Yes David they had one of those mantle things in them like in the old gas lamps. Like a little white net bag that glowed when they were lit. You had to pump up the tilley lamps.

Morning Everyone
Mags I always use Palmolive Soap.(The green one).Talking of Spring, there are baby Lambs in the field. They are just so sweet.Their little tails are still long and haven't dropped off yet.
David I have heard of Tilley Lamps but don't know what they look like.
No fog today thank goodness ,but it is dull and grey.I have just got the Brisket and veg on to cook in the slow cooker.Chris won't be home till after 8 tonight so it has plenty of time to cook. I am ready for a coffee now I think.

Morning all
just stopped raining, I remember when I was little and we went on family holidays, we had a caravan which dad used to trail everywhere and the only lighting that it had was the tiny gas mantels that you had to light with a match, I loved the smell when they were first alight.
hopefully my new Family Tree soft ware will come today from Ama*on today. watching for the post man

It is quite cold outside today and nothing like yesterday. I supposed it was too much to expect that we should have two lovely days in a row and now it is clouding over. I have just turned the heating on!

Fiona we had the gas lights in the caravan when I was young. No electric in vans then. Cooker was gas too and sometimes us kids would go along the beach and turn peoples gas off and run away. It usually gave you a little while to run away and hide.

Well i'll try again !! just typed out a whole bit when the computer decided to do some updating !!!!!!
So Afternoon everyone , Dull and chilly here today ,just going to turn the heating back on ,its alright while your working away but as soon as you stop you feel chilly.
The market use to have Tilley Lamps ,wern't they Paraffin ? They now have power point posts were they can plug into ,although they don't use lights as they are all packed away by two o'clock ,not like years ago when they would still be selling at five o'clock !!!
Jane i remember having my hair washed many a time with washing up liquid lol Mum use to use those big bars of Green Palmolive Household soap to rub on Collars and cuffs before they were washed .
We had those Gas Lamps in our caravan , i remember dad having to go outside and turn on the gas and coming in quick to light them before we lost too much gas in the caravan, i remember it use to stink !!!
Right ,got to put the heating on , and its nearly lunch time ,a nice cheese roll today i think .

LA LA DE LA LA, If thats right. Ask who's got a new computer. ????? This old bugge# (NOT ME) has been getting slower and slower. Taken me 3/4 hour to get on here today. Ros went to Tesc# this morning a there was this display model, (NEVER USED) reduced by £50.00 so she bought it. It's a DELL 1545. Conrad will come tomorrow and set it all up for me, then I will be like JACK FLASH . not Flasher JANE !!!!
Have finished my digging this morning, and transfered a load of garden tools and things we don't use very often to the bottom shed, where I kept the chickens stuff. The Garage looks quite empty at the moment.
Had a phone call from Harvey (No. 1 son) last night. he was taken to hospital with appendicitis. They are operating on him today. Ros will go down to see him tonight. Don't know how long they keep them in for now. What do you know Jane ????
Mandy, I see you have an OAPs home close by, you won't have far to travel when the times right. lol lol.
Youy to see you are still with us Mags.
I could just see your face Mel. when Mr Mel said that about the bantams.jumping over the hedge. (MEN)
Not a bad day here now, sun is trying to get through, and it feels a bit warmer. I'm finished for the day outside. So will get my Ebook and have a read in the conservatory.
Hope you are all well.

I remember Vosene shampoo, it had a very strong distinctive smell and lifebuoy soap, it was red and that didn't smell very nice either.
I know how you feel Mandy, son was over the other day with Finley, he is walking now and just tall enough to reach the shelf on the radiator cover, so I was making mad dashes everytime he reached up for a photo frame or vase of flowers, ended up clearing everything and putting it all back when they'd gone. I was exhausted.
Alfie loves the garden, but only if it's warm, he sits in the flower bed with his little nose in the air, sniffing everything.

