Our snow has all gone from the roads and pavements, but everything is covered in ice - I couldn't open the lid of the wheelie bin this morning. I can see the A&E Depts will be busy in the morning.

I'll be ok Linda, I've put the stillettos away for the winter, back in my boots lol.

Yes be careful Tec - all of you be careful. No broken bones please!!

It isn't often we get overcast skies for days on end. It's very depressing as by now we should be getting days of sunshine and warmth. I can only imagine how difficult it is to get out when it's snowing heavily because I'm not keen on going out to the shops in the rain. Everyone wants the undercover parking and it's amazing how perfectly reasonable people will go crazy trying to get a park - even cutting off other people also waiting.

Sue, it seems that Tec is a cross dresser, is that allowed on your thread?

We get parking rage here too Sue, in the summer when the visitors are here - I find it very funny - I saw one guy get put to sit on the roof of his car by a much bigger guy. Had to look the other way with a fit of the giggles.

Sue - my mobile phone was a gift from my children about six years ago. My DIL has a book-keeping business registered and her phone plan includes $15 worth of free calls on an extra mobile phone - mine. It costs us nothing and they keep telling me "you never use yours". I already have a landline phone on a plan which includes my internet and free local/national calls - and I rarely make a phone call! However, I do keep it charged up, handy and I always take it with me when I go out - that's what they bought it for. They laugh at it now because it's "old" and I half expect to have it replaced when my birthday/xmas/mothers' day come around.

I have used it (rarely) to send the odd text, but I don't think I have ever made a call on it. I'm quite happy with it and don't need to replace it. It always reminds me of when I was a child reading Dick Tracy, Detective - an American comic strip - in which Dick could talk back to base on his wrist-radio. We thought that was hilarious to think that anyone could do that. Now, look what we have to-day!

Linda you'd be astonished at what goes on in these remote villages. LOL.

Berona I had the very latest mobile phone as a gift from my daughter last Christmas - it did everything, phot'os, video, all singing all dancing, I recently gave it to my grand daughter as I couldn't us it.
Bought myself a very simple mobile, just makes calls, texts, and receives them - nothing else. Wonderful.

Tec....10-18pm.

I just have a simple mobile as well Tec. The battery doesn't seem to be keeping its charge for as long these days,so I may change it fairly soon. I only use it for the odd call and text, but I like to take it with me when I am out in the car
The choice of new ones has me baffled though

I know it is early, but I am off to bed to watch TV for a while. I hope the sun comes out and shines on you down under. Keep warm and don't fall over Tec.
Goodnight everyone

SueMaid Report 5 Dec 2010 22:32

My mobile is also very simple - it was a cast off from my daughter. The kids have fancy ones that you use your finger to slide from photo to photo and various 'applications'. I sometimes chat on FB with my son in Hobart while he is supposedly working. He uses his mobile because he's not able to get on FB using his work computer. I remember - about 220 years ago - doing workplace wages on a very early computer. It was very simple to use allowing me to tax the wages plus add overtime.

The mobile I have now has slightly bigger keys, made by D*ro cost £60, excellent.

I remember the first ones that came out - they looked enormous and I vowed I wouldn't carry one of those in my handbag. Now I have to search to find mine if it rings. The good thing about mobiles is that you are 'contactable' at all times but that's the downside too. It amazes me that my children will ask where I am and how long I'm going to be out. If I dared to ask them that I'm sure I'd be told to mind my own business:-)) The funny thing is my mum will ring the house until I'm home but won't ring my mobile. I can't convince her that she doesn't need a mobile phone to ring mine - she can use the landline.

Goodnight Linda,
sleep well - try to keep warm,Tec.

Sue, The Duchess used a simple computer at work, years before I ever touched one - I thought she was terribly clever.

Sue, Maybe someone has told your mum that it costs more to phone a mobile from a landline lol.

SueMaid Report 5 Dec 2010 22:58

Tec - does the Duchess use the computer now? I was wondering too if she would appreciate the set up that Linda has treated herself to for Christmas. I like books but Linda's idea of taking the Kindle on holiday is a good one. I read a lot on holiday too although I usually don't take books to the UK when we go. I find the family have plenty to read and I will buy the odd one then leave it when I come home. The biggest problem I have is buying books from various places we have visited. I can go overboard then need to post them home.

Sue, I got OH a laptop some time ago, as she said she wanted one. She wanted to e-mail her sister who lives in Hong Kong, and she buys books from the internet, but she never got into it really, and found the touchpad or mouse too fiddly. She gave up eventually which was a shame - now she reads a lot.
I have mentioned the e-books but she's not keen.

Now you're making me feel old sue. I my early working days, we only had Adding Machines - no calculators or photocopiers, or electric typewriters, let alone computers!
After sixteen years at home, using a manual typewriter for club work, I went back to the work force - and it all snowballed from there! Now, I only like to have the latest in electronic gadgets, even if they do leave me flummoxed on how to use them.
