Wouldn't you know it, now I've got the time the weather is awful so garden will have to wait.

Hi Dermot, at the same time every Friday evening out would come the bottle of cod liver oil and the big brown jar of malt.

Hi Frank, good to see you are popping in, love the e.mails.

You can't be too careful these days Fiona, there are some really weird people lurking about

And why not Jane, we have all got to a certain age where we can more or less please ourselves, although I still feel guilty watching daytime TV

William Report 7 Mar 2013 14:57

I'll have another try and hope I don't lose this lot!!!

H A P P Y :-D B I R T H D A Y :-D S H I R L E Y

Sorry I haven't done any posts but I did read through them yesterday and caught up on all Franks emails. Some excellent ones there, and the WWII one caught my eye, especially showing the V I & V II rockets. I remember the VI Doodlebugs, we would watch or listen to them from beside our Anderson shelter and dive in as soon as the motor stopped. Then it was listen for the 'BOOM' and wonder who had 'got it'.

Still sniffling and coughing but yesterday I was so bad Carmel called the doctor in. I'd been awake since 4am coughing my insides up. He said it was a viral infection and put me on antibiotics which are just starting to kick in.

A warm welcome to Dermot and his words about Ireland reminded me of some of the things Carmel has told me about, although she never knew about the Magdallen Laundries. Being born in Dublin in 1932, her mother died at the age of 32, Carmel was only 6 and a half at the time. and had a younger brother. It so affected Carmel that she got St Vitus Dance and was kept off school for 18 months because her condition was so bad. She went to a Convent school and her brother was taught by the Christian Brothers. There was never any incidents in their young lives either. For ' bad boys' there was always the threat of being sent to Artane, a church run institution for the not so good.
When her mother died, her widowed aunt moved in with her young family to help run the joint family. Carmel's Dad drove the buses so at least had a steady job. The property was a two bedroomed council house so to say it was pretty crowded, sleeping top to tail, is putting it mildly, but they coped.
That is, until Carmel's Dad remarried, then of course aunty had to be moved out, not a popular move there. Carmel's step-mother wasn't a prospect for the better for her and her brother, and was made worse when s-m had 3 more children of her own.
But for all this, Carmel has turned out a lovely person and certainly as bright as a button. Her brother went on to do well also and had a large family.
There's a lot more to the story but all's well that ends well as the story goes, so I hope I didn't bore anyone sharing that with you.
I think maybe Dermot will identify with a lot of it.

A bit wet here today and it doesn't seem to want to dry up. Just seen the midday weather forecast and it looks like worse to come.

Isn't that just awful news about that lovely young school girl getting stabbed to death on the bus in Birmingham this morning. Looks like they have someone for it, but what a shock to all her family and all her schoolmates. Terrible, senseless, you can't even ride on a public bus safely, what's the country coming to?

Hi All

That's awful news William, that poor girl ,her family will be devastated,

Been in town most of the day , had a quick check up at the dentist then bumped into an old nursery friend ,haven't seen her for ages, she didn't even know that I had been ill ,we went for Coffee :-D :-D again that's 2 days in a row.
then met daughter no2 she finished work at 1, she says lets go for lunch :-D MOTHER PAID AS YOU USUALLY DO :-D then went for a shop around, ended up buying a new blouse,

I had just got in and put the kettle on when OH phoned from Madrid airport where he has been since 11.am this morning, his flight will have left 15 mins ago.
He could not stay at work today as seemingly last night when he went to bed , he had terrible stomach pains and spent all night rushing to the loo and didn't get any rest till 3am this morning, he then phoned someone from work to come and collect him he then sat down at his desk and he had to rush again and was sick twice, so he left the work and went to the airport where he has sat all day and dozed

:-| :-| FOOD POISONING, :-| :-| everyone else in the group was fine :-S :-S

he will be shattered when he gets home about 9.30 tonight

I hope you are enjoying your day and have had some nice gifts. :-D

Hi Kim, you got through the sleep clinic then.......pity about the reaction you had. Hopefully it will settle down in a few days. I had a reaction to the antiseptic wipes the hospital used once. I don't let them near me with them now!!

