Morning all/Evening Kim,
My you have been busy since I posted yesterday.
I saw DEVON on the news last night. OMG did you have some rain down there Mel. I thought there was a lot around you, but not as much as that. Tell OH it's all his fault Peeing in the orchard. He eaised the water level :-0 :-0 :-0
Yes Jane, Some of the old Musical acts, would do the rounds around the theatres. STRATFORD Eeast London, had many from the west end and when M & D could afford it they would take us there. It was where the BIG ORGAN would come out of the floor and the Organist played in the interval.
Mandy, If I had kept my evacuees cloths. Jake could have had them, and saven you all this work. Don't forget the grey flanel trousers that went passed the knees !! and the long grey socks, and hob nailed boots. The little grey cap. The gasmask case was carboard with a little plastic strap that went over your shoulder. Are you goling to make him a "SPAM" sandwich whapped in brown paper. to eat on his travels ??? :-D :-D :-D
When we arrived at our "DIGS" we were given CLOGS to wear. I still think they had a lot to do with my bent toes ;-) ;-) ;-) All nobbles.
It's a great morning here now, very cloudy first thing, now wall to wall sunshine.
The neighbour has a workman next door, doing something in his lounge, all we can hear is the hammer and drill. It drives you mad.

Back from the docs and less a bit of blood. I can't say an arm full as the nurse had a job to get any out on the last one but said it was enough. Tried my arm first again and I told her to do the vein in my hand. It ended up there with a butterfly thing needle where you can see your blood go down the little tube. When it came to the last one she wiggled the needle about to try and get a better flow but that did'nt work. I am going to have a luverly bruise on the back of my hand AGAIN. It takes over a week to go usually.
Oh did'nt really p in the orchard yesterday it was a jopke because the orchard was flooded. I am always telling him he has a 10 gallon bladder.
Just having a nice cuppa but think I will wait till lunch to eat as it is not long away now.
I have lost 2lbs this week being quite good. I qwonder if I can do it again next week?? :-D :-D :-D

What a good idea having the children re enact the past, they learn much more that way than sitting in the classroom with a teacher droning on. You've got off quite light Mandy with a tank top, my grandson went on a Hampton Court visit years ago and we had to make this hat and tunic from Henry VIII's time, at least we had a picture to go by.
I've enjoyed all those Farm programmes, you're right Mel, can't see where they can go from the Wartime Farm.
Giving the house a bit of a clean, daughter will be here tomorrow for the weekend, will be nice to spend some 'just the two of us' time.

Well, I've succummed and bought a dishwasher!! all plumbed in and ready to go!! My back isn't all it might be and hanging over that sink does make it ACHE!! Yes, I've decided not to renew my sub this time, at least for a while, I've got very tied up with a Dutch friend helping him with his book about the air crashes in his area during the war, doing bits of research and helping him with his english, which although good is sometimes a bit difficult to completely understand - grammar can get a bit odd, and spelling is a problem as so many of our words are spelt differently to how they sound and there is a small matter of 'to' too' and 'two'!!!!! which about sums it up! All this is pretty time consuming, and as I've got as far as I want to with my tree, I shall now give Genes a rest for a while. I would still like to keep in touch through email now and again - I don't want to completely disappear!!

That will nice to have girlie time with your daughter Maureen :-D.Will you be doing anything ?
Shirl ,that's good not to have to your heating on yet :-D Ours is on ,but I keep turning it right down as I get to hot ,then Chris comes in and says this house is freezing and turns it back up again :-S
It turned to be a lovely day after all ,lots of sun and just a couple of spits.I have been cleaning windows :-S I just popped down to my elderly neighbour(91 with 2 new knees) to remind her I will be going to her every morning from tomorrow for the next week to give her her medication and see if she needs anything. The lady who normally does it is off on holiday.Joan is an amazing person. She still does her garden in all weathers, but her memory is not so hot which is why she can't be trusted to take her pills correctly . I must remember in the morning though that I said I would go between 8.30 and 9.
Dinner tonight for Chris and me is one of the M&s dine for 2 ones.So dead easy :-D Another one for tomorrow as well :-D :-D :-D
Jo's funeral is not going to be until after the 28th of Oct and it will be in London.I think the reason for the wait is because there are people from America who want to come.I will probably go with Hannah.I will get the train to London and Hannah will meet me at the station .I don't know where the funeral is taking place yet though.
Mel. Fitz is a bit of a plonker when it comes to working out electrical things like boiler switches etc .But and when his son and girlfriend got there on Wednesday they would have got things working. No doubt I will hear all about it next week when he is back.

