Gosh Jane, it will seem a bit strange having Chris around some/all the time after years of a particular routine. My MIL used to say 'For better, for worse, but not for lunch'!!! I didn't agree with her very often, but in this instance?????!!!!!!! When M & L were teenagers, I wanted something to do as housework had definitely lost it's attraction! and a friend suggested that I joined an agency in Oxford who found child minders, granny sitters, cleaning ladies and so on for anyone and everyone. So off I went, and it was brilliant as you could work somewhere for X number of weeks, then be sent somewhere else or have a break if you felt like it, or whatever. One of these childminding jobs was for a 'milord' who was divorced. so I ended up going between two parents(!) on different days, here, there and everywhere with this toddler! I stayed there for two years and during that time went with --- for a three week holiday in Brazil (Rio), that was certainly an experience and included going to the beach with toddler along with an armed guard!!!! After------ re-married, I decided that it was time for a change, and found an old lady (she was lovely) who needed a sitter two afternoons a week. After whe went into a home I got job in the same place, from there to a lovely residential home in Abingdon for a year,(some of those ladies were such characters!!) and then to Somerset another bedridden lady living ith her family who were slightly tearing their hair, and then to the care company where I stayed for 15 years!! I do hope that the next day or two are not too taxing for you William, I will be thinking of you both.

Just thought I'd tell you what the photo is here. It's Carmel standing by the Gold pillar box in Bedworth to mark an Olympic win.by a member of one of our old Bedworth families (ran the pharmacy for years) when one of the Skelton family won gold in the equestrian event in 2012. It stands outside the Co-Op/Bedworth Civic Hall, or opposite our Health Centre - whoever wants to take the credit for it!

Yes, I hope all goes well,William, although it must be very difficult particularly for Carmen. I hope you will be well wrapped up for the cold and it would be nice to see pics of the flowers when you return. :-)
Vertigo must be awful Mandy, so I have great sympathy with your hubby. Hopefully he will soon improve.......not a good thing to have when climbing up on any rooftops like he does in his job at times!!
Good luck on the retirement, well semi-retirement front Jane!! At least you will be eased into it gently up to September! I wonder how you will find it? Yours is a diffAt least yours will probably be quieter than mine! Mine was so on the ball at work, but home is another matter now I expect him to share a bit of the load and he's been retired 3 years now. Two tips.......'I've got it in hand' means I've forgotten all about it and 'I'll do it tomorrow' sounds good, but the memory won't be!! lol. I found the house gets a lot messier too and things vanish out of the fridge, but you probably get that with James being at home :-S Glad your winning with your varifocals! :-D You won't want anything different once you are used to them.
I got 1 email Frank.... :-D

Hello everyone,
Just a quick visit to let Frank know his emails are getting through to me.
Weather was lovely earlier, but now the sun is gone under the clouds. Might be some rain on the way.
Jane funny that you should mention you were a nanny in Greece. One of my schoolfriends did the same thing and she has just revisited the family and all her grown up charges. She posted some lovely photos of the family whilst she was there. Great to keep in touch with people after all those years and to meet their families.
Car has had roadworthy and all to set to go off to the new home tomorrow. I will be pleased to get it off the lawn; grass is all dead and the rangers make random checks. We could be fined for having it on their land. Hope the young girl takes care of it.
Have a good day all. Might BBL. 4.45 pm ADST

Morning All and Evening Kim,
We have sun at the moment but still that cold wind. All chicken drinkers frozen solid so they have had to have their water in the trough.
Mandy I was thinking the same as Ann yesterday about poor Colin and his roof jobs. You tell him to be especially careful now...........
Hope David is ok today. Is the hospital far from home for Ellen to travel too?
Positive thoughts to William and Carmel. Sending wishes and thinking of you both.

