Whilst just letting the dog outside, leaving the doors open for her to get back in, and saying in a child like voice, to hurry up because it was cold, reminded me of something in my childhood.
Whilst only a few years old, and living on a Scottish Isle, my mother told me one day that 'Jack Frost was about'. To which I asked her where. She took me outside and pointed down the road, and on looking I saw a big yellow digger. For many years after, I thought that was what she meant. The Yellow Digger was called Jack Frost, not the cold weather.
Age now ensures that I am only too well aware of who Jack Frost is.

Hi Julia, good to see you back on board :-D.I think Jack Frost was here a few weeks ago.OH had to scrape the windscreen on the car.
Ann ,I am a little too young to remember powdered eggs and dripping.I just remember the awful Virol, and Mil Par.The first to keep me fit and the second to make me go :-S :-S
Even the thought of Mil Par makes me feel sick.Thick white stuff dealt out on a Tablespoon.I think I was a very constipated child :-|.Maybe because I didn't eat my veg lol.
We had a gas cooker on legs.It always frightened the life out of me when Mum lit it.Especially the rings as it always went with a big 'POP' sound.Even now I don't like gas cookers Funny how those memories stick with you.

Another time whne I was small dad used to sing me to sleep sometimes. He would sing carols and things like that at Christmastime. After a while I started to have bad dreams and called for dad. In he came and sat on the side of my bed. Whats the matter he asked and I said I had been dreaming that the Allies were coming to get me.

What are the allies he asked me and where do they come from.

My reply was that he sang to me about Allies calm, Allies bright.

It was the carol Silient Night
Holy Night
All is calm
All is bright
Sleep in heavenly peace,
sleep in heavenly peace.

Allies to me were very bright angels. It's funny what a child thinks and conjers up pictures of what they think these things were....

Hi Everyone, welcome to AnninGlos and Julia. Ann, did you take up BC's challenge then to post to every other thread?

I think threads are bound to evolve but we still put memories on here whenever we recall them. How would we attract new contributors' memories if Mel changed the title?

FIL got out some photo albums when we visited today. They were a record of his wartime travel in France and Germany. OH had never seen them before. One was a photo of a sign in Germany that was in English. It said 'This is the way to Berlin, you are on the right road'. FIL said there were lots of signs like that, no fear of getting lost!! There were photos of buildings that looked like a row of houses that were really Aircraft Hangars and many pics of badly damaged buildings. He said that he was with a mobile unit in the RAF and that they lived in tents and even the aircraft had huge tents as a hangar. The Spitfires were given a letter of the alphabet and he helped look after 2 of them. He said starting the planes was the only time that they could give an Officer an order! He had obviously enjoyed that!!

Julia, I remember looking at iced up windows and being told it was Jack Frost and trying to peer through the frost to look for him. I thought it was a person for quite a while, but then I did believe in Santa to start with as well.

Mel, That was Petula Clark. I remember it well. I always thought my brother was going to marry her even though we didn't know her !!!

Hi AnninGlos. Yes I remember chatting away to you some time ago.
I was talking to my Son yesterday on Skype, about foods we use to eat. None of it was really bad for us. Mum would always have an "H" bone of beeffor Sunday dinner. It was my job to go and get it together with the veg order on Saturday morning. It would go in the oven on gas mark one at 6 am for dinner at 2 pm. God help you if you were late. You always got a bowl of dripping from it We would often have a suet pudding with gravy before dinner to fill you up a bit. Bread and dripping was something else then, nice thick jelly in the bottom. You can only get dripping today in a TUB.

My sister-iin-law, was home on leave from the WRAF during the war nd decided to make us kids scramble egg with egg powder. It had so many lumps of dried egg in it, that it put me off scambled egg for life. :-D :-D

I'm having a right old job, getting this typed. if you go back to alter something it wipes things as you type.

Hope you enjoyed this beautiful day.

Jack Frost was certainly in our garden last year and the top of the cars had ice crystal in fern patterns that stuck up and it looked like the cars had white crew cuts.

My favourite programme is on again. I said to Ros. Roll on Christmas. I will then be able to watch tele on sat/sun evening. I just can't/won't watch the cra# If this is what they call music and entertainment then they can keep it BAH HUMBUG :-D :-D :-D :-D

Just had a tray of prawns with the skins on, will need something else to eat shortly, they didn't fill me up. Oh for a big "NOBBY" and dripping.!!

Mel,old Frank Martin use to sell Whiting for the cats, We would buy it to eat. I love fresh Whitting or come to that any fresh fish. The trouble living where we do. The FISH AIN'T FRESH. They say that the Mackeral you get from Supermarkets are up to 10 weeks old, when you buy it " FRESH."

will watch Celebrity later on, as I am sure we will get a good laugh from Freddie Star. I see in the paper that Shawn from Corrie cries like a baby when his has to jump from the plane. :-0 :-0 :-0 Don't know all of them who's going in. Will see later.

Thats some pudding Mandy. it will be nice cold with a bit of Golden Syrup on it. Yum Yum. I use to love cold suet rolly polly fried and drizzled over with jam or syrup. Has anybody got a good old fashioned receipe for Bread Pudding.?? There's an old lady friend of Martine's (Sat shopping friend of Ros's) Who makes me one now and again. I like it hot with custard, or cold like a cake. I'm talking a lot of food tonight. It's the talk of Bread and Dripping earlier. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Going for a look round Ebay for half an hour. Might see you later, If not Good Night, God Bless.
