Afternoon all,

Still snowing here, it must be getting close to 6 inches in places. The sky looks full of it, so I think there in more and more to come.

What's this about the drifts being three times taller than you Jane, I didn't realise you were nearly SEVEN FOOT TALL. LOL LOL. You are as short as a man with no legs !!!

Had a nice lazy day so far. Got up about 9.00 (late for me) still had some weired dreams, had my cups of tea. No breakfast today. Read the paper and did the veg, made the Yorkshire pudding and cheese sauce for the cauli (you should try it JANE) you might like it. !!!!

Mandy I still can't believe you are not getting all this snow. I had a right job getting the bins out for collection tomorrow (If they come) The wheelie bin kept getting stuck in the snow..

The girls DIDN'T like the Mouse Trap. It was set in a living room, back years ago. They both kept dropping of to sleep, but some of the older folks seemed to enjoy it by the sould of the laughter. I said it was a classic and ran in the West End for 60 years !!!

Mel, You are lucky in some respects, with no snow. At least the girls will be able to peck around !!

Going to attact yesterdays paper now, Ros never bought it home till 6.30 pm so never had a chance yesterday.

The skate wing was lovely juble, with chips and mushy peas, lots of vinegar, and Tartare sauce.

Frank, I'm not surprised about 'The Mousetrap'! It has been going for donkey's years which is amazing and must be very old fashioned by now!!
What a cold day it is here. My SIL skyped from her home in South West France where it is 22 degrees!! they were about to have lunch outside on their veranda! I was a bit 'gritted teeth'! but polite!!
L's just phoned and they are coming to lunch next Sunday, so including M there will be 8 of us! have to get my head round veg etc AND a pud! I'm really looking forward to it as we haven't all been together for ages.

I think this will be the first year that I won't be cooking Easter Sunday Lunch for the family,as we won't be back from London until later on the day.I expect I will do something on the Monday.
I was looking at Easter Eggs and even though I said I wouldn't buy any I succumbed .
Ever since James was old enough to have Easter eggs he has always asked for a Yorki* one.So in his 27th year he will still have one lol.I got Hannah and John just little token bunnies.I'm not carting Chocolate eggs on the train.
My dear old Mum loved getting Eggs at Easter especially when she was in her 80's and had Dementia. She have them rowed up on a shelf and then say "I think I will just have a bit".Well within minutes a whole egg would have disappeared :-D.Then she wondered why she felt a bit sick lol.She would then forget what she had just eaten ,and spy another egg....."Oooh she would say .I haven't had a bit of Chocolate for years"!!!!!!.Bless her :-D

I have spent the last couple of hours copying Recipes from recipe cards and cuttings into a book.So I an have them all in one place instead of bits of paper all over the joint .I have writers cramp now so will give it a rest now.

I have just given Chester a mixture of his usual dried food plus some of his new food.He has picked through it and chucked a lot of the Usual on the floor and eaten the New :-D...That is a really good sign :-D :-D

Nice to see you about David. Please tell us what has happend to you. I know you had an accident, but no further details.

There is a thaw going on at the moment, but from the sioze of the iceicles it must still be bery cold out there.

Lewis phoned, last night they lost SK# so he went out and threw snowballs at the dish to dislodge the snow. The picture came back soon after.

Dinner all finished, Ros is just finishing off the washing up and cleaning down, i'm ready for 40 winks.

LilyL Report 24 Mar 2013 17:59

Heavens David, DON'T give out ANY details of your finances over the phone however genuine the caller sounds. I had someone purporting to be from Barclay Card sometime ago, when I said I would have to check with them as to the validity of the call they soon rang off! I did check and sure enough it was a scam! and they (B.C) told me never to give out financial details on the phone, as Banks and Credit Card Co's simply don't ask for these via telephone for security reasons. Please ignore it or get hold of your bank and credit card co and check it out!!!! Do hope you are feeling better now and will be A1 very soon.
No Jane I don't cheat!! I shall make a pud, probably Apple Crumble and a Jelly with cream. L's bringing an Easter Cake with smarties on it! I'm afraid I don't give M & L easter eggs any more only the three 'littles'. I shall, however, hide some small ones in the garden for 'people' to find so they might be lucky! mind you, if they don't freeze to death!!

