Emergency ward 10....

Welcome Bill, I can just hear the music right now!! It was the first 'hospital' series I can remember and I seem to remember rather liking, was it a Dr Moon or was that another programme? I remember when we first had colour tv that the blood made me feel a bit squeamish. Anymore memories? We seem to have run out of steam.

Yes Bill I remember Emergency Ward 10. Mum watched it from the start. Was'nt one of the doctors in that in Crossroads too. Was he a Mr Hunter? had the blond wife.

Well we let the bantam out of the bedroom where she should have been sitting on the 9 eggs. She stayed out in the run bit of the ark for a couple of hours so I do'nt think they will hatch now. She went back on the eggs only a while ago. Silly girl. Still I got some chick crumbs today so if any do hatch I am prepared.

Been dry here most of the day but we have had a wind too.

Ann glad your pipes are now sorted and the drain should work properly now. Did you not have a jewelry class today?

coming over a bit darkish now so I better go and shut the chickens in before it gets completely dark.

Morning/Evening to all my FRIENDS World Wide.

Not the best of mornings, Clouds, High Winds, and a chill in the air.

I went round the "ESTATE" this morning, picked a few strawberries and I mean a few (5) Will try the bags of pots later to see if they are big enough for a picking for Sunday dinner, can't wait to try them. Broad beans in flower, no black fly (I need to pick out the tops) Runner beans at top of canes. Peas looking good. On the salad from, the slugs had all my lettuce, reseeded another pot on Thursday with plenty of slug pellets around. Beetroot in full leaf, spring onions looking good. Cooking Onions getting bigger.

JUane, I know I don't know JO. but tell her we are thinking of her You, William,David and I.
What age group do you fall into ???

I was thinking, while I was peeling the onions last night, about the CARBON PAPER we used in the 50s, was made from Onion skins !!!! Did you girls know that ???

Ros is on her usual Saturday gaunt with Martine to Morris##s,, our Neighbour goes at 7.30am to be there when they open. He is in and out with no crowds and back home before 9.00 am That what I would do if it was left to me and I could drive. Oh my life! It's all go in the garage.Chris is pulling out everything out away from the walls.Units ,cabinets my big upright freezer, everything he can.It is a right mess :-SThings out in the garden and the summerhouse.Everything is filthy, damp and covered in cobwebs 20years old :-S :-S.Hopefully we can get a clearer idea of the problem .James is helping shift all the heavy stuff as I am no use.I wrenched my shoulder yesterday.I shall stay out he way for now I think.
Frank your veg are a lot further on than ours.Although we have had our first Cucumber today :-D :-D

Thanks for your wishes for Jo .We don't actually know her either, and I think Janice has only met her a handful of times. It is a very strange situation really and now this awful news about her cancer returning.I don't think anyone knows just how things are going to work out yet.I I imagine Mum and Baby will be kept together as much as is possible.I guess Baby will be in hospital anyway until it gets to a certain weight. It is a wait and see situation.Haven't heard anything yet today.I don't know what time she is being induced or how long these things take.I'm sure I will have an update later today.

I bet Mandy's DIL has her bag all packed and ready to go for Monday :-D :-D.James heard this morning his friend in USA has just had a second son.Another of his pals will have twin girls soon.It is Babies all over the place at the moment lol
Horrible cloud here now,but not quite so windy. At least no more rain for now :-D

Hello all,

Been a woeful day. Woke up with swollen fingers and wrists and pain everywhere. Some sort of inflammatory thing on the go. Have not eaten either. Got up about 2, half the day gone.

Hope your weather is good over there, especially at Royal Ascot this afternoon.

Have had 6 teenagers here tonight, music blasting, new boy on the scene - although another one here last night. I'm getting old, I can't keep up with it all. :-S Poor Keith had to rush out and buy pizzas as we thought there was only 2 coming. Talk about mooching Frank, I imagine there'll be a bit of smooching going on.

Off to the couch. Is Pat back yet?? Have a good afternoon. 10.15 pm EST

Afternoon all,

Better day here today ,nice sunshine.

Frank, i didn't know carbon paper was made with onion skins!! you learn some thing every day :-D
I remember going into the little shop with mum to order the shopping and out would come the book were the things were written down and then delivered later that day, i think it had two pieces of carbon in ,i always remembered it seemed to take ages as he would have to get the carbon paper in flat without creasing it up !!
The smell of the coffee being ground in the back room was heaven ,and i always made sure i stood near the biscuit rack to pick the biscuits :-D :-D

Oh Jane ,what a palaver , best to keep out of the way and let them get on with it :-Si hope they can find whats causing all the damp.

DIL has got her bags all ready ,she doesn't seem nervous at all....its son who is nervous :-D he just wants it all over with , they have been told they can take a camera in the theatre so long has it will fit in sons pocket.
I did ask if they had picked a name and DIL said she quite likes flowery names like Lily and Daisy , so we'll have to wait and see.

Oh Kim, you are having a time of it,i hope you'll soon feel better , have you got the ear plugs ready :-D

Just thinking, this time last week I was all dolled up in my finery ready to leave for the church, bit of a contrast today strolling round the boot sale in my old jeans and jumper, I never dress well for boot sales, the sellers would think I can afford to pay a bit more for things ...... ;-).

