Mandy,I think I have it right now lol.He is definitely a Partner until September but just part time....He is going to be home now though a lot more than I am used too :-S :-S
Fitz made me laugh today when he said are we still going to have our lunches and cinema trips out.He was only kidding as he knows Chris won't mind at all.You never know Chris might join us lol
My Chicken Pox scar is like a crater too.I'm glad it is where it is.(hidden).I also have a crater on the top of my arm from the BCG jab I had when I was about 6months old.I think my Mum said that there was a lot of TB in Greenock (where I was born) so all babies had to be vaccinated .I can still put my finger in the 'crater' :-S

Maureen I will watch the programme tonight on Pompeii .I can't wait to see the exhibition .It has had some brilliant write ups from the Critics.

Evening All,

Many thanks for your ecard Frank....it was lovely and a reminder we should soon be getting warmth and sunshine!!! :-D :-D <3

Oh, the poor little girls with spots and ear problems. Little Katie must be itching all over with all those spots!! Your DIL will have to buy industrial size Calomine if the others get it too. I have a couple of scars from Chicken Pox on my face. I always remember my little brother refusing to get up and come downstairs when he had it. He was only about 3 and didn't want anyone to see his spots! I remember hearing him tell mum, 'I don't want spots on me'. lol He was a really sensitive little soul! :-) I was 18 or 19 at the time and my sister was about 9 and we had to pretend not to notice them when he did come down!! :-)

Poor Chester doesn't seem himself does he..........sounds like he would fancy your fish, but I suppose protein is something he can't have too much of to help his kidneys. It must be a worry. Glad you enjoyed the film........making me wish I'd gone to see it now!

My right heel has been playing up again. I think using the raised step on the wii has set it off now, so I'm leaving that off for a while. I've just looked up some special exercises to try that are supposed to gently stretch the ligaments so they will heal (if that's what it is!) I'll try that for a week or 2 and rest it more and if it's no better will go to the docs. I want it to be a lot better by the time we go to Cornwall!

OH pointed out the Pompeii programme to me today Maureen......so I will probably watch it.

How are the specs doing ladies? :-D OH was quite chuffed today when he realised now he's 60 he will not only get free eye tests, but 25% off his glasses as well!! He collected his first FREE prescription at the chemist this week! :-) I just checked that I got the 25% off mine........got a shock when I saw the full price would have been £389 and that was without any tints or the best lenses!! :-0

Morning All an d Evening Kim,

I just could'nt get on here last night at all. I knew if I posted it would come up so thats what I did hoping it might take me to the last page. It did'nt I just got the Error page so I turned the pc off.

Now I have caught up with the posts I had guessed from Mandy's email that little Katie had chicken pox. Poor little sole and it lasts about three weeks dos'nt it. My son had it when he was 18. When he was small everyone else in the class got it and also his cousins who we saw and mixed him with their children who ranged from a baby (who also got it) to one of 10. Son never got it, he even went upstairs with uncle Robin when we lived in the flat when he had it but no he did'nt get it then either. He waited till he was 18 and he was covered from head to foot nothing spared and he would lay on the lounge floor and moan.

Poor Chloe too with her ear infection. Son used to get those when he was young. They make them really miserable. Hope they are both better soon and can enjoy Easter anyway. I wish them lots of love and eggs.

Pat do you think you could delete all the eight spare posts please?

Travelling to school.

Exeter parents were stunned not long ago following the news that Devon County Council was to cut school bus services in the city. Hundreds of children could be left without transport & parents backed by teachers were up in arms. One concerned mother complained that her 10 year-old son would have to walk nearly two miles if his bus provision was withdrawn & she was anxious about his safety.

Two miles indeed! Poor lad! This report brought my mind back some fifty years where in the west of Ireland I walked five miles to junior school every day - hail, rain or snow. There was no bus provision in those pre-ipod years & I was lucky sometimes to have been able to cycle to school for a change. Of course, the schoolmaster came to school by pony & trap with a rug over his knees to maintain some comfort in the cold winter mornings - that was before he bought his shinny black Ford Popular.

Whether on foot or by bike, those few miles were sometimes fraught with dangers or so I thought. First, I had to get past Mick Lynch’s mule - a fearsome bad-tempered animal likely as not to throw a kick in my direction just for devilment. Why he was always on the road & not in his allotted field was beyond me. Mick Lynch only had the one small field so, I suspect, he encouraged his mule to partake of the grass verges - free gratis. They used to call that ‘the long acre’ - work that one out yourselves!

