Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 19 Oct 2012 10:38

Morning one and all and evening Kim,

It is surprising how much better one feels when the weather is more clement. Yes just about to put the washing on the line because it is dry again.

Thanks for the acknowledgeing the hawk emails.

We had a new kleeneze man last year and whereas our old one used to come a couple of times in the year this one we hav'nt seen since he was introduced to us by the old man. He called this morning and left us the Christmas book. I think thats a bit cheeky really as I have been wanting one of those things you wash your bras in. Zips have gone on my other two.

Poor Joan I do hope she gets used to her new cooker quickly. I am still struggling with my old one but think the time has come to have a good lok around. Oh wanted me to have a dual one with a gas hob and electric oven but I have never cooked on gas since school days. Plus the fact we would have to have those red gas bottles somewhere as there is no gas around here.

Yes, I'm still her Frank, till the end of the month. I'm with you Jane on the Xmas present front! We don't even give to each other any more not even for birthdays! We try to get something we both like, like a picture or ornament, an extravagance that we wouldn't normally buy. I only get presents for the children, for the other three it's just a token gift - 'a bit of nothing' as my mother used to say! Lovely day here, not as sunny as yesterday, but good for a walk.

Frank

Frank Report 19 Oct 2012 11:17

Morning all,

Jane, you should get James up on the unit to clean above them. He's a lot younger and agile than you. !!!

What's this thing you wash your bra's in then Mel, Most people use a washing machine :-D :-D :-D They can't be that big, that you need a seperate utensil !!!

Bottled Gas would be very expensive, so I can understand you like your electricity. We have a gas hob and Electric oven. Ros is talking about replaceing them this year. But apart from the rubber round the glass inner door has fallen out. I can manage with it. She never (WELL HARDLY) uses it, apart from cake making. So I don't see the sense in spending the money.

Jane it must be a shock for Joan, to try to understand all the new fangeled knobs and dials on a new cooker. It would be bad enough for a youngster like me. !!!

Dull old morning here also, Dry and no wing, that makes a change.

Hope Mocha is a bit better today. Keep him away from the conkers.

Shower and shave time. Then await the trip to the doctors. I know she's not looking forward to it. The doctor said "Don't worry I will put a couple of stitches in it" I'm sure that helps :-0 :-0 :-0

Poor Ros I am thinking of her this morning and sending positive thoughts. Hope it is not too painfull for her during and afterwards.

What I have Frank is a zip up shaped bag with stiffened side (three of them) that I put my bras and then zip it up because they have an underwire in them which can get pulled out during washing in the drum with the other clothes. I have even had one wire get stuck in the holes in the drum and it was the first time I had washed it so that was £20 down the drain as it were.

It's not the expense Mel, just time consuming when I should be doing other things! I'm pretty tied up elswhere, and have now started some historical research, all to do with England's relationship with France in Medieval times!!!! leads you straight onto the Tudors, who also take a bit of unravelling!! I'm spending too much time on the computer, so something has to go!

Well what a miserable afternoon, its been dull and raining since lunch time.

Frank, hope all went well for Ros this morning and that she's not to sore and uncomfortable .

Lasagne for us tonight with Garlic bread !!

Jane

Jane Report 19 Oct 2012 17:20

Afternoon all .
Frank I hope Ros is not too sore after her procedure this morning.
Mel I was wondering about what you washed your Bra's in too.I can't wear Wired Bras.Just too uncomfortable for me ,especially when the wire digs in under the armpit :-S
Mandy. Jake looked brilliant in his 'kit'.I hope he had a great day and that the weather wasn't too bad .
It has just started that horrible heavy drizzle here :-S
Liz it sounds like you are turning up some interesting things in your research .Medieval /Tudors ..exciting things I hope :-D

I went up and stood on the work tops this morning .......my go* you wouldn't believe the grime and grease !!!.I could only clean the top of a couple of cupboards as I started getting a bit dizzy and couldn't stretch any further. The poor dog was getting so freaked out with seeing me up there he was grabbing all his toys and shaking the living daylights out of them.Stressed or what!!!!!.I will have to do what Frank suggests and get James or Chris to do the rest.I just can't do it :-| :-|

Fitz has been and has been given the all clear (except for a chest MRI) they missed the chest out apparently on his last one .So he just needs that doing .But it all sounds good.

