Berona Report 5 Oct 2010 23:00

Sorry Tec - Didn't see you there. You are quiet.
Hope you and the Duchess are both well.

Sue - I was shocked when my son rang a few months ago and said he and his partner both had Whooping Cough. I told him he couldn't have because he had been immunised as a child - but he said the effects of immunisation had worn off. He is 44 and his partner 38. Both had it but the children didn't get it because they have been immunised in recent years.

Not anymore Linda - I have a maid now. I certainly don't buff up the silver either Amanda:-))

Whooping cough is a terrible disease Berona, it can have devastating effects. I think the problem is that as these diseases became uncommon, people didn't know about them ,so the vaccination rate has dropped and the diseases are reappearing again

Diane Report 5 Oct 2010 23:04

Linda don't you polish furniture, I find it very relaxing when I'm in the mood for it, especially when I use proper polish out of a tin, I only use the spray polish on veneered MDF and not on my solid wood funiture.

Ooh, get you Sue

LindainHerriotCountry Report 5 Oct 2010 23:06

I do polish the furniture Diane, I am not as posh as Sue lol.

I agree about the tinned wax, it makes such a difference to the wood. I do use spray polish as well in between times

SueMaid Report 5 Oct 2010 23:09

Yes Linda - did I say something to amuse you:-)) Tinned polish smells so nice. My mum uses a beautiful lavender scented polish - her house smell lovely when she's polished her furniture.

Now and then there is an advertising campaign to have children vaccinated. Some people are concerned about the side effects but from what I can see the chance of re-introducing these horrible illnesses is the biggest problem.

I like polish from a tin as well Diane , I think it " feeds " the wood better than spray stuff ( and it smells nicer ) .

Berona ..... I hope your son and his partner have recovered from the whooping cough ok .

I am always quiet Berona - it's the best way to be, anyway it's hard to get a word in with this lot.

I've been playing with my new mobile phone, maybe called cell phones in Oz. My daughter bought me a new one for Christmas, she said it was "State of the Art" well I'm not.
It apparently does everything - sings, dances, takes photo's and videos, flushes the loo, and cooks the dinner, all before breakfast - stupid thing.
But I found one advertised in Radio Times that you can call people on, and take calls, and text if you must - no nonsense - it's just a phone.
So the super duper posh one can go in the drawer along with the MP3 Player, I-Pod, and something else I've no idea even what it is, but I am supposed to be impressed I think.
Now I can actually phone people on my mobile without having to take a degree in modern technology.

LOL Tec ..... I don't have a mobile phone , if one of my lot bought me one ..... ( well , I don't think they would dare to be honest ) I'd be putting it straight in a draw . When one of theirs " goes off " , I pick it up and hand it to them as if it's a bomb ! .....lol
I like a good old land line , when I'm out and about I'm unavailable to be pestered for anything : ))

My mobile phone allows me to call, take calls and text - I don't text very often. One good thing is that it receives photos so when my son sends on a photo of Aiden I get it almost immediately. I do have an MP3 player which I enjoy when I'm on my own and reading on the verandah. I have my favourite songs on it.

I need to get a new mobile as well Tec because the battery on mine is not staying charged for as long. I don't make that many calls and just a few texts. The texts are useful when we are on holiday because they are much cheaper than calling. I must say that i am hankering after a fancy one which I can have internet access on. My children all have i phones, but the monthly fee is too much for something I wouldn't use as they do

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 5 Oct 2010 23:25

I refuse to allow anyone but family to have my mobile phone. I am repeatedly asked for the number by various people working at the hospital but I refuse - mostly because I know they would pass the number on as I have found out with my email address. I would be bombarded by calls wherever I am and I'm sure my OH wouldn't be impressed.

My mobile hardly gets used, but I like to know the Duchess can contact me from home if she's in trouble when I'm out at the shops that are 10 miles away.
Also living in a very rural area it's handy to have if the car were to break down.

The whooping cough vaccine was the only one I had to think about, when my eldest was due for it there was the initial scare about it so I decided not to let him have it, when I had my daughter 2yrs later I was advised by Dr not to let her have it, the reason he advised against it was because there was history in family ( her father ) of heart trouble so she too didn't have it, when my youngest was born I again had to think about it as there was asthma on his father's side of family but at the same time there was also an outbreak of whooping cough, my mind was easily made up, I thought the chance of him getting whooping cough was more of a risk so he had the vacination. My mum never allowed any of us to have any vacination's because her first child ( my brother ) reacted badly to the measles vaccine, so we all had measles, chicken pox and whooping cough. Later on when it came to the rubella vaccine as a teenager she allowed me to have that one, oh I forgot we were also allowed to have the polio drop's on a sugar lump.
