Mandy, Fitz, actually hasn't had it as bad as we have up here.He is more in a dip.As for smelling I think we all stink of smoke here .I wouldn't mind if it smelled like a nice bonfire ,but it is a plasticy smell. The kind that stings the back of the throat and nose when you breathe in ,and makes your eyes water.
I was talking to someone earlier and apparently it could be smelled right over the other side of town today.
I think I would like to move to the coast for a week or so
:-D :-D :-D

This is the message I got from GR today;

Dear Ann

Please accept our sincere apologies for the problems that you have been
experiencing over the past few days.

We identified a problem within our database on Friday evening which our
Technical Team managed to rectify.
However, we are aware that there are continuing sporadic performance issues
affecting some members.

You can rest assured that our technical team are closely monitoring the site and
are doing their very best to resolve the remaining issues as soon as is
possible.

Kind Regards,

So they eventually got back to you then Ann!!
There's this on announcements

UPDATE **********
We have rolled out some changes late this afternoon 6PM UK time, and the site appears to be more stable. We are still seeing the odd error occur, but not in the volumes they have been the last few days. We hope to make some more changes tomorrow to improve on this.

More changes !!! so we'll wait and see what tomorrow brings !!

That smoke has been around ages now Jane. When it happened near here it burned for days but but gradually went out. There must be a lot of unburnt stuff still fuelling the fire, can't be very healthy all those noxious fumes.

Poor little puss, someone will be missing him. I bet Fitz was glad it wasn't their Podge.

Mel, glad the certificate came quickly, OH said you had rung and he left me a note as well. I'm glad it confirmed what you thought.......another step back in the right direction!

Fiona, looks like everything worked out for the best in the end then. Once that's done, you will be ready to say goodbye to that troublesome gall bladder!!

Mandy, I don't know about BUILDER'S TEA lol........ I just hope Maureen doesn't get the BUILDER'S BUM that goes with it, like I do when I keep bending down!!!!!
:-S :-S

Frank I would call that cheeky monkey BOOT BOY and get your shoes and some polish out for him!! lol :-D :-D

My back was easier if not brilliant today so that is a good sign but I think an early night for me as I was still awake at 3.00am this morning. I noticed a light shining under the door then and made OH go and investigate!!!! It turns out he had forgotten to swith the lounge light off!! Whenever that happens it unsettles me for a while and I can't get back to sleep. He's done that a couple of times lately. Honestly, the less he has to think about the less he seems to remember!! lol

Jane

Jane Report 24 Oct 2011 20:09

I'm always telling James to check his Builder's BUM.Just give his jeans a hoick and it's fine lol
Chris has just got home ,and said crikey !!! it does hit the throat.(The smoke hadn't affected where he works.
They say it is safe (the fumes). But how many times has that been said before with things, and then later Health problems appear :-S :-S :-S.it just smells 'toxic'.Still after 2 weeks !!!!!

Liz, the 3 months will whizz by as you watch your new place being built. Caravans soon warm up being small so once you have done for the day I'm sure you will be cosy. It will be far better than being near that unpleasant neighbour. Then you will have the warmer weather coming for doing all the finishing touches in the new place and getting it how you want.

Fiona Report 24 Oct 2011 21:37

Yes Ann just over one week to go now before my op, I will be so glad when it's over as the last few days have been hard work at least I got through today without feeling sick.

Stayed dry today, OH phoned from Germany and said the sun was out and it was quite mild & pleasent,

Well I might as well lock up the doors and go to bed, have a new book to start tonight by Isabel Allende, I have never read any of her books before it's called of LOVE and SHADOWS

catch up tomorrow
night night

Morning All,

Sun is shining this morning after heavey rain last night.

Liz good luck in your van over the winter. I hope you don't get too much condensation as that can be a problem in the winter time. Make sure you get the pipes lagged well as our caravan had burst pipes one year. Flooded the lot and last year after oh turned the water on up there a pipe had burst going to the bathroom. It leaked in the bedroom when he turnes the water on again in the summer.

Frank get Lewis to teach you to copy and paste while he is staying with you. It will save you so much time when doing things on your tree or even on the thread. You can copy your posts and if they disappear you can just put them back on again. I am sure Lewis will be able to do it and once you have done it a couple of times it becomes second nature.

Jane there must be something that can be done about that acrid smoke. I have just had a word with oh and he said if it smells of plastic or pvc then it has some amount of syanide in it. He also said why are we not aloud to burn plastics and pvc if it is not dangerous. They should get jcb's and diggers in to get to the root of the fire and extinguish? it that way. It should'nt be left this long to burn away.

OH has just made me laugh......... he came out and made himself a cup of coffee and went back in his study. Came back again and said to me "look at the coffee I just made myself and walked all the way through with it" he had'nt put any coffee in the mug, he just had hot water. Lol

Smoke drifting from a major fire at a waste processing plant towards Kettering poses no danger to public health, a lead fire officer has claimed.

The fire service has said the blaze at Blackbridge Farm in Burton Latimer, which started on Tuesday evening, is twice the size of a fire which hit the site just two weeks before.

Having contained the fire to an area larger than a football pitch, nearly a dozen firefighters are now encouraging the flames with air vents in a bid to speed up the burning process and reduce smoke.

But despite the officers’ round-the-clock work, large plumes of smoke were being carried by the wind to Barton Seagrave and parts of Kettering yesterday.

The amount of smoke from the burning 3,000 tonnes of cardboard, paper and plastic could be smelled by many people across the county.

