Know what you mean Mandy about easing yourself in to the gardening, I need to think about if for a few weeks before I even go out there, then I will have a walk around and look at everything and maybe make a start. Think Gardeners World starts up again soon.

Well i decided that i was only going to do a small strip ,from one post to another , i usually do too much then i carn't move the next day .

Next doors cat came over to see what i was up too ,and every time i tried to hoe ,he thought it was a game and kept pawing the hoe !! he's the one that keeps leaving me his calling card on the lawn .

Maureen Report 2 Mar 2012 16:04

I dread to think what I will find when I start in the garden, cut the lawn last summer and found a dead mouse.

Will take this photo off, you can barely make them out.

Frank

Frank Report 2 Mar 2012 16:30

Well I did what I said. Only spent about 2 hours in the garden. Pulled up the last of the leeks, cut some cabbages,Ros had her pick, then gave the rest to the neighbours. Have marked the patch where my "OLD FRIEND" is. and dug about 6' X 12' Will do a bit more tomorrow, if I feel like it. Where my "OLD FRIEND" is i am going to put a cane wigwag and grow sweetpeas up it. That way he won't be disturbed.

Ros is gradually getting everything together for her Jewellery making. She has made a small necklace and bracelet for ELLA for Easter. Just pretty beads, which a four year old will like.

Mel you have been busy 3 lines of washing :-D :-D :-D :-D

Maureen, It will never get done by walking around it ;-) ;-) ;-) A little a day, and it will soon be done.

Mandy, It's so lovely when the children start to chatter. They get so excited and just go gabbling away, thinking you understand all the say. And if you give the wrong reply they say NO and start all over. !!!!

Jane, so pleased you are feeling a bit better today. I have PMd you.

William Report 2 Mar 2012 16:54

Hi Folks,

Looks like we've all been out attacking our gardens, except Mel who seems to have put THREE lines of washing out! Don't you just hate it when this thread gets the hiccups?

I have to admit that even I have made a little headway in our garden, but enough not to set my backache off again. Carmel's friend bought her one of those topiary balls so I had to take down the hanging basket from the front and replace with the hanging ball. Then it was rescue the planter out there by adding some pansies we bought in Coventry yesterday. Also got her some hyacinths, which she loves, and unlike most of what we've seen, these were just coming into bud. They needed repotting though as the roots were coming through the bottom of the pot.
Having done that, I gave the lawn a first skim. We have an oak at the bottom and of course the fallen leaves don't rot away. So what I do is rake them off the borders etc and onto the lawn. That way I just 'hoover' them up with the lawnmower. It looks a bit tidier anyway. Even with the bit of sunshine, it was still cool out in the garden.

The forecast is a wet weekend so that's why I made the effort. At least the dew had dried off by the time I got out there when we came back from shopping.

Yesterday we took the bus into Coventry. They have taken some of the traffic lights out in the centre and it's a free-for-all. A chap was knocked down and killed by a bus the other week. It must be awful for those partially sighted or blind, or come to that with impaired hearing. Broadgate still looks worse than it did in the Blitz, I haven't a clue what they are supposed to be doing. Lady Godiva's horse looks like it going to bolt any minute! I wouldn't mind, but some of the Coventry district side roads are in an awful state, why is their money being spent on a long-winded tarting-up of just one open space? If I were to drive with my eyes shut (I won't, of course!) I would be able to tell you when we went over the Warwickshire-Coventry border. It's that bad. They even had a Facebook page on it at one time.

Anyway off to make the Friday fish and chips. Bet Frank is having something more adventurous.

Catch you all later.

William, Nothing very exciting tonight. Nice lean pork slices, jacket potato and baked beans. Ros had Chips. most unusual.

Have put a few things on E-bay this afternoon. Now the wait. Apart from that I have been very good and read my book.

Shirl, You had the finest views in the Country when you lived in Scotland, You will go swaning off to foreign parts, won't you. <3 <3 <3 <3 How long is it now that you have been in Canada. We are talking about the Yorkshire Moors Even though I was evacuated to Lancashire, it was so long ago, and the old bitch who had us would never have taken us anywhere. My ex and her Mother were evacuated to Bradford. We did go there for a fortnight when I was 18 and did the usual places. Cow and Carf. Ikley Moor the STRID at Bolton Abbey. York, Naresborough. Day trip to Blackpool. etc.

Good weekend of Football. Liverpool v Arsenal on Sat 12.45 pm and on Sunday my old West Ham play Cardiff. On ITV lunchtime.

See you later.

The Corona van delivering bottles of "pop" to my nans. Sunlight laundry also used to take nan's white bedding and bring it back starched and ironed. Buying blocks of ice cream from the van and having it wrapped in newspapers - likewise fish and chips. My mum's 'portable' hairdryer - strange headgear with a thing she used to put over her shoulder and a winding pipe attaching the two Counting Dad's Players no. 6 tokens to see what gift we could buy and the same with greenshield stamps and I seem to remember pink stamps as well. Nan putting 6d on top of the dustbin every week for the dustman, who used to go into her back garden to collect the iron bin, empty it in the van and then return it to her back garden. Playing out in the street all day without worrying about "strangers". Holidays in Great Yarmouth, sitting on the beach whatever the weather, with a china teapot and cups on hire from the tea shop, to have cups of tea on the beach. Watching Captain Scarlet on the tv - always wanted to be one of the angels. If we went to anyones house for tea on Sunday it was always Salmon (tinned), ham and salad with fruit salad and tinned cream to follow, if anyone came to us they had the same. Mum doing her boil wash in a Baby Burco. No shops open on Sunday - heaven!

