This is from Anne.

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. Hubby and I are going into York this afternoon for as brouse and then meeting friends for a meal before going on to the theatre tonight, should be fun.
Hubby and son have sprung a suprise on me this morning as they have arranged a trip to London to see the Da Vinci exhibition at the National Gallery on Wednesday followed by lunch at a Michelin starred restaurant. I am delighted with this as it also gives me the chance to stay with the family overnight.I am a lucky girl

Hope you are well and not too cold ( its minus 4 today here)
Beast wishes

Frank Report 14 Jan 2012 12:27

Afternoon all,

Very cold night and a good frost this morning, minus 4 not as cold tonight they say.

William, When I first came out of the Air Force, I bought a bike and cycled from Woodford Bridge to Leadenhall street every day. The worse place was Stratford Broadway. They still had the tram lines down, and you could easily get your wheel caught in one.

Mum and Dad would sometimes take us to the Stratford Theatre. Where the Organ came out of the stage, Was quite young so woundn't know the acts. !!!

I remember Mum taking us the the Cinema. She said Dad is on later.
We watched the first film, and I kept asking Where's DAD. Later she said. When the News came on, in between films. There was my dad being introduced to the KING OF ENGLAND. It was some presentation to do with Trafalgar day. I have been promised the photo of the event, which Mum had on her wall, but when she died one of the other children got their hands on it. I have never seen it since. !!!

Jane, this cold is goinggggg on and onnnnnnn. You poor thing. You must be fed up to the teeth with it now. Our old fashioned receipe for colds was. Camphorated oil rubbed on your chest, feet and under your nose. If it was a chesty cough Mum would wrap Brown Paper round your chest.

Had a wonderfull breakfast this morning. Sausages, Bacon, two eggs, and a big daffy of Bubble and Squeak. two slices B & B and three cups of tea.
Won't need anything till tonight.

Happy birthday Ann, have a good one.

Hi Everyone,

Happy birthday Anne, it is quite a nice day for what you are doing. Hope you got some nice pressies!

Jane, I bet you don't feel up to doing much at the moment! I bet Chester is getting quite puzzled by your nocturnal meandering too!

It is a pity you couldn't get a copy of that photo from somewhere Frank. There must be others somewhere I would think!

Hope you have a nice time with your friends Denise. You were an early bird this morning!

Mandy, I bet you will be watching where the bread goes in the bag today!! I'm glad your back is easing a bit now.

Shirl, is there much of your tree left? you won't have to cut the rest down will you?

We didn't go ironing board hunting in the end. OH came out with me with my camera and we went walking around the quarry trail instead as it looked so nice with the frost. Lots of catkins and pussy willow, but they have cut all the side hedge back along one side, which is a shame as there were lots of hawthorn berries for the birds. :-S We passed the little garden centre that nearly closed on the way back and had poached eggs on toast and a nice cuppa which was very nice. OH has gone off to footie now so I'm not sure whether to go out again or stay in in the warm!!

Ann, I take it that was Clear Hooters in Bedworth. I managed to sketch it as it was being demolished and the mother of the chap who owned the site (the site was sold to Tesco's) bought my picture and sent it to her son who lived in tax exile in the Channel Islands. Just before Christmas they re-opened a multi million Tesco Extra on the same site. We've only been in there once since it opened but it's too expensive for us, we go to Morrisons now.
That was great and kind that your FiL got his puncture mended, it restores your faith in human nature. Where did he have to cycle to in Coventry?
However, talking of bikes these days, we seem to notice the kids just drop them at the entrance to the shops. How they don't get stolen I don't know. I always have a nasty longing to step on the spokes because they are in my way, but I haven't done thet - YET! Bring back the days when, as you say, we rested the peddle on the kerb and nobody would nick them. All the schools had those cycle racks where your bike would be safe all day.

