Good evening/ morning all

Sue I hope the weight isn't to heavy on your shoulder's hun :( and hope the sad face is soon like this :))

Hi Tec, glad you got your bilb's in before you got any frost, we have had it for a few day's here, the council even gritted the road's last night.

Amanda, my grand daughter's used to like playing bowl's when they were the same age as your grand daughter. If I was there on the day they played, either working or just with them we used to get the games discounted because I work at the Hollywood Bowl's.

Pam your jouney sound's very tiring and a long day hun, a nice soak in the bath when you return and then bed I would think.

Hi Berona and Carole hope you are both well today.

Good evening Linda you arrived as I was typing, hope you have now warmed up after your walk home in that frosty weather.

I must admit that it is nice to be inside the house Diane, all warm and cosy

Hello Diane,

We haven't had a frost yet this year, we don't usually get one until January.

Berona I would love to have cockatoos in my trees, I would put up with the noise and the mess - we get flocks of jackdaws, real hooligans, and also very noisy.

Linda I hope you were suitably wrapped up for your walk in the cold tonight, we don't want you sniffing again.

Tec.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 16 Nov 2010 22:18

I was wrapped up well Tec, complete with fleece hat. It has been so cold here all day that I was well prepared.

Berona

Berona Report 16 Nov 2010 22:27

The main pipeline for the Sydney water supply runs through our area and is fenced off for security. A big community of Galahs have claimed that as home and there is no need to mow the grass. They look after it by pecking at it.
Linda - every morning a very big flock of the cockatoos fly over this area. Don't know if they are the same as those who live in my dtr's tree (she is only 2 to 3 miles from me) or if they come from somewhere else. Sometimes, they just fly and if you don't look up, you miss them - but at other times, they all seem to be screeching at once as they fly over - and we can't possibly miss them - we hear them coming!

We have lots of wood pigeons in the garden, they make a racket, but not as bad as you have to put up with Berona, but ours are boring colours as well and not pretty like yours

My goodness, you lot. How do you stand living in such cold places. I can't handle the winters in Sydney let alone what you people are talking about. Just goes to show that what I've said for years is true. I'm strictly a tropial bird.
P. :))

LindainHerriotCountry Report 16 Nov 2010 22:35

lol Pamela, this is only mild compared to the real winter

Pamela

Pamela Report 16 Nov 2010 22:35

Berona, depending where in Sydney you live it's quite possible that some of the birds flying over top are Corellas, not Cockatoos. Corellas look almost exactly like the cockatoo except they don't have the sulphur crest. When I played golf at Muirfield there on Barclay Road, at North Rocks we used to have the devil's own job with corellas tearing up the greens. They go in search of the grubs in the thatch under the turf. Now, cockatoos feed differently, they eat seeds than are on the trees as well as the fruit. And yes, they are very social animals, Tec. Mine love me to go out there and talk to them. Pebbles demands 'scratch, scratch' which means I have to scratch his body all down under his wings.

Diane Report 16 Nov 2010 22:39

I can't stand the cold either Pam, but I have no choice unless I win the lottery :(

Pam,

We're a hardy lot up here - I can remember as a boy making a hole with my finger in the frost inside the bedroom window to peep out. Also I remember waking up to find a thin coating of ice where my breath had frozen on the top of the blanket near my mouth.
We didn't have centrally heated houses in those days.

I have just seen the forecast Tec, it looks like you are going to get wet.

I remember ice on the inside of the bedroom windows as well Tec

Diane

Diane Report 16 Nov 2010 22:43

Tec I too remember day's getting up and seeing jackfrost in leafy pattern's on the leadlight window's in my bedroom and making a hole in it to see the grass all white with the frost, cold cold winter's a bit like last year Brrrrr

It makes me feel cold just to hear about the frost.

Corellas are often seen here in parks or the traffic islands on roads - in fact anywhere there is a patch of grass. We often have galahs on our front lawn.

I thought I'd make mention of the announcement of Prince William and his lady's engagement. What wonderful news for the UK and your economy. Isn't it also the Queen's Jubilee in 2012? Another boost for the economy. I hope we'll be in England when the wedding takes place. We were in England for the Queen Mother's 100th Birthday.

Yes Linda tomorrow looks horrible, wet and windy again. I will find something useful to do indoors, but I spent all today in the garden, good job I did.
I don't know how we survived such cold houses - I think we've all gone soft. I always had chilblains on my toes and ears every winter - never seem to hear of them now.

Diane keep doing the lottery, you can a house in Florida lol.

Good evening Diane ..... I hope your well this evening .

I used to love the frost patterns as a child , I was gazing at them in my greenhouse last winter : )

OH moved the bird table thing today , he had made a sort of metal platform with a roof a few years ago and put it atop the linen post , the birds have never taken to it , I don't think they like he roof . Anyway , it was replaced today with a wooden tray that I made in carpentry back in my school days , hopefully the birds will be safe and we might attract a few more this winter .

The news is all about William and Kate Sue. I thought it was strange that she has Diana's engagement ring

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 16 Nov 2010 22:57

Yes Sue, It is good to have some happy news amidst all the gloom and doom we've endured lately in the UK.
They are coming to live in North Wales, on Anglesey where William is an Air-Sea Rescue helicopter pilot.
Good luck to them both, I hope they are allowed some privacy away from the lunatic papparazzi.

Tec.