Good afternoon .
What a lovely day sunny day a bit chilly but spring is here I feel with snowdrops and daffies and my little tree I had given to me to remember my son in law Mat is doing really well. Thank you dear Mel for your advice how to plant it .I did what you said xx
Anne I must apologise to you so sorry. I was confused in the in message dept I had three Annes a Miller Merrott and Nelmes all asking to view my tree I just sent a polite note to those people. You are Miller so goodness knows how you got there. So Sorry. I think my medication is making my mood swings and tiring me out.I think maybe people want to look at my family tree all of a sudden proberly reading my messages thinking I am a nut case. My family tree is very neglected.I found some relatives in Derbyshire related to my grandads brother and they are not on my tree yet. But intend to work on it again shortly.
I remember Tilley lamps David my grandad used to have on in the shed metal on a handle with a mantle very useful and you can still buy them
Jane I hope Hannahs problem comes out ok .Dozens of houses are to let and been made into flats around this area because people cannot sell the house. Michelle did start some kind of information and help line for people who were having housing problems but she was finding it hard going because so many people contacted her
I was touched at your concern everyone about me mowing the grass you were right I only managed half. Puffed out and it was the electric mower.I managed to bag up some grass.
Sorry Mel for going off about the bunnies but that bit of feeding them to ferrets really upset me. I hate those things nearly lost my finger because my boyfriend had one nasty creature. Any ferret lovers sorry my opinion only. Donnie went to a live show of Loose Women with Beryl and got asked to leave the audience for shouting out abuse. When the presenter announced it was time to give information for the competition to win some money all the audience shout out wowie and Donnie shouted out Oh shut up you stupid women. It was two minutes before a bouncer like man came up and asked him to leave and calmed him down with a glass of beer. Beryl was left sitting on her own bless her and getting some very nasty looks.
Yesterday I had another funny time with the doctor. I was using double sided sticky tape to make an Easter card for April asked for a Bunnie card I took off my shoes and sat on the floor with a cushion. I had to go to the doctors and he asked to see my feet for my diabetic problem so I took off my shoes and stuck all over my socks was double sided tape loads of it and glitter .I nearly died. The doctor looked and said my word where have your feet been.I told him what had happened and he said I would keep your shoes on next time or change your socks.
Also last night at 3am in the morning this drunk student phoned up and said to my husband do you deliver beer and my husband who had dug himself from around his quilt half asleep passed the phone to me.I said it is 3am I am in bed with my husband .This person said oh are you bragging or complaining I know your husband he is the that grey haired old git. I told my ho what he said and he grabbed the phone and sounded just like Victor Meldrew in One Foot in the Grave. Dont you call me a gray haired old git you stupid Idiot. Slam down went the phone. Then like it had never happened zonk he was asleep. Today ho was not a bit bothered. Michelle laughed so much when I told her she said I could hear dad bellowing and the phone woke her up because it is a loud bell ho being a bit deaf. it seems this student was having some party and they ran out of beer.but who delivers beer at 3am in the morning what a world we live in.
We had a reduction for tax because we do not sell much stuff now and then get 50 pound added on to our gas bill .I shall have to sell my cards again to make some money.
I hope everyones family is recovered and feeling better not read the threads much today I have to go to the doctors again making sure I am perfectly well dressed lol .i have not had a good year in that dept so fat

Keep forgetting to put the time on.
We are doing well with our new computers, I am really impressed with how fast it works but have found a few problems, went to print something yesterday and that wouldn't work, think I have reinstalled it, there are some programmes I had on the old one missing too.
Thanks for that information Mel, there was quite a lot on there I didn't have.

