Ann ,that lovely Woodpecker visits about 4 times a day now :-D.I keep tying to get a better pic but it just needs to see a slight movement from me in the lounge and it is off!!

We are all stuffed now.Lovely Roast. But a bit of a disaster just as I was dishing up.Chris knocked a whole glass of wine over on the table. It went all over my chair and soaked in to the seat cushion :-S :-S.So a quick swapping of chairs was done.I wlll be using my new steam shot thingy on it tomorrow
GAWD! he has now just broken the Cheese Knife handle.......I will ban him from touching anything else tonight(including me ;-) :-S)

Maureen ,the flat in Crouch End costs £365 per week. But they have knocked it down to £340......It is a scary amount :-S :-S...One good thing is that is is a 2 bed flat so spare room for me lolol

I will be watching Mr Selfridge .I hope it won't be disappointing.

I tend to some times forget that I am no longer young, the reminder can be humbling.

Ive got a strong pair of legs, for my age,but my knees give me gip.
Getting off the floor can be damn near impossible at times, which is a good reason not to be on it.

That would be great Frank, a metal detecter is something I have always fancied but I get laughed at whenever I say it! :-S lol. I can see the headlines now... :-D :-D :-D What a nuisance that struggle getting up has set your knee off. Hopefully it will settle down with a good night's rest. It's boiling here since we put the heating on.........so it's off again now!

We finished off a nice mixed berry cheesecake and the sausage rolls we never had at Christmas today. Nothing left now so we can get back to normal eating hopefully.

So true David, but it's hard to clean the corners of kitchen and bathroom floors any other way........I still do them bending from the waist, but there is a tummy in the way now as well. :-S :-S!!

Up early tomorrow for the window cleaner.......then start my list of jobs :-S

Jane Report 6 Jan 2013 20:54

LOL David.I am often on the floor playing with the dog.....I am just so glad there is no-one here to see me trying to get up again.Thank heavens I have enough furniture around to help haul myself up :-DJust noticed this evening one of my knees is making a lot of cracking noise when I straighten it out :-S

Right ,I'm just going to get settled to watch Mr Selfridge.

Oh Ann ....The Window Cleaner !!!!!! Mine normally comes around the same time as yours.I better be alert in the morning just in case.I don't fancy hiding in the corner again in the nuddy :-S :-S

Was looking at the price of replacement knee joints, exhorbitant, would rather have a world cruise.
Comparative prices for the same surgery in India or else where was a third of the price.

David Report 7 Jan 2013 07:38

When I'm cleaning the kitchen and bathroom I use a mop,it gets into all the corners.

Supprised you've a tummy Ann,mines starting to spread.
If nesassary I haul myself up the furniture from the fllor, but I try not to get down there if possible.

Seems we all have the same problem in differant stages Jane.Frank's condition warns us of what to expect perhaps.

Morning everyone

OH fish tank arrived this morning at 8-15am which was just as-well OH is working from home as there was only one man and OH had to help him carry the fish tank round the back.
if I had been on my own the man would have had to make another delivery and with another man too , I was still in bed at the time.

dull wet day here, not got a lot planned , my furniture should arrive hopefully between 3 & 6 this afternoon and then it's all go to fill up my cupboards and get straight.

Took my last steroid yesterday and this morning my legs feel better BUT :-| :-| my head is tingling quite a bit. the nurse from the hospital has still not rung me back yet, I need to know if I have to make another appointment to see the Head doctor, Hope not .

Morning/Evening All

No David,no need for hiding today lol.

Just had a call ,and the Washing/M will be here within the hour :-D :-D

It is a very dull dark morning, just gloomy :-S.Fitz has gone to the home as he has to sign a form with the GP to say No Resuscitation or hospital for his Mother. She doesn't be appearing to eat or drink anything at the moment and I think the staff feel she may be giving up.

Now I really must make a start on this Xmas card pile and list

Morning All and Evening Kim,

Quite a nice morning here today with some sunshine. Yesterday was warm and I did'nt turn the heating on till the late evening just to warm the place up a bit.

Ann oh said something about codex's as he had a job to view the videos on my pc. He download Free Media Player and now I can veiw them on my pc. Frank is the only person who says he has seen it. Shirl has a black screen which is what I was getting at first.

