Morning All and Evening Kim,

Hope you enjoyed your cutlets.

Bit brighter here today but still very cold.

David I wish you as speedy a recovery as you can get. You silly boy fancy jumping over a wall at your age. Still we all do these silly things sometimes but it seems you have a big price to pay for your mistake. I hope you are not in too much pain and will be on the mend pretty soon.
Love and wishes. x

Well I have another visit to the opticians today to get my new frames for my second pair of glasses that were scratched on the side of the frame. Also the pair I am wearing are still slipping down my nose a bit so hopefully they can tighten just the one side a bit. I don't think I shall be able to wear them for gardening as they still don't feel as safe as my old ones so perhaps they will be my gardening glasses or I shall have to buy a sports band for the new ones.

Yesterday I had two attachment through GR. Never had that before. You can send pics this way so I may have to have a go and see if I can work it.

Is it me or are the pages on here a little darker than the bright white pages we had earlier. They do seem to be a bit more manable to read or is it my new glasses?

Must get my parking money ready for when I go out.

Have ordered our prescriptions so thats out the way for another month.

Anyone see that car accident on the news in Suffolk, that went straight into the side of a house? He must.nt half have been travelling to end up where he did.

Frank Report 25 Mar 2013 11:19

My oh My David, Did you think you were a SPRING CHICKED ??? Jumping over a wall. I couldn't jump over matchstick, without falling on my ar#e lol lol. Hope you are soon on the road to recovery. Keep your feet on the ground old son. !!

Yes dinners were very predictable in our house too. Sunday "H" bone of beef, Monday Cold meat and Chips, Tuesday Rissols, Wed Sheppards Pie, Thurday Liver and bacon done in the oven. Friday Fish in all types of disguise. Boild, steamed, fried, baked Saturday Tea Soused Herrings. But I can say we never went hungry.

Ros always puts little leaves on top of her pies. When I make sheppards pie for Conrad, he likes chillies, so I mark the top with a "C" at one end, so I know it's his.

Sorry you haven't been well Fiona, you need some TLC I'm available <3 <3 <3 If you will pay my fare!!!.

No more snow, but that wind looks freezing, and the snow is still lying thick on the lawns. You are so lucky Mandy, that you didn't get much.

Nice to see you about Kim. Your weather would suit me down to the ground, I can see myself lying in your garden soaking up all the sunshine. Roll on SUMMER over here. It's good your little car is going to a good home.

Ann, Did you buy lots of things at the NEC ???and were there any freebies

Shower and Shave time now. Ros is busy doing my months supply of tablets into the daily box's. Then it will be perscription time. Where do the months go ???

We don't buy Eggs for children now. Lewis wants MONEY so he can buy what he wants. Which is good, I'm sure all this chocolate isn'y good for them. I see in the paper that sales are down to try to combate obestite, but some will never learn. I have never been a sweetie person. I think my upbringing had something to do with it. During the War, it was all rationed, and when it came off rationing in the fifties, you couldn't afford it. The only sweets I like now is Bertie Bassets, and Humbugs, when I am in the car. (THAT WHY I AM SO SLIM) LOL LOL.

LilyL Report 25 Mar 2013 12:12

I agree with you Frank over chocolate and begin to think that I would have done better to have bought something else instead of easter eggs, but 'what's done is done', for this year!
Sweet rationing is the only rationing that I can remember. My parents let me have their quota as they didn't really eat sweets, so I had three sets of coupons! I can remember going up the road to the tobacconist and buying honeycombe crunchies, barley sugar sticks and goodness knows what else. Can't have been very good either for health or teeth, but then of course we played outside a lot, walked to most places, ran for the bus and rode our bikes, so plenty of exercise!
We always had roast on Sunday and cold on Monday and usually fish on Friday. the rest of the week was varied, but always flipping LOVELY, and always a pudding of some sort! I'm afraid that I don't bother with that on a daily basis, only on 'high days and holidays'.
Must take Millie for a decent walk this afternoon, and not just 'round the block'. If only it would get a bit warmer!!!!

It's still freezing here and the birds water was frozen this morning.

Done all jobs that need doing before I go out this afternoon so I had better do his lunch now. It is always toasted cheese and onion on a Monday as he loves those. I don't............................ Seeings as I hav'nt eaten anything yet I shall have a bowl of cereal so I can take my pills.