:-D :-D
We had another look through Lottie's Autograph Book and Fitz spotted something.
Beecham's Opera Company.Signature by someone called Bettina Freeman who was a well known Opera Singer.Fitz being 'musical' recognised the name Beecham. He was a Conductor and Fitz's father was somehow connected.
This Auto graph book is getting more and more interesting :-D

Getting back to the H*rvesters again. Carmel & I were chatting about them last night when I remembered something else. When my daughter married (& was working at the Nuneaton branch) they had their wedding reception at the one at Guys Cliff, Warwick - The Saxon Mill. There was a private room on the ground floor and it was really great. They were married at the church in Kineton, where they had their cottage (never 'live on the premises' if your in that business!) and they had an old 1920's car for their wedding car. On the way from Kineton to Guys Cliff, the old cars radiator boiled over and we all had to pull in at a village garage while it cooled down and they got more water. Ah, well it all adds to the event as they say. At about 25 mph, there was a real convoy on the road and we were far from popular with other motorists!

Carmel has been out for a bit of shopping with me today, first time out this week. To say she's a bit pooped is an understatement. So it's boring fish for dinner tonight. I've drunk all the Banks's bitter so it's back to a J*O spritzer with my meal.

Frank

Frank Report 19 Oct 2012 17:56

Late afternoon from me.

Sorry Mel, I have heard of those bags, was trying to be funny :-D :-D

Everything went well for Ros. The nurse called her in so I stayed in the waiting room. She said that the doctor said you will feel a small prick. She didn't feel a thing and had taken the piece out before she knew it. THREE stitches, which will have to come out Monday week. and the results should be back in about three weeks.

We went to a dinner (PUB) 2 for a tenner, plus drinks, I had a couple of Old speckled hen ans was ready for the armchair when I got home. No such luck had those phone calls again. One said "GOODBYE" they are just checking the time you are home. The other was Asian. I said I will go and get Mr Bedford. and put the phone on the table. Went back 5 minutes later and the phone was dead, and I didn't loose my RAG.

The day never got bright, a fine drizzle this afternoon and almost dark now. Not a lot to look forward too, is there????

LilyL

LilyL Report 19 Oct 2012 18:54

No,just the obvious Shirl. I've always been very interested in history, that, and English Literature/Language, were the only subjects that I was interested in,and therefore the only ones I did reasonably well at!!! I tend to read about a particular era and then find that I want to know more about that period, from every aspect - general public/ ruling classes. everyone! It is time consuming but really rewarding.

Jane

Jane Report 19 Oct 2012 18:59

Yes Shirl it was Thomas Beecham.( I think I had actually heard of him ) :-D
Frank ,that's good it was not traumatic for Ros today.I'm sure she might be a little bit tender ...so keep your hands to yourself :-D :-D ;-)

Chris just called to say he will late home and can we eat about 8.30 :-S

LilyL

LilyL Report 19 Oct 2012 19:37

Sir Thomas Beecham was a conductor of great renown. I saw him in 1958 at The Royal Festival Hall - he was pretty old by then but brilliant. He founded the London Philharmonic along with Sir Malcom Sargent, to have him in your autograph book Jane is a real coup!!!

Jane

Jane Report 19 Oct 2012 20:05

Liz ,it is not Thomas Beechams autograph but someone called Bettina Freeman who was obviously with Beecham's Opera Company. There is quite a lot about her on the internet.I think the autograph was 1911.

We had mixed pasta with mushroom toms leek and cheese sauce with chopped turkey ham added too and garlic bread. I had'nt got anything out the freezer and did'nt fancy much but after I served it up I throughly enjoyed it.
