I don't take moonlit walks with anyone else Linda -- no one will come with me lol..

This laptop is playing up and being very slow, so I best go to bed.

Goodnight everyone,
Tec.

Berona Report 5 Oct 2010 00:16

Good night to those going off to the big Brits' bed. Good morning to all others. My computer hates me. It has taken me 45 minutes to get into GR and it keeps freezing on me. Not a good way to start the day.

Linda, you smile at the place names being the same as English places. I get frustrated with them!

Most of the placenames in Oz were invented by our U.K. ancestors and as they have developed, they are nothing like each other. One example is where I was born (Newcastle, NSW) It has suburbs named Swansea and Cardiff - so when I first started working on my family tree, I expected to find Swansea and Cardiff somewhere in the Newcastle area. This is just one example of the many times I have been frustrated this way.

I notice that many US towns/cities have English names. This is probably the same situation.

I will have to come back later. My computer is playing up badly, so I'm going to re-boot - and since that is taking anything up to an hour - as Arnie says: "Ah'll be back!"

Good morning thread.

I was thinking about Diane and feeling sorry for her having to get up so early and go out in the cold to work. One of the things I love about retirement is the ability to have a leisurely start to the day. I like dozing whilst listening to the Today programme on radio 4, then eventually getting up and pottering around, having breakfast, checking the computer before I eventually decide to shower and dress for the day. Such a change form the alarm clock, a hasty breakfast and a rush to get to work - bliss

I hope your computer decides to behave itself Berona, I will keep looking in to see if you come back

Well, I tried, Linda. However, I have only had two sleeps without those tabs which made me sleep and I don't think they are out of my system yet - or I have developed a new sleep pattern.
I have something to confess. I thought I was doing well to wake at 7am, then I had the problems with the computer and I got as far as that last post when I said I'll be back (10:19am here). I closed down and re-booted but don't remember anything until I awoke and it was 11:20am. I'd gone to sleep waiting for the computer to boot up! I've never done that before!

lol Berona, as you say, the tablets will take time to get out of your system.

Good evening/ morning thread and peep's

OOh bless Linda, thank you for thinking about me this morning having to get up early and going out in the dark ( not to cold though )
I jumped up 30min's late which mean's I had to rush, I don't have breakfast when I get up just a cup of tea and a cigarette, I have 2 round's of toast at work about 10am which is better than I used to do. In my last job I was in work for 9-45am and didn't have anything to eat until my dinner break which was about 1pm.
How is your weather today, here it was a bit windy until about 11-30am but then it was sunshine until about 6pm and then a little rain. I spent about 3hrs doing employer's mum's garden today, I thought I'd make the most of the dry weather and get the grass cut at the front and the back in case there isn't another opportunity to get it done before winter, hopefully it will continue to be dry and I can get the rest of the garden tidied up for winter.

Berona, glad you are still able to sleep without your tablet's, Newcastle ( NSW ) well Cardiff and Swansea are in South Wales but Newcastle is a tiny village in Shropshire which is England, there are another 3 in different part's of Wales, Bridgend S. Wales, Monmouthshire S.E. Wales and Carmarthenshire is S.W. Wales, but the main Newcastle is in the N.E of England and is refered to as Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Then in Republic of Ireland there are 4 different Newcastle's, you would think they could think of new name's for places instead of useing the same one in so many country's. Seeing the name Newcastle in so many places make's me wonder if it was the UK it originated in.

Good morning/evening friends - hope you are all well.

I had a lovely morning with the boys. We've noticed that Drew loves exploring so we allowed him - under supervision - to have a look around the garage. He loved it which shows you don't need to spend money to have fun. The boys were with us while their mum took Aimee for a hearing test. The specialist was very pleased with her hearing - he said there was no need for grommets as the fluid in her ear was minimal and normal. He said she has "normal" ear canals which is good because children with Down's often don't. So good news.

Good evening Diane and good morning Sue .

Sue .....I'm so pleased to hear that Aimee's hearing test went so well and that her ear canals are as they should be : )) ( when Daisy was having ear trouble they discovered that one canal is only an eighth of the size it ought to be , hence the further tests she had to have ) .
I'm glad you had fun with the boys , I wonder if Drew will get a hankering for DIY when he gets a bit older ?

Diane , glad you got to work in reasonable time and that you had some sunshine today . I ought to get out and tidy my garden but I'm waiting for the spiders to clear off first ....lol

Tecwyn Report 5 Oct 2010 21:59

Good Morning/Evening Everyone,

Diane sounds like you were very busy in the garden today, hope you didn't over do it though on your first day back. The forecast for the rest of the week is quite good, so you should be able to get finished what you started. We had a glorious day here, sunny, and quite warm for October, but as you said, it was windy. I also did some tidying in the garden, although I'm supposed to be decorating indoors, but it was too nice to be stuck indoors - it will be a long winter.

I think many people who emigrated or were transported to Australia, Canada from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in the 18th and 19th century named the place they settled in after wherever they came from originally. South Africa has many Dutch names, this would have been the influence of the Boers I suppose.

Sue - When I was little I loved to explore my grandfathers shed - full of interesting things - being able to crawl underneath the benches I often found things he had lost long ago as he was no longer able to crawl underneath the benches.
It is so good that little Aimee had such a good result with her hearing and doesn't have to have grommets after all - something less for her and her mum to worry about.

Tec.

Good Evening Amanda,

I too hope the tooth is not too bad now.

Your excuse for not getting out in the garden is the most original I've ever heard lol - I'm sure the spiders will run for their lives when they see you coming armed with forks, spades, hoes, rakes etc. Poor spiders :))

Hello Sue .....Daisy's ear is fine now , thank you . I think it will always bung up when she gets a cold etc ( and what little girl doesn't like to play deaf from time to time ......lol ) .
The tooth is being good . I stopped the antibiotics two days ago , having looked them up on the Internet they didn't have a good " press" at all . Apparently if a person does drink alcohol with them it causes violent sickness . I've waited two days and am now having a sip or two of Rum : )))

Good evening Tec .....I feel really guilty now that I didn't get out into my garden , I heard it calling me but I ignored it and sat indoors painting boxes all day .

Good evening everyone, we have been on cinema duty tonight, which is why I am reporting in late.

I am glad you enjoyed your time with the boys Sue and itgoes without saying that it is good news about Aimee

SueMaid Report 5 Oct 2010 22:11

At least you've been productive Amanda. Glad to hear your tooth is being quiet:-)) Perhaps Daisy has grown out of her ear problems. The specialist said that problems with bunged up ears is very common in young children.

Tec - Drew thoroughly enjoyed going into an unlocked cupboard and having a good rummage. OH keeps any chemicals etc. in a locked cupboard. It's a wonderful curious time being 6.

Hello LInda - how's the weather where you are?

Tec.....I can assure you that far from running away from me the spiders lie in wait , in there sticky webs , one caught me the other day ( whist I was engrossed in searching for dog poo ) I walked straight into the web and screamed like a big girl......lol......the web was at FACE height , it was horrid !!

It has been quite nice here today, fairly warm for this time of year. Walking back tonight though, OH pointed out that there was condensation on top of the cars, not cold enough for frost, but on its way