While rummaging around prior to moving house last year, I found my very first pay-slip dated September 1968 from my employer at the time - the National Bank, now part of RBS.

£39.6s 8p (in the 'old money') was my net monthly pay, which equated to £620.00pa gross. Bank bonuses were yet to be invented.

As you now know, RBS has been in slow decline ever since my move to another job in 1970, for an increased salary of £744.00pa. That'll teach them!

I can remember have 3d a week pocket money when I was about 7 going up to 6d when I was 10, finally going to a 1/- a week when I was 13, and 3/- when I was 15, and there it stayed till I left school! It had to last, if you ran out of money you had to wait till saturday before being in funds again! taught you to be careful, and I still am!!

Jane Report 25 Mar 2013 14:26

My first pay (other than holiday or saturday jobs) was £20 per month plus living in as a Nanny in Athens.I still don't know how I managed on so little. This was in 1972.It sounded much more in Drachmas lol
My pocket money started at 3d too. Then 6d,1shilling ,2shillings and finally 2/6d.I felt very grown up then ...half a crown! :-D :-D

Jane, I envy you doing your stint in Greece, it must have been a terrific experience. Was it after that you started your nursing career? Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and if I had my time again I would have gone into Social Services and concentrated on the elderly, as it was when I left school I didn't know what I wanted to do, so did a sec course and didn't get going with social care till we went to Somerset in 1992 when I was 49!! so a bit late to do anything else other than join a care company and work up from that! Mind you, could have been a poisonous challice, seeing people in distress and having to go through the appopriate channels to get something done would have been-a challenge!!! bad enough when I was older, but when I was young I would have yanked them out of wherever, and probably got the sack!!!
Millie loved her walk and is now eating her supper - I'm still putting ointment in her eyes, which she is 'wise to' so not quite as co-operative as she was!!

Hi all,

Have been on a CHAT with BT for about two hours, trying to sort out my Emails. I still can't get them though my icon. I have to go through BT Yahoo.com and go into mail. Not as easy as before, but at least I can get to see who's sending things, and I have forwarded a few items. HAVE YOU RECEIVED THEM ???

As I said before 1953 was when I started work at 11 1/4d an hour. When I went to the City it was £3.00 per week. When I came out of the RAF it went to £13.00. OH how I remember earning my FIRST £1,000.00 per year. I really thought I had made it. Now a lot of the Yuppies wonld'nt get out of bed for that amount PER WEEK. I know my nephew had a Bonus from a German bank one year of £500,000.00 But my GOD what a job he had. !!

It's funny because tonight, I am having Cold Meat and chips, and Ros will have hers with baked pots, in onion gravy and cabbage and carrots.

Will go and see how hers is going.

Hi everyone. We are off to Skegness tomorrow, Jim's funeral is on Wednesday, I hope you all spare a thought for us. Not looking forward to it but Carmel needs closure for her youngest son. I know she is going through a very troubled time and I'm not even sure I can fathom the depth of her grief.
At a time when there is a lot going on with the Coventry end of the family, the last thing I need is phone calls that turn out to be recorded junk messages. Why can't they do us all a favour and get real, human voices with junk messages are bad enough, recorded ones jus p*** me off.

Hoping to be back with you all on Friday and I'll try not to be so morose then. I've been to see the floral tributes we have ordered this morning from both Carmel and myself and the ones that's been done for her daughter. A local lady does them and they are truly beautiful. Not sure if it's the sort of thing that I should email out, but if anyones interested, I'll send them individually when I get back. We sorted out our design and I did the artwork, we needed something original and very personal and she has come up trumps.

I had some photos of baby Grace to send out but my phone just doesn't want to part with them at the moment. Perhaps my phone is just hogging them to itself she is so lovely LOL.

Liz,I was just 18 when I went to work in Greece.I had a ball ,but also managed to get myself into a few pickles lol.But it was an amazing experience and I'm so glad I went.
I didn't go into Nursing until I was about 24 (I think).I had wanted to join the Police but was 2 inches too short :-S :-S.I did find the discipline of having to study and be told what to do quite hard for a while. But stuck it out and was proud of myself that I had finally achieved something :-D,and as I have said before I loved Nursing.

Oh Fiona.I'm sorry that your poor head had flared up again :-(.You did say the other week that your tablets had gone up again.Lets hope it is just a blip and doesn't last too long this time.

