Yes I remember the sock suspenders but my dad never used them to my knowledge.
I did'nt realize that half the pig went to the government. I did know that a lot of people kept a pig during the war. No more mention about the rabbits on the program. We don't see too much of them eating their meals either. I always like to look at whats on the table and what they are using.
We have a machine something like the beet cutter but it is for grinding your own animal feed. I expect it has rotted away up in oh's yard up the top. May go and have a look another day and take a pic of it. We also have an old seed drill like they used on that farm. On two iron wheels with a big long box on it and the pipes that the seed runs down. Oh bought both at a farm sale just up the road when we were first together. Also have a parafin type incubator for eggs. My seed drill that you pushes along with a little hopper on top was pinched out of the potting sheds last year.

Ann, In the 50s it was the norm to wear those expending shirt armbands, and braces. I always tended to wear three piece suits, in Charcoal grey or navy blue..
Jane stress can play havoc with the body, as Chris will well know. If I get to hot, I tend to get very stressed. The heaing is on now and I am in my underpants, I am so warm. I think I will end up in the shower again before to long.
Did you see the News tonight. That house that had half of it washed away in the floods. Poor people.!!!
I'm watching football in between this posting. England are two up, and should be 10 up. They can't seem to score. !!!

Ooooerrr Frank, you must be hot!! ;-) We keep putting the heating on one minute and off the next. It's hard to get it just right this time of the year. I think FIL has some armbands that are like flat coils of metal wire stuff that expand......must have a proper look next time he wears them. He still wears a tiepin with the little chain on at times too like I remember dad wearing. Oh I do like a man in a well fitting suit Frank!! OH was always in suits for work since I met him in the 80s, sometimes 3 piece ones too. His were usually navy, charcoal or black, often with a faint pinstripe, being a civil servant (no bowler hat though!!! :-D) I know he was always a bit careful picking pinstripes as he would look a right spiv if they were too 'loud' ! I remember suits were double breasted with quite wide lapels when I met him and the trousers had turnups......were a pig to shorten if they needed it! lol He always wore Doc M*rtens too with the thick soles........lasted for ever.
Mel, it sounds like you could have the start of a museum at your place with the 'antiques' you must have tucked away! One of the things I spotted on the tables in the programme were the bone handled knives. I remember mum having those when I was little and that they used to come off! We had cream plastic imitation ones later too.
His lordship is calling me to go and watch Servants we recorded so see you tomorrow....... :-) :-)

Morning/Evening All I am up but not dressed yet.I will just chuck some clothes on to nip to Joan with her tablets and shower when I get back. It looks like it is a lovely morning.A definite nip in the air and a lot of dew on the grass.
I had lots of the bone handled knives and forks.I think they had belonged to Nana and then Mum.We also ended up with Chris's parents ones too.I sold them at a car boot.
Right I had better get myself dressed now(quietly) as Chris is still asleep.

Morning Everyone/Evening Kim.
Typiccal Autumn Morning. Heavy dew and sunfiltering through the clouds. Went to the freezer in the garage, and a good nip in the air.
Madam will be off to meet Martine shortly, so home alone again.
Ann, We were only aloud to remove our JACKETS in the office, when the MD came in the main office and anounced"GENTLEMEN YOU MAY REMOVE YOUR JACKETS" It was a very old CITY firm. All the three brothers who were the Direstors were always known as "MR. Freddie MrJames and Mr Eric. We all had to sign in in the morning in a register. At 9.30 exactley the Manager would draw a line across the page, and you had to give an explanation as to why you were late.
We still have some of those bone handled knives also loads of forks and spoons, I've sold some on eBay, but not many people want old cuttlery now. All the SILVER bits (sugar tongs mustard spoons)etc Conrad had, along with some big silver servers. Harvey had his pick also. We shill have a basket full in the garage.
I am having trouble with a purchase on eBay. The person has been trying to sell the same item to two people, but hasn't deliverd to either. Conman comes to mind. I have opened a case with eBay, and now awaiting the outcome. I would love to get my hands on the toerag !!!!
Are you dressed now Jane or still running around in your PJs ???? Ros will often do her housework, ironing, etc before getting a shower and dressed. Sometimes it's after midday.
No football on at lunchtime, so won't go down the pub, will sit and read my book instead.
Jane, on your kindl# now you will have the DCI BANKS books by Peter Robinson. Worth a read, if you like to imagine being there. I am on my forth on the trot. Hope I can find other books to attract my imagination. Some I only read a few pages and feel I won't get into that !!!!
Breakfast now, and more tea. then shower and shave, and settle down with my book. NO BL###Y Television on.
Pat. You can only hope for a drying wind, then you can tackle the lawn. It also helps if you have a rotary mower, it doesn't tear at the grass so much.
See you all later.

Morning All and Evening Kim,
Nice sunny start but then showers. We have been watching a deer out the back again this morning and oh has some nice pics he took with my camera. He did a viseo in the end and then came in. I was having a ciggy outside and out popped a little one obviously looking for mum. Oh came back out with the camera but frightened it away and he only got one shot of it before it ran up the grass pathway in the field behind us. He also took a pic of a rainbow hitting our south wall.
Hav'nt been up the shop yet and hav'nt had breakfast so I think that is next on the list and take my pills.