Still stuffy nosed and sno**y.I'm fed up with it now.I had a litttle dose on the settee and woke myself up snoring :-S :-S
I may try the Vick on the feet. That will be one way of putting Chester off from licking them lol

5 hours behind Shirl .I must remember that .Until I forget again ;-)

Lucky you Ann.Good old ERNIE :-D

We had baked Potatoes the other night Mandy.First time in quite a while.I'm just having a nice cup of tea,and then will think about Spag Bol.Trouble is I can't taste much :-| :-|.It's not fair Boo Hoo !

Frank, you're right about Stratford Broadway, if I remember the road was cobbled stoned for years and was hell to ride on, I have my baptism cert from Stratford Broadway (St John's Church - in the middle) still and would you believe theres a little cameo photo on if of the church and in fron ot it ia a 'horse drawn tram' I'm just hoping they had a lot printed and were using them up, I hate to think I'm that old.
I've also got my Coronation Certificate for 1937 for the celebrations in Cedars Road Stratford, Wednesday May 12th. Seems I come from a family of hoarders. Pity someone didn't hoard the photo of your Dad, that would be something to really treasure.
After my Dad died I inherited an old tin box full of all sorts of treaures. However the one thing missing that I do remember was a photo of my Dad's older brother Jim at his coster mongers stall. I never met him and my Dad obviously thought the world of him. I'm glad I've been able to piece together Jim's part in our family history, but I would so much love to have that photo. I wouldn't give up on it. Via this site, I managed to have a member provide me with a photo of my great uncle outside a shoe makers shop in Wembley when he went into partnership with the other members relative. So don't give up hope.

Ann, you've just proved that there is actually still an ERNIE. We have had Premium Bonds for years and have never had a penny. Good luck to you, don't blow it all at one go!

Evening All

<3 HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNE <3 Hope you have a lovely time out.

Been a really busy day, Took Sofia to Morr*sons this morning while her dad was a work and her mum at the gym. she was good as gold and sat in the troolly the whole time untill we got to the till and then she wanted to put shopping on the converbelt unfortunatly she would just pile boxes on top of each other and OH had a right job packing things away, lol

Then after Sofia and her mum went home we had lunch and went into the back garden to clear out OH OLD garden shed that was full of plant pots, soil ,old bits of wood, thousands of snails and slugs YUK :-|
We have been offered a green house from the people who live in the house which is situated to our back garden , they have just moved in and have a young family and don't want the green house incase of accidents,
so we are pulling down the OLD shed and will put up the green house in it's place, OH will love that he has always wanted a green house , but other things have taken priority over it.

William,I have a friend who regularly gets pay outs from Ernie.I know she does have an awful lot of bonds. But she is always getting £100 .
I think I only ever had £1 bond.I seem to recall Hannah getting £50 when she was a little girl. One thing she bought was a Swing ball thingy for the garden.
In March we are meeting Hannah on her Birthday (and being introduced to her new man) :-D :-D She has booked a table for lunch at Gordons Wine Bar.Its just off the Embankment.Supposed to be the oldest Wine bar in London.Do any of you Londoners know it?Looks interesting and I think it's just lit by candlelight.
I remember when Wine Bars came into fashion.Ooh it seemed so cool and continental lol.

Oh Fiona what a nice gesture to be given a greenhouse.

Can't wait for a pic once it is up.

Oh has made me a smashing dibber for my gardening. It has measurements down the spike up to 4 inches deep. today he made a little bowl in oak.

Big steak and kidney stew on for tonight. Just what the doctor ordered for this kind of cold weather. Doughboys of course...... :-D diet or not. I now make mine like Mandy does with no suet, just flour and water so they must be better.

That audacious robbery in Manchester where they tunneled for 6 months under a car park to an in store ATM.There was only £2630 in it.
Doesn't seem to have been worth all that effort.

A couple of months ago in the Welbeck Road area of Newcastle a stand alone ATM was robbed while security guards were were attempting to load it with cash. The surrounding CCTVs had all been sprayed with paint reducing their visibility to NIL