Ann thanks for the pics. Those Icicles looked very pretty on the cottage, and your little plant looked like it was saying 'Get me out of here' from under the snow lol
It always amazes me how the plants manage to survive in this dreadful weather.

Chris only has 2 days left as a Partner (Yikes). He will then be just a GP at the practice with no more 'control'.April he will do 3 mornings a week, and then until September so many sessions a week.( I can't remember what exactly). He said he has the feeling that the end of term has finished and has nothing work wise to prepare for.He will just do surgeries and come home !!.Things are going to feel weird I can tell you
:-| :-|

Mel have you got those specs sorted now from slipping?I need to get mine adjusted again.Maybe it's the shape of our noses at to why they slip lol.I must make an appointment to get my Prescription Sunny's made up.Not that I will be in a hurry for them with this weather.I am getting used to my Varifocals now
I was just reading the little instruction leaflet and this made me laugh.
Point with your nose !!!!!.I thought that made me feel like a Pointer Dog lolol
Move your head ,NOT your eyes.So I have felt a bit like a robot by just staring straight ahead and trying not to move them whilst slowly moving my head side to side.....It does work :-D so hopefully in a week or two I will just be Natural Varifocal wearer :-D :-D

Pork Steaks tonight with Charlottes .and my tray bake full of peppers, courgettes, red onion ,mushrooms and Leeks. Not forgetting my favourite herb Thyme :-D

Evening everyone,

We have had sun today but it's been really cold with the wind , it seems to go right through you !!

Hubby has been to the doctors today he's still feeling dizzy at times and hasn't been to work , we know now that he has Vertigo , the doctor gave him some tablets so we hope that they work !!

Goodness David you have made a mess of your leg , you won't be up and about for a while :-( i suppose the next step will be on crutches !!

Fiona ,sorry to hear your poorly again ,hope your soon feeling better .

Ann, thanks for the photo's of the pretty little cottage with all the icicles , your plant is giving you a little colour in the garden , you wonder how they manage to flower with the frost and snow !!

Yes Frank got your e mails, seemed strange not having them come through for a few days , you usually keep us amused with them :-D

William , i'am sure we will all be thinking of you and Carmel tomorrow as you say your goodbyes , a sad time for you both <3 safe journey <3

Afternoon All,

What a bitterly cold wind!! I went up the village this morning and just walked up past the pub to take a few pics and the wind made my face ache in minutes! I've emailed the pics which were of the pretty icicles on a couple of cottages.

Frank, I always spend more than intended when I go anywhere like that!! lol Ros will understand! :-D I was hoping the chinese would be there with their stalls again as they sell some lovely crystal beads......but they weren't there this time. I got some needles, wire, crackle beads, pearls, other beads including some velvety ones, little flower ones and some gold coloured fasteners......no freebies though and I had a good look at the Jewe*lerymaker stand! Now I just have to squirrel it away somewhere!

David, you must have wrecked your poor leg to need all that doing. I hope someone found you quickly after the fall as I shouldn't think you were able to get to your feet after it. You don't do things by halves do you!!

Hope you soon improve Fiona. You said there would be flare ups so I suppose it's to be expected. Hopefully there may be less of them as time goes by.

Yes the dry heat is certainly more comfortable Kim! How nice you have a home for your old car......it's kind of staying in the family too which is nice!

Mel it sounds like your new specs might need the pads on the bridge adjusting that sit on your nose. That might help stop them slip down as well.

We stayed in for lunch today and had a nice warming pork chop casserole with onions, garlic, ginger, parsnip, swede, carrot, peas together with green broccoli for me and potatoes for OH . Oh and toasted teacake to follow being as it's cold!!

Jane

Jane Report 25 Mar 2013 18:48

I feel a little bit like that with these specs at times lol

Chris is home .He said he had done his last on call duty !

Here I am after getting all the shopping away.

When I got to the opticians they had'nt got my new frames in so that was nearly a wasted journey and parking money but they did adjust the specs I have been wearing and they are better now. not slipping down my nose all the time now. They closed the a bit across the nose bit and made the right side tighter behind my ear. Now I have to get used to looking through the right bit again and felt a bit strange looking at the things in the shop but I am getting there.

Still bl**dy cold here but the wind has dropped a bit. Still ice on the bird bath tonight when I shut the chickens in though. I oinked it out and threw in on the road so it smashed....lovely :-D
