Oh Shirl Dinny do that.I have lost the plot ;-)...Remind me of the time difference between us.Do you get Christmas day before or after us here?I know Kim will probably be first.
Oh well 'tis Xmas eve tomorrow.Have you all got your stockings ready to hang up ;-)I bet Santa is working his socks off to get all the pressies ready for all the children.I used to love creeping up the stairs to leave Santa's presents ,and then cringing when I stood on the creaky floorboard :-|Holding my breath to see if the children woke up,and then with relief when all was quite falling into bed and praying I could get at least a few hours in before pillow cases were dragged onto our bed to show us what Santa had brought.
I remember now climbing into Mum and Dads bed so excited and getting this lovely half hearted enthusiasm from them saying " Oh that's nice .that's lovely, why don't you go back to bed now and have a good look at everything in the morning"They were probably exhausted lol and only been in bed for a little while.Oh those were the days :-D :-D

Tracey, I've always loved writing and I edit a magazine for the model vehicle club I belong to, that's where these tales have appeared before. My occupation was a technical illustrator and designer for Rolls-Rolls aero engines. So I've always been artistic too.

I loved Frank's mega post, we could have almost have crossed paths during the war, a lot of the places you mention are known to me. I had to chuckle about the flour paste glue, I'd almost forgotten that - way before the days of Pritt sticks!
Frank I don't think your Dad was a rogue, he was doing the best for his family at a very hard time, if he didn't take things either someone else would or they would go to waste. Remember the motto - waste not, want not, he was carrying out to the letter. The episode about the pram and the spuds had my sides splitting, I could just see it in my mind.
More Frank, more

Evening everyone,
Very windy and pouring with rain here ,was dry first thing ,we did manage to get the veg and fruit from the market before it started to come down.
Not at all cold though, we've just turned the heating off !!!

What a day ,the family have now gone all fed and watered !! the beef was lovely ,just a small piece left for a sandwich tomorrow lunch time .

Cooked my gammon today and tomorrow will make the sausage rolls and mince pies ,and DIL wanted me to make some Viennese fingers dipped in chocolate ,they are her favourite , also going to cook her piece of gammon tomorrow too.
The turkey's out of the freezer ,have left it in a big tub in the shed ,but we might bring it in later and leave it in the conservatory ,it might be to cold in the shed and will take longer to thaw out .

Maureen if you haven't already gone , have a lovely Christmas :-) :-) :-)

William another lovely story :-) it's just like listen with mother lol waiting for the next one :-) :-)

Time for a drink i think , and the sweet tin is out!! :-) :-)

Evening All,

Must be a record........it took 2 and 3/4 hours to cut and colour my hair this morning and it was so cold in there I had 3 cups of coffee!! (not often you hear me say I'm cold!!!!) They have a new 'shampoo' boy who is very nice and today my hairdresser was wearing a black satin floaty dress with sparkly gold tights and black suede bootlet things.

That is another great story William. It was just a small boy's dream present, A TANK, in war times. Interesting job you had. I know of a few people who worked for RR in the past. My ex BIL trained with them.

Frank, I can imagine there might have been a few grumbles at sitting on those lumpy spuds!!! I remember mum (youngest of 9) saying she would just get something like a knitted doll for christmas when she was little. In the fifties I remember I would get a big present like a doll's pram or 3 wheeler bike and then just a few cheap things. It was the same with my friends so we didn't feel hard done by. One year the big present was a home made doll's house with lights. ( I loved that!!). My sister and brother born 9 and 15 years later always had piles of presents. It is something that has grown over the years and I can remember a paddy when one of them didn't get what they wanted. I was just grateful for what I got and wouldn't have dared make a fuss!!! Yes Shirl, there were a lot of jumpers with a few stripes or stripey mittens and bonnets!!

Mel, I think that game with the stick that pointed was Magic Robot, he stood on a little round mirror in the middle........my best friend had one! I used to have a farmyard too.......in fact If I see the plastic farm animals on sale now I am drawn to them like a magnet!! lol I was mad on Roy Rogers and Trigger at age 5. I'm glad you are up and running at last! It has been pouring with rain here a lot of the day.

I have had a croaky sore throat today, so I'm hoping it doesn't get worse. OH collected the turkey this morning so we are all set now. He will prepare all the veg tomorrow while I get the sewing machine out to turn up trousers. He also needs 2 buttons sewing on.

My little great nephew is getting better now, but sister's MIL, who is younger than me is in hospital seriously ill with liver cancer and I don't think things are hopeful. She had breast cancer a few years ago. She lives on her own and it is such a shame as her first 2 grandchildren were born this year.

After a couple of days in I shall be ready for the boxing day sales Jane!! OH always goes to a match in the afternoon, so I think I shall be up early and off to Bound*ry Mill at Grantham. It will be a nice ride through Rutland, but I have to be there for when they open as I can't stand it when it gets busy a few hours later!! Their sales are usually very good and it is a huge store that sells everything. I don't go every year, but I think there will be good reductions this year with how things are.

Is that one of your designs William?
I wish I was artistic.I'm just useless .I don't even seem to be able to do a nice flower arrangement lol.Painting by numbers was my best attempt at art .

Well Chris has just cleaned the 'best ' cutlery ready for Christmas Day and a Candlestick (that I don't want to use) :-|.He now has 4 days off!,and is getting into the spirit of things ;-) ;-)

Hi Everyone

Nothing on the TV tonight so went for a bath,

OH cleaning the hall carpet at the moment down on his hands and knees. Because of all this wet weather and all the building going on I have had plastic sheeting down , but when daughter no 2 and boyfriend went home we put on the main hall light and noticed there were bits of dirt which had somehow missed the plastic sheet, so Oh decided to get the carpet foam out and give it a bit of a clean.

Probably tomorow when it's dry you will be able to see where he has cleaned and the rest of the carpet will look grubby, I better not say anything to OH as I know what will happen I WILL GET THE JOB TO CLEAN IT ALL, will wait till after the holidays and maybe get a carpet cleaner in.

Well I am ready for a drink, so will say goodnight

DIL is going to be up and about tomorrow for the Wilkinson's sale , they usually sell off all the toys at half price , what she wants to buy goodness knows !! she has already bought them all sorts !!!

I see Prince Phillip has been taken to hospital with chest pains !!!

I did'nt see that Ann I only saw some of Kirsty the other night. Will see if I can find it on replay later when oh plugs it in. Trouble is that I lose the net when he takes my plug out to put the box on.

Yes lovely story about the tank William. I do wish you and your family a very happy Christmas and a better year in 2012.

I used to go to Christmas parties with my grandad. They were held in the village hall at Woodford Bridge. Do you know it Frank. I think there may be a picture of one of the parties somewhere in the depths of mums old photo album. I remember the present I had at one of them was a plastic Davey Crocket fishing rod. The same year I received a Davey Crocket hat. Caught my first eel on that rod but could'nt land it so uncle Les helped and landed it for me without breaking my rod. The rod was a cream colour with a brown pistol like handle.
