:-)HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CHRIS :-) for the big "60"!! Hope he is having a nice day and that you enjoy your meal together Jane. Won't be long before you can do this any day of the week will it!! :-D :-D

OH has just put a sack barrow thing together for his dad's 92nd birthday next week. He wants it for moving heavy pots about in the garden. We think it's daft for him to bother with the heavy pots with his back as bad as it is. They reckon the cats scratch up anything they plant in them and they aren't gardeners and never sit in the garden......but hey what do we know!! We are taking them out for a meal to our usual carvery tomorrow, but have got a table near to the carvery so they don't have to walk far.

OH has clerking work pouring in at the moment and is out most days this week. Because the councils are cutting the service in March, they don't have enough clerks to cover till then so are paying higher rates for people to cover extra meetings!

David, I think I have seen that pic too........always gives me the heeby jeebies......I have no head for heights!! :-S

Glad the floods are not a threat to you Kim. As you say, it is lucky you live where you do.

Ouch, that sounds painful to have done Pat!

Frank, do be careful, fancy the drain blocking now. Still, it would have been worse last week when it was freezing and snow everywhere. I hope you can clear it with the drain stuff. Are your neighbours drains ok?

Frank

Frank Report 29 Jan 2013 14:41

I have done a scan on the computer, and it found no end of bits, it has put them all in place and clearted the rubbish. I CAN NOW SEND EMAILS. A new daily batch is winging to you now !!!! Hope you enjoy them. :-D :-D :-D

Phoned Ros, she is bringing Tonic Water back with her. Might get a good night tonight. I feel DRAINED not ment as a pun lol lol

I hope you took a scarf with you Mandy. I think my hairdresser cut mine the shortest ever yesterday and I couldn't half feel the icy blast when I came out. I sat with my scarf piled up around my ears in the cinema after. I found the film heavy going to be honest, but OH enjoyed it as I thought he would.

OH has gone quiet.......probably snoozing!

Happy birthday to Chris hope you both enjoy your meal Jane, better not let him see the post from Frank, being elevated to such a high position might go to his head ;-)

They were some of the best jokes yet Frank, I couldn't stop laughing at the poem on poor Trevor's dilemma.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are squirrels rather than cats Ann, I've seen them in my garden scratching away in the pots, think they are actually trying to bury nuts, they buried a walnut once and it actually grew to about 3ft.

I must be a bit thick Shirl. only got a few of those questions right, then reading the answers, it was pretty obvious, which made me feel even thicker.

I also have a banjo in the loft which belonged to my Uncle Jim, he lived with us for more years than I can remember, he was such a quiet unassuming man made me wonder what on earth he was doing with a banjo never saw him play it.

Just seen your e.mail William, Mizpah sounds jewish, even if your mum didn't like the brooch the meaning behind it was lovely. Great photos although you probably know from the old saying ............red sky at night shepherds delight, red sky in the morning shepherds warning ....................that it wasn't going to be a good day.

I don't have to worry about a scarf Ann as the hairdresser comes to the house LOL
I have my hair cut every six weeks , she trims hubbys too :-D

William , i've never heard of a Mizpah Brooch, it does sound a bit Jewish, but how lovely to be given some thing with such a lovely meaning :-D what a shame your Mum didn't take to it .

Still quite windy here this evening , i thought it had calmed down !!

Thank you for your e-mails Frank and William.

Intermitent showers here.
Most of the scow and ice has melted.
So what did I buy in Blyth yesterday?
Yes, a snow shovel.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Jan 2013 18:39

David I bet it never snows again now you have the shovel!!

Yes those Mizpah brooches came in all sort of shapes and sizes.

I have a letter my dad wrote to mum when he was in the navy. It brings tears to my eyes when I read it.

Chilli for dinner tonight, nice and easy.

Frank Report 29 Jan 2013 18:51

Drains still blocked, water running into the gravel. in the drive.
Have put a bottle of gunge down, but hasn't seemed to have worked. Will try two others later with a bag of salt, it's an oped drain, so if it gives any gas's off, it will be well venterlated. My problem is that the drain is a small square one with the grate over, and you can't get a drain cane down it. I think I have an Auger somewhere in the garage, will try that on the end of the drill, if nothing else works.

Mandy, if you and OH want a drive out,he can try. I will make you a CUP OF TEA. But only if he clears it :-D :-D :-D :-D

Bit like shutting the stable door David.

Fine photo's Ann and Will.

What will you do with the broach Will.Pass it down the family ???

I wonder if Madam is over her lunch time drinkies, or is she in BED ???

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Jan 2013 19:21

Chilli tonight and I don't fancy it now. I have opened the tin of sauce and my tongue is stinging already. I've not put any fingers in my mouth !! It is just the smell of the chilli.

Hi folks,
Glad you liked the latest photos. Frank, your emails were real Brahams today, laughed my socks off.
I've had several ask me where the Mizpah brooch goes next. My Dad actually passed it to Carmel, I suppose that's how he saw the two of us, but it will next go to my daughter when anything happens to the both of us.
Mel, that's great you have that letter. I've got a postcard my Dad wrote to his parents when he was in the army. It's on the back of one of those 'Bubbles' postcards. It reads
Dear Mum & Dad, Just these few lines to let you know I am still A1, hoping you are the same. The weather has been grand, what is like there. Well, life is still the same here, hoping to hear from you soon (Loads of x's) I remain your loving son, Fred.
There is no date, stamp but it's addressed to them in Bermondsey. He probably sent it from Egypt or Inda inside another envelope by Forces mail. I'll tell about the one he sent Mum another time.
Well, the phantom has struck again here. Carmel has mislaid/lost/disappeared a WHOLE bottle of Difflam mouthwash! Prescribed at the hospital in December for her mouth problem, she was issued with two bottles, the first she's almost finished. Then this morning we had a search everywhere but no other bottle turned up??? Luckily, our dentist has issued her a prescription for another bottle so we can pick that up tomorrow. There must be a black hole in this house somewhere!
Not much on the box tonight, Carmel is soaping, the more 'arm-folding' in Holby, so we shall nit pick all the way throught that. Then it's Murder in Paradise'. I don't think this series has been as good as the last, maybe that's why I nod off to sleep. It doesn't seem to matter as it's a bit like Agagatha Christie, he just arrests someone and explains everything at the end. Do I sound cynical - yes, I AM cynical.

William oh won't watch anything like Miss Marple or any of the others as he sees they first bit and knows straight away who has done it. It makes me so cross sometimes.

Frank another good thing for clearing drains is a good amount of washing soda some bleach and boiling water. I do this down our shower drain sometimes as it has a sharp bend in the bottom of the drain and not a lot of fall on the pipe. In fact I do all the drains with this and then they smell all fresh again. Nothing like the old methods. You can stick all these new fangled washing and cleaning products. Our mothers never had them all just the basics.

William Report 29 Jan 2013 19:49

I've sent the postcard from Dad to Mum out by email, hope you all get it, it's real mushie - but nice.
