Oh Kellie that is so sad. I still love Jellie Babies...........

My dad died 33 years ago today. So this is always a sad day for me.

Went to the garden center and oh ordered his fish food in a great big tub!!!! something else to clutter the kitchen up with.

He had a new lawn mower delivered yesterday and spent all afternoon putting it together and trying to start it to no avail. This morning when we arrived home he was straight out to it and found one of the jets blocked in the carb. after taking all that appart. and the fuel line to the idler was on the wrong way round some other bit so it would run. These mowers are supposed to be tried before they go out. It is also called An Easy Start which it definately was'nt!!!! You would really think that when you pay over £1000 for a mower it would go right away. :-| :-| :-| :-| :-|

Got 4 boxes of live mealworms for the robins as they are th ere now the minuet I go outside the backdoor. I think they have at least three chicks. I did see 4 eggs in the nest one day but don't know if she laid anymore. Also got a sheet of perspecks (sp) to make ends for my clouches in the tunnel.Oh dos'nt like me using glass as I may fall on it.

You know I said I sowed a long line of peas in the tunnel. Well the mice have dug them all up and eaten them. Now I am going to try and sow some in plugs and then plant them out once they have germinated. I shall put glass over these so I can see when they are coming up.

Hi Mel....
Start the seeds in cotton wooll balls....put the seeds in cotton wool on a nice window.....in a tray of water....
Then just take the cotton bals and transplant them.....without ever interferring with the roots etc....

Seeds usually sprout within 48 hours if the are good....

Get an old plastic bottle,,,,(we use coke bottles here)_cut the top off and use the bottom as protection.....great to protect small plants,,,,defends irritants and recycles....also magnifies the suns effects....

MICE.....get a long bucket,,,,,place a bottle over it rubbed with oil and a cheese cork....
Mice go for the cheese,,,,,slip off the neck,,,,fall in the water and drown...

I hadn't realised it was Friday 13th today Mandy.Touch wood no disasters (yet)
Not sure about James. He has gone on some long hike today with a couple of his mates.Usually when he does something like that he comes home on crutches or limping with a dodgy ankle lol.WE wait and see :-S

Pat you are good going to your Zumba dancing.I have heard of it (but what is it exactly)?I love anything with a great beat.

Oh Kellie,it sounds as you had a bit of a time when you were little ,having to sit on the pub doorstep all that time :-( and then having to do that year again .
I think it a shame when children suffer because of the actions of parents.
I was lucky in the sense the only time I was left outside a pub was when my parents nipped in for a quick drink and my Sister and me would have a packet of crisps (with the little salt wrap) and a drink in the car.
I seem to remember if we wanted another drink we went in a side door at the pub and there was a little hatch where someone from the bar would come and serve us.

STILL NO RAIN.It's getting silly now.I thought we were due to have lots of rain this week. But it has been mainly bright and sunny. The poor garden is getting desperate again.

Dear old Fitz WALKED (he never walks) up the lane from his house to mine today. He was knack**** by the time he got here. But it will do him good .he has been told he has to walk so far every day since his op.I was going to make him walk back ,but then gave in and drove him down.I don't think he has ever walked up the lane before lol.He is looking a bit drawn and rough.I told him to tidy up his beard and shave his cheeks lol.I just don't think he has felt like keeping himself looking tidy.He is normally quite particular .

Mel that is bad about your new Mower :-S :-S.It really annoys me these days ,because it seems whatever you buy there is often something wrong.
That kettle I bought a few weeks ago is leaking.....can I find the receipt? NO.
Chris has never liked it.So I told him he can buy the next one lol

Good luck with your next lot of peas :-D.Little devils those mice.

Hi there David .My old cat Peter was a good Mouser. He would always line his catches up under my swing in the garden lol. Some cats just aren't interested in mice.

I do hope Frank and Ros are enjoying their visit to Hastings and that the weather is being kind to them.

I hope on ones having a pie tonight ......just seen on the news that some one has found a DISHCLOTH in their pie !!!!! yuk, it looked like one of those j cloths .

Son has had to take DIL's father to the hospital , if you remember i told you he had a Hernia op at the end of may last year ,well he's been having a little pain so he went to the doctors this morning and the doctor sent him up to the hospital ,just rung DIL and he's got to have an op some time tonight .!!

Dry here ,but there a few black clouds looming !!

Yes ,where's Sheila and hope Williams cold is getting better.
I wonder what Ann has made today in her class , i look forward to seeing them, she has made some lovely jewelry.

Jane Report 13 Apr 2012 18:44

OMG Mandy :-S :-S :-S.No ,no pie here tonight.I have a nice Beef Casserole all ready and just keeping warm. It;s been cooking all afternoon so hopefully nice and tender.Mash done and just needs heating up in the microwave.I think there will be plenty of casserole left over to put in the freezer.

I do hope William and Sheila are ok.We haven't heard from Kim today either have we?