I do hope the lady having the baby will be okay Jane, will nephew be involved with the baby at all, it is a sad story, guess we don't realise how lucky we are. I was wondering why Hannah is in debt now, did she pay more for the house than she sold it for.

Did you have your jewellery sale Ann, don't remember seeing any mention of it.

Watched Gardener's World last night, wasn't very keen on Monty Don when he first took over, no one could replace Alan Titchmarsh. I have warmed to him now but my favourite of all is Nigel his dog.

What will happen to the chicks Mel if she doesn't lay on them, will they hatch.

Hope the pain has eased for you Kim, not easy dealing with youngsters when your unwell.

Mandy. Talking of Coffee. The firm I worked for in the City, got their coffee from a Coffee blender round the corner from the office, As a young office boy I would go round and wait for it to be ground. The smell was out of this world, and the taste of the coffee just as good.

Good luck to Son and DIL for the new coming on Monday.

There is nothing nicer than the smell of fresh ground coffee .Not a big fan of it.I prefer instant.I find the ground stuff a bit too strong sometimes.
I always remember my friend Ann saying she loved the smell of our house in the mornings when she called on me for school. She said it always smelled of Toast and Coffee :-D

Kim I hope the night is not too raucous for you.Hope all that horrible pain and inflammation has eased now.

I think I am going to have to go and put a warmer top on.'tis a bit on the chilly side :-S

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 Jun 2012 21:15

Glad your home safe and sound Pat. I did think of you when I saw the floods on the telly.

Maureen thanks for the pics of the drapes you made. I would'nt have liked to have had to make things that big. don't lose any more weight or you will disappear!!.

Frank my beans are up to the top of my canes and we had our first cue yesterday Jane. It was delish. I have had a picking of spinach from the tunnel but I did'nt plant it. It just came up where i had planted it last year from seed that had fallen so that was a bunse. Also pak khio self seeded and we have had someof that too.

Pots are flowering and about three feet high in the tunnel. I leave mine a bit longer so I have bigger spuds but we shall have some of the little ones. there may be courgettes next week too. Pumpkin is slow to take off as are the butternut squash plants.

Had strawberries too, quite a nice picking yesterday and I ate them all.

Evening All,

At least we have only had a brief shower today and that was this evening. Most of our veg are going to be late this year! :-S Slugs have been after the runners which are still quite small and they have started on the cooking onions now!!The tomatoes are growing well and in flower and there is 1 cucumber about 3 inches long. Other than some lettuce in the greenhouse that is about it!! :-(

I love Alan Titchmarsh too Maureen and Monty Don. Nigel is a lovely boy isn't he, trots round and is as good as gold! It took me a while to get used to Carol, but I like her now`. Not so keen on Joe Swift or that posh woman who used to wear long skirts for gardening!!

Your drapes turned out well didn't they and hid that cupboard completely.......looking forward to the next pics.

The jewellery sale will be the week starting next weekend. In fact I went to a craft fair this morning to get an idea of prices. There must have been about a dozen jewellery stalls with quite a variety of stuff but not much that I'd describe as 'different'. The prices varied a lot but at least Iit gave me some idea. Also the friend I bumped into the other night from the class is a deputy headteacher and sells some things at her school so she gave me a rough idea too. We are all putting about 10 things each to sell to see how it goes.

Sounds like you had the best of the weather and left at the right time Pat. I hate travelling on motorways with all that spray, not very relaxing. I thought of you the other day when I was in the dog's home charity shop. One of the customers was telling the staff how she used to manage a charity shop a few years ago and really misses getting all the bargains!! lol.

Ohh Mandy......not long now!!:-D I have noticed when I am out that there seem to be a few little girls called Poppy, another flower name.

Annx

Annx Report 23 Jun 2012 21:45

Frank I didn't know that about carbon paper either and I used enough of the stuff at work too. Statements and receipts and instalment forms all had carbon copies and some forms we did were in triplicate like Mandy says and yes it was a b****r for creasing. We would handwrite most letters with carbon copies too and it would gradually fade with all the copies you did till you could hardly read the copy. Infuriating when you put the carbon the wrong way up too and got the print on the back of what you were writing!! lol How times have changed.

When I started we had no curtains or blinds or carpets and the furniture was old. The kind of chair you had depended on your grade!! Assistants' chairs had no arms, officers' chairs did have arms and by the time you reached the lofty height of Higher Executive Officer you had your own room and were entitled to a small rug at your desk and a footrest!!! If your pen ran out you had to hand it in to get a new one and there were no calculators unless you bought your own. Scrap pads were needed all the time for phone messages and calculations, but it would be noted if you were using a lot and questions would be asked!! It was drummed into us then that the public paid for what we used and any waste was monitored and discouraged. Telephones had to be shared and you had to get permission to make only urgent private phone calls at work, even to check if your car was ready to pick up from the garage. In some cases you would be charged for private calls too as calls were monitored. Quite strict in those days.

Jewellery classes have finished until September now Mel. What a shame there were no chicks!! Birds are funny things though and I can remember when I kept canaries some would just desert their eggs for no apparent reason even when the eggs were fertile and developing.
