Jane - Exeter, the jewel of the Westcountry, is still doing fine despite the recent flooding & all the ladies enjoy visiting the new JL store.

Jane Report 7 Mar 2013 21:56

Dermot ...I have to differ on the Jewel of the West Country...'tiz Plymouth :-D :-D
But I,m glad the ladies of Exeter are happy with the new store :-D :-D
Even though I grew up and lived in Plymouth for 30 plus years I only went to Exeter a couple of times.I think I went once with an Antique Doll to some Auction House to get a valuation.
I haven't been back down to Devon now for a few years...I miss it so much.Just the sea and the Moors.I have so many happy memories of my lovely Devon.Don't get me going.I'll start getting emotional ...Devon is Home.....and I don't live there any more
:-( :-(

Glad your Hubby felt a little better by the time he flew back Fiona. OH would really sympathise with him. It is one of the disadvantages of a job with lots of travel. I bet he will want his bed when he gets home.

Sorry, I should have put TATT not TAT......doctor's shorthand for 'tired all the time'!! Well it was when I was at work anyway. We had a little book of abbreviations URTI, RTA that sort of thing.

Mandy, I think I might try the hand signals with OH.....!!!! :-D He suffers from deafness when I shout him. lol

Ah yes, table manners.......don't speak with your mouth full or chew with your mouth open, don't put your knife in your mouth. Don't fidget!! My friend was never allowed to leave the table till everyone had finished, thank goodness I could!! :-D. I can remember visiting my grandparents when I was little and seeing grandad slurping tea from his saucer. I remember at that young age thinking I didn't fancy that and that mum wouldn't like it!!!

Just going to let the chickens out.

Fiona Report 8 Mar 2013 09:22

Morning All Evening Kim,

Morning Jane,
OH got the time of his arrival wrong by an hour and arrived home last night at 10.30 instead of 9.30, he was very tired but said his stomach was feeling better, and he was longing to sleep in his own bed,
he was ok this morning , I think he is run down as he seems to be coming down with a cold, coughing a lot especially after speaking on the phone , good job he is working from home.

Daughter no2 coming down this morning for a large tin of VAN*SH carpet cleaner, Kiah came in the middle of the night and they sent her back to bed and the minute they came down this morning whoops!!!! a puddle on the floor, :-0.
That will teach them a lesson make sure she goes out before bedtime or if she comes in the middle of the night again check to see if she needs to go out,

Must phone the doctors to see if my prescription is ready to pick up, gas man coming between 10 & 12.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Mar 2013 09:37

O poor Kiah she did try to ask. You have to remember if a dog has been in kennels they do that sometimes. I know when we had Tessy for mum from the Blue Cross she did that too a couple of nights.

Good you r oh is back home safe and sound Fiona and feeling a bit better. Like I said before nothing like your own bed when you feel under the weather.

Wonder where that expession came from?

Collected the eggs this morning and they had still managed to break two. I think I have an egg eater in the midst. There is always one who dos'nt rush to the food and i SUSPECT SHE IS THE CAUSE. iF ANY OF THE OTHERS SEE A BROKEN EGG THEY WILL EAT IT TO.

Sorry hit the cap lock..

Dermot are you in Exeter??????? now.

By the way I always had to say "May I please leave the table"?

We always had a tablecloth too but ate in the kitchen when I was young. We lived with nan and grandad.

If nan had one of her sisters to tea it was always salad and ham all set out on different plates and dishes on the table and a trifle for dessert (afters). Nan's front room was called the billiard room because they had a half sized billiard table in there. I think it was half size but was big enough for nan and grandad to sleep under during the war. Grandad used to say that because it had a slate bed it was safer under there. It had a lot of chairs that went round it and they all had red leather seats.

Just thought of something!!

Manners, pianers, thropney bits and tanners.

Grandad used to say that if you burped and I tried to type it how it was said.

Fiona

Fiona Report 8 Mar 2013 11:05

Mum had 2 sayings when I was little and I burped,

Excuse me please for being so rude it was not me it was my food. it just came up to say hello and then it went back down below.