Here Here Mel, I hope things go well for Wednesday Will. Not the best thing to do on a cold winters day. I know, I have been there. !!
Can't understand you not getting Emails Jane, please most of you are <3 <3
I have got this horrible noise going on in my head. WHOOSH< WHOOSH. It's the blood pumping round the system, I couldn't get to sleep with it last night, and awake at 4.50 am this morning. I keep trying to shut my ears off but it sounds even worse. Nursey what can I do ????
Oh Mandy it must he horrible for your ON. Hope it clears soon, we don't want another hospital patient.
David, It seems when you do a job, you do it well. How is Ellen getting to hospital to visit. Can she drive. ??
Jane, I am sure Chris will keep from under your feet, by being in his garden, or his den. Just make sure you don't keep finding him JOBS to do. Remember he hasn't been there all these years, so don't PUT on him <3 <3 <3
Mel, that wind is enough to cut you in half, I only went to the garage, and OMG was it blowing. !!
Liz, You certainly went into the caring with both feet, didn't you. What a lovely thing to happen three weeks in Rio.
When my dad was dying with cancer, the District Nurse said, I was doing equally as good a job looking after him, as he would have got from a fully trained nurse. The same was said by my MIL and FIL doctors and nurses (Ros's M & D )perhaps I missed my calling. I know after Ros's car accident, I was like a mother hen, and always had everything laid out for the nurse. I couldn't pack the abses, but stood and watched with great interest.
David, I know how you feel. When in hospital after my stroke. The young nurses would get me out of bed, into the wheelchair and into the shower. They would wash my hair, body, and shave me. Then gry and dress my in clean PJs then back to bed. But my, how good it felf to be all fresh and clean. LAY BACK AND ENJOY IT. it won't last forever.
Ros is off out in a mo. with Caroline. The Tele can go off then, and I will get my book out and have a read.
Stay safe everyone if you are out and about.

Morning all and evening Kim.
I have just walked the dogs..They could do with a good run..just have to make do with the garden..Took maxs lampshade off and walked them to the shop where I work..They wanted to see them..It was hard going at least the snow has gone under foot. You were all talking about pocket money earlier..My pocket money was about the same value as yours..When my grandparents came round every week my brother and I were given 3d..used to look forward to that as well.
My grandparents also had a car we didn't and often went for a ride with them as well..Austin 7 or something like that with the indicators popping out..Then they all had to be changed to the light ones. Thinking of you William and family..David I hope you are feeling alittle bit more comfortable..
Jane When does your hubby retire ?

An other little memory.
Every Christmas, Uncle Joe (Mums Brother) would call over from Canning Town with FIVE nexts years sixpences. one for each of us children. Where he was able to get "NEXT YEARS DATED ONES" I never found out.
Our Pocket money was the thruppenny joey, which was used at Phillips's on Sat evening, with our sweet coupons.
By the age of EIGHT I had a milkround with our local Milkman I use go go out and meet him before school Mon/Fri. then all day Sat. and Sun. for two shillings a week. When I got a paper round age 13 I got four shillings fot that I did two paper rounds in the morning. Claybury Hospital and Dr Barnardos. (MEL Will know those. On Friday I would deliver the Express and Independant, which was a local paper the size of the TIMES It took me 2 hours to deliver all those on my trade bike, and that earnt me another 2/6d So you could say I have been self sufficient since EIGHT years of age. And worked a further 50 yeasrs from 15/65. So I am entitled to do nothing now, if I want too.!!
Mel I have been on the computer all morning trying to work out the new way of getting and sending my Emails.
Will go a get a bit of lunch now, and a coffee.
See you later.

Afternoon All,
Just back from the carvery and a potter around a garden centre on the way. My word it IS cold and blowy! We saw a lot more snow drifting along the lanes than here but it was strange as there was no snow on the opposite sides of the lanes, must just be how the wind blew!!
I remember when I had my operation, 10 years ago now, and I lay in bed with drains still in, the young nurse just gave me a soaped flannel for me to do the downstairs furniture so to speak and politely gazed away while I did it!! The next day when the drains were out I was led to the shower dragging my drip stand with me. It was only when I'd showered that I realised I'd forgotten my towel, but luckily I was 'checked on' after a few minutes and one was fetched.
Lots of emails from Frank to catch up on now! ;-)