Annx Report 24 Mar 2013 18:32

Afternoon All,

More snow overnight here, but not enough to be a problem although the wind had whipped up a few drifts that were across the road in places.

I'm very glad you were impressed Liz!! lol........my dad was positively underwhelmed! He was very annoyed that the Headmistress wrote and told him she thought I should continue my education!! I've said before about failing my 11 plus at age 7, but my education then stood still for 2 years till I did the 11 plus at the proper age!! I remember I used to be asked to help the children who had difficulty reading.......I don't think they really knew what to do with me for that couple of years. I wanted to be a vet, but was quite squeamish, so I'm sure it would have been genetics I would have studied if I'd gone to uni. Even years later when I bred Canaries, the genetics and inheritance of colour types and markings fascinated me and all because of school and Mendel with the smooth and the wrinkly peas!

Like you say though, things do stand you in good stead and I took great delight in telling Dad I needed my 'O' levels for my Civil Service job!! I think good can come of most experience......if you have responsibilities and have to pay your way from a young age I think you become a good budgeter and manager of your money and learn how to make it go further and to do without what you can't afford. It gives you motivation to do something about your situation to better it too if you aren't being supported too much!

Another happy memory Dermot! That baking and the smell of it must have been wonderful. My gran used to bake lovely fruit pies on those enamel plates with the blue edge. As a child I loved getting the pastry leftovers and being asked to make some leaves for the tops!

Mandy, I used to get hormonal migraines each month for a few days at a time, and felt sick but wasn't. They all stopped once I reached a 'certain age' thank goodness!! OH has always had them and has been sick at times, but he gets no headache. He gets the aura effects like Mel, mostly zigzagging flashing lights across his vision in his case and has to lie down in a dark room for a few hours. The tablets from the chemist seem to work very well if you can take them at the first sign, but migraines leave you feeling very washed out. I hope your hubby feels a lot better now.

What a shame about Joy, Kim. She seems to have gone downhill since those first falls. I am with Jane on your heat.......just seeing those temps you have has made me appreciate that it isn't sweltering here!! lol.

Well our snow has all gone ,we've even had a little sun this afternoon ,should be frosty tonight though,i think we must have just caught the edge of the snow .

Hubby's a bit better ,he had some beef and enjoyed it,and Toby had some of the off cuts and a couple of batter puds too :-D
That's good that Chester has taken to the new food Jane ,i suppose it's a new taste for him at the moment .

I always buy son and DIL an egg each ,and the little ones like the Easter Egg hunt ,i hope the weather improves or it will have to be indoors this year , i will have to put Toby out of the way while they do it , he will soon sniff the eggs out !!

I hope your recovering well now David after your op's , what happened if you don't mind me asking ?

We have both had a lazy day ,hubby has not moved far and i've only cooked the meal and loaded the dish washer .

How's the painting going Shirl ? are you all straight now , that green is a lovely restful colour for a bedroom.

Still no Fiona?

Two seperate os on left leg.External scaffoding frames bolted to my femuur and tibia with wiring through from the frames to the various bits of fractured bone. Did it jumping over my own garden wall ,landed very badly.I shud have had more sense? There,s no fool like an old fool.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Mar 2013 19:37

I do wish we could find out what happened to David too. Please recover soon and be back with us all and tell us what happened to you.
Love and well wishes to you David.

Dermot I always put rose buds and leaves on the top of a fruit pie and just leaves on a meat one. My nan and mum used to do that so I have always done it too.

