Evening All,
William that is my experience too. I have traded in cars I've had from new and got trade in prices without them even looking at the service record book. All they wanted to know was that there was a full service record and that the book was stamped. One car was a Renault that was under 3 years old. It mattered not a jot where the car was serviced as long as it was by a garage and not Johnny up the road.....hence the need for the book to have a garage stamp.
Regarding servicing in the warranty period William...... European regulations that govern after-sales servicing of new vehicles was changed in October of 2003. You are no longer obligated to return to a franchise dealer during the warranty period for your servicing. What you must do is stick to the manufacturer’s recommended schedule of servicing and use their approved parts. You also need to keep records that prove you have stayed within their requirements for warranty. I suppose some garages might not show as much 'goodwill' if you go 'independent' for your servicing, but if they want work that might not be a factor in these times!!
My local franchise garage has rung me 3 times in the last month to try and get me to book my car in for a service that is shortly due.......lo and behold they have suddenly been able to offer me cheaper prices.........why couldn't thy have done that before??? No, I shall continue to support my little garage that will pull out all the stops for me if necessary and save me money too.
Kim I had no idea you had the same problems as we do. If our ancestors hadn't worked so hard to make our lives better, no-one would be wanting to come would they. I hope your young lady does well in her interview on Monday. What kind of job is she trying for?
David, mum always called blotched legs like that from being too close to the fire 'corned beef' legs. :-)lol.

Mandy.I have just seen the snow in Norwich !! Nothing here until Sunday I think. I only ever knew one person who lived in the same house all her life. She was a lovely lady in her nineties.I got to know her when I worked for Victim Support after she had been mugged by 2 youths.I used to visit her at home after she came home from hospital and sometimes take her shopping as her son was a waste of space and never bothered much with her. Then it became clear she was not coping at home any longer and she had to move into a Residential Home.I thought it was so sad that it was only the last year of her long life that she never lived in that house :-(
Anyone having Frozen Lasagne tonight?? ;-).If some of them have been found to have 100% Horse meat, then people must have been eating and enjoying them :-S I know Belgians and French are big Horse meat eaters and it is the norm there. But not good for those here believing they are consuming Beef.
Sorry William talking about food there. But I didn't think you would fancy that :-D

When I was first married we rented for 5 years, so where my parents were was 'home' (they moved soon after I married) but as soon as we bought our first house, that became 'home', we've had six of them in 49 years, each one 'home' OH had six homes before he was 13, one of which was in India!!! His father was in the RAF, so lots of moving about!! Kim. I do hope your daughter is succesful, our son was certainly a lot less 'difficult' once he went to work and suddenly had to be responsible for keeping that job! (he was a trainee manager for W.H.Smith) I think, Kim, that children can often be 'fireside tyrants, and are a lot better with other people than they are with us their long suffering parents!!

I hope you are feeling a little better Mandy. You haven't moved too far then! :-) I lived in 7 different houses with my parents and went to 6 different schools (not much fun changing schools). Since I got married I have lived in 3 different houses. OH's parents have lived in the same house for 62 years and FIL has only lived in 2 houses in 92 years.
I think what you inherit counts a lot with teeth too. I have regular strong bottom teeth and gums like dad but my top teeth were higgledy piggeldy like mum's and have receding gums and a couple a bit loose. I've had a few out but Mum lost all of hers in her 50s. I was never taken to the dentist as a child, but from age 16 I have gone regularly. I had to wear a plate with tooth braces in my late teens and that took a bit of getting used to with eating and speaking as it was tight enough to loosen the teeth and move them. I sympathise William, but it will get easier after a few weeks, especially when the soreness goes. :-D I would shell out for implants but the dentist says the bone that's left isn't strong enough to support them. :-S Still, I hang on to 1 cheery thought about losing my top teeth and that is that the replacements are likely to look better than the originals!!
Jane, I wonder how long they have had horse meat in them......months, years??! I think there is some concern whether an antibiotic used on horses is in the products too. I don't eat beef anyway, but maybe it is in lamb dishes too. I suppose they are testing everything now. Talk about the dog's dinner......whatever next!

I lived in 4 homes with my parents, then various flats/nurses home etc When I married Chris in 1981 we shared a house with Jane a teacher, then moved to Nailsea(Bristol).Rented a house for 6 months and then bought our first house. We were there for 3 years and then moved to Kettering.Bought our second home in 1985 (Rockingham Rd Next door to Satra) Only Frank will know where I mean) :-D,and then in 1991 we moved to this house. When we bought our first house we moved in with the bare minimum of furniture. My parents bought us a bed,and Chris's parents gave us a bed settee and a reclining chair.I had no fridge or washing machine or hoover, but it was great as it was our first proper 'home'.I bought 2 Bean Bags and a second hand fridge. We had a tiny portable Black and White TV until we started renting one from Redifus*** (colour :-D :-D). I could get carried away now ,but must go and finish getting dinner. Not sure Chris is too impressed with cold Gammon. But hey ! Like it or lump it lol He will have plenty of other things to go with it.Then he will ask what's for pudding!!!!!!! Nothing :-S

