Yes we are still in a bit of a muddle! and likely to stay that way for a while!! We seem to be veering from the house to the Barn where all our 'stuff' is stored! It's a bit like Xmas, unpacking things I haven't seen for momths, AND had forgotten all about, which proves that half the belongings we have we could actually live without!! Builder has annoyed us somewhat, as he has tried to bill us for an 'unseen extra'!! Any 'extra's' , according to his contract, have to be discussed and agreed in writing at the time that they occur, as you can imagine this did NOT happen. The extra in question was clearly part of the build, which he will be told in no uncertain terms if there is a fuss.!! He's still not finished the outside of the windows properly, (Architrave?) spelling?!! He is supposed to be coming to do that in a couple of weeks! just hope this doesn't turn into ANOTHER issue!! Apart from that, we are delighted with our home, the carpet was laid last Friday, and although I was having second thoughts about the colour, I am, in fact, well pleased with it; the carpet people are even making us a couple of mats (free of charge, I hope!!! they did say so!) which we shall pick up next week. Doing a load of washing as today is the ONLY fine day this week, so must make the most of it!

Morning/evening,

Liz it is nice that you are getting straight at last. I know just what you mean about unpacking things you forgot you had!! Hope all goes well with the query on the build.

Well it is quite a nice day here after yesterday. We spent loads of time at the pub having our meal and it was all delish. :-D :-D :-D

Shirl so sad when you lose an old tree. Are you talking about that huge silver birch tree in your garden? You really miss a big one when it's gone for quite a while even if it is in someone elses garden!!

Have to pop up the shop and take SIL wityh me as her car is not working. Havet o get more milk!! Thoguht I had bought enough to get us over as Chrissy usually brings some but with all the exhaust saga she just wanted to get here as soon as she could. Then yesterday one of other SIL's daughters drank milk and I had'nt accounted for that. I shall remember next time though.

Must turn the pump off now as I was filling up the big tank I water the tunnel with.

Morning all,

Liz, glad everything is going along ok, even if it's not as planed. You will get there in the end. Look forward to seeing some more pictures when you have time.

Ros has gone to Tesc#s with Carolyn. to get more stuff for tomorrows party. It had better be warmer than it is today, or I will be staying put. !!! Damp weather dosen't aggree with my bones !!!

Have looked at the lawns this morning, too wet to cut yet. Hope they dry out a bit more later. So I can get them cut, before going away.

Mel, We have three 4 pint bottles of milk in our fridge. Do you want some of that :-D :-D :-D

I have yet to view the Queen on the Thames, we saw bits on the news. I will watch that when I get home,

Like you Jane I toasted the Royals, a few times yestertday. Certainly sleept well last night.

Shirl, I hope your toms come to something, I haven't done any this year just "MONEY MAKER". Last year we gave 90% of the tomato's away. No doubt this year will be the same if we get a good crop. Sorry about your big tree, ours in the front, will be covered in flower pouches, wqhen we get back from Torquay. Should look good and brighton up the trunk..

Pat, My ex FIL had a BEECH HUT at Walton on the Naze. Which was used throughout the summer. He then sold it and bought a caravan at Felixtowe, It was great for my two children, when I left my ex, they spent most of the summer holidays with Grand Parents, at the seaside.

Ros's friend Martine is down on the coast somewhere, in the middle of a field in a very OLD caravan owned by a friend. She went last Friday, and back next Sunday. They are only using it as a BASE. So hope the weather lets them get out and about.

Very dark clouds overhead, with a bit of blue in the distance, so hope it's blowing over.

Morning everyone,

A much brighter and warmer day here , the sun is lovely ,we did have a little shower earlier, i've put some washing out so must keep an eye out as there is a few black clouds about .

Liz, glad to hear your settling in well in the new home and every things coming together , bit naughty of the builders to expect you to pay more for extras when they haven't discussed them with you .

Mel, glad you enjoyed your meal out , what did you have ??
Are the family here for the week or just over the long weekend ?

Pat ,sounds as if you are enjoying your weekend with the family , they were pleased with the paints then?

Right hubby wants a drink ,he's still painting :-S glossing now ,nearly finished .

Afternoon everyone.
Another grey day here but dry and not quite so chilly.I have just put some Geraniums and Trailing Lobelia in pots out the front.I hope they hurry up and flower as there is very little colour in the front garden. It's all out the back :-S
I did a quick but fairly thorough hoovering earlier as James is now in bed sleeping.Hopefully he will get a good few hours in before tonight. At least he is working from home tonight so won't have to rush his dinner before driving to Northampton.

Shame about your tree Shirl :-( :-( We had to take a huge tree down at the bottom of the garden some years ago and it did look strange for ages.We have about 2ft of trunk left ,and in the winter I put the wild bird seed on the various trunk ends. It's perfect for that.

Frank that is an awful lot of milk you have in your fridge!!!!!.
I'm like you Mel always think I have plenty and then someone will either have extra cereal,or milky coffee or something and then it just vanishes.

Are we looking forward to the Queens Concert tonight? I bet the atmosphere in London will be electric again :-D :-D

I think it is time now for a spot of lunch.BBL

Frank

Frank Report 4 Jun 2012 14:41

That's me DONE. I have mowed both lawns and Ros is doing the edges. They look great with the lines, and real lush green. "GReen THUMB" must have some majical formular they feed the grass with, plus all this rain.