A bit further on was Murphy’s bull, grazing peacefully until he spotted me when he would half-raise his head, as if he was deciding whether or not to bother with me. Occasionally, he would then charge at me, frothing at the mouth & his hoofs pounding the ground.

I often thought he might jump the fence out onto the road but his massive bulk prevented him doing so. He really was a big fellow & was well respected by other farmers who would use his reproductive ability - for a fee, of course. He must be related to many young calves in the area.

Further along, there was an old empty house where poor men of the road took temporary shelter. I would tiptoe past, scared in case they might do some harm. See what a youngster’s imagination gets up to. And we know that nobody got up to any shenanigans in the pre-Savile era!

I remember well Dodd’s farm on the main road just the far side of the village because the Dodd family were well known in the horse breeding & racing fraternity. They kept a stallion plus a few mares & a donkey to keep them company. The stallion was a lovely proud animal & he would stand there tossing his head in the air & showing his teeth as if he was in a horse show. He really was the master. Sometimes, I would watch from a distance his handler exercising him. This was easily done by tying a long rope to the stallion’s bridle & allowing him to gallop in a circle. What a treat it would have been to be allowed to ride the stallion - a pipe dream of course. Youngsters always dream mighty dreams and why not!

These obstacles safely negotiated, there were still some unfriendly dogs to contend with. Of course, their barks were worse that their bites. On reflection, I can only remember once being nipped while cycling past Reilly’s house. His pet Irish Setter just liked to run & made sure that every cyclist going that way was accompanied for a hundred yards or so by him barking furiously. Poor old Mr Reilly would come out of his house waving his walking stick trying to pacify the animal but he might as well be shouting at the moon.

Come to think of it, I don’t remember pet dogs receiving any training in our part of the county.

Happy times, I think! What's more - old age has crept up on me like a thief & I'm now perfectly content to regularly use my senior citizens' bus pass these days - so there!

I have a wonderful picture now in my mind now Dermot of your journey to school :-D :-D.That would make a lovely little sketch for TV.

I was lucky enough to be able to go to the Comprehensive by School bus.My friend Anne would call for me and we would then have to walk to Wembury Post Office where everyone congregated.Every morning before the bus arrived our Headmaster Mr.Busby would sail past in his old Rolls Royce with his waxed moustache and give a regal wave !.Someone would be on the lookout for him and shout Busbys coming. We suddenly all became the perfect pupil standing quietly with no messing about. The moment he was out of sight all hell would let loose again, trying to get in position to get the best seats on the bus.It was always the older boys who got the back seat and they would bully anyone out of the way to get there. After a few minutes the smell of cigarette smoke would make its way through from the back lol. Some of us would be desperately trying to finish off homework that needed to be handed in that day.The bumpy lanes didn't help much with neat handwriting either.

I have to go now ...Vets :-|

How many times do you need to tell us PAT PAT PAT. :-D :-D :-D

What a job getting on here, I have written to genes, suggesting a refund of subs, if this carries on. It took me over TWO hours this morning. Whatever way I tried I got the error notice. That's why I never got back on last night.

Poor old Chester. I do hope they cay suggest a food that he can eat, that is easy to prepare, and not cost the earth. As a lot of these special foods do.

Dermot, It was certainly an adventure going to school as a youngster. I like you, never had transport apart from the old trusted bike. That was used quite a lot at senior school, but a lot of the time I walked with all my mates and girls across the allotments and the small bridge over the river, and up a long road to the school.

I actually slept from 1.00 am to 5.40 am last night. A good night for me. Roll on the weekend and lets get the clocks changed.!!!

We are going to Rutland an Saturday afternoon. Harvey , Julia and Lewis are coming Monday for the day, and we will bring Lewis back with us. Harvey was going to invite us down to his for Monday Lunch as he has bought a rib of beef . It's to big to go into their small freezer draw, so he is bringing it to Conrad's, It cost him over £50.00 Why on earth he needed to but a bit that big heaven known So now it will feed SEVEN instead of three, He has found a new butcher, and has to buy the best and dearest meats he has. HE MUST BE MAD. He paid over £100.00 for a large fillet of beef, for a beef wellington the other week. More money than sense. He regularly has dinner parties at home for friends, and they try to outdo each other with the main course.

Snow gradually going now. So lets hope the forecasts are wrong, and we start to see warmer weather .

Will minimise the thread, so I can get back on later. I HOPE.