I beg your pardon Mrs Harding there's a kitten in your garden

Kiah not in the good books(there's another saying) no wagging tail today when visiting but perked up a bit when I patted her and then she was ready to get going again.

Wet and miserable today cold as well

Jane

Jane Report 8 Mar 2013 11:26

If I asked to leave the table ,my Dad would say "Why,were you thinking of taking it "?
I would say "May I get down "

I haven't heard that little saying before Mel.

Oh dear Fiona.....I think it would be a good idea for your daughter to get a spray Vanis* to keep at hand.I am never without one.Now it is not for accidents but just muddy paws.I don't think they will ignore Kiah again at night lolol.Poor doggie must have had her legs crossed all night.

Frank. That's great you are getting there.A bit better each day and you'll soon be back on top form :-D :-D

Right I need a coffee :-D

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Mar 2013 11:51

Suns come out here and there is no wind and very warm. Sorry for those of you who have it cold. It makes a change for us to have sun and warmth when you have been saying it's been sunny where you are.

Fiona I too remember something like yours.

Pardon me for being rude,
It was not me but was my food.

Never heard the second bit of that one though.

The other one that I knew was like yours too but a bit different.

Pardon Mrs Harden there's a doggy in your garden.

Still like Manners, pianas threpney bits and tanners.

I have two big tins of Van*sh Jane , great when Sofia has been on a Sunday and she has let peas or other veg slip of her plate at dinner time , my dinning room chairs are cream,
I know for certain I won't get that tin of carpet cleaner back from daughter
Also it's not my first tin I have had to give away, Daughter no 1 phoned me up one day and said mum can you bring the carpet cleaner with you when you come Sofia has been sick and I can't get the smell off the carpet. :-| :-|

Change the subject :-)

OH was on the phone talking to one of the men who had been with him in Madrid. the man had rang to see how OH was and said that he himself and felt ill but had not been sick , turns out that the meal they all had included prawns, OH had had 2 prawns, this other man had just had 1 prawn , so we now know it must have been THE PRAWNS :-0 :-|, not the first time OH has been ill with shell fish , I told him he should leave the DAM!!(sorry annoyed) shell fish alone.

Oh has cut down a huge tree down on the edge of what we call our little wood. If he cuts down any more I shan't have a little wood.

I liked that answer from your dad Jane about leaving the table. When I'm at eldest daughters and we have Sunday dinner the children always thank dad for the dinner and may they leave. Manners cost nothing.

When I was young we lived in a fairly big Victorian house, all little rooms and long corridors, I remember the front room was only ever used when we had visitors.

It could still have been a tumnmy bug Fiona, there has been so much going around this winter, daughter has now lost her voice hope I didn't pass anything on to her, really difficult with two little ones, but I expect Harry is making the most of it ;-)

Poor little Jake Mandy, tonsilitis is one of those things if you get it once you then seem to be prone to it. Years ago the motto was ....... if in doubt take it out ....... they don't do that anymore do they.

I tap my foot for Alfie too when I drop some food, he loves cheese no wonder he's starting to look like a fat little ball.

What's a bead loom Ann?

Am off out this evening for a meal to celebrate friends birthday, I'll try not to eat too much ;-)

'Clothes and manners do not make the man; but when he is made, they greatly improve his appearance'. (Arthur Ashe).

It is generally agreed that some of us - excluding everyone on this thread - are not displaying good manners & correct etiquette as expected of a modern well educated population. Are we now accepting the East Enders' brand of behaviour instead of those witnessed in the dining room of Downton Abbey?

Manners mean being polite & kind to one another; making conversation with those we know & respecting them in the way we would like to be treated ourselves - just like all on this thread. Manners are important for the young & mature citizens alike. Without manners, society would be socially upsetting.

Happily, nobody on this thread have yet descended to that lower base of human coexistence. But I reserve my judgement on a few other threads of my acquaintance.
