I remember it well Will,

Jane arn't you a spoilt little child. Getting the last room. !! What a great husband you have, If you can find another room in another hotel, we will come with you, ONLY IF YOU PAY !!!!

We have decided we don't want to eat today. They do day "Feed a cold etc" but neither of us want anything. I am having a liquid breakfast, lunch, and dinner Didn't start till nearly 3.00 pm. Will no doubt get tired in a while and have a sleep. Ros has been off for an hour already. I will let her sleep, what with this cold and her diabetis, she is just about buggered. She is having a real job to breath. and keeps coughing and sneezing. She has had a lemsi# with extra honey and lemon. I am just soldiering on like a brave little boy.!!!!

Will, I remember those discs you could dtop on the turntable when you had removed in centre of the EPs. I'm not sure it was the late 40s that Lps came out. ???

T.V is on, but nobody watching. Will have to wake madam soon or she won't sleep tonight.

Hi All,

Dominique, nique, nique ........that's the one isn't it William....I remember it well and used to try to sing it!!

A boss of mine at work was mad on the Everly Brothers and had stacks of their records. I must say I have a few CDs of theirs too.

I love to watch people who can jive well.........oops something pinged in the kitchen so the breaded camemberts are ready to go with the salad!!........BBL

Frank if I left it to Chris to book we would not get there lol. This will be first holiday when he never has to think about work again :-D :-D :-D.So hopefully he will be a nice relaxed retiree :-D(not sure if retiree is the right word :-S)I think it is.
I do hope Ros's breathing doesn't get worse. Not surprised you don't feel like eating much when you are both full of cold.Just a bit of what you fancy when you fancy is the best .

Frank

Frank Report 24 Feb 2013 19:08

Ann, I learnt to jive at about 14 years old, and up till having my stroke, would jive the night away. Ros could never jive to I use to dance with next door neighbour, We all use to go out together 8 of us.. I could also jive with two partners, anything with a good beat would get me going. I'm tapping my feet now thinking about it. An old friend of mine "Chalkey White" Would jive together at youth club, and won a competition, not the same movement as the girls though !!! Non of this BOPPING like the Yanks did.

DOI is on, I just can't stand all the noise from the clapping, so i've come out of the way, my brain can't stand it anymore. Noise is my worst enemy. Sends me dolally. I could scream the house down. Ros now has the volume so low, I bet she can hardly hear it !!!! I will see what on my Tele, because that B####y Mr S is on later, and that will send me round the twist

Jane, Thats why he doesn't book it, HE DON'T WANT TO GO. why you no rissen. (who used to say that) ????.

Well we have had good coverage of the record era. WHAT'S NEXT.???? I could think of some things, but don't think they would go down well. !!!!

Going to look at MY TELE now.

Jane

Jane Report 24 Feb 2013 19:14

Benny Hill I think Frank :-D :-D :-D
Oh Yes Chris does want to go ....he just knows I'm better at organising and booking things better than him :-D :-D :-D....I am just leaving him the job of booking a Hotel near Birmingham Airport for the night before we fly......Not a lot to ask!! :-D ;-)

It turned cloudy this afternoon here and got quite cold again.

Frank I can just see you jiving away the night through. Nice memories to have though. I could never jive very well only with a friend (a girl) when we went to the youth club in Wanstead. Her name was Lorna and she was the only Lorna I ever knew!

Going to make oh some prawn sandwiches now as he will want to see the car program, blast can't think what it's called .... o yes Top Gear.

Annx

Annx Report 24 Feb 2013 19:56

Don't you believe it Jane!! I seem to do most of the booking like you, but we stayed just one night at a place in Wales once and I gave OH the tel no and asked him to book it for us. When we got there we were shown to 2 single rooms!!!!!! Our faces must have been a picture. There were no other rooms so we were saying goodnight across a landing!!! lol. He's still living that one down.

Frank I could never jive either but would watch transfixed. In the 80s they used to have 50s and 60s dance nights at a local pub that we would go to. Just for oldies so no youngsters were allowed in and it was smart dress only. I remember seeing a chap much older than me then that used to dance with 2 girls at once like you say. He was brilliant and would drop the girls hand from his onto his opposite shoulder and catch her hand as it ran down his arm......all those tricks. He wore all the gear too and was really into it and would be up dancing with the ladies all evening. Sadly I had to turn him down when he asked me and wait till a 'twist' number came on!! lol

Has anyone been to Anglesey? I was wondering whether to go there this year as we like unspoiled places with nice beaches.

