Yes I did David. It used to go a bit funny sometimes if I remember rightly or fade down on the sound.

Frank you be careful what you take with the pills your on as some things can be harmfull. Mum made herself very ill once by taking Night Nurse when she had a cold. I know I can't have those Le*sip things now because they have something in them that disagrees with my medication. It is something to do with the drying out of a cold. I have to just have now paracetamol and lemon jucie with some honey added. Nice and hot goes down a treat when you have a cold.

Radio Luxenburg was popular long before Pirate Radio that made so many dic jockeys famamous

I see a lonf serving local broadcaster Frank Wappit had retired due to ill heath emphysemea.Well it was last year he quit..
Ellen & I were once sshopping in Tesc£ and I saw this man.I said to Ellen doesn't he look like Frank Wappit?
The man spoke up and said that's because it is Frank Wappit.
We got talking about local broadcasting etc He told me he was on the following morning BBC Radio Newcastle.
He asked what song had had been sung at E & I's wedding.
Amazing Grace I replied. He said he'd play it.
Good as his word he did play it on the radio. He played the Elvis Presley version.
He crucified it.
But,it was good of Frank to play it at all.

David I did listen to Radio Luxembourg,in bed in my young teens. But the reception was awful :-S.I think I listened to it under my bed covers when my parents thought I was asleep :-D

We now have a covering of snow.Just a bit ,but it is still coming down lightly.I bet James isn't too pleased that he has agreed to pick Hannah and John up at midnight lol

I just watched Mrs Brown's Boys :-D William did you see it? I know you are a fan :-D
I laughed my socks off as I hadn't seen that one before.

Now off to bed.Frank I hope you have a decent sleep tonight without being too stuffed up with blocked nose and coughing.
I have just remembered to take a joint of Beef out of the freezer for tomorrow. It will be tomorrow night by the time it has defrosted and I can cook it. :-|
Night Night All xx

My first record (78) was 'Last Train to San Fernando!! closely followed by 'Diana' then straight onto Tommy Steele, or was it the other way around!!! I too listened to Radio Luxemburg Jane, under the sheets, and on so softly that I could hardly hear it, for the same reasons as you!! I had my first record player when I was 18 for Xmas and Birthday present. It was very smart with a drop down system and two speakers (stereo). That stayed with us for years till we finally bought a 'better. set up in 1971!!
Very cold this morning; OH sawing and stacking logs as we had a load delivered yesterday evening. Thank goodness for a saw bench, I don't think the poor old soul could manage doing it with a chain saw any more!!!
Pork for lunch today, plus whatever!

Oh not out this morning so thats good.

Fiona Report 24 Feb 2013 10:34

Morning All,Evening Kim

Trying to snow here too

OH back from the skip ,he took a lot of garden rubbish, and an old washing machine , glad to see the mess going from the back garden.

I have just had a shower & washed my hair , its great to be able to wash it in the shower & not have to use a jug over the bathroom sink.

I've stopped taking the Omaprazole last night and hope that any heart burn has gone, doctor at hospital said the heart burn was not because of the pills , I was taking, so I hope all will be ok, if it is gone then I won't need to make an appointment at my GP

The sun is out and the sky is blue and we had just a few flakes of snow drifting down when I did the chickens. Washing in the machine and bubble and squeak on the stove getting ready for lunch time with our big breakfast then it is only a sandwich tonight.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Feb 2013 11:08

Mel, That's an opening line to a song "RAINING IN MY HEART" Jonny Ray. I think.

Anyway Afternoon all, We are both sitting here with box's of tissues, and sneezing away like a pair of good 'uns.

Been sitting around since 10.00 when we got up. I have just had a shower and shave,Not dressed dressed, just T shirt and joggers. More comfortable than trousers. !!!

Radio Lux, was a no no in our house. The older parents (like so many) couldn't stand the noise. I had a crystal set, that I would lay in bed with trying to find any station with music. As you say Will. Saturday's were spent in the music shops listening to the latest records. Mostly 78 rpm. When did the EPs come out ??? they were 7 inch wern't they ???

I remember going to the "TWO EYES CAFE" to see Tommy Steele. Our favourite place was a pub in Wood Green, where Chris Barber and his band first started out. We would jive all evening, The walls were running with condesation, and we were soaked through with sweat., but still managed to keep away from colds. and if with missed the last bus, had to walk home.!!!

Ros bought a small joint of Beef YES BEEF> yesterday, If I feel like cooking, we will have that tonight. If not, anything that takes our fancy. (FOOD WISE)

Thats for your concern Mel, but reading the instructions, I don't think there is anything that will harm me. I will let you know if they do lol lol Can't get the Emoticons to work for me. !!!!