I don't ever remember having pie at my mums mums house but know she always had kippers for tea on a Sturday as we used to go there after shopping and grandad always had his kippers. Mum said when she was young the three children would have winkles and bread and butter while their parents had the kippers. Nan also cooked the same meals on the same day every week so mum would always know what she had for dinner when she got in.

Mum was given money for school dinners and she would buy herself a peach with it instead of having a dinner.

Kim poor Joy, as Mandy said she just seems to have gone down hill since that first fall she had. It is so awkward when they want to be so independant at that age. They just won't give in.

How much longer will you be in hospital for ? sounds a very bad break ,take care <3

Annx Report 24 Mar 2013 21:09

Oh David, that was some fall wasn't it!! I bet you were wishing you could rewind your life 10 minutes once you landed badly. It's easy to be wise after the event though. Is it a high wall? It must be very uncomfortable trying to sleep with that scaffolding on, but I suppose it has to stay in place while things heal.Very best wishes to you in your recovery and I hope you are soon home and back with us on here.

That was strange your wife getting those phone calls after you had gone into hospital, might be a bit too much of a coincidence I would think. :-S

Still on the pie front, mum was a good pastry cook and used to make all kinds of pies and tarts. I remember decorating hers too. Putting twisted strips across the tops of the open ones to make a lattice top and cutting the edges inwards in half inch intervals, then overlapping each strip onto the neighbouring one all around the edge. Then there were all the edges you could make with your fingers, pinching and pushing to make a variety of wavy ones. I remember cutting little circles out of the leftover pastry and overlapping them all around the edge too, after brushing with egg or milk to make them stick.

We thought MIL had finally got the message last year when we told her NOT to get us any eggs (well her son is 60 now!!) but she still asked again this year......still NO! We'll get ourselves one after easter when they are reduced if we really want one. :-)

Yes Fiona hasn't been on here for a while has she..........she had a cold coming I think.

I hope those bones knit back together well and that you will be back on two feet before long. <3

Hello everyone,

After 15 minutes and 7 error messages, I managed to get on here.

Another lovely day, but down to 27 and not as humid. Far better for me to cope with. Jane it's the humidity that's the killer, if the heat was dry it would be better. It is very different all over Aus.

So glad that Chester ate the new food, must be a relief for you.

Not buying eggs this year, but I guess Miranda will get one from her boyfriend. Would rather give them a gift card to buy what they want.

Well my very old car is going to a new home. After a new waterpump, battery, tyres and timing belt, daughter's boyfriend's younger sister is going to have it to learn to drive. I'm so happy and it is running like a new car. I thought it would be off to the wreckers, so she's had a reprieve. :-) :-) The grandmother is paying for the parts and to re-register it.

That's a lot of surgery David and a long recovery. I wish you well with it. Have had those terrible bank calls too. Stupidly I told them which bank we were with, but not any account details. The banks sent us new cards just as a precaution. I hate these predators. Wish the police could do more to charge them. They are always 10 jumps ahead. :-(

Lamb cutlets and veggies for tea tonight. OH has the small Web**r fired up. Have a good day, hope the weather is on the improve for you. 5.27 pm ADST

This business in Cyprus is a bit of a worry! Those poor people I do feel sorry for them, what a situation to find yourself in! I so agree with you Ann, that the earlier in life you learn to cut your cloth etc the better, makes managing much easier later on if you are even vaguely 'used to it'! Perhaps poor Cyprus, with hind sight, should have been a bit more prudent!! Talking of that I can remember when I first went to work and became responsible for that 'season ticket/bus fare, I used to buy one for the six months of the winter and in the summer I rode by bicycle the 6-7 miles in to Oxford every day, and of course back again in the interests of saving money. I must have been fit, I don't think I could ride to village these days.
David, that was an awful fall you had, I do hope you feel better soon. Must away now to post P's b.day card, 13! I can't believe it - L will soon be able to send her out to work!!!!!