David I have sent you it again but it was definately in my sent box.

Oh just took the bins out and the recyleing people had already been!! That will be three weeks since we have got it out to be emptied!! :-S He has left the box outside the old workshop up the front and we have a spare box so we are using that.

I have some office work to do so will be back later. I have to pay some bills, oil etc.

Frank Report 7 Jan 2013 13:17

Do you mean the DISTRUCTIONS Jane, Be careful what KNOBS you play about with. We don't want it BLOWING UP.!!
That knee cracking is how it all starts, watch out old girl. lol lol

David, are you implying I am OLD :-D :-D :-D My left knee gave out on me when I was working and walking upto 5 miles a day round a massive car sales site. One morning I just went down like a sack of SPUDS, Within a few months I had Keyhole surgery on it, and they cleared out a load of crap, I think it has just gor worse as the years go by, plus of course I rely more on my left leg, since mt stroke. So yes it might be age !!!
I see the Bloo#y phone calls have started again, I suppose they are all back to work now, and have to catch up. TWO so far today, Ros had a lot last week too.

Ros is feeling more her old self this morning, She has been taking the Michael out of me. !!! She is now in the shower and washing her hair.

Did you see Ice skating last night. I missed the IMPLANT falling out. Ros said you missed it, I said if I want to look at a boob I will look at yours, Her reply "NO CHANCE" that's me told.

Funny old morning here, bit brighter than yesterday, but still misserable.

I listened to my late night radio show in bed last night. They were playing songs by "PATTY PAGE" Born Feb 1927 died New years day this year. One was "I WENT TO YOUR WEDDING" there was a comic one about that song sang by "SPIKE JONES" where he laughts all the way through the song. Watched it this morning, bought back lots of memories. She was also the original artist to record "HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW" even though we thik of Pet. Clarke with the record.

Leason for today over.

Afternoon All,

My back is a bit sore today after helping OH put the xmas tree back into the loft.....so easy does it today! Frank, my knees started clicking and cracking in my 20s and it's just gradually got worse over the years. If I ask OH to put his ear close and listen while I swing my leg, he says it makes him feel ill!! lol. I used to play badminton at a high local level in my early 30s and I don't think all the twisting and turning helped mine. Still, as long as I can get about I'm thankful. I still do exercises to help them from a book Jane lent me. :-)

Oh Jane, Chris and James won't find a stitch to wear once you get going with your new washer! It must be great after being without one for so long......although I'm sure Hugo will be missed. ;-) What a lovely video clip of Chester playing, you would never guess his age as he still looks quite lively and happy to be playing. I could just see your longer hair......looks nice from what I could see!

Well, the window cleaner didn't turn up!! :-S He's getting less reliable these days.....it will probably be tomorrow now.....when we are out.

I quite liked Mr Selfridge last night.....really it was just setting the scene in the first episode. We are also enjoying The Ripper!

Nothing exciting here today, more paperwork for me, then maybe some sewing and then loads of dusting and hoovering. OH has notes to do. We have decided to go and see the tsunami film on Wednesday, can't remember what it is called at the mo.

Oh, forgot to say.....you could always watch DOI again on the iplayer, Frank!! ;-)

Maureen Report 7 Jan 2013 15:45

For those who watched Mr. Selfridge what did you think of it? I thought it was okay couldn't help but compare it to The Paradise, couldn't warm to the actor who plays him either. I'm glad I watched the BBC1 programme Ripper Street though, thought you might like it Jane, it had some gory scenes it :-0

Been out in the garden this morning, very mild, tidied up quite a lot out there. Dread to think how much ironing I will be picking up tonight after a 2 week break, oh well the extra money will come in handy, another wedding coming up in May.

How's the W/M going Jane. Must be good not having to rely on other people now. That rent sounds about right, my daughter pays about the same for a 2 bedroom flat in N.Finchley. We could meet up sometimes if you are staying over at your daughters :-D

Afternoon everyone,

Its been another dull day here ,the sun tried to shine this afternoon but it came to nothing .

Jane will be sat in front of her new washer i expect :-D after all it is a long time since she's seen a washer :-D :-D
The electric bill will be sky high with all the loads she will be doing :-D
Jane, lovely to see Chester having a play , Toby pricked his ears up when he heard him, i think he thought there was another dog in the house !!

