My GF Tommy Atkinson seemed like a giant.
He married 3 times.Fathered 13 children in wedlock,God knows how many ot wedlock.
I remember as a little boy walking with him to the council depot where he collected his pension.Every one knew him.

I remember one day watching him put pennies into the gas meter.Yes pennies. That's how long ago it was.
I recall saying Grand dad, give us a penny.
What do you want a penny for he replied, you'll only buy toffee.
He wasn't wrong

:-) <3

I remember my dad used to wear a cap. Going back even further, everyone wore hats or caps depending on class. An old aunt used to wear her hat all the time, that way if someone called and she didn't want to ask them in she would say she was just going out, and if it was someone she wanted to see she would say she had just come in ;-)

That was interesting Ann reading about Erasmus Darwin, what a talented man, usually science boffins aren't very artistic but he seems to be both. Glad you liked the card, I must have a go at some new designs.

One more daughter Sheila to get married, although she lives with her partner and has Harry and another baby on the way, she would love to get married, partner says yes ....... some day ....... and son is getting married next May.

I'm taking a leaf out of your book Frank and have been looking on e.bay for a garden table, couldn't believe one came up in Pinner, that's about 4 miles up the road, just waiting to see what bids go on it now, fingers crossed. Hope you have a better night's sleep tonight.

Has the plumber been yet Jane, hope it's good news this time.

Your GF was a busy man David ;-)
Plumber been and gone.He seems sure it is a pipe under the kitchen floor and reckons the best thing is to disconnect whatever and feed some new ones through.Well that is the gist.So now I have to wait for his report to be sent which I will then forward on to the Insurance people and wait for their go ahead. That will be another couple of weeks then I reckon before anything starts.
Rachel ,Ethan and OH are coming to stay for a few nights around the 22/23 of this month.I think I might suggest they make plans to either book into a travel lodge or something just in case work is due to happen when they come.I couldn't cope with visitors as well lol.Plus there will be a lot of dust and noise which wouldn't be good for Ethan.
I've got a headache now :-S.The chap said that work would probably just take a day to do,but then it will be putting things right eg floor and decorating.I suppose if a bit of the concrete floor is dug up ,that will have to be re concreted .It would nice to think all will be done and dusted before our hols .
Sheila ,we go on holiday the same day as you :-D.

Now what to have for dinner?? Tomorrow I have insisted we will have a Chinese home delivery :-D

I may be off the computer for a time later as my new email address doesn't work for everyone.Chris is going to have a twiddle or whatever he needs to do to get it right.
Plumber who was here kept calling me Rose lol.I had to put him right in the end :-D.I think he felt a bit daft. But lots of people get my first and last name mixed up.
The carrots that I pulled up this morning aren't looking that clever. Not sure I will be cooking them :-S
Chris has just walked in so had better go and tell him what the plumber said.

Pheww!! Shirl.......that is hot compared with here!! I love the Queens Jubilee email too, brilliant photos.

Forgot to say what rotten luck your daughter being ill Maureen, nothing worse than feeling wretched far from home. Just love the story of your aunt and her hats!!!! lol.

Jane the plumber might be able to cut the leaky pipe at some point before it goes under the floor and connect a new bit along the garage wall then through the kitchen wall to where it needs to go........there might not be that much mess with a bit of luck. :-)

Well, FIL's car is a write off and will cost thousands to repair but the good news was that they will pay out what they paid for the car so they won't be out of pocket. OH rang the insurance to sort out about claiming the excess back as MIL was looking a bit glazed when he tried to explain. I don't think she realised you could. Typical though, did they sit quietly and listen while OH rang like I did......NO!! They started chattering away with FIL deciding at that moment to cut an address from one of those blister wrap packs. What a racket, we both had to tell them to shush!! Then MIL stood hovering over OH's shoulder and we had to tell her to sit down. Then FIL started to nod his head, so MIL leapt to her feet to shake his knee and tell him not to fall asleep.......more shushing ..... and why not he's 91!!!! Then the DONGING of the clock started!!! lol. When they have thought it over I think they will be keen to get another little car now. They have begun to realise how limited they are without one.

William Report 13 Jul 2012 20:33

Glad you had a good day Ann, 21 again eh? The only consolation with birthdays is - no ones getting any younger . . . .

The decorating is finished, TG, we have spent all afternoon and part of the evening restoring (almost) everything to as it was, or as near as. Isn't it amazing that decoarating one room can cause chaos in three others! :-0. Curtains and stuff to put back tomorrow, and anything that's not in the right place.

David, you saying about that clock. My Dad had a chiming mantle clock, and when we went visiting him in later years, (after my mother had passed away) we used to sleep in the bedroom above the clock. As you say, come midnight you had to listen to the darn thing chime twelve long and painful times. Sometimes, I'd sneak down when he'd gone to bed and turn the hammer round so we didn't hear it. I just had to be careful to be up before him in the morning to turn the hammer back the right way.
I gave that clock to my daughter after Dad died, but I don't think she ever winds it up, clever girl.

Ah well, back to the TENS machine . . . catch you all soon ;-)

Annx

Annx Report 13 Jul 2012 21:32

Thank you William........but OH says he will never catch me up!! In my early working years in the 70s I used to deal with people's pensions and at that time if you hadn't reitired by age 65 you were 'deemed' retired and got your pension anyway. I remember if any came in to see me in the office, at that young age I thought most looked quite old.......and now it is ME!!!!! lol. When I moved to another section dealing with younger people I had my trainer wiping her eyes with laughter. I was studying the photos on some passports and she asked me what was the matter. 'Well, they all look so young after the ones I have dealt with for the past 8 years' I said!!! lol.