Mel, I have sat and watched Wartime farm this afternoon. Is it the one where they made roof tiles etc ??? I enjoyed it very much. I didn't know about the fires they use to light to distract the German Bombers. We had a Mangle and sink exactly the same as in the opening bit. Certainly takes your your mind back.
And as for the Evacuees, what can you say. I didn't go off during the Blitz, We stayed at home with Mum. but my brother Bill did. He went to Northampton aged nine. We all went away in 1942 to Bacup, Lancs. Those memories will haunt me till my dying day. !!!!
Very strange sky over here this afternoon. Sky is as black as thunder. NO RAIN but a beautiful RAINBOW. It even went through the BLUE SKY. Really don't know what it is going to do now. :-S :-S :-S
England play tonight. I am not sure if I want to go to the pub or stay in and watch it in the Conservatory. I have a few beers in !!!!
Try to pop back later.

Think we are going to the Albert & Victoria Museum Jane, then lunch somewhere and come back here, wine is already in the fridge :-D
I think that episode was a few back Frank, they were saying this time about having to resort to children helping the farmers and Alex and Peter made some kind of makeshift room out of straw bales as during that time their own rooms would have been taken up by land girls. I shall miss it when it finishes which must be soon as they are up to about 1943 now.

Evening everyone,
First thing this morning it was very wet here ,and it got harder as the morning went on , now we have some lovely sun shine .
Frank i wonder if Jake will be given spam sandwiches as he doesn't have to take his lunch with him , i can see him coming home hungry as he's the fussy one to feed !! he's going to wear his grey school shorts, they come down to his knees :-S Yes Shirl , i'll get son to take a photo ,and he has got a parcel tag for his name .
The top is coming along nicely , i've finished the back already will get a bit more knitted this evening .
Have a lovely weekend with your daughter Maureen , how long now till you go on holiday ?

Sorry if I have made you all scratch :-D..No. no different shampoo Mandy.I think it is stress !!!!!.My scalp comes up in red bumps .(not all over ) but just in the same places each time.It is probably all to do with the situation here (damp, floor, dust and muck) and also all that is happening with Janice re Jo's death and how My Nephew will adapt to being a single Dad.Up until now he has only had William for a few hours at a time .So I think reality will be kicking in now and he will be very scared.
I better go and start putting something in the oven .I think we will be eating at 8

Evening All,
Yes, we have enjoyed Wartime Farm too and learned quite a lot we never even thought about like that a Policeman had to be there when you slaughtered a pig and that half went to the government. I remember as a little girl seeing a contraption on the farm opposite where we lived, but I never knew it was a beet slicer until I saw the programme which has been a real eye opener. We have been enjoying the Servants programme too........so many social 'levels' whether you were up or downstairs. lol.
Mel, maybe that extra 2 pounds you lost was keeping you warm too! :-D I will have to have one of those fasting blood tests next month as part of that study I joined, boy do I hate that L*cozade! The floods were dreadful in Devon weren't they? Glad I wasn't in Clovelly. I don't know why MIL doesn't like Lavender, doubt she knows it is antiseptic though.
Liz, you won't regret having the DW.......ours only goes on every other day and I love the fact that you can stick the dishes straight in and have tidy worktops. It will give you more time to help your Dutch friend. :-)
Hope you and your daughter have a nice time together Maureen........sounds like you are all prepared with the wine chilling already! :-D
What a good idea for the children to learn about things like that Mandy.....much more meaningful to them. My word you ARE a quick knitter, half done already. You have reminded me how in the 50s the men's trousers were really high and the pullovers quite short with a lot of pattern! FIL still wears those elastic armbands on his long sleeved shirts......also his braces at times. I can remember laughing at dad's sock suspenders........remember those!!