I did a lot of weeding today.and now my poor nails are in a right old state.Should have had my gardening gloves on :-S.Those weeds that are easily pulled up(can't think of the name) have gone mad on the gravel in the front. It looks like a lawn lol
Trouble is I get really bad back ache after just a few minutes and keep having to stop.
I hope your DIL's Dad will be ok .It sounds serious if he has to have an op tonight.I wonder if he has a twisted bowel after the hernia op.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 13 Apr 2012 18:57

I get back ache when i weed too, the trouble is i carn't kneel so i have to bend , and the next day i can hardly move.!!

DIL's father was a bit naughty he started doing things after his op when he should have rested !!
Lets just say that he does most things in the house :-S he waits on everyone if you know what i mean :-S :-S his OH doesn't do too much !!

No we haven't heard from Kim for a couple of days now , hope she's not in hospital again !!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Apr 2012 19:26

So do I Mandy.

Been up the tunnel all afternoon. Have pegged down the myplex covering ad washed all the bottomless pots. Bought some more tom plants today so should be able to plant them tomorrow.

Kellie I have never heard of sowing pea seeds in cotton wool balls before. May have to try that just out of interest. I have put a load of new seeds in plugs left over from when I had the nursery.
Thanks for that tip. as to the mice I shall just put a bait box up there and charge it up. It is a vole not a mouse. I have had them in the tunnel before and they make such deep holes. They were under the tom plants the year before last and all the dirt in the bottomless pots kept disappearing!! :-S :-| :-| :-|

Hope Frank got over his upset tum before he went away.

We have had a few spot showers today.

Mandy I have also been washing dustsheets yesterday and today but not as many as you!! :-S :-S :-S

Annx

Annx Report 13 Apr 2012 19:56

Evening All,

Well, we've had quite a few showers here this week, OH has been out tipping water out of the plant trays a few times. We had a good shower earlier today but it turned sunny again afterwards. Hopefully, Frank may be getting plenty of sunshine even if there are a few showers.

Did someone say backache!!!! Mines been giving me gyp since I was bent over cleaning the hoover bag!! I could hardly turn over in bed last night and, would you believe it, I had to get up 3 times to go to the loo.......just on the one night you could do without it!! lol :-S Today I found one of those heat patches Jane told me about in the bathroom cabinet and I soon slapped it on the offending bit!!! It really helped, so we went and did some shopping and called to see MIL this afternoon. OH said his arms were really achey too.....he was moving a few paving slabs yesterday!! Poor old crocks the pair of us!!

There was no class today Mandy.......we go back next week. The teacher is employed by the council, so, when the teachers in schools are off, so is she. We are doing more wirework next week, making a bracelet with disc beads.

Isn't everywhere getting nice and green. :-D :-D There were swathes of dandelions mixed with the daffodils on the islands on the way to MIL's, could hardly tell them apart till we got closer.

Pat you do well to have a go at a Zumba class. I love the music they play and the style of dance but it is so fast!! I watched some on Yo*tube but couldn't keep up!! lol I know just what you mean about 'hands' and 'feet' together as well. At least with Irish dancing you hardly move your arms. lol I bet Mocha will enjoy a bit of rest at home now.......after all that playing with the children.

Mel, how annoying your OH has had to do all that with a new mower!! My dad would always rather sort things himself than take them back though. He used to whip the cylinder blade off a new mower and resharpen it as he said they were never properly true. Same with his cars......he would be under the bonnet in no time, tuning and adjusting, tightening loose screws he found and with a fair bit of grumbling at things being wrong too.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 13 Apr 2012 19:57

I'am glad i finished doing the dust sheets Mel, when we get another day with a good blow i want to start washing my lounge curtains ,they say dry clean on them but i've washed them before so i know they wash ok.
I noticed at the dry cleaners just a short pair of curtains was £25 to have dry cleaned , both pairs of my curtains are floor length so i don't know how much they would cost to have cleaned and there's valances too.

Son has just rung and they are keeping DIL's father in over night ,he has to have a scan in the morning and then they'll see if they need to operate on the hernia .

Jane

Jane Report 13 Apr 2012 20:25

Ann ,I think those patches are brilliant.I think I must go and buy a pack tomorrow as looking at the weeds I will be doing a lot of bending :-S.There has been an explosion of weeds and dandelions :-S
Quite a few Daisies on the lawn too.

I thought it was my day off for walking Chester tomorrow, but no .Chris is doing Surgery :-S :-S.I was looking forward to a lie in with my book.

Janice seems to be improving now.She managed to varnish her garden chairs today, but is now suffering tonight :-S.I hope tomorrow she will take it easy.
We are going to see her on the 26th with a load of plants for her garden.I can't wait to see her again .
We were talking about the programme Lost Families .And even though we both cried buckets watching the Mothers and Children meeting, neither of us felt bad that we never got to meet our B Mothers.Even though curious , both of us never had that desperate need to find them.My B Mother had already passed away when I found my B Siblings.Janice decided not to follow things up after finding out the background of her birth .
We were 2 Happy adopted Children, and I think that is all that matters :-D :-D