I seem to have lost track of the days this week....keep thinking it is Sunday tomorrow! OH is off to watch his team play......should be interesting he says as the manager has just resigned .

Guess what..............we have rain and it is St Swithins

Frank Report 14 Jul 2012 11:39

Morning from a very wet Northampton. The local radio gave out flood warnings in a few villiages this morning. The wind has changed and we are getting the rain from ther NORTH. instead of the south.

We had a great evening last night. Every child in year 8 took part in "ANNIE" the pupils and staff, made all the scenery and props, did all the costumes. All the children were made up with dirty legs, faces, etc.
.

I am a very proud Grandfather today. Lewis has had his name engraved on a very old trophy that stays in the school. FOR being a very good leader in sport activities. He has been given a plaque to keep, with all his other Football cups, trophies that he has won.

We spoke last night about what he wants to do when he leaves school. He wants to go into 6th form, till 18, then university, to study SPORTS EDUCATION. I can see we will be dipping in where possible to help with all the expences. If I am still around. :-D :-D :-D

Glad they have found your problem Jane (ROSE) (HELEN) ;-) ;-) ;-) Leaky pipe, is what I thought it might be.

Ann, you and OH have your hands full with the inlaws !!! I can just imagine them fuffing around and not realy know whats going on. They are doing well though at their ages. GOOD LUCK TO THEM.

Soon be back to normal then William, it's allways the same one job makes half a dozen.

Shirl, Thanks so much for the video of the humming birds etc. You can't believe how maqn hours it must have taken to compile.

Ros has taken Lewis shopping with her and Martine. Then off to the Cinema, so HOME ALONE once again.

Heres one for you. Have you heard of a BABY PARTY ??? Lara (Julia's daughter ) is holding one next saturday. The baby isn't due till August/Sept. What's all that about. Ros, Jan, are going down to meet up with Lara, Julia and all her friends. Then off to the "DO" in Milton Keynes.

Maureen, Didn't see you there. Glad you have found a Table. What you must NOT DO is get involved in a bidding contest. (IT CAN COST YOU) put in a bid for as much as you want to pay, and sit and wait. If it go for less, that the price you pay, If it goies over, theres always another.

Jane Report 14 Jul 2012 13:18

Frank your emails have got through ,but now I can't send to you :-S :-S.I will have to see what Chris can sort out later on.
I can just see you with your puffed out proud Grandads chest lol.Well done LEWIS <3.Yes Frank I'm sure you will be digging deep to help out with Uni lol
I think the first term of the first year at any Uni is spent partying :-D

The rain has stopped now :-D and it seems to be getting brighter .Maybe the sun will break through this afternoon. The weeds seem to be taking over everything :-S

Annx Report 14 Jul 2012 13:40

Afternoon All,

Well after so much rain in the night it has now brightened with a bit of sunshine, so after my cuppa I shall nip to the dogs home with some bits and to look and see if there are any good jewellery bits in their charity shop.

Yes, you are right Frank, the In laws are doing well really for their ages and manage to do most things for themselves. They are a bit unworldly though, especially if someone (like a salesman) is nice to them.......will sign up for things with callers on their doorstep!!

Well done to young Lewis!! An old work colleague of ours has a son (also Lewis) who is studying at Worcester to get a Sports Education Qualification. I think he is aged 20 now, but he works at times in a garden centre at weekends/holidays and he has also got himself paid work helping with coaching somewhere........will ask OH where it is when he gets home. He loves it, it gives him some pocket money and he is gaining useful experience at the same time. I worked for his dad for a while and his dad worked very hard to get to the higher level he is at now (got an OBE this year) so I think he would expect his sons to help themselves as well.

That is a good idea Maureen, Frank seems to do very well with his 'buys'. You could also try looking on the preloved site. We advertised our old slabs that were left over on there and someone is collecting them tonight. :-D

Afternoon everyone,

Not a bad day here so far , some sun so we've been out on the front garden doing some weeding , then its off to the tip later .
While out in the garden we had music while we worked !! a pub has a music day and i think they must have been outside as it nearly deafened us!! it's an all day thing going on until twelve tonight !! i think they must have had complaints because its now gone off .

BIL is home , what a journey to get him home , the spray from the lorries on the bypass was awful, just like a thick fog, we're off to see him and sister tonight and have a Chinese meal with them .

Jane, glad to hear that the problem with leak has hopefully been found ,and that they soon get it sorted out for you .

Oh Ann, i had to smile about all the shushing you had to do at your inlaws :-D its so annoying when your on the phone and you have background noise .
So now will OH help them find another little car ?

So we have one happy and proud Grandad Frank :-D well done to Lewis
getting his name engraved on the school trophy <3

Oh hubby wants to go to the tip .

You need the patience of a saint with your inlaws Ann, but I guess we will be just the same, I'm already having difficulty with new technology :-0
What was that site you mentioned again? My son uses gum tree a lot but for selling rather than buying. I know what you're saying Frank, it is quite easy to get carried away with bidding, this table is on for 99p but has eight days to go so I'm sure it will go up a lot, I will keep a figure in my head and as you say, there's bound to be more.

As the weather is so bad today have finally started on my tax return, tomorrow is looking brighter so will be in the garden working on my little project.

Fingers crossed the plumber has found the leak Jane, I've still got the dishwater out in the middle of the kitchen, just have to wait till son has some spare time.

Good to see you back on here Shirl. blow some of that lovely hot weather our way PLEASE