The message being sent out to people by Northamptonshire County Council and the fire service was for people potentially exposed to the smog to keep doors and windows closed.

Fire service group manager Luke Hodson said: “There are no health risks from the smoke. Air quality monitoring equipment has confirmed that, although the smell is acrid, there is low toxicity and it has no impact on people’s health.

“The only people who may feel the effect are those with respiratory conditions such as asthma.”

Using underground air vents at the waste recycling plant, the fire service is encouraging the fire while moving away surrounding materials to avoid it spreading.

The fire service say they expect to remain at the site until at least the weekend, when they hope the blaze will be out.

It is the second time the service has been called to the site following a separate fire on September 25.

An investigation is under way to determine the cause of both fires.

Mr Hodson said: “It is not disappointing, but more of a case that we never like to attend fires.

“We would rather put more time into educating people how to deal and reduce the risk of fires.”

Think Environment operates at the farm, recycling waste to produce energy.

Barton Seagrave Town Council member Maurice Bayes said: “It’s quite a sight. From a distance it looks like a good imitation of the Icelandic volcano.”

Don't know about this Think Enviroment, if thats what the place is called they should be doing all they can to put this out as we are all thinking about the eviroment and what all this smoke is doing to it!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about this one then??? This persons says exactly what I said about the name of the firm and what is happening about this huge fire on the enviroment.

Tuesday 18th October
It's a fire at a waste processing site at Burton Latimer. The operators sound like a shadey bunch and were fined 12 grand earlier this year for some other misdmeanour. During the summer they were warned by the Fire Brigade that there was a fire risk at the premises. Low and behold in September there's a huge blaze with about half of Northants' Fire Service called out to deal with it: that took 2 weeks to extinguish. The A6 was closed for a few days I believe.

2 weeks later there's another even bigger one. This is a completely separate one and has been burning for a few days now as you have seen. In fact I'm just heading off that way in a few minutes, so will see if the night's shower has extinguished it. I feel very sorry for the locals.

The company's name is "Think Environment". Haha. I wonder how many tonnes of CO2 that place has emitted in the past month.

On a clear day

Rise and look around you

And you'll see who you are

On a clear day

How it will astound you

That the glow of your being

Outshines every star

You'll feel part of every mountain, sea and shore

From far and near

A word you've never, never heard before...

And on a clear day...On a clear day...

You can see forever...

And ever...

And ever...

And ever more...

Jane Report 25 Oct 2011 11:31

They are nice words aren't they Mel.
As for 'Think Environment'if they had been warned of a fire risk at the site and haven't actually acted on that then I think they should be stumping up compensation for those badly affected.I don't mean me especially but I know people in the houses at the bottom of our Rd have had this smoke virtually the whole time.
A friend of mine told me that the site is actually owned by a Japanese Company(but I don't know anything about that).I think she has good sources for info.I'm sure it will be a very long investigation :-S

Morning my lovlies,

I see you have been busy on the thread since I posted yesterday.

Nothing new Jane, you complaining over something or other :-D :-D :-D :-D Not really, but had to have a dig lol lol It must be horrible to wake up every morning to that smell.

Mel, I just had a word with Lewis, he will show me how to Copy and Paste when they come back from the Cinema this afternoon.

Liz, How big is the plot of land, where you are having your LOG CABIN. Is there stableing for Merlin on site. And are the mains gas, electric and water available or have you got to pay to have them put in. It will be some adventure for the pair of you.I am sure you will cope.

It's been absolute heaven this week, not having the tree to cut and move. We had a fair bit of rain last night, and there is the autumn feel in the air this morning.

Ros and Lewis are off to the Cinema in a few minutes. Then the Tele can go off, and I will hoover through, and prepare dinner for tonight. Then have a read for an hour.

My slippers arrived this morning. They are abbsolute CRA#. One is bigger than the other, and the finish is not good. The are suppose to be from the Edinborough Wool mil##. But made in CHIN# I would think for about 20p a pair. :-( :-( :-( :-( They are going back, I have asked for a returns packet this morning. I'm on my high horse.!!! I feel a dispute comming on. ;-) ;-) ;-)

It's still nice here and I don't want to go shopping this afternoon but should really. I want to get in the garden when it's nice.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 Oct 2011 12:41

Calm down Frank we don't want you having another funny turn while Lewis is with you!!! ;-)

Make sure you don't forget about the copy and paste he promissed to show you. He will be able to get you to do it over and over again until you get it right. You won't know how you did'nt understand how to do it. When oh showed me first how to do it I could'nt for ages but once i realized where I was going wrong it was easy. Would'nt be without it now. thats how I got all the reports on the fire put on here.

I have cleared out two stacking boxes that have been in the corner of the kitchen for years. They had oh's boots in them and some sandles which are now housed in his wardrobe (now we have one) and the other one which had all sorts in it has been cleared and now houses oh's fish food which was always on the floor in the way. Now if I can get these two trugs of tomatoes bagged up and put on the table outside I shall be able to get to my cupboard in the corner without a problem.

Afternoon everyone,

Not such a bright day here today, have put my bed linen out but there's no real blow today,i expect when i get them in they'll be as wet as when they went out.!!

Jane, i should have thought the song to sing would be Smoke Gets In Your Eyes :-S

Oh dear Frank, that's not to good ,one slipper bigger than the other , keep calm now , don't go and put your foot in it :-D :-D

Better go and put the clean linen on the bed and have a bit of a dust and hover , might clear out a few draws too , why do we keep so much stuff.!!
