What a busy morning we've had. First stop the vet to collect more antibiotic for Millies eye!! We still have one more visit next Wednesday for her second booster jab so that she can go to kennels when we go to France in Sept. Poor old Millie she does hate it it, but we can't not go away because of her, so hardened hearts are the order of the day!! Then we did the shopping at Morrisons for the week, onto Malmesbury for horse food, and then to the optician to collect our glasses! Poor Chester Jane, I think when animals get older they do tend to have one thing after the other the matter with them, bit like people!! poor old boy. Like you Frank, I'm getting more than fed up with it being such a performance to get on here. Yesterday, in the end I just couldn't be bothered, and gave it up as a bad job. Today I've got on by clicking the pages in sequence of about 100 pages at a time, which is really tiresome and time wasting. I too have complained to Genes, and if it goes on I'm not renewing in May, which I shall be telling them to see if that produces an improvement!!!

Measles is far worse than german measles Ann, you might not even notice you have german measles as it is only a slight rash and can be gone in hours. Chloe is much better today after starting the antibiotics, although mother-i-l had something to say about Chloe being too young for antibiotics, daughter takes no notice, says she's always got something to say and obviously knows better than the doctor, daughter's current name for her is Grottbags :-0
I'm off on Saturday Jane and coming home Monday. Daughter makes a lovely Simnel cake, I will try and be good and not eat too much of it, and s-i-l does a roast to rival Frank's, sure to be lamb this Sunday. Both grandchildren will be at home too, an added bonus.
I really enjoy reading your memories of your childhood in Ireland Dermot. Luckily for me my school was only about a ten minute walk one good thing about living in a town.

Dermot are you in Exeter now please?
Forgot to say this morning we had a very l;ittle covering of snow but it soon all melted away.
Fiona did your head get bad again after they took you off the stronger pills and put you back on the old ones? I hope you feel better soon as there is nothing worse than a very sore head! :-|
I see Pat has been repeating herself again. :-D
Sun is still out here and I have two lots of washing on the line but one lot can come in soon as it is just about ready for ironing.
Must find something for dinner tonight. Better head to the freezer now :-\

Did anyone watch 'Pompeii last night? We thought it was absolutely brilliant, and well worth staying awake(?!!) for. Margaret Mounford presented it so competently, serious, well informed and compassionate for what was such a horrendous end for those poor people. I do envy you Jane for getting the chance to see the exhibition. If last night is anything to go by you should enjoy it very much. After the sun(!!!) this am, it is now cloudy and cold again, so must wrap up to take Millie. Maureen we shall be having Lamb on Sunday, as well as hotcross buns for breakfast, and fish for lunch on Friday! As well to keep your options open particularly now we are getting older!!!

Afternoon All,
I might have had German measles and not known it then Maureen. I certainly remember getting ordinary measles aged 18. I was in bed for a few days I felt so rough and I remember dad brought the books home so I could prepare the month's invoices in bed and catch up with the book keeping!!!! :-S Not what I felt like at all!!
Pat you must take more water with it.......all these hiccups! lol. It sounds like your boys are both trying to be the boss with all this 'marking' of your bed. Maybe it will improve as Max's hormones settle after the chop.
Liz we both watched Pompeii and round it very interesting and really enjoyed it like you did. We thought Margaret was good, but a bit newsreaderish without much humour. I don't think she has done this kind of thing before though, so it must be hard to be relaxed at first. Wasn't the reconstruction of the man particularly lifelike. I would have thought the face was real if I hadn't known. I wish they would get someone to do a reconstruction of someone for whom photos are held though and not let them see the photos, just to see how true to life a reconstruction really is!!
Dermot, that was quite a journey to school you had, running the gauntlet of all those things. I used to catch the bus on my own aged 5 to go to the infant school in town, then when I moved to junior school in the next village, I had a walk of about 2-3 miles to school, depending on whether the weather was suitable for the shorter route across the fields. I also used to cut one corner off by walking through the Cannock Chase when I was brave enough as it was very scary and pitch dark in the depths of the forest. I used to have to pass a Border Collie like the dogs you describe if I couldn't take the short cut across the fields and sometimes the snow drifts were just too deep!! . No matter how quiet I tried to be on the gravel paths, it would hear me and rush out barking it's head off. Mum always told me to stand my ground and not run, but it was very scary and the owner saying he wouldn't hurt me was very unconvincing!! More so when I learned to ride my 2 wheeler bike and went to school on that and then had to pass where he lived. It was a gamble to try and get by fast as he would chase the bike and be even worse than if you were on foot and jump up trying to bite it and me!! I think I would have loved Ireland as a child because of all the horses.
Chester will be getting whatever he fancies now then Jane. :-D Maybe the infection he has has made him feel off his food a bit.
Frank, well done on getting a good night's sleep......can you send me one please. :-) Looks like you will have a good get together over easter. Conrad must have a big oven for those joints!! We noticed today that the farm we get our Xmas turkey from has them for sale half price. I might ring tomorrow to see if any smaller ones are left.

