Jane Report 14 Nov 2012 15:54

Jane's been a busy gal in the garden battling with all the leaves, and out the front where the pavement and our grass patch was thick .It really is a thankless task :-S.More leaves coming down. There was a little Robin keeping me company in the front garden and poor Chester was shut in the back and was sitting by the side gate trying to keep an eye on me lol

So No Men visitors today. That is Saturday :-D.

Now it is time for a nice cuppa and put my feet up for a bit :-D

Not much cooking for me tonight as oh is going ringing and will have a crustless quiche when he gets in. That means I can have two nice boiled eggs and toast which I hav'nt had for a long while since he has'nt been out on a Wednesday night.

Next week he is ringing at Inwardleigh on Tuesdays again. He is taking me and I am going to have a meal in the pub with Mary who is mum to Ali who taught us to ring. She usually rings but has broken her wrist. It will make a nice change.

Frank .That is nice you enjoy the music on the radio .Unfortunately it is not my kind of music.I'm sure it suits you oldies more :-D :-D :-D :-D ;-) ;-) ;-)

Ann I remember the 'Rugged Rock' we would always roll our 'R's'.I must remind my sister about that one :-D........but it wasn't the ragged robin who ran....it was the ragged rascal (that was what we said).

Did Liz leave GR...or did she stay ,as we haven't heard from her for a while?

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 14 Nov 2012 19:04

Well I am home alone like Frank has been and it's lovely and peacefull without the blimmin telly on all the time.

Frank

Frank Report 14 Nov 2012 19:38

HERE HERE Mel, Ros got home about 4.45pm The first thing she did was put the BOX on. Then came on the computer to play cards. I said do you need this B#### thing on. She said yes, I don't like it quiet. So I offered to sing. :-D :-D :-D

Cheeky little blighter Jane, I just can't stand all this modern row. At least my old songs will go on forever where as this modern stuff won't be remembered next year.

I decided not to go out tonight. My left knee is killing me So I don't want to agrevate it by walking down the pub. So I am in my dressing gown, ready to watch the match down my end of the dinning room. I can watch a bit and do a bit on eBay

I think Liz decided to stay with us after all. but I know she is busy with other things. So perhaps won't be on as much as she use to.

I see Ros has bought a nice uncut loaf, so tonight I might have a nice bit of bread and cheese.

On Saturday Ros picked up a bsrgain of bargains. A massive bag of onions in Morrison# for a pound. She sent Conrad home last night with loads. We will give some to the neighbours, and still leave ourselves with a big tray full. We do eat a lot of onions, so they won't last that long.

Hope you enjoyed your day. <3 <3 :-D :-D Two big chickens sounds my cup of tea!!

Glad Carmel is a bit better William.......must be the TLC. :-) My OH always walks on the outside, holds doors etc. What is it they say.....'manners maketh man'.

Look forward to the photos Kim. Has she had her exam results yet?

David, I was amazed how many trades could be at risk. I hadn't thought of firemen or telephone engineers...or even handymen, car trade, jobs like that. OH has a letter he was sent telling him he was exposed to asbestos years after he worked in an office that was renovated while he was there.

Pat, glad you had a good holiday.........how was Mocha this time?

I remember my school rock cakes being ENORMOUS!!

We have caught our second mouse in the loft this winter. OH also found a dead one in the greenhouse, but it didn't look like it had been caught by anything.

Oh yes, the 'Ragged RASCAL' Jane!!

William, OH was told the 'Dark and stormy Night' one by FIL.

Frank, I like it quiet at home too. Luckily OH doesn't have the telly on much in the day........unless it's the World Cup!! Our tastes in music vary a bit too. He was in the bath earlier listening to Count Arthur Strong.....not my taste either! :-D

I have just renewed my suscription,I've been in two minds but decided to 'pay up' as it's good to chat! I've managed to contact a chap in Canada whose grandfather was a POW in the Far East with my stepfather!! unfortunately the 'grandfather' didn't make it, but I have been passed a lot of info which has been a real treasure trove! I'm with you Frank over the Telly!! We only have it on at lunch (news!) and then not again till 6pm (news-again!!). Too much TV makes me square eyed!! I'm afraid I listen to radio 4 quite a bit!! and as for music - again we both like folk music (I loved the Beatles, Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention.Chris deBurgh, Don Maclean etc) and, dare I say it classical music!! but there you go, takes all sorts!!!
Friends to stay tomorrow, first in our new house! Did you watch 'Paradise' last night Mel? Can't wait for the next series! Have been watching 'Hunted' too - has you on the edge of your seat that's for sure!!

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 14 Nov 2012 21:18

O good Liz is still with us. I thought she said she would stay but not pop in so much.

Liz I did enjoy the Paradise a lot and was glad to see series 1 written up somewhere so I just know there will be more to come. I can't stand that little miss upstart that John was going to marry. The only thing that has bugged me through the series is that her uncle made her a lovely new dress and never made himself a new waistcoat. You would really have thought he could have smartened himself up a bit.

