Ann .We went to Cragside last year.But because of all the gales no-one was going to the coast and boat trips.Everyone and their Mother decided to go to Cragside lol.We arrived so late in the day we were too late to see around the house so paid a bomb to just get into the grounds and another bomb for a cup of tea and a cake each.
Yes we have joined the NT and will be going back there next week.It looks such an amazing place.I'm looking forward to it this year.
I have decided I can do no more tonight so will be up with the lark in the morning .

Yes David, the place is not too far from you is it. He invented and sold guns and lots of other things, didn't he. I see he gave his patents to the nation refusing to make any money from producing guns for his country........but had a profitable export trade!

Well, Stella went home yesterday!!! We had a lovely day with L and her entourage! She (Stella) was a very good girl, so all my concerns were unfounded! It does seem quiet without her. Nice sunny day here so Millie and I are planning a 'quiet' walk, then into the garden with my book! Hope everyone has a good day.

Well, Rutland was cold last night. Jan put the heating on for a while.

I was in the conservatory watching Chelsea. Well beaten by a better team. I also watched the Paralympics, absolutly amazing how they do what they do. The wheelchair basketball, had me in stiches. When they crashed and ended up upside down, but were up again in a flash.

I'm get to go the the North East. I keep saying I will. SOME DAY !!!!

Liz, nice you have a nice morning to relax in the garden.

Jan and Ros are off to Leicester to get some material, Jan, wants Ros to make her a blind for the downstairs loo. Ros bought her sewing machine with her, so I bet they will bo doing that this evening.

Conrad, has started a regular walk of about 3 miles around the village and part of Rutland Water. I am going to try the walk with him later. If I find it to much I can always turn round and come home.

Mel, Millie is much more settled now Stella has gone, Trouble was that S is only 18 moths old and wanted to play! Millie is 9 years and does NOT want to play and being boffed at was not her idea of fun, so from that point of view, yes M is happier on her own!!! Apart from that, they got on very well, no aggrevation at all, they even touched noses which was really nice to see; It was just the 'playing' or lack of it that was a bit of an issue!!!! I ended up throwing an old tennis ball umpteen times just to keep S amused!! Have mowed the lawn, cleaned Merlin's water bowl, and am now off to the garden. I is weedkilling in the paddock, another laborious job, but very necessary - we have to keep a weather eye out for Ragwort! So far we have managed to dig up the few plants that are in that area. Along the side of the road there is quite a lot which must be attended to!!

Dull here today , have just hung some washing out so will have to keep an eye out as we had a little drizzle earlier .

So you needn't have worried about having Stella then Liz, nice to know she settled in ok ,Millie will probably miss her after having her company for a while.

Hope Jane and Sheila have a good holiday and the weather is good for them both .

Not much happening here today , we have a few jobs to do in the garden , the trellis that holds the Honeysuckle up has come away from the wall again so we have to sort that out ,and there's always weeds to pull up.

Yes Frank it is getting a bit chilly 'up here'. lol. Conrad's walks must be really lovely and with Rutland Water being within reach too. Does he get to see the Ospreys on his walks? I love the mellow stone of the houses in the villages round there so you will enjoy your walk whether it is short or long.

Mel, I can't remember whether he did his own wallpaper. I remember the lift in the house being operated by water from a big pool at the top of the hillside and his turkish baths!! I only saw just the house when I went before, as my knees were quite bad then and walking across the rubbly carpark was a challenge as were the stairs!! Next time I want to see more of the grounds as well as I'm much more mobile and manage a few steps without problems.

OH is at another match! He has lots of notes to catch up on here the next few days so you may not hear from me very much.

They have printed my canal picture with the red boat in the local paper today along with some other entries.

The dreaded Ragwort is everywhere around here Liz!! All along the roadsides and some fields are full of it. I even saw a neighbour picking a bunch and bringing it home? :-S Not a very friendly chap so I never said anything, but I didn't think it a good idea for a vase. Apart from being poisonous the pollen can cause breathing problems, not what you want in your lounge. I think when workers clear lots of it they are supposed to wear masks. My friend with the ponies is always on the lookout for it. I'm glad Stella was such a good girl.........she will want to come again!! :-D :-D Millie must be back to enjoying the quieter life. :-)

tHEY HAD A THING ABOUT RAGWORT ON THE TELLY LAST WEEK SAYING HOW IT HAD DONE REALLY WELL THIS YEAR AND A MAN WHO KEPT A LOT OF HORSES was saying how it can cause liver failure in horses but there was no mention of how ALL of the plant is poisenous to people too. It makes you think how mnay children have tummy upsets and the doctors never think they may have picked wild flowers and put their fingers in their mouths after collecting the very nasty plant.

Sorry about the caps but I could'nt be bothered to rewrite that lot!!

Hi Shirl, I meant to say to see if you could get a pic of her in her uniform! She will like to look back and see herself in the uniform in years to come. I have a pic of OH's mother and his grandmother in their uniforms they wore at the cinema. FIL was the projectionist as I have said before, MIL was an usherette with the icecreams and grandmother looked after the cloakroom and issued the tickets. Remember that when you handed your coat in at the cinema and got a 'raffle' type ticket with a number on.

Mel, they think doctors are not aware enough of the link between some cases of jaundice and children eating Ragwort. I think it can be ingested through cow's milk too.

Here's a little fact for automotive buffs or just to dazzle your friends.

The four Goldberg brothers, Lowell, Norman, Hiram, and Max, invented and developed the first automobile air-conditioner. On July 17, 1946, the temperature in Detroit was 97 degrees.

The four brothers walked into old man Henry Ford's office and sweet-talked his secretary into telling him that four gentlemen were there with the most exciting innovation in the auto industry since the electric starter.

Henry was curious and invited them into his office.

They refused and instead asked that he come out to the parking lot to their car.

They persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130 degrees, turned on the air conditioner, and cooled the car off immediately.

The old man got very excited and invited them back to the office, where he offered them $3 million for the patent.

The brothers refused, saying they would settle for $2 million, but they wanted the recognition by having a label, 'The Goldberg Air-Conditioner,' on the dashboard of each car in which it was installed.

Now old man Ford was more than just a little anti-Semitic, and there was no way he was going to put the Goldberg's name on two million Fords.

They haggled back and forth for about two hours and finally agreed on $4 million and that just their first names would be shown.

And so to this day, all Ford air conditioners show --
Lo, Norm, Hi, and Max -- on the controls.

He had Altzheimers.

Very good David. I heard this morning about Max Bygraves, but didn't know he had Alzheimers, poor man. Not many of the old comedians left now are there. I wonder if Alzheimers is becoming more common or whether people are living to ages when they are more likely to develop it.

I wonder if Mandy got her garden jobs done and the Honeysuckle secure again. I spent the afternoon dismantling some necklaces for the beads.....have a sore finger now where the pliers rubbed. Tomorrow morning I am sealing off some bits between the rocks on the waterfall. The ants keep pushing soil where the water will hopefully flow and I don't want it getting in the pump when we put it in. It is black, foam stuff you spray and then trim when it is dry. Once you open it you have to use it as it is no good after......sounds messy, which is why I have been putting off doing it!!!! lol. :-S.

I noticed this morning that Max had died but thought you would have all seen it so did'nt comment.

I can remember seeing him in a film where he was walking across a ploughed field but can't remember what it was called. I was quite small and Max was quite young looking.
