Ellen did take driving lessons many years ago but not to test level.

I'm trying to get her to get back on the road as she never knows when she might have need of a car.Her knees are shot and I won't always be there.

Morning All and Evening KIm,

Well wet and windy here today as predicted. Dog show is canceled but they are having tea coffee and cakes in the village hall. I suppose all those had been made ready and they ahve to get rid of them somehow. They make some smashing cakes.

Welcome Brian.

Any more things you remember as we seem to have run out of memories at the moment so perhaps you could jog some for us.

Pat your Harry Worth? can you tell me a little more about him. What was his occupation and do you know his parents names please? Where is he on the two census you found him on.

Morning all,

Not so nice this morning, very windy and chilly with it. Rain promised later.

Welcome to our new posters. !!! We talk about everything now, I think we have covered all childhood memories. But hope you jog the old grey matter ;-) ;-) ;-)

It's now hissing with rain.

David. Elen should try to drive, it will be so handy as she gets older, and not able to travel by public transport. I miss not driving. loss of independance, and always having to ask if I want to go anywhere, which I must say is not very often, and have never been refused.

Pat, Are you off again, Where to this time ???? Poor MOCHA all alone again. !!!!

The pork yesterday was so tastey we are going to have it cold later with salad, and hot fur apple pots.

Harvey's birthday today, Ros phoned him in France. It's still very hot out there. up in the 40s. Julia is the colour of of COAL, and Lewis is very brown also. Harvey stays under the shade, as he can't bear the hot sunshine.

see you later.

Afternoon everyone,

Quite a muggy day here ,sunny first thing but its now clouded over a bit .

Been to the tip first thing and got rid of some garden rubbish and bits from the
shed ,then called in to see son and family and have a coffee, we also went and bought Jake a new bed , we bought the two girls new bunk beds a few weeks ago so thought we had better get Jake a new bed too.

Pat i always think if you just turn up at the kennels and they let you look round then you usually find they are ok, if you have to go back then they might have some thing to hide!!
We are lucky with the one we use as hubby has done some work for them and has been there during the day and has seen how they work .

Will have a look for Harry for you if you give just a little more info :-)

Not doing much today ,just having a lazy one !!

Chicken and Bacon pie for us tonight with veg and cheese sauce .

Hi Wendy, I remember all those things too, and barley sticks and sweet cigarettes. When we were in Lulworh Cove there's a very quaint sweet shop/souvenier shop where they have all the sweets in those big glass jars and they weigh out however much you want and put the sweets in those little paper bags.

I was going to say the same as Jane David, learning to drive is best done when you're young, I drove a lot in my early twenties, but didn't drive at all in my thirties, it was very nerve racking getting back behind the wheel.

I have always been afraid of the dark, when I was little we lived in a Victorian house that had small rooms and long corridors, when it was my bedtime I used to whistle or sing all the way up the stairs. I still won't go into a dark room, have to put my hand round for the light switch first.

Have been to Westfield this morning and took the jacket back. Got a bit carried away in town on Saturday and when I thought about it, £76 (and that was the sale price) for a jacket I shall probably only ever wear once was a bit extravagant. Will look on E.Bay nearer the time.

How's little Lacey doing Mandy. My mum was a stickler for ...... as she put it ...... treating them all the same. So if she bought something for one child all the others had to have the equivalent.

Afternoon All,

Yes, a little more info on Harry Pat.......we are all willing to help if we can! :-)

Thanks for your contributions Wendy and Brian......keep them coming if you can. I remember using that Iz*l toilet paper as tracing paper as a child Wendy. Wasn't it scratchy and didn't really do a good job did it.........the newspaper David mentioned was more 'fift for purpose' I think. My gran always had newspaper squares hanging on a nail in the loo.

David I remember the cinder toffee but not the other things. Ellen musn't be put off learning to drive. Some places give a free trial lesson so maybe she could test the water and how she feels about it like that. Nothing to lose and it could be the way forward to open up a new life for her. It did for my ex SIL who didn't learn till after her hubby died. She wasn't confident at all but got herself a small car she was comfortable with and just pottered locally to the shops etc to build her confidence. My sister has to use a walker now, but can drive her car and it gives her freedom. It is provided from the mobility part of her benefits and all she has to find is petrol. Are you not happy with the Focus?

Jane, I used to try and copy Pans People too!! :-D lol. I loved all those basques and suspenders they wore and used to think they were sexy and suggestive, not so obvious and in your face as some dancers are nowadays.

I remember having those kinds of debates years ago with my friends and used to love it!! It is nice to put the world to rights aided with a few drinks.

Pat it is good you have found a new place for Mocha, you wouldn't have been happy leaving him at the other place again.

Going to download some pics I took on my walk yesterday.....think I might have another entry for the photo competition. ;-)

David Report 27 Aug 2012 15:56

Ann,I'm happy with the Focus in that I have a car but there are better ones.

Ellen's knees are shot and she has limited mobility.
I'm trying to get her through her driving test so that what ever becomes of me she would have transport.
There are schools doing intensive tuition, all day every day for a week, with the driving test booked in at the end.

When she becomes a drive I'm sure she would qualify for motability etc

Evening all ,and a hello to Wendy and Brian.
Hannah has gone back to London now .The 2 of us went shopping this morning .I bought a new pair of shoes for her new job. Then we had a spot of lunch
I couldn't work out why I felt so tired and a bit sicky this afternoon...then I remembered I have been awake since just after 3am :-S.

So I haven't read all posts today.I feel too tired to actually use the pooter lol

I will have an earlyish night and hopefully be a bright as a button in the morning :-D.
I have so much to get done in the next few days before the hols.Chris had set out what clothes he is taking and just brought down a couple of things he needs washing.

Thursday morning we have man or men coming in to strip wall paper remove whichever skirting boards need taking off.Checking how wet things still are and checking my electrical goods to make sure the haven't been affected.
I just can't wait to get away now .The Northumbrian Coast is calling me !!! :-D :-D

Jane

Jane Report 27 Aug 2012 19:00

I'm still here :-D
David It is good that Ellen has has some driving experience before.I wish her well if she tries again.
I will never forget the day my Mum had her first driving lesson from BS*
My Dad had bought an automatic Metro when he was diagnosed with MND so that he could continue driving. He also wanted Mum to think about having lessons ,so that when he was no longer around she wouldn't have to rely on the not too frequent bus
Just a few days after Dad's funeral she had the first lesson. She was a nervous wreck (and only did it because she thought it was what Dad wanted).Well I was watching from an upstairs window ,and the instructor did the talk explaining gears ,clutch ,brake etc.The car suddenly did a couple of Kangaroo Jumps and then shot straight through the gateway and ended up across the other side of the road :-S :-S
She has several lessons ,hated every one of them and then eventually the instructor suggested that she really wasn't cut out for driving.I think the poor man was a gibbering wreck :-S :-S :-S.
The car didn't go to waste though as my Sister was left high and dry by her first OH .Mum gave the car to her and paid for lessons which was just the best thing :-D :-D