Oh Poo! The sun has gone and it is just grey cloud now. I sat with Joan for a chat..........MY can she talk lol.We watched the squirrels playing in her garden, and she showed me her cooker which is on the blink (literally ) when she turned it on all lights started flashing and she has no power in the main oven. She has a new cooker being delivered on Friday. It have offered to do any cooking for her here but she says she will be fine as long as she can use the hob.I hope she remembers to keep the main switch on the wall OFF when she isn't using it.
I am waiting to use the shower (Chris is hogging it).It is his turn to walk Chester today :-D

The sun is now coming out again :-D.I think Chris is going to have a bonfire but it is far enough away down the garden it should be safe for me to hang out washing.
Now for that shower and hairwash.I'm still scratching :-S

Jane, I must say that when I read your posting, I started scratching my head. Ros asked me if I had anything wrong !!!
Had a funny dream last night. I had a big handful of sausage meat, which I kept rolling around in my hands. I went into a bank, threw it in a pile on the counter. Did my business, didn't have any on my hands. Then I tried to pick it off the counter and it was everywhere, customers were complaining about it. I said "It's only sausage meat, it won't harm you" What was I thinking of ???
Mel, how nice to have your deer back with the baby. Has the orchard gone back to normal now ???
We have a lot o black clouds over here now Jane THANKS< !!!!
Have had to put my book on charge, so I think that might be an excuse to go for a pint or two. !!!!

I had to laugh at your sausage dream Frank, :-D especially the bit about doing your business in the bank :-D :-D LOL
We're off to sister's tonight poor BIL is still feeling sick ,but the good news is he has a lovely bend now to the knee and i think he's now using sticks .

Afternoon all.
Sunny showery & cool here. Didn't sleep so well lst night, then this morning Carmel woke me for a cup of tea; Bleary eyed, I said to her "It's only 10 past 7" to which she replied, half asleep - "Oh, is It, I can't see the clock properly and I thought it was 8.10!" I made the tea anyway, seeing I was awake by then...
Frank, I had those expanding armbands for years and years. I'm a bit short in the arm anyway and only possess 2 long sleeved shirts now (for 'special' occasions. Like my Dad before me, I hate anything on my arms (except a cardi) and being a bit short-armed anyway, most normal shirts hang down over my hands. So, the good old shirt armbands were a blessing to me. I had a lot of long sleeved shirts at one time, but when I retired from work, I had them all altered to short sleeves. I can't understand how young peoplethese days have various garments hanging right down over their hands, it would drive me daft.
We had a good nights entertainment last night instead of the 'footie' I'd bought a Strictly DVD in a charity shop for a £1. last week.I put that on around 8pm and we finished watching it around 11.15 pm. It was great entertainment, much more than you get on the TV shows. It was the end of the 2008 tour finishing at the NIA at Birmingham. By the finish we felt we'd actually been out for a good night on the town.

Afternoon All,
Frank, what a weird dream? I have some strange ones, but don't seem to have many. See what it says here about sausage dreams.....oh my word.....not really the same as your dream but might make you smile. :-)
http://www.dreamomania.com/dreamdictionary/food/sausage_meaning/
I never slept a wink last night and what a long night it was. I got up and got a cup of tea at 4.30am having tossed and turned for hours.I think it is OH's parents that are worrying me and their refusal to make adjustments for the future to make things easier for all of us. OH says it is their own fault and I shouldn't be fretting about it because they aren't. I know he is right, but I dread the stress of having 1001 things to try and sort at once if there is a crisis. OH is in Colwyn Bay today at a match. I turned down his offer to take me as last time I went it was cold and not enough shops to keep me occupied! His team and club are not doing well at all this year.
I have been finishing my necklace this afternoon and it's sod's law I was just fixing the LAST bit and the fishing line I was using cut through with the pliers......START AGAIN!! :-| It happened in class yesterday and the teacher's example broke to!! I'm using much thicker thread, it's no good doing it with the same if it falls to bits in 5 minutes. I just wish these things happened at the 'start' instead of the 'finish!!!' lol :-S
Mel, it seems quite late for baby deer now, hope he is in good shape for the winter.
Jane I often don't get dressed till I've done some of the indoor jobs too, especially in the summer. It always seems daft to have your shower then get hot and bothered straightaway doing jobs. I bet your elderly neighbour enjoyed having a chat!! Her cooker sounds as if it is best left alone. :-0 I had to smile at the thought of Fitz hopping in and then straight out of his cold shower and into his cold bathroom! lol I bet a few glasses have been warming him up!
Mandy, at least it is good your BIL is able to get a good bend to his knee and I suppose the sickness will gradually pass. What a shame your OH losing his phone numbers. I think that happened to me once and I swore at the time I would keep a written list as well.....which I never have got around to. :-S

Well it has been sun and showers today but mostly bright so that was'nt too bad.
Glad you liked the lizzard pics.
I hav'nt sone anything today and now I am cross that I just mucked about doing nothing.
Chilli tonight, nice and quick. We had the nice pie from the shop at lunchtime. Pork, ham and chicken with cranberries. It is very tasty and I had done some homemade soup with the left over of yesterdays casserole, a tin of veg soup and a packet of french onion soup. Added the rest of the baked beans I had on toast the other night and have now enough left for tomorrow if oh wants any. If not it will do for Monday lunch.
I will try and send the deer from this morning but it may be tomorrow now as I have just seen the time!! My watch stopped last night and I don't know where I am today.
