I'm here. !!!

Good morning all/Evening Kim.

By gum that wind is enought to blow your head off. No snow, but that wind has blown the bins over that were collected earlier. I will have to get them in soon. "The sky is blue with white fluffy clouds in a cluster hanging on the breeze to dry"

Mandy, Were you thinking of POTTER HIGHAM where the boats get stuck under the bridge. I have been on broads holidays on the boats, and have been under it many times.

My Eldest brother (long departed) went with my twin sister and family on a holiday on the broards. Being an ex Salior, he thought hye knew everything, till he meet P.H. bridge. He forgot to lower the wind shield, and had it smashed on on bridge. I would loved to have been there :-D :-D

We won't be going far today. I have got Steak and Kidney out of the freezer for a S & K pie tonight, creamy mash and veg. I will be as happy as the pig in S### after that.

As a 13 year old, I took up square dancing at the local youth centre, It was all a lot of FUN to most of us, dashing here and there, swirling round and round. It didn't last long, but I did learn the Gay Gordens, and some reels.

Thanks Mel, I am dancing around in my head to that tune now !!! Another one I remember was from being evacuated. I don't remember the actual title, but had the words "THERE'S A BOY OVER THERE AND HE WINKS HIS EYE, HE THINKS I LOVE HIM, BUT HE'S TELLING A LIE" I use to stand under the railway arch with my two sisters and sing it, rarther tham go home from school, to the old DRAGON and her DAUGHTER.

I going off on one again, so I had better go. See you later.

Fiona her day will come. Just wait till Sophia is older and it is said to her!!

Just think of them as time lines and all the good things that went on during those years. Your memories are in your face!

Afternoon All,

Well, we've had blizzards here this morning and afternoon. It was awful just getting to the car to go for lunch!! Typical it stopped while we were there and started again just as we were leaving! :- :-| They've refurbished the place we went to and it is a bistro now. The food was delish, we had the goat's cheese bruschetta with an onion dressing for starters, then ham hock on a bed of mash with crispy parsnip curls, with an apple and calvados sauce and an assortment of veg. Finished with me, a rasberry and mascarpone cheesecake and OH a bread and butter pudding with rum and raisin ice cream. I'm really full now, not used to eating much potato or bread and OH has gone for a lie down!! It's sunny and dry again now.

Mandy I loved my first fountain pen. It was an emerald green Os*iroid pen with a marbled finish. Up till then we had to use those school pens......like a wooden pencil with a scratchy nib at the end. And so good to have bottle ink, Q*ink instead of the watery powdered stuff the ink monitor topped our inkwells up with. It was never the same colour twice!! We had to have italic nibs and do italic writing too holding the nib at a 45% slant. I still have a few old exercise books I wrote in with my fountain pen. My parents writing, in contrast, was full of loops and I remember thinking it was odd that they always used biros. We weren't allowed to use biros at all at school. OH has a lovely fountain pen I bought him years ago. It's big and maroon in colour and he used to use it for signing some documents at work.

Oh Ann i should think you are full after that lovely lunch :-)

I was looking a the pens when i went shopping ,i only want an every day run of the mill pen i can write my shopping lists and what have you with ....what a price some of them are ,and then there's roller ball, gel and all sorts ,plumped for the standard B*c in the end .

Snowing again here ,that wind cuts you in half ,i think hubby will be frozen when he gets in tonight ,he will be straight in the shower to warm up i think .

Frank, no it was Wroxham bridge i was thinking about , but Potter Higham is another as you say where they get stuck.
I wonder how many hire boats go back with broken shield's !!

Smoked Haddock for us tonight , it's always a problem to know what to have with Smoked haddock as a main meal ,i've done a macaroni cheese ,don't know what hubby will say but he can like it or lump it !!

How are the new glasses Mel ?

Frank Report 11 Mar 2013 17:02

I've never known a day like it" Do you remember that advert. The bloke in a boat going to the pub on the Island ???

We had blizzards here all afternoon. If you had gone outside you would have ended up at the bottom of the close. It blew our olive trees over, and they are in BIG pots. I put a bucket of water in each of them, to weigh them down.

Conrad said that driving home from us last night was terrible, Black Ice everywhere. one driver in front of him was slidding all over the road. He thought he was drunk, until he hit the patch and slid all over the place himself. Rockingham Hill (Jane will know it also Ann) was like a skating rink, no gritting had taken place. He was glad to get home. They had about two inches of snow this morning in Rutland.

