Hi everyone. Keeps trying to snow here but it's not settling. I had to take Carmel down to our doctor first thing this morning (9.15) to have a cortizone injection in her knee. It was freezing out, felt like the arctic. It just started to snow as we came out of the library to make our way home. All I seem to do is keep filling up the bird table!

Love all the sayings and rhymes that are turning up. Mel, I knew the first verse of Jelly On A Plate, but that's all. Fiona, I also recall that one, The Little Girl With The Curl In The Middle of her Forehead.
When I was young and at home, if my Mum or Dad wanted to refer to a woman who was posh, the would call them 'Lady Dunabunk'. And my Dad would often come out with 'I don't want your Christmas pudding, stick it on the wall'.

David, 50p for a Patsy Cline CD is great value at any time. I handed a lot of unused CD's into charity shops but I kept my Patsy Clines, Carpenters and Matt Monroe's - also my Sinatra's. The Motown all went as I didn't listen to them anymore. Charity shops can often be excellent value. I recently got one of those adjustable table on wheels from a local one for £3, and in 'as new' condition. I had an old one here which our granddaughter-in-law was more than pleased to take off our hands. I use mine in my den as additional working space but they are always ideal as bed tables if anyone is confined to bed ill.
We always try to take our stuff into the local hospice charities, we like to think it's keeping it in the community - and Lord knows when you'd ever need to be glad of a hospice. Both my brother and our son were in hospice care before they sadly departed.

We didn't have our pancakes yesterday as Carmel didn't feel so well tummy-wise. We had them today and I'm afraid they didn't turn out so well. Carmel said to me earlier," it's Ash Wednesday today so I mustn't eat any meat" - so I repleaid -"That's OK then, you can have some 'ash browns!". Lucky for me I can run faster than she can after the injection in her knee :-D

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Feb 2013 17:25

William had to laugh at the ash browns!!

Fiona My dad was always telling me nursery rymes when I was little and that was one of them.

Think I have already mentioned about muma's little baby love, shortening shortening. I thought it was a big coloured lady cutting brown bread. I must have been about 3 or 4 at the time. If I could'nt sleep dad would always come in and sing to me and we used to do Deep Breathing too. In through your nose and out through your mouth.

Ann I did laugh at the card you sent. Is that what Gordon looked like when he had hair? Bless him...........

Jane

Jane Report 13 Feb 2013 17:54

Mel My Dad used to sing to me too.He would sit on the bottom of the bed and sing
Over the sea to Skye or Danny Boy the Pipes ,the Pipes are calling.
Gawd, just typing this is making me feel weepy :-( :-(.It just seems like yesterday.
and tomorrow will be 8 years since my Mum passed away :-(
But I won't mention that again as it is someones Birthday tomorrow :-D ;-).I wonder who that might be? :-D :-D
'ash browns' lolol William !.............My pancakes are still sitting in the pack in the kitchen :-S

I can listen to Brenda Lee or Patsy Cline any time.
I always have their CDs in the car
Dinah Washington is another favourite. She died in her thirties through taking too many pills to lose weight.

Maureen, there's some thing about the late Patsy Cline's voice.
She could sing the Yellow Pages and I'd enjoy it

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Feb 2013 18:36

I wonder just how long it would take to sing the Yellow Pages????

I wonder whose birthday it is tomorrow??????????????? I have a bigger pile of cards since the postman came. 13 to be exact at the last count.

Oh just gone ringing and he has taken that pic I took of Hogwart with him to show Zoe as she loves wildlife. She has even been to see the whales swiming on a very cold day out in a boat. She must be all of 74 and has beautiful skin and is an x policewoman. But she has her moods and if she is in a bad one watch out.......................oh can always get round her though. She still rings and does ring the tennor. A truely marvelous woman.

Frank

Frank Report 13 Feb 2013 20:22

She sounds a bit liker me Mel :-D :-D :-D But not the X policeman, I've only seen the whales at the local swimming pool lol lol

Stopped snowing here earlier, but when I put my nose outside it was very cold.

Was thinking of going to the pub tonight. Man Utd playing, but " A" too cold and "B" if that blokes there tonight I won't be answerable for my actions, I am not in the best of moods tonight TOO HOT Have shut down the heating, but it takes so long to cool down. Just a pair of shorts on again tonight. I should go to that place in Russia, might suit me !!! Sorry Mel, I didn't send it to you.

I rang the florist this morning. She hadn't received my Email that ordered the flowers, so it's a good job I did. I could see me in the DOG HOUSE :-D :-D :-D

21 again tomorrow then Mel. ?? I don't know where the weeks go !!
Girls and boys, If you click on MUM on Janes posting, it takes you somewhere else, Why and who allows this to happen. ???

