Berona Report 17 Nov 2010 21:46

Hello all. I didn't have much to catch up on to-day - where is everybody?

Sue - that sprinkle yesterday, stopped and the day turned out quite nice. Not a lot of sun, but no wind either. Hope the rain stopped down your way too. To-day is sunny, clear blue sky. I'l better not say any more in case the Brits think I'm being nasty. Don't mean to be - just hope they are keeping warm. I would like to share this weather with them and we would all be happy then.

Hi Linda,
I watched the match for a while, but gave up, and went up my tree. OH is now watching CIS I think on Five - worse than watching England play football lol.
Tec.

Hi Tec - the weather is looking fine this morning. Sunshine and very little cloud. I'm not looking at the forecast - I'll just take it as it comes.

Hi Linda - yes I am thank you. A couple of phone calls went some way to making things a little better.

Good Morning Berona,
I never think you're being nasty telling us how nice your weather is. It's rather comforting to know the weather is nice somewhere, even if we can't share it with you.

Hi Sue,
Glad you're having a better day.
Is it nice enough weather wise to go out somewhere today?

Hello Berona - the rain had stopped by lunchtime but it didn't brighten up and it rained overnight. Today it's looking good and - yes Tec - nice enough to go out for a drive.

I am glad about that Sue.

I have been busy all day as I will be for the foreseeable future. I must be mad, well I am mad.
The council are closing the tourist office down, or at least stopping paying the wages and all the bills.
They want the volunteers to take it on, but not in the present building. They want to close down the toilet block which is in the market place and they are going to convert it into the new tourist office. Not as bad as it sounds because the building is architecturally very nice and would convert well.
They will subside it for a year, but then we will be on our own. It is a huge challenge and setting it up as a not for profit organisation etc is going to take huge amount of work.

Oh Diane, that is excellent news, i am so pleased that you got in contact with them and asked for the cancellation appointment

Linda - where is your funding coming from after the subsidy finishes.

Diane Report 17 Nov 2010 22:09

I'm made up too that I contacted them and the fact that the woman I spoke to live's by me ( but don't know her ) and she was so sypathetic for me, it has given me faith in a person's word as she promised me if one came available she would put me forward for it and it seem's she has done exactly that. Usally they say these thing's and don't carry them out but for once it seem's some-one on the other end of the phone was really listening when I said I was in a lot of pain.

We will get free rent and rates for the first year, plus a subsided rent (hopefully peppercorn for the next two years), Everything else will have to be paid from income. we will sell goods, but not as much as we do now, We will hopefully be able to get money from the local accommodation providers by providing a bed booking system for them. Apart from that, it will be fund raising initiatives and any funding streams we can find from local or national businesses.
The problem is that the other smaller tourist offices around here which had their council funding withdrawn three years ago are all tiny concerns. they are run by volunteers but their overheads are tiny in comparison. They are asking us to run a full size retail outlet

Diane

Diane Report 17 Nov 2010 22:16

Just like the Council Linda, they want something for nothing and if they can get away with it then that's fine by them.

Are you able to get sponsors and also government grants, Linda? I'm also wondering who will put up the money to stock the shop initially. Are you able to take the stock from the existing shop?

Diane - it's good that this woman has kept her promise. Nice that someone is looking after you.

I'm so glad, Diane. Only one more week and you should know something. Hopefully, what is causing it and what can be done about it.
It's good when people listen and are willing to help.

The waiting list for our dental dept. was six months. My dtr met a friend she had worked beside for years elsewhere and the lady said she now works at the dental dept. Dtr told her I had been waiting more than two years for my appointment. Next day, the lady rang to ask if I had ever had a life-threatening illness. No. She said "I didn't think so, but she is on the list of people who have and that is more than a three year wait". She changed me over to the other list and I was called in a few weeks later.
I was never asked about my health so I still don't know how I was put on the wrong list.

Yes Sue it is nice to see some-one keep to their word and not just fob you off as is so often done.

It is early days Sue, we don't know all the details, but they are giving us the stock, plus a start up grant, we also think we have secured a fairly large start up grant from somewhere else. They are saying that they are not going to set us up to fail, but we will have to see how it all pans out. A small group of us have been doing a lot of work on it, but it is very daunting

Diane, when I was helping mum, I always found that if I rang the secretary's and explained the problem to them, they were always keen to help

Hello Diane,

What brilliant news, so pleased that at last something is happening for you, and quicker than you thought. Lets hope they can really do something to alleviate the suffering - no one should live in pain.

Linda you are very brave taking that on - I hope it works out, and that you don't work yourself into the ground.

Tec.
