isn't right I will be steaming. My biggest gripe is not the time really, as I know it has had to be made just for my car,but the fact I haven't been kept informed.I made it quite clear how pi***ed off I am about that. But I have got them to reduce the price of the MOT and Service :-D..This lady is no push over :-D :-D
The other thing I said was I need to take Chester to the Vet and one of the conditions of having the courtesy car is NO PETS.They have agreed that I can take him.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CARMEL <3.