Another favourite as a child. There was a lot of Diphtheria (had to look that up) around. We would stand on the kerb when an ambulance went by and say" Touch your collar, never swallow, never catch the fever" another tradition was when a hearse went by, you would stand at the roadside, and bend your head, and if you had a cap on you would remove it. Where have all the manners gone. ??? I still bow my head. It dosen't take a moment to show a sign of respect.

My next door neighbour Tony retired early, and seemed to know everyone locally who passed away, and was everlasting at the church or Crematorium, seeing "people" off. We use to call him "RENT A MOURNER" and caused a good laugh. :-D :-D :-D

Years ago, when he was Single, after divorce. Ros and I sent him a valentines card, and wrote in it. "If you would like a nice surprise" ring this number.. He couldn't resist ringing it. It was the Pub in Northampton where all the ladies of the night went. !!!

Another little story (hope i'm not boring you) was when we had a joke with John and Carolyn. just after we dug his pond. One Sunday afternoon Ros and I went to the local garden centre, and bought a decoy duck.Soon after this event, we had a dinner party at a friends house, and all were there, and not out of each others company. I had arrange with Harvey, to go to his pond Make a nest of straw, put some eggs in it with the duck sitting on the nest. When we all went home, we got a phone call from Carolyn. "COME QUICK" we knew what had happened, and went round three parts to the wind, and there she stood with the big outside light on, saying look we have a nest in the garden. How we stayed straight faced I will never know. A few weeks later, I happen to say to John. "Do you know the price of duck Eggs" Caught you,you Bas####. But how did you do it. we were in each others company all night !!!

Evening All,

I don't know Mel, I met him when he was age 32 and he had no more hair then than now!! That sounds like an interesting lady!

Well, we used up odds and ends for lunch today. The last of the cooked turkey I froze at Christmas with a wine sauce in a jar with some chopped carrot, swede and leeks and garlic added with broccoli for me and brown rice for him. Then he got his pancakes!! lol. That set him up nicely before going off to his meeting.

Mandy...........I'm Saturday's child, the one that worked hard for a living.....I did too 38 years full time without any breaks other than hols!! :-S I hope you are beginning to feel a lot better. A friend at class was ill at Christmas with something like you had. She's young and a real livewire, but she said she stayed in bed 2 days and then didn't get dressed as she had to keep laying down.

I remember the girl with the curl rhyme Fiona. If the doc knows you will have flare ups, do they know what is wrong? At least you are improving so that is good, even if it is slow and you get few of the flare ups.

Frank, I remember how people stood still and removed hats when a hearse went by, particularly the older chaps. When did people stop doing it I wonder. There doesn't seem much respect now in any way, shape or form. I can just picture that duck!! lol.

Just popping into say goodnight

Yes Annx they Nuro doctor has told me my head problem is inflammation of the nerve endings in the scalp , the reason why I could not get my head on the pillow to sleep was probably that the inflammation was from the neck upwards, could have been caused by stress, and I have had plenty of that during the time I looked after dad,

Off to bed now
catch up in the morning

Night :-)

Morning All and Evening Kim,

Bright sunny morning here today with plenty of blue sky.

Thanks for the birthday wishes and I am saving my cards for later when all the nessisary jobs are done. I have had two nice kisses and a cuddle from oh this morning which is quite unusual.

Our Zoe kept the picture of Hogwart and said he was too fat.

I remember people standing at the kerb as a funeral passed by, men with their hats off but I suppose men don't wear hats much these days. It was mainly trilby's in those days or cloth caps.

Now I'm miffed and just off to the `garage. They called when I was in the shower and told Chris that he car will not be ready today and asked me to ring back.I will go in and see just what on earth is going on.My insurance runs out on the courtesy car at midnight tonight and that will be 2 weeks. They won't cover any longer. So the Garage in my opinion can pay on their insurance for me to continue with the courtesy car.I don't see why I should have to cough up.

It is a lovely sunny morning and all the snow has gone in the night .No jumper for me today and definitely no fire :-D

Morning all and evening Kim

Happy Birthday Mel..Enjoy your day..It is Alans on the 18th...
I will pick his card up tomorrow....
My son from Paris bought me a handpainted street scene with the sacre Coeur in the back ground..Apperently it was the street we walked down after our visit there.
It wasent framed so I managed to buy a picture from the charity shop yesterday which I can adapt and use the frame..
.I kept forgetting to take the measurements in with me.The picture in the frame at the moment wont be a great loss..

Lovely valentime card Ann for your hubby I dont bother anymore lol

I also remember the rhymes from childhood..Used to play 2 ball against the coalshed door..What a noise..
