Berona you are far more technically minded and with it than I am. You frequently say you are doing this and that,and putting things onto discs etc - I can't do any of these things, can't even put photo's on Ancestry that I'd like to. I've never been shown how to do anything on computer, so what I can do is through experimentation. If I ask my grand daughter when she is here, she hasn't time to show me, but will do it for me, very quickly, but that isn't really much help. I should have stuck to my slate and chalk lol.

I always say I only use what I need to as far as electronic gadgets are concerned. There's so much I don't use a computer for but I'm quite good at research and FB. OH has a very fancy camera with various lenses and he takes very good photos but I like my little digital camera for quick snaps. I only want my mobile to make and take calls and the odd text message.
I must be off and get something done. I feel very lazy but I have stuff to catch up on. See you all later. Stay warm and safe Tec and look after the Duchess.
Have a good day Berona.

Hi all~~ Some brits are in bed but you can read this later
Tec, as you can guess I'm on hubby's laptop (so many spelling mistakes ) I don't like the touchpad on the laptop and was going to to suggest you put on a mouse , but reading back can see that your Duchess has tried that. When I use it at night it's on my lap, when we went to visit BILon Anglesey I used it on his kitchen table,much better cos your wrists knock some buttons if it's on your lap and everything goes haywire!.
I'm on my 5th mobile phone,the first 4 being pay as you go,the fisrt as Sue said was like a brick!! 2 of them have been hand me downs from son or dau upgrading theirs, I did have one of hubby's cast me offs too.lol. I had no choice but to change the last time , it wouldn't hold it's charge overnight. it's a good deal, it's on contract for 18 months, but every 6 months I claim money back by sending in my bills, hence I pay nothing for my call allowance of 120 mins per month. I mostly only it use to phone home or family mobiles, as we have free 01 or 02 calls from our landline(up to 90 mins)....that's inland calls .
I've just typed about 12 lines about yor Aussie weather... and its all gone, strange thig about these lappies. I retyoed in the morning on my old faithful. Nite from me~~ Have a good day down under::))

I too have to get a new mobile - I charge it and then the next thing it is bleeping at me wanting to be fed again.
Sorry to not being around... GR would not open for nearly 3 days so we had to do a restore and then the security was not happy at all so we had to do an update on that..... apart from that it is himself that has been on the puter most of the time.
We had adding machines where I worked but most of my adding up is done in my head, on paper and sometimes I do have a hiccup in subtraction. I started out as a teleprinter operator and then used these weird and wonderful business machines for telegram pricing. This was in the days when one had to do £.S.D and when we sold stamps we had to add up 1/3d and 1/6d and 2/9d etc in our heads. - now it all sounds positively Dickensian.
Do the children of today still do long division, long multiplication, simultaneious equations, converting decimals to percentages etc? I loved maths especially geometry but algebra got more difficult as I got older but I see the OH sometimes reverts to Algebra when he is working something out.
Hope all is well with everyone and you are feeling better Sue? See there has been floods in NSW and of course we keep seeing the British and the snow and the Spanish Air staff on strike.
Love Persephone ((xx))

Hello Perse - good to see you back again. It's not good without the old computer, is it? I start getting withdrawal symptoms as soon as mine misbehaves.
In my earlier post, I mentioned no calculators, etc. only adding machines and I did most of my maths in my head. I forgot to mention in the post that we were on pounds, shillings and pence too in my early days. After my big break to rear a family, I went back and found all these weird and wonderful machines - and maths were so easy because we had gone decimal by then. I still do the maths in my head and only use a calculator to check on my accuracy.

Yes I know Berona and the youngsters can take calculators into exams now. To think I would have to work out the square root etc in my head. I even remember doing accounting without use of a calculator.
What I forgot to add about my computer was that I was going to come on here late Saturday afternoon when we got back from shopping but was foiled yet again. Somebody accidentally chopped through a cable and three suburbs were left without phone lines. The link was not restored until late in the evening.
Women: With time, women gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy. Beginning today, when I look at my backside in the mirror I will think, Good grief, look how smart I am!
Must be where 'Smart A**e' came from!

Hi every one~~~
Bright blue skies , but still freezing here :(
Nice to see you back Perse:))~~ to Berona~~Hi :) I was an £sd person too. My dad was a genius at maths up to when he died at 90, my children ( now adults) used to phone him if they had a prob with their maths homework :) Sister passed pure and applied maths Grade 1, teachers used to compare me with her ( not really good to do that is it..? ).. I only got a grade 4 ,so I'm the duffer of the family!!lol Most peeps are so reliant on calculators is unbelievable ! Both my kids had A* GCE in maths, hubby has worked in finance /accounts all his life and is sharp as a pin with maths,
What's it with bottoms Linda..? No ----you bum doesn't look big in that :))
I used to be pear shaped, and once 13 stone..ugh for only being 5ft 4. Now I wear a size 10 in a skirt or trousers, but am a 12 or 14 up top and no I haven't got big boobs, I wish. Must be all the walking I'm doing:)
~~~ to everyone looking in later :)
Hello all. I know I've been remiss in coming in here recently. Trying to keep this place going on my own is somewhat daunting and definitely time consuming. I've also had a few visitors coming to see me which has been really nice.
I know this will probably make some of you surprised. But last week, for the first time in my 68 years, I used a lawn mower. Not only that, I did a darned good job with it, too. Grass is leaping out of the ground and needs to be mowed again soon. Also, I went out and bought a small $99 water blaster. Best buy I've made in years. Makes cleaning up after the birds sooo much easier. Plus can use it to hose off car, clean windows and screens, clean off verandah and porches. Just amazing. We have a large, industrial one but it's petrol and much to big for me to manipulate. This new one isn't even as big, nor as heavy, as my vacuum cleaner.
Will look in here again shortly to see if anyone is about.
Cheers, all.
Pam.
Hi Pam~~
Nice to see someone at this time of day:)
Heck lovely you must be brave using the mower, I gave up mine after the children were born.. youngest is 22. Our back garden is large tho and on a slope, front is flat, but I hate mowing now, does my back in whenever I try ! I'm 'only' 55. :( I do clear the snow tho with my snow scooper ( ask Berona ..I call it my magic shovel ) Cost £15 and one of the best buys I've ever made, to clear a snow fall cos it's so lightweight and the 'scoop' is very wide. No good now it's all frosted over tho, hubby will have to revert to the metal shovel !
Hope you are not experiencing the flooding we've heard about ?
Take care.x
How nice to see you Pam, I don't use the mower, OH does it, but over the years I have cut many lawns when he was working overseas. We have a jet washer in the garage, but never use it because our water is on a meter, so we pay for every drop we use. OH uses a watering can and a scrubbing broom to clean the patio stones. That is hard work, so if I ever have to start doing it, I will immediately revert to the jet wash without a thought to the cost.
I have just walked back from the tourist office and it is unbelievably cold,it is almost painful to breathe in.The deep snow is just packed solid and where the pavements have been cleared, they are now covered with a sheet of ice. I am glad to be back with the curtains closed and the heating turned up
Hello everyone - all warm and well? Going to be a warm one today and very humid. We still have rain on and off and very overcast but considering how other people are fairing with the floods I really shouldn't complain.
More housework to do today. I want to sort out my pantry before I do the food shopping for Christmas.