Jane

Jane Report 24 Feb 2013 20:08

Ann ,I will ask Fitz .His favourite place is Pembrokshire.I am seeing him tomorrow.(Is that near Anglesey ??)Not to good on the geography of Wales :-S.I think you would love it.
LOL Single Rooms???? ....now I wouldn't mind single beds in the same room ,but different rooms ,I don't think so ....Chris might think differently lol....he would be glad of peace and quite lol :-| :-|

I couldn't jive either, but did love the twist.I remember getting the stitch doing that. :-S :-S.I could do 'The Bump' :-D

Morning/Evening All

Yes David, it is funny how just a word triggers off a memory and then another and another :-D

Well it is a very dull grey morning. It doesn't feel too cold either.I have been awake since something after 4am :-S :-S.So I had better get on and do all the things I need to do before seeing Fitz at 12 .I can see me running out of steam by this afternoon lol

Morning Everyone/ Evening

Sunny day here,

Talking about how one thing triggers a memory,
Daughter no 2 and boyfriend have decided to adopt a dog from the local rescue centre, it's a female called Kara and is about 8 years old, they had to get a written permission letter from me as to say I would let them have a pet in the house seeing that I am their landlady , (they live in my dads old house and my name is on the deeds.) I have told them they can't bring the dog into my house as I now have an allergy reaction, can't breath and get terribly wheezy and a tight chest

That got me thinking about my dog Ginny she died on my 18th Birthday and counting up it's hard to believe that must be nearly 40 years ago, now :-( :-(

Going into town to Ma*ks for a bra fitting later today, OH says I bet you come home with more than a few bras, :-)

Annx

Annx Report 25 Feb 2013 10:50

Morning All,

What a dreary day it is here too, dull and overcast and we had a sprinkle of rain earlier.

OH has gone off to a meeting at the council offices and I'm doing jobs!! The towels have been changed and the washer is on. I always feel better when the washing is on, it sounds like work is being done even if I'm sitting down!! lol.

Thanks for asking Fitz Jane. I think Anglesey is higher up than Pembrokeshire, but he may have been in the past or heard what it is like. Apart from a couple of trips to Snowdonia I have always been to the Gower peninsular at the bottom of Wales.

OH often says 'Oh, my giddy Aunt' or 'Oh, my hat'. I wonder where those sayings came from. :-S

Better crack on now........a letter to do and some phone calls next. BBL.

P.S. I hope the SICK ONES are feeling a bit better this morning.

Frank

Frank Report 25 Feb 2013 10:55

Morning all/Eving Kim,

We are both still bunged up and are hardly ably to speak without coughing, Ros's glands are swollen under her neck.

We didn't eat yesterday, Ros has had a crumpet this morning, I am yet to attempt anything. Just 3 mugs of tea !!

Last night I found an old War film on 5 that I hadn't seen before. Typical English made, you could see the end, before it hardly started. Then on 4 was a film about a runaway train, The effects were brillent, but again no real story line. Then it was off to bed.

Mel, We use to have a local dance night in the Woodford Bridge Village Hall every Thursday evening. Nice and close to home, Friday was Youth Club at St Barnabus School, again not to far to walk for me. Saturday was sometimes East Ham, or Walthamstow Assembley rooms, Canning town (The Iron Bridge)
Must tell you a little story, We went to the Iron Bridge one Saturday night. It was a big pub and a bit on the rough side. Anyway a scuffle broke out, and everybody crowded round. It wasn't a fight. I was a woman doing a STRIP. and the two bob bits(two shillings) were being thrown into the circle. She earnt a few bob that night.!!!!

Caroline rang this morning, they are home from Florida. 80 degrees yesterday, so will find it cold here for a few days. Ros has decided not to go out (I almost fainted) today, to see how she gets on with this cold.

Ann, I use to go Sea Fishing to Anglesey, and would stay B & B on Sat nights So I didn't see much of the place but the views from sea were delighful, many coves and hills, and of course you have the Ferry coming and going from Hollyhead. I would imagine it would be something different, and worth a try, don't forget the weather can be a bit iffy.

Benny Hill of course it was, I so enjoyed his shows, all slap and tickle but no crude jokes etc.

Off for a shower, NO shave today, I'm not going anyehere.

Jane, Enjoy your time with Fitz, What are your plans today then. ????

Annx

Annx Report 25 Feb 2013 10:58

Ooops, didn't see you post Fiona. Ginny was a spaniel wasn't she, a lovely rich brown colour? What a shame you are allergic now, did that happen recently or a while ago? I suppose you will have to be careful visiting your daughter at the house too. I bet your daughter's excited about the new addition and being an older dog won't have to house train her. Maybe you can send us a pic when you get one.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 Feb 2013 11:12

Morning All and Evening Kim,

Dull and grey here also but still not so cold although there is still ice on some of the water butts around the garden and the tank outside the tunnel. It has a bobbly surface where the snow fell and froze.

Off for my eye test for new glasses today so you won't see me much today, then shopping.

Frank mum went to St Barnabas school. Her and dad used to go to the Memorial Hall at Woodford for dances, you remember the one staight across the cross road (before they changed the road) from the Majestic cinema and down there a bit on the left past the few shops. Think it had big evergreen trees around it.