Ros has put all bunting around the front garden, with flags down the borders. We are the only ones in the close, Misserable Bugge#s, it dosen't close a fortune, and we will never see another DIAMOND JUBILEE.

Breeze is getting up and black clouds looming.

We applied for tickets for the concert tonight, and I see those who got them, are having tea in the Palace gardens. Champers, beer, and loads of food. There were over three and a half million applications, for fifteen thousand tickets, so the chances were slim to get any. But worth a try. Did you see the millions around Pall Mall, some have camped out for two/three days. Just like the Coronation. SO PROUD TO BE BRITISH. HIP HIP HORAH !!!
GOD SAY THE QUEEN.

Not a great fan of the royal family but have to say this weekend is really quite special with all the pomp and ceremony, caught a few minutes on the news of the pageant, am more looking forward to the Euro football but once England get knocked out shan't bother to watch it.

Good to hear everything is coming together at last Liz, I get very cross with builders who try and con you into paying out more money, gives the rest of them a bad name.

Sounds like you are having a great time with the grandchildren Pat how long are you staying there.

WHY YOU NO RISTEN ..... wasn't that from Benny Hill's show when he used to do the chinese man Frank.

Spent most of yesterday with daughter making pom poms to decorate the village hall for the wedding ...... less than two weeks to go, let's hope the weather improves.

Be nice to have the house to yourselves again Jane, did Rachel not come and stay in the end.

Jane

Jane Report 4 Jun 2012 15:09

Hi Maureen .Yes Rachel and Ethan stayed, but Darren just came for a few hours and then went off on a Stag weekend to Amsterdam.I did have a few words with them both about all their bitching and arguing and told them they need to get their act together and either make a go of things or decide it 'aint working. And another little one on the way :-S :-S :-S.I just don't know how it is all going to work out.
Ethan is a smashing little fellow ,it just makes my blood boil that he is stuck in the middle of all the c*** going on with his Mum and Dad.

I think you are right about Benny Hill and Why don't you Risten. :-D :-D.I did think that last night but now you have said it yes that is it.

Frank are ALL the cases packed now with all your few bits in the corner of one?? :-D ;-) Just think, all that lovely sea air ...not far away now :-D

Jane

Jane Report 4 Jun 2012 15:25

Frank ,I keep putting my car flags on ,but then every time James uses the car they come off again :-S.To be honest I haven't seen too many people with car flags.I bet they will come out when the footie starts.Mine will go away then :-D
Not a great football fan

James is still asleep!!!!.I will have to wake him up soon as he will want a shower before his dinner and starts work tonight from our Summerhouse lol. That is going to be really weird .

Can anyone tell me how many strands of saffron I should use to put in a Paella?Have never used it before.

Maureen

Maureen Report 4 Jun 2012 15:40

I think it depends how big the paella is Jane, for one that feeds about 4 you should only need a few strands, that stuff is sooooo expensive.

It's looking a bit brighter so I might go and pot up a tomato plant I bought at the boot sale. Wasn't going to do any fruit or veg but it was only 50p. Good luck with your tomato seedlings Shirl. I don't seem to be very lucky that's why ...... and seeing Coco pe***ing on the plants ..... I stuck to flowers last year.

Just have a chicken cooking and have done my Minty Mushrooms so that can cool and I can put it in the fridge for salads later with the cold chicken.

Going up the pub again tonight for dinner. There was such a choice we want to try something else.

Chrissy had the garlic prawns for starters and then the crab and salad. Oh had crab flan for starters and then half a duck with carrots, swede, cauli, brocc, and new pots with a plum sauce and I did'nt have a starter as I had a sweet, Cherries Jubilee which was hot cherries in cherry brandy with vanilla icecream.

Jane Report 4 Jun 2012 16:08

Never done a Paella before Maureen. This is a fish less one.Instead of seafood it is Cubed Smoked Ham,Chorizo ,Chicken.Red Pepper, onion, garlic (may chuck in a few baby mushrooms.)It could be a total disaster :-S.I don't think my pan is big enough either.I don't have a proper Paella Pan.We wait and see lol...I am desperately trying to defrost some chicken so I can get it cooked in time.Forgot to take it out of the freezer!

Mel that food sounds delish .No wonder you want to go back for more.
It is very strange weather here. One minute it is sunny and quite hot and the next it's black looking clouds :-S.Good old British Weather.I just hope the Street Party down in the village is going well.If my two were still young I would have taken them to it.

Ooops looks like I've got the hiccups and not a glass of wine in sight ...... :-D It sounds great Jane, can't go wrong with those ingredients.

Not surprised you're going back for seconds Mel, sounds really delicious. Keep forgetting it's a bank holiday, still have to go out and get the ironing later :-(

Right, I'm definitely going out to pot up that tomato plant while the sun is out BBL

Hi Everyone

Haven't read all your posts as by the time I got through them I would have to come off the computer and wouldn't be able to post,

tension headaches easing a little, but still not good enough for me to spend a lot of time on the computer or read a book.

Bulders have finished laying foundations and the joiners will be arriving some time next week to put up the wooden posts and roof tressels (sp) the back garden is a mess but we knew that would happen, at least we have not had any rain lately so all the ground is dry.

OH has been moving the fridge so that when the time comes for the builders to break through into the kitchen and dinning room back walls they will have free space to move the old units out. I have been packing away a lot of dishes and glasses that we will not need for a while and OH has put them in the loft, so good to get the space and I have had a good cupboard clean out.

will e-mail a photo of the bulding work so far,