Morning everyone,
Another hot day up around 32 degrees and a strong breeze blowing.
Daughter is looking at a retail job with a mobile phone company. She has done casual work at the supermarkets for the past two years, so has some experience dealing with customers. We will see how it all goes. She still has her shifts at Wo*lies to fill the gap.
I wouldn't mind an influx of Polish immigrants who are willing to work. Aus. will become an Is**mic state if the intake continues at this rate and they are calling for Sh**ia law would you believe. Ann exactly our ancestors worked hard and fought for the freedoms that we enjoy. As soon as these folk get arrested for rioting, it is racist and not the fact that they are breaking the laws of the land.
You are not allowed to wish anyone a Merry Christmas as it may offend certain groups or have birthday cakes in pre-schools in case the child blowing out the candles spreads germs F&^$()()(%. What a nanny state we have become. This is a christian country and they should be learning to assimilate and become productive citizens whilst still having their own culture. That's the least you should expect. That's my rant for the day. Oh most importantly there is a call to change Australia Day to Citizen's Day, whatever next. It is apalling.
I have to fold some washing and do some other bits and pieces, so I might be back later when all you sleepy heads are awake. 2.51pm ADST

Yes, Kim, I've heard that Australia would appear to be copying Britain!!!! I think we feel the same as you, this also is a Christian country and while people are welcome to come here we also feel that they should integrate with the laws and customs of our society while of course being able to practice their religious beliefs, as can any religious sects in a civilised society; But this constant 'pussyfooting round' and the appeasing of certain sections is just ridiculous and pathetic. If I lived in a foreign country wherever it was, I would expect to fit into that countries culture, not for them to fit in with me - if people don't like what we do and say, don't stay here!!!! If they change 'Australia Day' for Citizens Day, I hope that folk like you will make it crystal clear how offended YOU are!!! Mind you, if it's anything like Britain, that won't be important!! Mucky old day here - papers, crossword, telly in that order!!! Venice Jane? I shall be envious! I went there years ago and it was/is fantastic, very beautiful, make sure you go to where they blow glass - it's quite astonishing!

Morning/Evening All
I second that Liz. :-D Another hot day there for you Kim and there is Shirl up to her ears in snow. Thanks Shirl for the pics. That does look an awful lot of snow you have there. We are having some wet sleet /snow at the moment.
Liz I have been to Venice a couple of times and it is my favourite place of all.Murano is the Island where the glass is made.If we go which I'm pretty sure we will it will probably be the end of September.
I spent about 20 minutes just watching all the activity in the back garden.I pulled back my bedroom curtain to see .1 squirrel running around the lawn ,1 squirrel hanging upside down on the peanut ball,2 Moorhens pottering about right up near the patio ,loads of Robins,Tits Sparrows etc flitting to and fro the Coconuts, and then 2 Wood pidgeon I being pestered by the other. The male was parading behind the female bowing his head with his backside in the air lol. Then 3 Ducks flew over the garden. It was busy busy busy .One Moorhen kept trying to chase off the squirrel and the squirrel was doing the same to one of the Pidgeons. I felt quite exhausted lol watching all that.
How are you this morning Mandy?A bit better I hope.
Now I need to get on so will BBL

Morning all, tis me and I've actually been able to eat a bit. Still cool soft foods, but managed better than the previous few days. The antibiotics are working fast and I can feel such a difference.
I was ranting on about my dental problems but also yesterday afternoon I had to take poor Carmel to our doctor to have the scope up her nose and down into her throat. Well, she has been so worked up about it but come the time our (favourite) doctor was marvelous with her and it was so much less traumatic than she expected. However, he was formally a ENT doctor at the hospital in Coventry so he knows what he is about. He said she has a condition (long name as usual!) in her throat and while it's not life threatening or anything sinister, there is no treatment for it. In other words, it is permanantly sore - he even let me have a look down the scope. It's just that with her Lichen Planus and the dystonia it just means her mouth and throat are just one big problem area for her. The only medicine I can offer her is plenty of T L C, so I do my best.
It snowed earlier but it's gone now. Nothing like the snow in the photos that Shirley sent by email. I'll have to go out and feed the birds soon, they are landing on the bird table and giving me the evil eye through the window.
I'm glad my thing about 'home' got a few things going. I've got some drawings that I did of our house in Chadwell Heath, from the 40's, 50's etc, so I'll email them out, see what you think. I mean, Chadwell Heath makes it sound a very rural area doesn't it. Well, there was no heath, no in our time anyway, St Chad's was our local parish church, so I guess he had a well someone in the country!. Anyone who knows the area will know the intersection with the High Road and Whalebone Lane. One time, before we got there, there was a 'big house' near the junction and the entrace gate was flanked by two huge whalebones forming an entrance arch. Norra lorra people know that LOL.
Right, I'll get off and sort out that email. C Y A L

Sorry Jane, I didn't mean to sound like a clever clogs!!! As you say it was the island of Murano where they 'blow the glass' I couldn't remember it's name and was too lazy to look it up!! I've got a small glass fish that was 'blown' for me while I waited, heaven only knows how it has survived all our house moves, and general chaos, but it is lovely and a treasure.(Lace making too!) I went there with my parents in 1961!! and again just after they died, with OH, on both occasions I really loved the place and had a fabulous time, but it's a long time ago and it's probably diffeernt now. Oh David, that's a really sad sad story, some people are just SO awful! I remember once when I was staying with my uncle in London, a couple of boys came to the front door saying that they had kicked their football over into his back garden and could he help them to look for it!! Well, one lad went through to the garden with my uncle who had agreed to help(!!) and the other one hung back! Fortunately, I rumbled what they were about and hung back too! eventually, (no football, of course,) they mumbled something about a mistake! and took off at speed down the road!! obviously, one was there to distract and the other to?........! Sadly for them I foiled that!!