William, that sounds a nasty cough you have. Hopefully it will start to clear now with the meds. It seems to have been a bad winter for coughs and colds and tummy bugs.

I seem to be tired every day just lately, would be 'TAT' on my doctor's notes. I'm hoping it is just the dosing on my thyroid tablets needing another tweak upwards, but my next blood test isn't till May. I seem to run out of steam quickly, or maybe it is my AGE like Frank would say.

That poor man Mel, just collapsing and dieing like that and at such a young age. What a shock for his family and friends. I wonder if the shop will be kept on. A similar thing happened to the man who ran our chippie in the village years ago. He'd just got back from seeing his doctor, lifted his car bonnet up and collapsed. Thanks for trying to send me the pics.

I had a wardrobe sort out yesterday and took some stuff to the dog's home this morning so I had a mooch around their charity shop. They do get some good stuff in there, a lady was buying a lovely cream leather fitted biker jacket. I found a bead loom, unused as the packets inside were sealed and got it for £1.50. They are about £15 new full price so I was pleased with that. Now I just have to learn to use it!! :-S

OH is out clerking again and won't be back till late so I shall see if I can finish my 'homework' from last week's class.

Jane Report 7 Mar 2013 17:19

Crumbs Fiona he is brave to travel with a tummy like that.I would be worried I'd be up and down the Isle of the plane to the loo the whole time. He'll be like a limp rag by this evening.Poor man :-( I hope he had plenty of Immodi** :-D

We have decided why Chester looks half baked at times.........he's blooming DEAF (or at least pretty deaf :-(.It will explain why he behaves the way he does sometimes.I think his eyesight is going a bit too now :-S :-S oh dear :-(

It is raining quite hard and is misty and quite horrible. The Pidgeons are daft.Still thinking of nooky in this rain lol. They must be exhausted as the rituals have been going on all day !!

Hope you having a nice Birthday Shirl.

Has Pat been missing?Or have I just missed some posts?I wonder how the dogs are getting on :-D

Has Hogwart been back on the scales again yet Mel??

William I did hear about that poor young girl being killed on the bus.I haven't seen any details yet but how dreadful and shocking.I take it she was on her way to school?I just hope they have got whoever had done this.

4 in a bed on now.I do like it but some of these people are so far up their own backsides.I wouldn't want to stay in their B&Bs

Fiona, your poor hubby having to travel home on a plane with a tummy bug, i bet he will be glad to get home .

Jake has been home from school all week ,DIL took him to the doctors this afternoon ,he has Tonsillitis and a Virus poor little boy ,when he came yesterday i thought he seemed brighter although he hardly ate any thing at tea time.
He now has some Penicillin to take so that should help .

Poor old Chester , getting deaf , could you start doing a few hand signs with certain words then if his hearing does go at least you could make him understand you a little.

I don't know why but i keep thinking today is Friday !!!

Jane

Jane Report 7 Mar 2013 18:34

Mandy .Was it Jake who had the Tonsillitis a few weeks back?I think it was.It might come to having the blighters out at some point.I wish James had had his out years before he did as he missed so much school.I think he was about 16 when they were removed.

Ann ,what does TAT stand for? You got a great bargain today didn't you :-D :-D.Is there a chance you could get your blood tested again if you are concerned?

Mandy Chester does recognise a few hand signs....like pointing to his bed lol or if I point at the kitchen floor when I've dropped some food.I also tap my foot by the bit of food so he homes in on it then.I can see him just gradually going downhill now and am dreading when 'that time' comes.
I haven't a clue what day it is at the moment either as Chris has been off this week.
It's Friday tomorrow :-D :-D :-D

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 7 Mar 2013 19:10

Jake had a virus just before i was poorly a few weeks ago , he seems to be the one of the family who gets any thing that's going .

