Thanks for mentioning that Frank, I just discovered that channel only a few weeks ago and it is addictive!!! It is on in the night too and I flick it on with the sound down when I can't sleep sometimes. I do wish they did more of the demonstrations though!!! I got some beading needles today as we are using thread on the next course. All I need now is new glasses!!!!!!! :-D

I can remember having porridge with golden syrup in.....more like a pudding and I loved it. I would scrape the set dripping and meat juice from the roast tin and have it on toast too. With the cold meat from the joint I used to make meat and gravy sandwiches.......with cold sliced new potatoes on if there were any too.

Something MIL and FIL still have and which mum and dad would have too when I was little was bread and butter with the fruit and cream or trifle. Yuk! yuk! I could never fancy that!!

It's that time again on Saturday .

Ros came home about 7.00pm Starving hungry, so I rand and ordered her a Chinese. which we had to collect. I didn't fancy it, so had Fish and Chips. Massive piece of fish. I could hardly eat it all. Ros finished off my chips. !!!

Turned cold this evening, and the moon is so bright. Frost tonight me thinks. Mel have you got the rain yet ???

Shirl, You won't be able to make a snowman now you have had all this rain. :-( :-( :-(

I see America has had a lot of flooding, what's happened to their weather. ??? We normally get what they have, so we might see some heavy rain.

Had a nice doze this afternoon after returning from the PUB. So hope I will sleep tonight.

Not a lot to say after my big posting this afternoon.

Ros had a phone call from my elder brother, so say that my eldest brother is in a coma in Hospital, it appears he is on his last legs. There was talk of taking off both his legs, His body is so full of Morphin, it's poisoned his body. They are sending him home to die. It will be a blessing when it's over. He has had Cancer for many years, which I knew nothing about, as we haven't spoken for a long time. Won't make any effort to go and see him, I don't want any family fights. My elder brother, was so rude about my stroke, and how I should get over it, and start to live my life. I never forgave him and never will. So it's best I stay away. SORRY FOLKS

Oh Frank how sad. Keep your pecker up lad!

Been up the border again and split a big Delphinium into about 5 or 6 pieces. Hope they all take as it is a Pacific Giant one and they are hard to get now.

I can always remember having salad and salmon when going to aunties for tea. I also remember aunties having a special glass jar thing for whipping cream up in. Mum always added a bit of sugar to fresh cream before whipping. I never ate cream when young or Carnatiopn milk but I did have a little of that thick tinned cream Ann was talking about. It cmae in a squashed tin like salmon did and I think it could have been Nestle's. Mum also always had a tin of Fussels condensed milk in the cupboard incase we ran out of milk. I loved that in tea.

We always had Camp Coffee when I was young. Never had the powered stuff till I was in my teens. I always had a black coffee when I went to tea with my friend Jane Quick. Her mum would put all the things on the table that were for us for tea including the little squat tin of Nescafe coffee. After we had had our tea Jane's older brothers would eat and then her parents.

Sounds to me like the best thing to do Frank. It wouldn't be good for you to get into any squabbles. It's a shame he is so ill but if he's in a coma, he won't know if you were there anyway.

Mel, I'm drooling at the thought of condensed milk!! OH is just as bad too!! Apparently, as a newborn baby I lost weight as I couldn't take any of the formula milks and mum was at her wit's end what to try as she'd run out of ideas. As a last resort, Gran tried me on diluted condensed milk and I was fine with that. They gradually swapped it with formula milk and I never looked back!!

I must make a start on the garden soon........I'm like Maureen, just going out and having a look at the moment.

Off to bed now......so night night....xx

Evening to everyone who is still up.

I used to boil my childrens nappies in a baby burco (New Kim,) welcome.
Frank my dad always used to make porrage for our breakfast in the mornings too..=I used to like it thick...I remember holding newspaper up to the coal fire to get it to catch..

I used to enjoy the Fossils milk spread on bread and butter.. We also had bread and butter with fish and chips and fruit and cream..
I have been busy today helping my brother still..As his sight is very poor we have been taking him to buy electrical goods he needs and a new mobile phone.I think he is now settled in his new flat ok now.

Tomorrow Im off to see my auntie ..Im hoping she can name some people on some old photographs I have then I can put them on my tree.

The fencing is now fixed in the garden so Mocha can go out and play..I still need to put him on his lead at the moment for him to do his business or he just goes out to play..he has been for a few walks around the block at the moment but still performs in the garden lol..Load of laughs .
Well I will say goodnight hubby has gone to bed PC is hooked up in bedroom..I must start using my laptop more..But I have more information on this one saved..

Morning All,

Got in after three attempts to sign in then clicked on the logo and signed in. Has taken me about 10 mins to a quarter of an hour.

Little old man is not too good today and it is raining a bit so he is back in his box in the lounge and under his lamp.

Don't think I shall be up the border today, too wet after the rain :-| and I was getting on so well too. Must admit I have a bit of hip ache from bending and standing funny between the plants to get at the back.

Oh is in the shower getting ready for ringing.

Anyone doing anything special today??

I never ate porridge when young. Dad usually cooked my breakfast with his, usually bacon and egg or something like that. Just one rasher or two if it was a sarnie.