Hi everyone, bit later today for a Sunday. Mine always starts off with my Sunday treat, a cooked breakfast, just me, Carmel doesn't like what I like. I lightly fry a couple of rashers, mushrooms, then put them on a bed of toast with a couple of strips on cheese and add a little Br*nston pickle, yummy.
Visitors this morning in advance of Carmel's birthday on Wednesday. Our granddaughter and her husband, and our great grandchildren, Ralph and Maggie. The Magic shoe box came out for them to play with the cars in it and Maggie had to sit on my lap while I read The Gruffalo to her. All very very cultural :-D A lovely visit.
Got a tip this morning for nasty coughs, especially those that keep you awake. Rub some V*ck on the soles of your feet, put some socks on your feet, and hey presto, a non-coughing night. I'm told it definitely works.
Bit like wrapping your bananas in tin foil and storing in the bottom of your fridge, don't know why but it makes them last a very long time without going brown.
Glad the music them got some memories going. Jane, Petula's song was 'Don't sleep in the subway darling' - I can't think who on earth would want to do that now, even if you were homeless! And Mel, it was 'a MOOSE lose about this house' - not a GOOSE - but you did make me laugh. And Lily, I think 'Last train to San Fernando' was by Chas McDevitt (I hope :-S)
Jane, yes we did watch Mrs Brown Boys last night and laughed our socks off. I don't recall seeing that one before and yet our mag said 'Repeat'? I was drinking coffee at one joke and nearly choked myself.
Right I'm off to do some 'other stuff' now, hope you all have a good day, stay warm. C Y A L

I remember a song called 'Oh Carol'!! It was popular in 1961 which was the year I first went to Italy. No sound of it in Venice, but when we reached a beach for the final two weeks, it never stopped playing over the Tanoy - luckily my parents were 42(my stepfather) and 43(my mother) respectively so they were up for all that, although my s-father did get a bit sick of it!!! I've never forgotten that holiday, we had such a good time, the three of us; we were away for 6 weeks, driving down through France etc, taking in loads of scenery, culture, plus a week in Germany with some friends ending up at a place called Fuimetto right on the sea. My S-father's permission was sought by 'whoever' to play table tennis, go for a drink, walk on the beach etc, all very correct! I'm sure you recognise that attitude Jane from your time in Greece. Happy days!
Just finished lunch, and though I say it myself, it was lovely! Toss up now between my kindle, or a nice film!!

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Feb 2013 15:39

William I have corrected my posting and don't know why I typed GOOSE as I was singing it whilst typing and sang Moose.

Oh Carol I am but a fooool.

The song my mum used to like me to sing when in my teens was Sailor. Was that Pet Clarke?

David

David Report 24 Feb 2013 15:49

Neil Sadaka wtote that song for his then girl friend Carole King

William

William Report 24 Feb 2013 16:23

Mel,well done you. At least you didn't go all topical with the old song 'Horsey, hold your tail up!' - or - 'Horsey, horsey, don't you stop, just left your feet go clippety clop'
Yes Sailor was one of Petula Cark's many songs, recorder circa 1960 then released in French the following year. I think a lot of folks don't realise Petula Clark had a very varied film career too.
She was on Jools Holland's Hootanany last year I think it was, and could still belt out a number, she thoroughly enjoyed herself.
Carmel and I are always going "Do you remember this one" , then dragging a song up from the past. Mind you, I'm notorious for not remembering all the words! :-(

Jane Report 24 Feb 2013 16:38

Afternoon from a very late me.OOh I'm all excited :-D.Have been on line looking at Hotels in Venice and have actually booked one now. :-D :-D.I ended up ringing the company just to see how many rooms they had available for the week in September as Chris was out. They only had one left so held it for me.Once Chris got in and told him he said book it quick .So all done and dusted.James said jolly good ,but I don't want to hear you banging on about it until you go lol(as if I would ;-)

I have a big Beef Joint cooking and it's smelling mouth watering :-D
Haven't read posts yet so must do that in a minute.

Hannah and John have gone home to London.I dropped them off at the station at 11.30.I think they had a lovely evening out.Hannah has been asked to be Bridesmaid for her friend in December.(can you be a bridesmaid age 30?) I suppose you can.
No more snow here ,but still very cold.I went to the little garden shop this morning to get some eggs and Suet Coconuts for the birds and they had totally sold out of bags of coal !!.
I'll pop back later

William

William Report 24 Feb 2013 16:40

Frank you mentioned the EP's- 45 rpm, , I think they came in around 1951/2. Some record players had a wide centre spindle so you could pop out the centre of an EP to play it. Then you could get little spindle adaptors to slip back in the centre to play them on slender spindles. No wonder they disappeared! I think the 33 1/3 rpm LP's came in around 1948/9. I remember buying my first LP in Romford, in an arcade of South Street. It was 'Les Brown and his band of Renown'. I had that for ages, loved big band music. Another Saturday buy!!
I don't think my Dad ever got further than 78 vinyls, he didn't buy many. His favourite was Anna Fried singing The Nuns Chorus in German. He didn't understand a word of it, but the singing would reduce him to tears, and that was some feat I can tell you. I can still hear it in my mind when I think about it. Da da da, da da da, da da der daa daa, daa daa - (I know, you didn't understand a note of that ;-)

Jane

Jane Report 24 Feb 2013 16:42

William ...you were singing that to yourself weren't you as you were typing :-D :-D :-D