Yes I agree with you about Margaret M Ann, she was quite serious and no nonsense, not like Mary Beard whose programmes we really enjoy too!! Those faces were quite incredible, the girl was so lovely, and the chap fantastic - both so lifelike particularly the man. Doing a reconstruction of someone where there is photographic evidence would be interesting, and would prove the point! Won't be taking Merlin anywhere over Easter as the local hunt kennels have Equine Flu! and we don't want to run the risk of picking that up. I remember having measles too when I was very small, mumps and chicken pox but not german measles, but who knows I could have had it mildly without knowing as I was certainly in contact with it in the hopes that I WOULD get it as a child/young person, but I never seemed to!

It worked. By minimising the page, I was able to bring it back without going round the houses.
It's still blooming cold out there. I just don't seem to be able to get warm. The central heating is on, I have fleece jogging trousers on T shirt and a small fleece jacket. I hope I am not going down with anything. It's most unusual for me to be wrapped up.
Ros has been to Tesc# to stock up on my beer. 2x 30 tins at £18.00 each. 60p a can, that will last a fare few days, and save me going to the pub at £3.00 per pint. Also save going out in this weather.
I don't remember having measles, but I guess I did. The one I remember was Glandular Fever, at the age of 17. Had to spend three weeks in bed. and had glands the size of a ping pong balls. under my neck, arms and in the groin. I though "hallo" what are these lol lol. No visitors, as Mum said it was catching, if it was, I didn't know.
Going to catch the NEWS.

Fiona I'm tangled up in knots keeping everything crossed for you and hope the increase in meds does the trick.
Liz I watched the programme.I'm even more excited about going to the exhibition now. What an interesting but tragic story of the people of Pompeii and Herculaneum.I bet Chris won't be able to get me out of the Museum lol.Mind you saying that our tickets are for 3pm so I assume you have just so long.
I'm just cooking rice and Turkey for guess who.I'll still add a few nobbles of his dried stuff but I bet that will be spat out on the floor. :-S
Mel Dermot is in Exeter. :-D
My shopping trip was partly successful.I bought a pair of Jeggings and a top which are fine.Another top and jacket will be going back .Two bras I will keep and 2 pairs of pants which I realised weren't the right ones will be going back.
Well Chester has wolfed down the turkey and rice.I have a horrible feeling though we are now on the downhill slope :-( :-(.Which I really don't want to think about. Chris has not been feeling great today....If it's not one it's the other lol
Lamb Steaks tonight with Potato Gratin and a mix of veg. Frank it looks you are going to be well fed over Easter :-D.At least you won't be snowed in at Rutland this visit.
Oh Gawd I just had a few tears thinking about Chester :-S.I must stop thinking about the worst.Silly old bat!
How are the Chickenpox and Ear infection girls today? Also William and Carmel.I imagine exhausted today.Still thinking of you <3

Jane, make sure you report back from the museum in DETAIL ;-) Are you allowed to take photos? if so, do forward some,-- please!!! No, you're NOT a silly bat feeling upset about Chester, it is so horrid when they get doddery, I sometimes look at Millie and think how grey she has got round her muzzle in the last year, and the thought of her not being with us makes me weepy! (and I'm hard hearted!!) I cooked rice for Millie when she had her teeth done and mixed chicken in it which she loved, even taking her pill crushed up in it!!! so maybe rice is the answer. What with Chester and Chris! you'll have to paint a plague cross on your front door!!!! (only joking!!) As M is sometimes moved to say, 'It's a bit of a bummer!' I do feel for you (particularly over Chester)

Oh Jane, please try to look on the brighter side. I know how you are feeling, it has happened to me three times over the years with dogs, and twice with my beloved cats.
I didn't see that programme, I don't think it would be my kind of thing. I never learnt about anything g like that as a child, and have never got interested in history, apart from the two wars. that I had interest in, through my Dad and brothers.
Did you see that midget Warwick someone the other night, about the seven dwarfs. That was a real eye opened of what went on in these prison camps.
William and Carmel should be back home tonight, I think. Do hope their day yesterday wasn't to traumatic.
We had a turkey curry tonight, Ros makes that, as she doesn't like it to hot. She always does a plate of fruit on the side. Pineapple, banana, tomato and cucumber , it's something she did when she lived in Nigeria in 1963, and has done so ever since. The idea being ,it takes the heat out of the curry. It's the kind of meal that makes me hungry a couple of hours later, so will have a nose through the fridge later.
Anyone down south had any snow today. ?? the forecast isn't good for the weekend. minus 2 or 3 with possible snow showers during the day. Keep warm everyone.