Hi to you Kim, You must be a new KIM and I assume not from U.K. unless you are a real early bird. posting at 4.53 am

Yes I remember all of your memories, also the Rag Sack that was hooked on the back fence for the Dustman to take away. The newspapers were tied in a bundle and taken to the F & C shop or the Wet fish man.

Where are you from ????

Not a very nice day here, overcast and promise of RAIN. with sleet and snow. So winter isn't over yet.

Having a day off today, Back was aching after yesterdays excercise. :-( :-( :-( Will see what the weather holds before I make any promises for tomorrow.
Won't see much of Ros today. She is off to see Martine at 10.30 and will be down the pub for 12.45 pm kick off..As it's Jan's Birthday next weekend, she is comming down from Rutland and they are going shopping this afternoon. So at the best we will be passing ships till about 6.30/7.00pm.

Mel, from the forcast you are in for the rain before us, batten down the hatches !!!!

I bet most of you will be out and about today spending the OHs money :-) :-) :-) :-) That's what Saturdays are for for you girls, isn't it <3 <3 <3 <3

Morning all,

I'm having problems reading the old posts if I try to go back or forward, everything shuts down or I get the error message. Sorry I can't respond to anything.

Car all fixed now, windscreen and passenger window all good now. Frank I would be pleased if you could give this fellow the treatment. He did all this by himself.

Flooding has been bad over here. The Warragamba Dam spilled over last night for the first time in 14 years. Lots of evacuations down river. The rain stopped here this morning, but it has been overcast all day and started again tonight. Son going out tonight, so that will be a test for the little Kimmy mobile.

Hi Kim great memories you have. I loved it when everything was closed on Sunday. It was truly a family day with no rushing around and even trips to the park for picnics or visiting the grandparents.

Shirl I'm sure you were a beautiful baby. How is the weather doing over your way?

Jane I proposed to my ex on 29 Feb. 1980 as well. One of those silly little mistakes, lol. I tried pulling my father backwards out of the church, but that didn't work. :-| He said "we're here now and you're coming down this bl**dy aisle with me."

Off to have my cuppa before it goes cold and see what the tv has to offer.

Have a good day everyone. 8.58 pm DST

Morning Everyone
and Hi to new Kim.(that was a bit confusing for a mo when I saw the name) lol

We all used to have a sneaky smoke of No6 in the back of the school bus) :-S :-S :-S.The people in the post office would open a packet and sell the cigarettes separately :-0

Kim,your weather sounds horrendous.I hope everyone is safe.
I'd forgotten about everything being closed on Sundays.Yes it was always a family day.Often a walk in the morning then a nice roast.Maybe in the afternoon we might take a ride up to the Moors and sit amongst the Dartmoor ponies while we enjoyed ice cream.Other times like (new) KIm,it would be visiting people (so boring) and eating the same food lol
I always took myself off to inspect the toilet and would report to Mum whether it was nice.Poor Mum must have been mortified each time i did that.

It is raining here now .Just light rain but RAIN :-D :-D.Not sure if it will last ,and Chris is going to be having a bonfire. There is so much rubbish to get rid of.I doubt he will get a chance tomorrow as it is supposed to be Heavy rain.

My day off for walkies today :-D and tomorrow :-D :-D.Chester has just arrived back after a good decent walk for once.So I've just given him a good rub down and de muddied his feet.(Chris never does that as well as me ).He is now running in and out of the kitchen with his nose high sniffing the air.I 've got Chicken stock on the go lol

Right I think I had better get dressed now ,but after a coffee.Lots of half price things at Tes** so I will have a mosey .

Got me thinking about Sunday's When the only shop open was the News agents. I was a paper boy from aged 12. The papers had to be delivered., whatever the day and weather.

After Sunday "DINNER" 2.00 pm. We were sent off for the afternoon. !!!! 1d for sunday school collection. (If we bothered to go) more often it was out with my friends, Or my "GIRLFRIEND" in the summer I would pick some pinks from the garden to take to her. or go to Bluebell wood and pick bunches of bluebells. (I was a ladies man even trhen) I'm pleased to say I haven't changed :-D :-D :-D

As I am on my own AH. I have been looking up memories of Woodford Bridge. where I was born. The number of people who have posted memories is quite surprising. I have added a lot also. Will have to spend more time on there to see if I can track down some old "PALS"

Yes Jane, our little Co-Op kiosk would sell single ciggies, and we would puff away on the way to School. Someone always had a few Swan Vestas in their pockers that they had pinched from home. !! There was also another Cigarette that was twice as long as the usual. They cost one and a half pennies. But we could break those in half, It worked out cheaper than buying ordinarry sized ones. You could buy a paper pack of FIVE Weights or woodbines for 5d. (2 1/2) new pence.