Fiona

Fiona Report 25 Feb 2013 12:13

Thats right Annx she was brown , liver colour I think they call it

I was a bit dubious Annx when they told me they wanted a dog, Because both of them don't have full time jobs, and I wonder how they are going to keep feeding the poor thing, vets bills etc on the money daughter gets from Job seekers and her 2 part time jobs , Boyfriend doesn't have a full time job either.
it can be quite costly to look after a dog, at least its not a puppy and it won't chew the furniture or carpets, dads house is not like a palace in fact you can still smell dad's dog a spaniel who was called Bonnie on some the carpets, even after they were cleaned , I told them but I would be upset if any of the furniture was damaged.

I stared having trouble with my allergy when dad used to take Bonnie to get groomed, it was about 1/2 in the car and by the time we arrived there I would have streaming eyes and a itchy nose , even with the windows open,
poor thing was very nervous at first and we used to have a right carry on to get her through the door, dad who had slight dementia at the time could not handle the dog on his own, after a while we stopped going to the place because dad had to stop driving the car.

Maureen

Maureen Report 25 Feb 2013 14:37

Sorry to see you and Ros have the dreaded colds Frank, I am just about recovering from mine and laryngitis, voice is back but not hundred percent. have been keeping up with most of the posts, must have missed yours Jane about a holiday, where are you planning on going.

My first record I can remember was called St. Theresa of the Roses, but can't remember the singer, loved The Everley Brothers Cathy's Clown. I used to buy pop magazines and cut out the pictures, my walls were covered with handsome men :-D Most of them were American like Frankie Avalon, Troy Donahue, Ricky Nelson, Fabian etc. We would go to Hammersmith Palais or Leicester Square on a Saturday night, they had live bands playing, it's funny I'm the opposite way round Ann, could jive but was never very comfortable doing the twist.

Quite a commitment having a dog Fiona, I don't think I could cope with cleaning up their poo when you take them for walks and I've no idea what I'd do if it got into a fight with another dog, cats are so much easier, but dogs are better company.

Better get back to the art room, my friend is 60 next week and I am doing her a painting, it's almost done, just a bit of tweeking.

Annx

Annx Report 25 Feb 2013 16:01

I would like to have a dog, but it is quite a commitment like Maureen says, especially if you work or are out a lot. Hopefully it isn't a dog with a big appetite Fiona, but the dried foods can be less costly especially if they bulk buy in the large sacks. At least with your allergy they won't expect mum to 'take over'. :-)

Maureen, I have had some bad bouts of Laryngitis that took several weeks to get my voice fully back. Hopefully yours is well on the mend now. I bet your friend will love her present........what is it a painting of? You are lucky having an art room where you can leave things set up.

Thanks for that Frank........you did get about to different places as a fisherman didn't you. I think I will see what accommodation I can find, I thought it looked as if there were nice coves too. I think if we do go, the umbrellas will be with us. I know Wales can be rainy from a bad experience camping! It sounds like you both have a bad dose of the cough/cold to be off your food too. Best thing is what your doing and stay warm and sit it out.

I was reading about the island Guam earlier where there are now 13,000 snakes per square mile......my worst nightmare!! They aren't poisonous, but bite and many of the island's birds have become extinct because of them. To reduce the population they are going to fly over and drop poisoned mice. They will attach streamers to the mice to make sure they catch onto the trees as they don't want to kill the ground dwelling creatures.

OH has said he may not go to footie tonight ( like Frank with Ros, I nearly swooned!) I think he's fed up with the cold and poor play lately. Mind you he's off to Droylsden to a match tomorrow.

Frank

Frank Report 25 Feb 2013 16:51

Ann, Even I won't be going out tonight to see my WEST HAM V SPURS. A good London derby. I don't think it would make sense after being shut up in doors since last Thursday.

We have only had hot drinks and soup today. Another day without cooking, will save a fortune and loose some weight. !!! Don't know yet what we will have later, if anything.

We (when fishing) would travel All up and down the East Coast in the Winter,(COD and Whitting) and South coast, South West,( Flat fish,Ling, Conger ells, Pollack) Wales(,Dog fish, Monk fish, Plaice and various flatties)Scotland (BIG COD and SKATE) in the summer. Some places we would set of Friday nights, fish all day Saturday. B & B and a few beers, then fish all day Sunday, and travel home Sunday evening/night. AND still go to work on Mondays.

We had a great club. One ,if not ,The only one furthest from the coast. Based in Kettering. We held STAG NIGHTS once a month to raise funds, Where ever we traveled it would only cost Members £8.00. That included, Coach, Boat, and Bait. no wonder there was always a waiting list to go. But it was always those on the trip had first chance to book the next one. We did run trips every Sat or Sun, for those who couldn't get on the coach trip, but they were by car and cost a lot more. On the coach trips we had the back seat for the "BEER" which was supplied by the club we used, on a SOR basis, this way we never had to pay for the meeting room. or dance room for the stag nights. WINNERS ALL ROUND.

Mel, You never mentioned your mum going to the same school as me !!! Do you rewmember the St. James Hawksey Hall in Woodford Green. That was where my brother held his wedding reception.
I've been on here tooo long. see you later.