My dear dear friends, reading your kind posts and your thoughts has bought the tears back to my eyes again. Not so much as to the sadness, but to have the sincere support of you guys and gals. Thank you so so much, it means a great deal to us both. Well, it was an ordeal I have to admit, but we were there for each other, for Jim and his family - just as our family were there for us. Although it remained dry, it was bitterly arctic cold. I have never felt so cold in my life. The service was all that could have been wished, a very competent lady vicar took the service and the church was full. It was out at the church at Winthorpe, just north of the town, but the cemetary was out beyond the church, almost in a field and Jim's was the last grave, furthest away and seemed an eternity to get to. I don't want to dwell on it any more, we have said our farewells and now he lives on in all our hearts and thoughts. The wreaths that our friend made were truly beautiful and did us proud among the other floral tributes. I'm not sure who wants to see them, but to be cautious, pm me your email and I send them on to you.
Frank, my dear buddy, sifting through the heap of emails waiting for my return, I was delighted to find the beautiful easter card by Jaquie Lawson in amongst my mail, Thanks so much for that. We didn't get back till turned 5pm and by the time we sorted out the case and all that jazz, had some eats Carmel just had to go to bed at 7.30 pm as neither of us has had much sleep in the hotel. It seemed a long drive back but our daughter is very careful and a hiccup in navigation taking us through Lincoln city at school knocking off time didn't help. But, hey we were all safe and sound and dry. I've loads of your posts to catch up on including Dermot's tales, which I'm looking forward to. So, just want to say thanks again, you folks are just too much, bless you all.

So glad Willilam and Carmel are home safely. All our thoughts have been with you both at this sad time. <3
Well it is bright out there but the wind is still biting and quite strong today.
The backs of my hands are like sandpaper with this cold weather I am having to put Aqueous cream on them as it seems the only thing that makes them softer.
Hope Chris is feeling a bit better today, Jane. Thoughts for Chester too. Did he leave his new food last night? and eat all the good bits?

Morning Pat/Mel one and all and Evening Kim
It's flipping snowing :-S.Nothing much just one of those quick showers I think. It is very dark and the lights are on.Lovely for a Good Friday :-| I think today is the day that all the rides open at Wicksteed Park.I doubt there will be much business there :-S
Chester has had more rice and turkey this morning and is now back in his bed.A sensible place to be today .I'm going to go to the pet shop and get a small bag of dry food (small bits) I think its called kibble. It might be easier to mix smaller pieces in with rice etc.Plus it should be easier to eat rather than the big bits he has here.
Max sounds very good Pat to put up with his collar.Does he ever try to get it off? I hope Millie's eye is still improving too Liz.
Chris is feeling much better after having a dose of the trots last night. It must have been one of those 12 hour bugs.Lets hope I don't get it before we go away.
I think I will have a coffee before I go out,and I must get some more Hot Cross Buns. The ones I bought for today seem to have vanished

HAPPY EASTER TO YOU ALL.
Morning everyone/evening Kim.
Glad you are home safe and sound Will. Take it easy this weekend, and gather your thoughts. Give Carmel a HUG from me. Not to tight it might hurt her lol lol
Mel, We are not doing anything today now. Conrad has so much work to do, he has asked that we put off going up till Saturday. Ros is popping out for an hour with Carolyn, I will play about on here.
Had a posting from Genes, telling me allsorts of things to do, but I got on first time this morning. So won't bother.
Lovely bright sunny morning here, but oh so cold. they say it could get down to minus 5 in this area tonight BRRR.
What time you off Jane, You might do better to buy a season ticket LOL LOL. It 's cheaper travel that way. Do hope you both enjoy your weekend, will James be at home to look after Chester??? Are you meeting up with Hannah ??? Nosey old Bugg## aren't I ???
I know how difficult it must be for you Jane, we pet lovers feel for you. There are times that I feel like going out and getting another, but at my age, the chances are they will outlive me, and who will take it then, so I think I will live with my memories. My old cat, still keeps popping in from the kitchen and bathroom. We didn't realise how much heat we save now that we can close all the doors, where as before they were all left open so he could come and go as he pleased.
Still a bit of snow left on the lawns, I am so pleased I mowed them a few weeks ago, it seems weeks and weeks ago now.
Have a good day, for those who are doing anything, otherwise stay warm.