My word you should hear my knees crack... i mostly notice it when i need to go to the loo when out ,i think its the hovering as i don't like to sit on the loos ,goodness knows what the other people in the loo's think when they hear it :-S :-S :-S :-S :-D

Ann, just when we think you have made the best necklace yet you come up with another one!! i love the colour of this one so pretty and all the work it must have taken ....well done it's beautiful.

I liked Mr Selfridge Maureen, have recorded Ripper Street so haven't seen any of them yet .

Must turn the oven on for the Jacket Potatoes

I can remember a Barrel Organ in London with a Monkey chained to it, also the Nightwatchmen sitting by their brazier filled with glowing coke. Wilson Keppel and Betty acting the sand dance outside the Cinema`s. I remember lemonade Bottles with a Glass Marble that you pushed in with your tongue to get a drink out, Fruit Pies at tuppence each, four sticks of Toffee for a Penny, i remember a Doodlebug going over, and i used to Pump the Bellows at the Blacksmith`s Forge, and also the
Bellows for the Church Organ. Colin Maryan

Frank

Frank Report 7 Jan 2013 16:23

The one thing I can't stand with Mr Selfridge is the brash American accent, That's one of the reasons I try to stay away from American programmes. But it takes all sorts.

Jane, I had to double take when I saw that rent figure. During a lot of my working like, I never earnt that amount, let alone pay it in rent. Wouldn't they be better off trying to buy something ??? When I started work 1953 I earnt 11 1/4d per hour. When I went to the City it was £3.00 per week. and when I came out of the RAF in 1960 my wages were £11.00 per week. My how the value of money has gone completely out of the window. When you think Ros and I have to get by on a lot less than that every week. and still we get get by.

Ann, I also enjoyed the RIPPER. I think one reason being, is that I know the area of Whitechapel quite well (or use too) also I knew a lot of the East End, from my younger days.

I remember my Dad taking me as a child around all the grewsome places of crime in my childhood, including the place where Sweeny Todd had his Barbers shop. (FLEET STREET) up from Ludgate Circus, and the Thames.
I suppose when I look back there are a lot of things about London that I miss. seeing Tower Bridge go up and down. Changing the Guards and THE BANK OF ENGLAND and the Tower of London, The beefeaters, Ravens,
Also everything within easy reach, All the theatres and West end Cinema's. eating out on our luncheon vouchers in West end Restaurants, those that took them. What a treat that was. My Ex and I would take sandwhiches when we were courting, and save the LVs for theses treats out. Whren we had no money we would walk Oxford steet, Regents St, Bond st, Etc. allways something to do whatever the weather and time of year. We would think nothing of spending our lunchtimes in the Guild Hall, sitting around.

I've got myself going, so I had better shove off !!!

ee you later.

Maureen

Maureen Report 7 Jan 2013 16:49

Although the rent you pay in London is probably the equivalent of a monthly mortgage you have to have a whopping great sum to put down as a deposit Frank and it's very difficult for them to save any money when such a huge chunk is coming out in rent. I guess the answer is to move out of London.

I did a couple of those London walks, Jack the Ripper, Dickens London, and the East End, they were quite good, it depends on the guide.

I'm going to shock you now.I only did one load of washing :-D :-D.The only reason is that if I did too much I would run out of places to dry as nothing was going to dry outside today. It seems to be a musical machine ,with different beeps and tuneful sounds as it begins and then when it finishes lol

The big cheque finally arrived today so I whizzed off to the bank and paid that in :-D :-D.So next week I should have everything.

Maureen that is a good idea.I am bound to go and see Hannah sometime.Mind you I won't have a clue where I am lol

glad you managed to see Chester Frank. He was actually a real pain as it was late and I was trying to concentrate on TV.
I must try and get him though when he is so excited his teeth chatter. It is so funny.

Ann that is a stunning necklace :-D :-D.I really really wouldn't have the patience to make something like this. You must be very happy with it.10 out 10 for that one :-D :-D

James and Jess are still here. They were going to Kent yesterday and then this morning, now it is this evening :-S :-S.I love them dearly but it will be nice just to have the place to myself for a couple of days.(only trouble no car again lol)

Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to see'The Quartet 'with Fitz

I better make a move so BBL
