AfternoonAll,
More of your interesting memories Dermot. I remember dad used to talk of Linnets and Siskins and of course the Goldfinches like I had from Grandad when he died. There were also crosses too which I think were called mules. I watched a programme last week about the old gipsy way of life and they would catch songbirds and it showed the wicker cages underneath a caravan. I remember the Goldfinch we had had 3 favourite foods.....niger seed, hemp seed and chickweed. He would empty his seed pot to get all the niger and hempseed first!! He also loved the sound of football on the telly and the hoover. Either of those sounds would get him singing his little heart out!!
As a child there were lots of hedgerows with bird's nests in the spring and I would creep up to look in at the eggs if the mother bird wasn't sitting on the nest. Strict orders from mum not to touch though, but it was magical to see what beautiful little nests they made and the different coloured eggs. I just don't see many nests in the hedges around here.
Did you keep a particular breed of cow? I ask as I have been watching a series I recorded about farming in the 30s and now. I was surprised how the Aberdeen Angus and massive Herefords with the red and white coats used to be waist height and are now shoulder height. They have been bred to be small or large according to the size of joint the housewife wants!!
Glad you had a nice time in London Jane, there are some interesting bars there! Poor Chester doesn't sound too good. I wonder if he was anxious because you weren't there to fuss him with him not being well. Let's hope it was just a tummy upset and nothing more. I found I was worrying about him too!! Good news for Chris though to see some feeling coming back. Hopefully he will get his familiar (sounds better than old) face back soon.
OMG David, what a dreadful shock that fall must have been when you dropped over that wall! No need to apologise as we all do impulsive things at times without seeing any potential danger till it's too late. It seems you are in good company with the famous that have been treated where you are!! It will be good if you can get home for a couple of months at least. You will sleep better for a start. I think you motto for the future will be 'Look before you leap' !! lol. :-) Very best wishes to you.......how is the food?

Afternoon everyone
The pills are kicking in slightly and I don't feel so drowsy though with that extra hour added on I didn't wake up till 10 am this morning , sunny but a cold wind, not going out today , OH digging in the garden getting ready for the sand and grit to be laid, he has filled up the skip 3 1/4 of the way. going to get the men to collect it earlier than planned, will be great to see the old shed in place behind the garage and then it's the green house to be built, that's a while away yet,
We are taking daughter no 1 & kids out sometime this week to a farm near by to see the lambs, daughter had planned to do it on Easter Sunday, but I was not great and she was very tired so we will go sometime this week while OH is on holiday.
Jane , I hope Chester will be ok.
Sofia met Kiah for the first time yesterday, they were both really good with each other, daughter no 2 sat and painted hard boiled eggs with Sofia and then daughter no 2 & boyfriend and Sofia and OH took Kiah out to a large field with a slope and rolled the eggs . Kiah raced after them , she loves eggs and only eat the cracked ones, but left the whole ones, good girl, :-D SIL watched his car racing on the TV, daughter no1 went for a lie down and I had a great time babysitting Matteo it was nice to have him all to my self

Glad you feel a bit better Fiona. Kiah sounds like she's being a good girl with Sofia so that is a good start. You have given me an idea talking about painting eggs!! ;-) Your OH is doing well getting on with the garden changes.......I can't tempt mine out there till he sees some sunshine! Little matteo will enjoy his time with you too.
Mandy.......any pics of the bag, the colours sounded really nice and you have got that done really quickly!! I'm trying to find some cheap pure wool for our felted bags next term. I got 100g of grey on Nuneaton market for 50p but need another 100g in a colour to go with it........doubt it will be 50p again though.

Dermot. There are several Robins in my garden.3 in particular that I recognise.2 of those are very cheeky and tame and each time they see me either through the window or outside are straight here expecting food lol.I have to be careful that 'Buster' as I call one doesn't hop in through the back door. I only ever knew people with Budgies in cages.Sid and Peter were two that I remember. When we are on holiday in Italy or warmer parts of France I love to see little bird cages hanging on the walls outside of houses and flats with little birds in.I think a lot are canaries (by the sound)
Ann I am afraid that time is now running out for my boy.He has brought up his fish again now and he is walking quite oddly (wibbly wobbly). He just fell in the back door :-(.It is probably his kidneys making him toxic now.I will see how today goes .and then it might be decision time.I can't type anymore....but i'll be alright again in a minute.(when I can see clearly lol)

Oh no Jane! I was hoping he'd be ok being as he felt like eating. I would be at the vet's with him tomorrow I think, whatever the outcome. How sad to see him falling about like that, I bet you can think of little else but to keep checking on him at the moment.

Mandy wipe your eyes. It's making me worse. I won't say anymore about the situation until I have any news.I don't won't to depress the thread lol.Chris has gone for a walk.He is being very quiet about things as he knows that when time comes it will be him dealing with it :-S and he's getting a bit 'short' with me.
On a lighter note now.I have a ton of washing to get done and need to peel spuds :-D how exciting is that :-P..
Did anyone see The Village last night?I thought it was good.I was sure I had seen it before. Is it a completely new series or has it ever been on before in the past?

I know what you mean David, when I had an operation years ago, I didn't fancy food for days, but had some anyway, or they wouldn't have let me go home. Do you have access to a computer in there or do you have your own with you? Whichever it is, it must help pass the time being able to have the internet.

David I think you must be the first person I have heard say in a very long time that the hospital food is ok !!!.I'm sure your appetite will pick up.Does Ellen need to bring you in any food ?Most visitors these days seem to be taking food in lol
We have a few snow flurries on and off today. Not anything really but definitely snow. When will it be proper Spring I wonder ??? It's getting ridiculous now. You wait in a week or too we might have 30 degrees !!!! I love the British Weather you just never know what to expect. But when we were young and enjoying Childhood we always remember hot sunny days. Were the Summers always that good ?? or is it just what our minds like us to remember?
I will be in and out here now for the rest of the day to keep my mind occupied :-D.I'll be a pain in the you know what lol

David when my BIL was in hospital he paid for the television( he doesn't use the internet ) but it also included any out going phone calls too. Sounds as if you are happy with the food , BIL was too he said they also had lots of fresh fruit that was brought round in the afternoon.
We did seem to have lots of lovely hot summers , but i was only looking through some photo's the other day of me with my sister playing in snow that was really heaped up on the banks , and she said she remembers skating on one of the farmers fields that was flooded for weeks !!
We're having jackets potatoes tonight with some Gammon ham and what ever else i can find to go with them .

You won't be a pain at all Jane. :-D I can safely inform you that the good weather will start a week today!! THAT is when OH's car is having the heater repaired so I reckon as soon as we have that back it will be unecessary to use it. In fact we will probably need the AIRCON!! lol. ;-)
I remember just having tv and phone David and that was very expensive 10 years ago! Still, it's worth it to pass a bit of time. It's still a rip off though, same as hospital parking! However did they manage without the millions they now generate from these things? If it was all going towards state of the art equipment it would be good, but I doubt it all does.
I didn't have much appetite, but found the food to be fine too. I lived on sandwiches, fruit and cereal which were what I fancied the most.
Yes, oh for a hot sunny day (then I will start moaning I'm too hot!). It was lovely as a child, lying on the grass and listening to grasshoppers. It did seem to be sunny for ages.
Having a google of Scotland now, I still fancy going later this year. ;-)
