Huia

Huia Report 11 Aug 2014 23:35

Yesterday my son, his wife and I went in the hearse, driven by the female manager of the funeral home (she lives down the bottom of our road). We went to the crematorium at Mangere, which is a bit further than the one at Manukau but apparently much cheaper. It is older and the furnaces as slower but I am sure Phil wasn't complaining.

Before he was taken in to the furnace room we were left for a few mins to say our goodbyes and I was curious to see the casket so lifted the drape. It was a heavy type of cardboard, and my son rapped on it to see how solid it was. I told him not to do that or Phil might invite him in! :-0

The man who operates the furnaces asked if we wanted to go in to see it happening so I said yes, although Peter and Linzi didn't seem so keen but went in with me. Linzi was shedding some tears when he was put in and the furnace started up, but I was quite calm. Some twigs of our Kauri tree had been put in with him on Friday. Otherwise that was it.

When we got back to Papakura, P and L took me to lunch and then they went shopping before going back to Rotorua, and I went to work in the shop.

After work I was invited to dinner with one of my workmates so it was a very full and lovely day.

Thank you. We are down in Lee on Solent. Just been to an Italian restaurant for a meal, the wind is ferocious and the sea is grey and rough. Glad I am not a sailor.

Congratulations Sylvia and OH.

Mo in Kent Report 12 Aug 2014 21:22

Congratulations Sylvia and OH, on your wedding anniversary. Did you go out for a meal to celebrate ?

A very happy birthday for tomorrow Ann. How long are you away for love. ?

Huia, it's good to hear that Phil's funeral went well. Your definately braver than me, there is no way I would have been able to view the furnace room, it would have upset me to much.

Sallie, it sounds like you had a lovely meeting with the GR friends. How was Joyce? I know that she goes onto Face Book, and plays games, so her brain is working well now, following her stroke. Bless her, we do miss seeing her on here.

Well we have another funeral to attend tomorrow. We are going to wear waistcoats in memory of dear Michael, as he was so well known for his variety of them.
I think we shall look like a field of flowers, with all the different colours being worn.

Night Night god bless everyone. xxx

Hi Mo

yes, we went to our favourite restaurant, and it was excellent as always :-)

I had rack of lamb, and OH had duck breast, both cooked to perfection

Huia I am pleased that all went sell at the funeral, don't think I would want to see the furnace though.
Sallie pleased that you met with Joyce I am sure she enjoyed that.
Mo we are in Lee for 3 days then at our daughters house near winchester from Friday until Sunday.

Hi all

Thank you for your good wishes and thank you Shaun for the lovely card and the poem on here. I have done very well with a lot of cards and still some to come with being away. My presents are mainly money but I haven't seen anything I fancy yet. I look forward to spending it later.

Had a lovely day so far, drove all along by the sea from Lee to Stokes Bay, out past Haslar and Dolphin to Gosport. Parked the car and walked to the ferry to go across to Portsmouth. It was a bit rough but sunny and not cold. Several RN ships in including a large carrier which we think is HMS Ocean. Walked to Gunwharf Quay and had a look around the shops and sat down by the marina looking at the Spinnaker but chose not to go up. Back to the ferry and Gosport again. (I used to do this return trip on much older boats from 1956 to 1961 every weekday. In Gosport had lunch of a shared platter and a glass of wine each, back to the car and back to the B&B. Then walked out to the front to sit in the sun with a cuppa. Back to rest. Probably Chinese tonight.

Tony's leg seems much improved he is tired but it stood up well to the walking without pain so is hopefully on the mend.

Hi girls,

Jean, I am wondering how you got on with your hospital appointment today...I hope that it all went well, with nothing to worry about. Thinking of you.

Ann, so pleased to know that you and T are having a nice break in Lee on Solent and that you are enjoying your birthday so far. Enjoy the rest of your week and with your daughter and her family on the weekend.

Also T's leg is improving each day and he is able to enjoy himself and not in too much pain and discomfort.

Mo. yes it was nice to meet up at Sheila's..... Joyce was pleased to see us all she was her usual jokey self we all had a good laugh together. She was looking quite well, which was nice to see, hope she continues that way for a long while now.

It was also nice to see Liz P, she and K were up in Derbyshire for the week, I don't think that they had stayed in Derbyshire before. They are hoping to have another break up here before the autumn so we are hoping to meet up with them one of the days.

Sylvia. pleased that you and OH enjoyed your anniversary meal out at your favourite restaurant. It sounds wonderful...I love rack of lamb too.

Huia, happy to know that Phi's funeral went as planned, Like the others, I don't think I would have liked to have gone into the furnace room either.. But everyone must do what they feel is best for them and what they are happy with.

Marie, we haven'y heard from you for a while, I hope that everything is okay with you all.

Well girls, will chat to you again soon.

Love, Sallie. xxx

Sallie I was just going to pm you, the visit tio the clinic went very well , I saw a doctor I saw in 2011 he advised me about the vertigo, lovely man, he explained every step of the way, and the camera was over and done in just a few minuetes, it seems my vocal cords are strained, he made me laugh when he asked did i go to bingo, did I shout a lot , I used to sing a lot but that was years ago, so its still a mystery but nothing to worry about. He did say whispering when I talk does more harm than normal talking, I do talk softly so need to raise the tone, but such a relief....thank you for thinking about me....

Ann, I had forgot you were away , so you have your money gifts to spend later and more cards too. enjoy the rest of your holiday hope your family are all doing o.k.

we had some sad news our friend who used to live in Cyprus , her OH as dementiar (sp) , they were visiting some friends down south and she had a major stroke, D her oh couldnt understand what was happening and was in a bad state, however she is now home, but he has gone worse, we are going to see them as soon as its ok to go.... please think of them both ....

love Jean xx

Jean, I've sent you a pm, our messages crossed. So pleased to know that all went well at the hospital for you, thank goodness for that. It looks as though you have the hidden talent of a bingo caller. LOL It made me chuckle when you told us what the doctor had asked you.

So sorry to hear to hear about your friend, I bet her OH was so very confused to watch her having it.. Jean I am thinking of them both and hope she will make a good recovery from the stroke.
Love and special thoughts to them both. <3 <3 <3

Goodnight all.

wow almost a week since anyone posted.

Jean I am so sorry about your friend and hope she recovers from the stroke. And her poor OH as well.

I can't remember if I commented about your throat. glad it was not anything serious then. My sister has/had the same probelm which has stopped her doing Am Dram/singing.

Mo, Sallie and Jean thank you so much for your cards, loved them all. I had so many both that I took with me and received on our return that I struggled to find places for them. Having the birthday group cards does boost them Lol!!!!

Jean, when you swapped to an electronic die cutter, which one did you buy? Are you pleased with it still?

JustJean

JustJean Report 19 Aug 2014 19:53

Ann I have the E-Bosser,I like it a lot the only drawback it doesnt always cut if the die is in middle, but not a problem really, just turn the die round Embossing is very good, I still have the cuttlebug, although I havent used it since I got e-bosser,its quite heavy so best to have it were you can get to it easily.....the insruction book is very good and clear.I got a A4 folder with it too and have bought some more, . also square ones...

love Jean xx ps love the pics , Luke is lovely boy...... <3
