Mel it's such a shock when things fall of the wall. We have TWO very big hunting sceen prints on the dining room wall. We say one evening in the lounge, and one of these came tumbbling down the wall behind the table. No breakage, but the twine had rotted on the back. I went out and bought picture hanging wire, and fitted them with that. No problem since.

Run our of Beer thats not good. I have been a very good boy. When I have it in the house I drink it (that's what it's for) but now I try only to drink when I go out. which is usually one a week on Saturday to see the football. Now in the evenings I drink a couple of cans of Coke. With all the tablets I take I suppose it's the best thing.

I am trying to buy a National Service Medal. I had one when I came out of the RAF but with the moves and divorce, it's been lost. It will be something to pass onto Lewis. I have also been looking for Royal Navel Medals that my Dad had from the first WW. but can't remember the exact ones he had.

I must get in touch with my Daughter to find out where my Grandsons are living now. It would be nice to make contact after all these years. I believe one or possible two are in Afganistan, I don't know about the third.

A man has just called at the door selling a load of garden furniture all made in teak and no nails, all dowled. He is closing down in Okehampton and going back to Glouscester where he lives. He sold us a Lutens bench for £250 and threw in a folding coffee table with it. The benches normal price is £670. We sent him on to the big house up the road.

Afternoon all

Kim that sounded like a lovely Birthday Supper for Joel.Good that you managed to eat drink and be merry too :-D
I have been down the road at a friends this morning and have only just got in.We got nattering over coffee and the time just went on without me realising how long I had been there. The old lady next door to her is 91 and she had been out with the electric hedge trimmer trying to reach the top of a large bush.Apparently my friend just happened to look out of her window and saw (Joan ) jumping with the trimmer swinging it about to try to get it to reach it.This is the lady who had both knees replaced recently !!!.My friend ran out and did the job for Joan ,and then noticed the trimmer smoking :-0.I think she took it away from Joan as she has memory trouble and would be quite likely to have another go :-S :-S.She is an amazing Lady and always happy and smiling.I am taking over keeping an eye on her and taking her her meds when my friend is away on holiday during October.

Now I am starving so will grab some lunch. It is nice and bright at the moment .I'm just debating whether to hand out some washing. It is very breezy so should dry quickly as long as the rain holds off.

Afternoon everyone,

Lovely day here , i did two loads of washing and its all dry , just got Toby's bedding in now ,might be time to hang it out and get dry ,there's quite a wind !!

BIL came home yesterday , his knee is very swollen but he's doing his exercise's as best he can ,when you think what he's gone through these last few months we think he's doing well.

Kim, glad the birthday went well and you managed to enjoy it , look forward to seeing the dress ,that teal blue is a pretty colour.

You sound as if you are going to be really cosy in the log cabin this winter Liz, i can just picture it when its snowing all white and glistening and whispy smoke coming from the chimney :-D
Hope you have some luck with the dishwasher hunt !!

Mel, you got a bargain with the bench and the free table thrown in too, those benches are the ones that have that raised up back aren't they ?

Has any one heard from Shirl lately ?? been awhile since she's posted .

Frank, if you get your National Service medal will you let me know the whys and wherefors. I never got the medal when I came out of the RAF and as you say it is something nice to pass on. I presume you got the MOD veterans enamel badge which is free of charge to those who have served in the armed forces. I wear mine and my RAF enamel badge when we go the Novemeber 11th armistice parade service at the cenotaph here in Bedworth. I've also been known to wear my old RAF cap badge embeded in my trilby. The Ghurkas are stationed at Gamecock Barracks near here and they take part in the parade and what a brave and smart crew they look. The Dakota sometimes flies over and drops poppies when the weather is suitable, which it rarely is.

My Dad got a civil medal for working continuous shifts at a vunerable location (Stratford railway works in East London) all through the war. A veteran soldier of 7 years in the Buffs, he would have liked to enlisted for the war but was pronounced too old and in a 'reserved' occupation. I never did find out where that medal went.

I know all three of my uncles were decorated for service in the first world war but I guess the medals went to their families. I do hate it when I see medals and blood donor pins being sold off in charity shops and car boot sales. We went into our local Sally Army charity shop one time and there were three family bibles on the tables for sale. They all had old family records written in the front, how sad is that.

Maureen

Maureen Report 25 Sep 2012 16:10

Perhaps there was no direct family left to inherit the bibles William, our family name won't carry on after my brother, he is the last line of Pollendines from our branch.

I would never buy anything electrical from Te**co Liz, just my experience and what I've heard from other people they are the worst I've ever known for replacing faulty goods. Others may have had a better experience of course.

That brought tears to my eyes Mandy, your poor OH with the super glue, mind you it is very handy stuff, there would have been loads of things I would have had to replace if it wasn't for super glue.

Good to see you Kim, it's nice to get out and let your hair down sometimes even if you do pay the price the next day. Did I miss a post, what is Miranda's dress for, is it a formal at her school.

Had an e.mail from Shirl. she's fine, her Monsters are keeping her busy, son is back on track too.