I tap my foot for Toby if i drop any thing too, i look at him and wonder what i'll do when 'that time' comes ,he's getting really stiff in his old back legs and spends a lot of time asleep now ,son keeps saying mum you should get another dog now, then when the time does come it won't be so hard with another dog already in the house , but i carn't do that to Toby , having a young dog here would really put his nose out of joint and tire him .

Hubby just looked outside and it's trying to rain , looks like tomorrow will be a wet one.

Fiona

Fiona Report 7 Mar 2013 19:34

OH managed to text before he got on the plane- WE ARE SCHEDULED TO LEAVE ON TIME, I AM FEELING BETTER,JUST VERY TIRED ,WILL SLEEP ON PLANE.

Thank goodness for that, He has had nothing to eat all day just drank water, he must have been bad not to want a cup of tea . I wonder if it is this virus that's going around at the moment, and nothing to do with food, isn't the queen in hospital with stomach problems.

We have a visit from the gas man tomorrow he is coming to check the boiler, gas fire and cooker, I need to go and empty the airing cupboard, our boiler is in there, and that's where I keep the bathroom towels etc, :-| :-| not suppose to have anything near the boiler,

Kiah is settling in fine, eating normally and daughter no2 told me that the dog never came into the bedroom at all , slept all night in her bed :-D :-D

I am glad I am not the only one who dos'nt know what day it is!!

They have a 22 year old for the killing of that girl on the bus this morning.

Jane I took TAT for this and that??

Fiona you know what it's like when you don't feel well, the only place to be is at home. I bet he can't wait to get there. I hope he is better soon.

Chilli tonight and it's nearly ready.

I was going to cook a cake today but never got round toit.

Jane

Jane Report 7 Mar 2013 19:56

Mandy people keep saying to me to get another dog.I can't ,just like you.Although I know people who have and it has given the old ones a second lease of life.I don't see Chester being too impressed to have an intruder lol.He will be 15 in July,so is a real old man now.
Poor Jake .I hope he soon gets over this latest bout.

I don't feel hungry tonight. But have cooked Southern Fried Chicken ,Parmentier Potatoes and just about to do a bag of Curly Kale for Chris.I think I will just have the bit of Chicken.I did have scrambled egg on toast at lunch time so dtill feel a bit full.

When I think of the time we eat which is always late it makes me remember my childhood days.I think tea (as we called it then) was at 5 o'clock. It was all ready when Dad got in from work. The table was always set properly with Napkins in rings.
Silver (not real siver) with the crests of places.Mine was Greenock.Dad's was Glasgow,Mum's Bideford and I can't remember the one on my Sisters. It might have been Exeter.I wonder what ever happened to them. There are so many things like that ,that have just vanished, and I think that is so sad. :-(

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 7 Mar 2013 20:25

Well i know if we got another dog it would finished Toby off, just going round behind the little ones in case he misses out on something tires him out .

I don't remember having napkins but a table cloth was always on the table and when tea was over the cloth was always shaken outside to get rid of any crumbs then folded up and put in the side board draw along with the place mats , we never had any meals on our laps like some people do today ,meals were always up the table and i'am sure when my nanny was there we even said grace.

Jane

Jane Report 7 Mar 2013 20:46

Oh I forgot about the Table Cloth and Grace Mandy.....For what we are about to receive, may the Lord make us very grateful :-D :-D
I only have a tablecloth at Christmas and shake the crumbs outside too just like the old days :-D
We were talking about table manners last night. No elbows on the table and no leaving the table until everyone had finished .It was James who left the table last night :-| :-| which is how the conversation came about........I need to take him back to grass roots and instill those manners again !!!!!....

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 7 Mar 2013 21:01

Hubby was never allowed to talk when at the table, his father had a cane and if you talked the cane came down ,one day he missed with the cane ,hit hubby's mother by mistake ......the cane was snapped in two that day and never replaced .

Hubby said if its wet tomorrow he carn't get on at work ...he might have the day
off :-D
Lunch out i'am thinking :-D :-D