I also like Sarah Lancashire and thought she took her part very well. I am dying to find out what went on in church with the bride turning up and not the groom. It was alright for her to go off with another man when she felt like it!!

William

William Report 15 Nov 2012 09:10

Mel, I'm also a great fan of Sarah Lancashire, I think she is a brilliant actress. She was so wasted as Rachel in Corrie, but I suppose that was the part - she played it. It's come back to bite me on the b*m! I believe there's trailers onTV at the moment that she is due to be in another drama soon.

Lily, I've said on here before that we don't watch much daytime TV either. I've always loved music - I say there's only two types of music - good and bad. But everyone has their own choice of what the above is, and I respect their choice. I've loved over the years (and still do) swing, jazz, big band, ballads, folk, choral, classics (should have done this alphabetical!) - and still do. I even like a lot of pop and rock, but I'm selective.
Over the years I've had a go (badly) at playing most things. Guitar, accordion, harmonica, trumpet, autoharp, Mum & Dad's old joanna, shrapnel ripped at the back as it was from being in the window during the Blitz!
I was a chorister in one of the local male voice choirs for years and had some great times with them. We would travel round, singing for charities, churches, working mens clubs, you name it, we did it. We even sang with an American womens choir and travelled up to Durham to sing again with them.
It was a great social life, we had holidays where we would all go away together, wives families and all. At home and abroad - Belgium, Spain etc. The biggest and best part was after the 'concerts' when we all got together for a 'pint' in the bar or whatever, and would spontaineously start old favourites, the ladies joining in as well. The 'locals' would stop what they were doing to listen and enjoy, it was a great atmosphere and I miss it.
My grandson has now become a chorister and is enjoying all the things I did, but sadly, choirs are not 'in' - and they, sadly, are finding difficulty getting choristers.

But take heart Lily, Steeleye Span (who I saw in Coventry) have made a new recording. I heard it by chance on the radio and couldn't mistake Maddie Prior's unique voice. Over the years I've seen the late Wally Whyton who used to do Folkweave on radio, the ill fated Sandy Denny of Fairport Covention, The Spinners, Ian Campbell Folk Group, The Dubliners (just avoided a punch-up at the bar on that one LOL) and magically, the Australian group, The Seekers - I think I was secretly in love with Judith Durham, who can still sing like a bird today. My daughter who lives out in the sticks, often helps with the hosting of the Cropreddy Folk Festival, set up and still supported by Fairport |Convention.

Blimey, don't I rabbit on!!

Gotta go, Carmel needs more TLC - C Y A L - have a good one if the fog clears . . .

Morn ing All and Evening Kim,

Cooo did we have a frost last night!! It has pnly just melted on the grass. I went down the garden at 1.30am last night and the hedgie food had gone but the sticks were still up on the hedgehouse so it was'nt that one. I had been going out there about every half an hour then watched a program on the pc and when I went out again it was gone.

Blow me! another expression dad would use or "Blow me down"

You could have blown me down with a feather.................

I wonder where that came from?

LilyL Report 15 Nov 2012 10:13

William, that was really interesting hearing about your time as a chorister
and that your grandson is following you! My late uncle was a chorister for one of the Oxford colleges (between the wars) starting when he was 8 years old and ending at 15 (voice broke) he played the piano at professional level, teaching music and drama for many years. I belonged to my School Choir all the time I was there including Chapel Choir, also played the piano (badly!) and was in our local choir in Wantage for years which I loved - I'm in the process of looking for something like that round here! I'd forgotten about the Seekers! Judy Durham certainly had a lovely voice. I'm afraid I'm not into pop music, or at least not very much - never have been!!
Sarah Lancashire was excellent as Miss Audrey, I've seen her in quite a few plays and she is a superb actress - I can't begin to contemplate how the Glendeniggs are going to react to being 'jilted'! worse than poor Edith in Downton!!!

Morning all/Evening Kim,

Not a nice morning, very misty, it's just starting to lift. Don't think we has a frost.

My music voice was none exsistant, they tried to get me to sing at school, but gave up. I would have loved to have played an instrument, but never had the chance of lessons.

Mel, You will have to keep an eye on who's eating the food ???

My bird feeding station is very busy this morning, the pigeons are under the seed picking up the dropped ones, the starlings are decimating the fat balls,.

Ros has gone to have her nails done this morning, so will be out a couple of hours.

I'm off for a nice shower, and relax with my book for an hour.
Just finished my book last night, so will have to find another I like, Only 840 to choose from !!!!

Frank, I am the same with Art, I would have loved to be able to draw and paint (Ian is brilliant!) but I was/am quite useless! unable to draw a straight line with a ruler!!!!! so can only appreciate it but not join in!! Mucky old day here, misty and cold! Talked to L this am, she is in MUCH better spirits and hopefully I should be getting some idea of who wants what (children) for Xmas!
She's appalling Mel, and I shudder to think what her revenge will be!!! I don't think we've seen the last of 'sinister' Jonus either - should be worth the wait!
News is on - the world's in it's usual cheerful state - Not!