William, I have forwarded details for the National Service Medal. There are a few on eBay. I didn't get the MOD badge, but I have applied for one TODAY thanks.
I wish I had kept my Badge and belt brass's they werre the most "Bulled" in the sqn. The brass's were flattened at the corners, so when you put a drop of brasso on a piece of cardboard, you could buff away, and boy did they look good. I might buy a hat badge just for a keep sake.

We have just has the most horendous storm. It was as though someone was throwing buckets of water at the conservatory, you couldn't see down the garden.

Thanks for that Mandy, I went to Swindon and the selection was very poor,so I buzzed off to Currys (again!) good selection but they weren't sure when they could deliver!! tried Comet which didn't have ANY slimlines!! gave up and came home! might not bother, there's only the two of us most of the time,so washing up isn't that arduous any more! have to have another think! It's now raining hard and blowing!! M coming to see us on Friday, he's going to give OH a hand with the outside painting!! (If it ever stops chucking it down!) He seems so willing to help us these days - it's really brilliant.

Frank I just got caught in that!!!!!! Luv a Duck it was bad.I had just arrived at Tesc* and the Thunder,Lightening,Hail ,Rain just errupted.I managed to shelter a trolley bay with several other people. It was quite cosy lol.

Mandy are you collecting the Tes** vouchers for the Cutlery?I just bought 2 of the 4piece table sets.It looks really nice.

Liz I don't know what I would do now without a dishwasher.Ours gets totally full by each evening.

I'm so glad we aren't on holiday in Northumberland this week.We certainly wouldn't have managed to take the train up the East Coast to Edinburgh.
I think I can still here some thunder rumbling somewhere :-S

I think there are more of you in family than us Jane. I know when M and L were at home or came home more often + friends! I would have felt the same, but now we're on our own most of the time, and Ian is very good both with the cooking and with helping to clear up, I'm not sure that we really need one. Have to see! tonight it's a caserole in the crock pot with dumplings - should be good!

No sign of any storm here ,its been a really lovely day , i had the back door open for a while this afternoon it was quite warm .

Jane, i went to Tes*o's this morning ,and they asked if i was collecting the vouchers , i said yes ,but i didn't really know what they were for until i saw cutlery on the front of the voucher , next time i go in i'll have a look at it , although to be quite honest i have a whole box of good cutlery in the cupboard that i only use at christmas and a drawer full of what i call every day cutlery so i don't really need any more .
Would you like them if i don't ?

Our dishwasher is full every day , i load it twice on the day the family come , i would certainly miss it .

Jane

Jane Report 25 Sep 2012 19:08

Oh Yes Please Mandy :-D.I have a best set in a nice canteen (they used to belong to Chris's parents. But I just use them on High Days and Holidays. Our everyday cutlery is fine but the handles are getting a bit wibbly wobbly :-S

It's good that your BIL is home now.He sounds like he is doing really well :-D
Janice still struggles with her leg.She gets good days and really bad days.
I think she is coming to stay with me on Saturday until the Tuesday. She just needs to get away and have a breather and recharge her batteries. She does so much for all her family and never gets a moment to herself. So it will be great to have a few Sister Days together again. :-D.

Mel ,that was a good deal on the bench, plus a table too :-D

Anyone watching the new programme tonight......The Paradise? I think that is what it's called.

William

William Report 25 Sep 2012 19:46

Thanks Frank, I've emailed you seperately. Glad you are going to get your MOD badge. The RAF cap badge I have now isn't my original one, it's one a pal obtained for me gratis, but is of the right era. My original cap badge was so worn with polishing, you could have had a shave with the edges of it! I think if I hadn't got demobbed when I did it would have disintergated if I'd have polished it much longer. Happy days. It was like my beret, I used the pull the top down so hard over the badge to make it look real smart that eventually it started breaking through the material. Again, I just made it to demob before I had to go to the clothing stores and get another one.

Morning and Evening All,

Raining here today but with a few bright spells here and there.

I had to laugh at "Luv a duck" My nan used to say that and my too. I hav'nt heard that for a while now.

I had a catchy thumb nail last night and nibbled the catch off and it has lodged itself on the back of my tongue. Had a drink and cleaned my teeth and tongue last night but it is still there today. Shall try a bowl of cereal next and see if it goes then. It is really annoying.

Hope you enjoy the film Jane and how is Fitz at the mo?

LilyL

LilyL Report 26 Sep 2012 12:10

Really Frank! you are dreadful! I haven't heard that for ages but it still makes me chuckle!! Not TOO bad a day here, sun a bit in and out, I feel so sorry for all those people who have been affected by the rain, it must be just awful to have your home flooded - got a lot to be thankful for!!! Picked MORE blackberries and am going to make some jelly, also blackberry and apple - should keep me off the streets for a while! 'A busy day is a happy one'.as my granny used to say! Sorted out Merlin's water, it gets so dirty and green yuk! also cleaned his paddock - Millie helped, she is now quite exhausted, and is snoring away beside me. hope you've 'cleared' your tongue Mel? It's horrid when that happens, like getting food stuck in your teeth! very annoying! I seemed to have 'mislaid' my ornamental stones, they are so useful for flowers arrangements, better than oassis. OH SAYS that he has looked in our few remaining boxes in the barn and can't see them, but I'm not so sure, need to look myself, as I have a feeling they are lurking there somewhere!!!