We lived with nan and grandad (dad's parents) in a bungalow. Nan would tell me stories of when she was a cook and the Christmas puds went up the chimney. How true it was I never knew.
We used to go to South Woodford most Saturdays to see nan and grandad Beech (mums parents) and they always had kippers for tea on a Saturday. Nan always cooked the same meals on the same days each week when mum was young so you knew what you were going to have according to the day. Mum used to reel them off to me as she never forgot. She was given money for milk at school and she would save it and buy herself a peach in the greengrocers. When you went in nans house it always smelt of mansion polish. The hall with the stairs had wooden paneling and she would polish it every week till it shone like glass. She had one of those gass cookers on legs. Grey enammel and a draining board that was enammel too. White with a blue line round the edge next to a butlers sink.

Morning
I'm not soo good this morning, won't be going to church. woke in the middle of the night with a lot of pain on my left side. think I have strained myself with all the decorating and helping OH in the back Porch, so going to have an easy day.

OH has just left to drive down to see his mum in Lancashire she is very unwell, she has been unable to walk for the last week due to shooting pains in the right buttock when she tries to stand , can't put no wieght on the leg at all, doctors been in to see her but the medication they have subscribed is not doing anything to help, she is not eating and is very depressed. Hope they can get something sorted soon,

going for my breakfast.

Morning Mel and all,

Nothing much happening here today. It was a sunny day for a change and I managed to get my soggy washing dry. It had been hanging in the garage for 3 days, but more rain tonight.

I used to love the condensed milk and pour it out by the tablespoonful when my mother wasn't around. No wonder I always had tooth ache.

Frank I am very sorry about your brother. Family can hurt one another in the most vicious of ways. My brother said the same thing about my illness and it hurt like hell. Now he tells me I need a good feed. I don't take any notice anymore. I do hope he passes peacefully.

I might have a cuppa now and watch Breaking Bad - do you have it over there. It appeals to my wicked side, hehehaha.

Have a happy Sunday whatever you are doing. 9.31 pm DST

Morning Friends, from a very wet Northampton. Has been raining before I got up. 8.00am now getting quite heavy. What's it like your way Jane.

I was in bed early last night, but was still awake at 4.00am. My Body wants to sit down and E-Mail this brother (The one who rang Ros. ) and tell him a few homes truths. Bujt I know if I start I will be at it for HOURS. What a Jumped up little Ars#hole he his. Just like the other brother, when they hear a few home truths, they put down the Phone. and believe it never happened. Thery both forget I have a great long term memory, even though I can't remember what I did last week !!!!

Mel, You are almost describing my kitchen at Highfield Road. The cooker with little legs, the grill was a bar under the gas rings, with a tiny grill tray. It always burnt the toast.!! We did our toast in front of the fire with a big toasting fork. Our sink was very shallow, and a browny colour with a fancy patten round the edge. When M & D put in a Belfast sink. The old one was used for the pidgeons to bath in. The plug was an old tennis ball wrapped in a cloth.

I use to take the young Racing pidgeons, on the bus to Abridge in their basket and release them, then would get on the bus and came home. Then it was on the train to Ongar then Epping. Getting them trained up for their first RACE from Chateris. Cambs. Then they would race further each week till they were coming home from Thirsk in Scotland. and Frazerborough. When that was accived we felt we had had a very good season.

It's so nice to be able to unload my problems with you all, perhaps I shouldn't be so open on the thread. But who cares ????

Afternoon everyone.
Looks like all of us are having a wet and miserable day today. We have sleet mixed in with the rain.Temperature in the car was showing 2 deg.Yesterday it was 15 :-S :-S
Fiona ,I hope taking it easy today will do you good and rest those strained muscles. It sounds as though your MIL has Sciatica. That's nasty.

Kim no chance of getting washing dried outdoors here today.I was watching Bondi Rescue on tv yesterday, and seeing young people being rescued from the rip tide made me think of that poor boy who lost his life near you.I hadn't realised how close to shore they actually get caught out, even as shallow as standing depth. It's scary to see how quick someone can be whipped out and not be able to help themselves.

Dinner is in the Oven.Normandy Pork today.I only need to add Dijon Mustard,Creme Fraiche and a bit of Cornflower .Not sure whether to do rice or potatoes yet.I think James will have rice as it is quick ,then he will eat first as he is going out.Chris and I will have ours maybe about 3 o'clock. He is busy doing paperwork.

I have never heard of Fossils Milk :-S.We never had Camp Coffee at home.It was always Nesca**.Mum always liked a milky coffee and the milk would be heated up in a pan on the stove. My sister had what she called a Coffee dash. All milk with just a dash of coffee powder.(about a 1/4 of a teaspoon) Hardly worth it really lol

Better go and have a look in the oven now .BBL

Afternoon everyone,

The rain started here about ten this morning and has gradually got harder,we nipped out to the garden centre were there are lots of other little shops one of them is a lovely kitchen shop, they sell every thing in there for the kitchen , i needed a new gasket for my pressure cooker .
Jake came with us and in the garden centre he picked a nice little Primula for his mum, its a lovely deep purple with a creamy white centre , we also had a bit of lunch there .

Have now got the pork in the oven ,its smelling good have done all the usual veg and stuffing , its making my mouth water just thinking about it !!

Frank, so sorry to hear about your brother , it's so sad .

We use to have Camp coffee too, the milk was boiled in the pan with one of those glass things in the bottom of the pan ,it would rattle so you knew the milk was boiling .
Mum use to make a lovely coffee Blancmange with the camp coffee and cornflour.

Time for a cuppa.