Mel, I didn't think you liked shopping !!! but there you are going TWICE !! :-D :-D :-D

Don't talk to me about pens. When I worked in the Motor Trade. every car that came direct from Rover Management cars had a pen in the service pack. I never left them in there, so always had a constant suppy of pens. If I said we have over 100 pens in the house I wouldn't be exagerating. I must have 30 sitting in two pots on mt computer desk. most are slimline retractable type. and seem to go on forever.

Mandy, I never thought about Wroxham bridge being an hazzard to SHIPPING. I always refered Wroxham as ROY'S TOWN. :-D :-D There wasn't a type of shop they didn't own.
That was where the BURE COURT HOTEL was. Over the bridge from Norwich and turn right down a back road adjacent to the river. I could take you there without any trouble. It was along that back road where I borrowed a Rowing boat, to go night fishing in Wroxham Broad.

Hope everyone is still in one piece, and not beed blown over in this wind.

Jane Report 11 Mar 2013 17:38

Ann,that sounded a smashing Meal.Good job you managed to get there though (with snow) .We have had some snow (horizontal) but it's just got blown away.I can't believe this wind.

Why do Men always go for a lie down after a big meal and not the women??.I might have a lie on the settee but never to bed.

I loved my fountain pens .I think my first one was an Osmir**d too,but can't think of the colour. It might have been blue.I must have wasted so much ink making patterns on the blotting paper lol.Loved the smell of Quink. We have a bottle in the study.Chris has a thing about fountain pens even though I haven't seem him use one for a long time.In fact he has a thing about pens in general.I might just go and have a look in his desk and see how many he has.

OK I counted 13 fountain pens( I think he might have got rid of some )These are lovely ones .I couldn't be bothered to do the Ball points(too many).

Mandy how about Kedgeree???I'll come for dinner if you do that :-D :-D

Jane Report 11 Mar 2013 18:36

Janice rang earlier for a natter. She told me that poor Finn is feeling so bad because he killed his hamster :-( :-( :-(..Not on purpose though. The Hamster was in it's rolling ball, but instead of letting the hamster roll itself Finn rolled it along at high speed :-S :-S
I think it was on it's last legs anyway .But it must have been like being in a spin dryer.
They had to have a funeral and burial and put a red rose on top .He loved his Hamster :-( :-(.....At least now he will realise that little creatures like hamsters have to be treated gently. It's rather sad though as they are a big animal loving family.

I see 5 people have died in Norfolk, possibly the result of the horrendous weather.
I think we have got away very lightly today with everything except the wind. There was just a big blustery blizzard bit just now, but just for a few minutes.

Mel have you got your new specs now? I get mine on Thursday and mine are also a mauve colour.(must be a popular colour)

Pasta and sauce tonight(I have had enough meat ) ,but tomorrow will be the remains of the Beef from yesterday with mash and whatever veg.

Frank I'm surprised that Rockingham Hill wasn't gritted......we know what that gets like
:-S :-S....You got caught there last time with the snow didn't you.

Ann you are right. We haven't heard from David for ages .I hope he is OK .

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 11 Mar 2013 19:08

Oh yes Frank, i know the Hotel you are talking now .....we went in there a few years ago for afternoon tea ,i suppose that one replaced the thatched one that burnt down
If you walk round the back of that hotel over the car park you get to the little tea shop with seats by the water.
As for Roy's your right they are still there ,two huge buildings both sides of the road now with a McDon*lds in the supermarket building .
It was in the DIY Roy's that we lost son one day ,i thought he was with hubby and he thought he was with me !! it wasn't until they called out over the tannoy that we realised he wasn't with us !! :-S :-D

Did you catch any thing on the night fishing trip ?

Well the Haddock was quite nice i only had a little bit , but it don't half stink the kitchen out !! :-D
I've never cooked Kedgeree Jane, might give that a go , the Macaroni Cheese was nice ,all crunchy on the top with the grated cheese all bubbly and brown .

Two of those killed at the week end came from the town , i haven't hear who they are yet ,mother and daughter they said .