I agree whole heartedly with that Frank. When I say to my son I didn't get up till gone 9am he says, alright for some and my reply, I've earned the right to stay in bed when you get to 60+ you can do the same :-P
My thoughts will be with you and Carmel tomorrow William, such a sad time for you both and the family, hope all goes well, and wrap up warm there's always a lot of standing about outside. I'm sure you will be a great comfort to Carmel <3
I hated school, and left one month after my 15th birthday, went to work for the GPO, they don't call it that now do they, as a telephonist and quickly realised school wasn't so bad after all, I earned £4 10s a week, half of that went to my mum for housekeeping and nearly all the rest went on train fares into London, did anyone see Hello Girls with Letitia Dean a few years ago, it was just like that.
Are you looking forward to having Chris home a lot more Jane, I expect it has its pros and cons. I've seen the Pompeii Exhibition advertised but daughter didn't fancy it, I think we might go to the London Dungeon, last time we went the children were quite young and we had to go out as daughter was too scared, hope she's braver this time lol.
Off to daughters in Bedford for Easter, was going to do an Easter Sunday dinner here but couldn't get everyone together at the same time. Oh well, at least I won't have to cook now.
Has Colin only just developed vertigo Mandy, he won't be able to get on roofs will he.
Thanks for the e.mails Frank, I have missed them.
David, I hope you are progressing well and soon able to go home, just shows you what can happen from one simple action, there'll be no more jumping walls/fences for you I bet <3
Thanks for the photos Ann, made me feel cold just looking at them. It is bitterly cold here but we've had no snow, not yet anyway.

Ain't 'erd that for a long time Mel, But yes I agree.
So much for my quiet afternoon with my book.
Jan and Conrad are going to Essex tomorrow on business, and are calling in on the way back. They do not know what time. So I said I would make a sheppards pie.
Got everything ready, at the same time I got dinner ready for tonight, and thought I might just as well make it, out of the way, and give me a quiet day tomorrow. By the time I had done all the veg for us tonight and prepared the lamb joint (garlic and rosemary, with lots of chopped up veg in the bottom of the pan.with a bit of gravy for moisture. That is now in a low oven to cook for a couple of hours. Then I browned the mince, cut up carrot and onions, added my little bits to add to the taste, cooked in all and put it in a dish, boiled the potato, mashed and spread on top (haven't done enoughj potato) Will do a bit more tomorrow. I came into the lounge to find it's almost 4.00 pm.
When Ros comes in, she will think I have been sitting around all day (I WISH) Still have our pots and parsnips to par boil for the oven later. Veg tonight Cabbage, carrots and peas and runner beans.. Ros has got herself a job tonight. WASHING UP)
It's so true what they say, when you have been "Slaving over a hot stove all day, you don't feel hungry" ALL TOGETHER NOW A BIG AHHHHHHHHHHHH Only joking, I will eat like a 'ORSE.
If ever you want a lodger Ann, just say so. ;-) ;-) ;-) I could get use to going to the carvery like you :-D :-D :-D What a like you live <3 <3 <3
Looking forward to the football tonight. Should be a good game. Wheather I will go to the pub, is yet to be decided. I can sit and watch my tele, with a few beers, so I think I have made my own mind up. !!

I never saw Hello Girls Maureen, but I reckon working for the GPO would have been a good job to get then. ;-) Like you say though, we never had much left out of our wages once board and travel were taken out. We wouldn't have dreamed of going into debt though like many do these days on their credit cards. Mum always said if you can't afford it wait till you can!! That will be nice to go to your daughter's for easter. Pity the weather isn't better for meeting at the garden centre if you'd had time, but hopefully there will be a chance to meet up later this year. :-)
Well that triggered a memory Frank.........getting new coins at Christmas! I remember finding them in my Christmas stocking in the toe with the walnuts I never liked then! lol. I was thinking how good it would be to be your lodger with all the nice meals you do, especially all the veg you do which I love!! lol. It is a nice treat every week at this particular carvery, smiley staff and 2 courses and as much tea or coffee as you want for less than £20 for the two of us.............dearer in the evening though as is usual.
I've just put out more raisins and sultanas as the birds have polished off yesterday's that I put out.
OH has found a match to go to tonight so I bet he will hardly be able to move when he has all his layers on for the cold!! Much nicer indoors in the warm for me I think. :-)

My mum always said that too Ann and I think it must have registered with me, I have never owned a credit card and don't intend to, but I don't think my lot could survive without one.
Yes it would be good to meet up again, maybe later in the year.
You've been saving up all the really good e.mails then Frank, laughed out loud with the What I owe my parents one.