Yes Maureen, i get tired out when they come round ,roll on the summer when they can go out and play ,it takes forever to put all the toys away , DIL says to the little ones clear the toys up, hubby's says oh don't worry about that we 'll clear them away after you've gone it won't take long !!!!!!!!!!!
Oh Sheila , you do get dressed up for the doctor !!! glitter on your feet LOL

That makes 3 of us with new computers lucky you Frank.
Yes Maureen there is a few things missing of this new computer that were on my old one or they are there and I have not been shown how to find or how to do them, but it's great how fast it works. OH copied the old folders on to the new computer off my old one but I could not open them, so OH then again had to install another program so I could open them !!!!!!!!! postman brought my new family software this morning will have to wait till OH comes home from work before he can install it.
Yes we grans are all in the same boat, I used to have a lovely candle display with stones arranged around 3 church candles on my coffee table , now they sit on a shelf in the back bedroom as I am scared a certain little person will put the pebbles in her mouth. . I try to get to get this little lady to tidy up to. put her bricks away, but after she puts the bricks in the bag. she tips them out again before I get a chance to zip the bag up lol

Hi All
A much better day here today. There has been some watery sunshine and we have not had to turn on the heating. I have been busy with chores and chatting to MIL this morning. Thankfully she is well at the moment and was in good form. She is concerned about the price of petrol for her little car and is wondering if its worth keeping. As she is now 78 she thinks she might give it up when the MOT is due we will have to wait and see. We have booked the accommodation for the weekend and hubby resigned to keeping everyone happy. We might take my car which gets a much better mileage per gallon and that will cut the cost. Sheila Dont worry about the tree request. I have been known to ask the same person twice to view their tree. I laughed and laughed at the thought of your feet. Bet the Doc has seen worse and he will relate that story several times at dinner. Frank Thanks for the milkbottle thing. Son thought it wonderful and hubby was helpless with laughter. On tuesday I went to the greengrocers and bought a large bag of bananas for 50p. I love bargains but this one is proving difficult. There must have been 4lb of nanas in the bag and of course they are all ripening at the same time. I have made banana cake today but still have lots left. Any ideas anyone as I would hate them to end up in the compost. As you may have gathered still no news!!! David We have a tilly lamp in our greenhouse and MIL has a brass one which was presented to FIL after he did some work on the Selby coalfield. I think its very much a coal mining thing. I think you can still buy palmolive soap. I always loved either pears or coal tar. 3.44

what about this one
Banana ice cream
1. Peel 8 ripe bananas, wrap in cling film and freeze overnight. 2. Allow to soften for 20 minutes then put into a food processor and whiz until thick and creamy. Serve immediately or refreeze.

What about this one ,some thing a bit different .
Banana Nut Bread Baked in a jar !!!
prep Time: 10 Min Cook Time: 45 Min Ready In: 1 Hr 5 Min
Servings (Help) US Metric Calculate
Original Recipe Yield 8 (1 pint) jars Ingredients
* 2/3 cup shortening * 2 2/3 cups white sugar * 4 eggs * 2 cups mashed bananas * 2/3 cup water * 3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour * 1/2 teaspoon baking powder * 2 teaspoons baking soda * 1 1/2 teaspoons salt * 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon * 1 teaspoon ground cloves * 2/3 cup chopped pecans
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease insides of 8 (1 pint) straight sided, wide mouth canning jars. 2. In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, bananas, and water. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Add to banana mixture. Stir in nuts. 3. Pour mixture into greased WIDE MOUTH pint jars, filling 1/2 full of batter. Do NOT put lids on jars for baking. Be careful to keep the rims clean, wiping off any batter that gets on the rims. 4. Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 45 minutes. Meanwhile, sterilize the lids and rings in boiling water. 5. As soon as cake is done, remove from oven one at a time, wipe rims of jars and put on lid and ring. Jars will seal as cakes cool. Place the jars on the counter and listen for them to "ping" as they seal. If you miss the "ping", wait until they are completely cool and press on the top of the lid. If it doesn't move at all, it's sealed. 6. Jars should be eaten immediately or kept sealed in refrigerator for up to a week.

I LOVE BANANA AND CUSTARD, but you'd have to eat that straight away, you'll be turning yellow Anne.
Hope it's good news on the sale this time Liz, it does seem to be picking up, I've seen loads of Sold signs around here.
Must Google the weather for tomorrow. Going on a London Walk, it's called Charles Dickens London and the guide dresses up in Victorian clothes.