Here I am and wearing my new glasses but not happy with them as everything looks strange through them. I am having to move my head a lot to get them in focus and they keep slipping down my nose if I bend over so I am forever pushing them back up. I shall have to drop in again next week and see if they can do something with them.

My keyboard looks nearer to me too and the pc screen looks taller on the left than the right.

I AM TRYING.......................................... :-| :-| :-| :-| :-|

We have had snow here today on and off and when I went shopping oh told me to come home straight away if it got heavy (the snow). While I was in Morr*sons it snowed and when I came out it was also snowing. As Jane said horizontal. It was'nt settling though. Just outside Bideford there was no snow at all till I got home ad unloaded the car and oh went out to help some new ringers and it started agan. There is a small covering on the ground now. Mostly on the road.

I will try again ...I'm having such trouble getting on here ..it's driving me potty now
Mel did they not fit your new specs to make sure they didn't slip down??
I will be doing the wavy head thing on Thursday and no doubt getting dizzy :-S

Chris has just got in......He has had a bad day.One of his last patients was a 23 year old with 3 children under 4 and a baby of 14 weeks. All children (at risk),and 3 running riot.Chris had to grab one child to stop it falling off a worktop .Mother had a go at Chris to tell him not to man handle her child!!!!!!........Needless to say Chris is now chilling with a little glass of wine and having a breather before we eat.(I think he is just a tad stressed lololol)
Looks like we will be eating at 9 :-S :-S

Frank Report 11 Mar 2013 20:32

Well PIGGY is full !!!

The S & K pie was smashing, Ros had a quarter and I had the rest. Eyes bigger than my belly, couldn't quite finish it all.

Jane I can just imagine the hamster. I bet he thought he was going into space. Poor little thing. Will they replace it ??? No it was Uppinham hill we got stuck last time, I would have thought the Rocky hill would have been treated.

Mandy, I use to fish in the mouth of Wroxham Broad. I would catch so many fish we would have TWO keep nets one either side of the boat. Would think we caught abour 200 lb of BREAM and Roach on a good night session The broards were great in the 50s very clean and full of fish. That hotel, I have a photo of me sitting on the lawn fishing. I took a photo of a Robin sitting on my ROD (fishing)!!!
I almost moved to Norwich when I came out of the RAF. But work was scarce. There was Norwich Union and Colemans as the main em ployers, and I had been use to City life (LONDON) so went back to it.

Wind still blowing well here. I'm glad I haven't got to go out. I am sitting here with T shirt and shorts. Boiler working overtime to keep the bungalow HOT, for ROS.

Yes I wonder where David has got too, William did show yesterday for a bit. I have seen Shirl on FB. she is a cheeky old thing, you know !!! I can see I will have to take her in hand, better be carefull she might like it. :-D :-D :-D Are you watching you little minx lol lol.

Mel, New glass's are a devil to get on with. are theses your first bi-focals ??? Mine took a few days to get use to.

Anne Report 11 Mar 2013 21:57

When I saw the postings about the Norfolk Broads, this brought back special childhood memories for me. We use to hire one of the boats from a company named Collins "maid of Mist" was one of them. One year we hired a boat and on the first night, it was a lovely evening and we were on deck, my young brother had gone to bed in his cabin with a drink. when he called down to say there was water on the floor Mum thought he had spilled it but on investigating he was up to his ankles in water, so it was abandon "ship" and phone the boatyard. We were put up in an inn at Beccles for the night and it turned out the bilge pump had been fitted the wrong way round so instead of pumping water out ot was pumping the river back in. Being young it seemed quite scary and we were lucky that we hadn't all gone to bed,

Folks, I don't want to put a damper on the thread, but we received sad news this morning. Carmel's daughter (my step-daughter) called here first thing this morning to say Carmel's youngest son Jimmy (52) was in Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, seriously ill. She left here to make her way there. Later we heard that he passed away at 2.20pm. He leaves a wife and two daughters. Sadly, both daughters are expectant Mum's so he will never meet his grandchildren.

So if I don't make any posts for a while, please forgive me. I will look in and see how you are all doing.

Morning All and Evening Kim,

Blimmin cold. It snowed most of last night but only lightly and with the wind none of it settled. It looks very very cold if you look out the window at the earth in the chicken run because it is a very light colour.

The ground is solid. Talk about in the bleak mid winter and all that. Earth was like a stone....................well thats we we have!!!!!
