You really don't need to rush off just because I'm here, Diane - I won't scold you.
I've given up on trying to make you go to bed when you are working next day. You must have more stamina than I've ever had.

Silly me, it is morning for Sue and Berona,so i should have asked you what you were going to do today not what you had done

At the moment, I have to move closer to my front door because I have a grocery order coming between 10 and 2, and my doorbell has died on me. Needs a new battery.
Otherwise, no plans. Might look for a recipe for the wedding cake I am to make for Amanda's wedding.
Cheers - everyone! Talk again later.

Don't know if anyone's about at the moment. But I'll put my stuff in here for you to read when your are about.

Went to the accountant and all is well. I will get some money back this year, which is good to know.

Today I was early for the accountant so I went to the St Vincent de Paul shop which is next door to the accountant's office and they have a shopping trolley full of shoes. Second hand of course, but all in good condition, for $2 pair. I noticed they had some very nice ones in my girlfriends size so I just phoned and told her about them. She's going to go take a look. She is very poor and her last pair of shoes I bought for her because we were going out to lunch and the only pair she had were falling apart. When I arrived she was trying to stick them on her feet with sticky tape. I just couldn't believe it!!! Anyway, she tells me that she doesn't wear any shoes most of the time now because she doesn't want to ruin or wear out the ones I bought for her.

Work tended to be a bit of a fizzer. Because I did such a good job in the first 6 weeks of the campaign I have very little left to do. This work period I only had 6 households left to interview and I've already done 2 of them. The rest but one of the people are still away working and one I can't get to the front door because they've put up a makeshift fence and behind the fence there are 2 dogs who barked vociferously without tails wagging when I went up to the fence. I am not !! going in there. I'll try to phone them instead, I think. I'll ponder on that. Too easy to say no over the phone. hmmm. c'mon brain, get out of work mode.

So, here I am, home by 6pm. Birds were happy to see me. Cage out the back which the snakes seem to like is quiet and peaceful. I"m hoping it will stay that way. Peter isn't home tonight. Probably working; so I won't be able to call on him.

James tells me there's a couple of long handled cane knives around here that I'll need to find. (He can't remember where he put them !!) If I use one of those he reckons I could kill the snakes myself. Don't know that I'm all that fond of that idea. Don't particularly like to kill anything really. But if you have to do it, you have to do it, eh?

Well, I'm off to read a book. Reading about Peggy Guggenheim. What a controversial lady she was. Any of you heard of her? She was quite outstanding in the art world in London and Paris in the 1930's and 40's. Of course, I wasn't around then - haven't even been to London - but mean I wasn't born then. But I find her life quite fascinating. Heard a review about her on the ABC World Service (radio) and decided to get the book about her.

I'm off ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ see ya later.

Pam.

The rain is coming off the mountain in sheets, horozontally, in a gale force wind. A thoroughly miserable day, in contrast to yesterday that was like a summers day with clear blue sky and brilliant sunshine, if a little cool.

Clive has been bellowing for hours, with his head over the stone wall. I went to stroke his face and he quietened for a while, but is at it again now. I would also bellow if I were stuck out there in this weather.

Pam, I hope your friend found some shoes to fit. When I read of someone in that unfortunate position it makes me appreciate how lucky I am to be able to afford the necessities of life. Everyone is entitled to a roof over their head, clothes on their back, food on their table, and shoes on their feet. It isn't much to ask for in life.
I have this mental vision of you wrestling a python armed with a cane knife - do you ever feel like Indiana Jones?
Never heard of Peggy Guggenheim, but she sounds like a very interesting lady of my time, I was around in the 40s and 50. I will Google her.

Tec - Who has done nothing today, because that is how he felt.

Tec ...commiserations on your awful weather , I don't know who Clive is ( but am guessing a Horse maybe ? ) , it sounds to horrid fro any creature to be out , poor thing : (

It has been cold and wet here all day as well and now the wind is starting to get up to .

I went to the dentist this morning , he says the infection was definitely from my partially erupted wisdom tooth and that I'm to use an antibacterial mouth wash morning and night and go back in two weeks , if it is playing up again by then he will put me down to have it removed in hospital as it can't be done at the dentists .

Pam , I hope your friend managed to find some more shoes that suit her purposes , I have been in the position of having to put bags on my feet before putting on my only pair in the past , so she has my sympathy .
Just wondering if you folk that live in other parts of the world have " charity shops "? ( as in , people donate there unwanted clothes / shoes etc etc and the shop re-sells donated items at very reasonable prices and the proceeds go to which ever charity the shop supports . I buy lots of clothes etc from charity shops .

~~~~~~ to everyone , especially Diane : )) It's good to see you've been about x
Hmm, covers up my numerous pairs of shoes
It has been a horrible day here as well, raining all day. I decided to do some serious housework, rather than the laughable stuff I usually do. I crawled about on my hands and knees and thoroughly cleaned the wooden floor in the kitchen. This is in preparation for oiling the boards before I go to bed tonight. I decided to get the oil out,but it seems to have disappeared. OH has been clearing out the garage, but he hasn't thrown the jar out - like heck ha hasn't. That meant a trip to the nearby town to buy a new tin, so while we were there, we went to the garden centre for lunch. The food is very good and Tuesday is 20% off for pensioners day,so we took advantage of that.
We also bought some garlic bulbs to plant on the allotment and I was delighted to find a new hanging basket of the same type I had just thrown away because it was a bit tatty. It has a water reservoir in the bottom,so only needs watering once a week
Amanda, i am pleased that you have finally seen the dentist and are getting treatment
Who is Clive Tec?
Tecwyn
Tecwyn Report 26 Oct 2010 20:22
Good Evening Amanda,
Good Evening Linda,
Clive is a magnificent specimen of a pedigree Welsh Black Bull. He has won many top awards at shows, one and a half ton of solid muscle, built like a tank. Has his own herd of Welsh Black cows, and has fathered countless calves. Bit of a pussy cat really, knows his name, and comes trotting over if he sees me and Ianto. It is however, not advisable to trespass onto Clive's territory when he is entertaining his wives - he is funny that way. Likes his forehead scratched, and his ears stroked.
Amanda it's good you've seen the dentist with that troublesome tooth. I was somewhat alarmed at something you said however, until I read on
" go back in two weeks - if it is playing up again by then he will put me down" phew! I though that was a bit drastic.
Linda, I have four of those hanging baskets with reservoirs in them, and a little tube to pour the water in - good aren't they? I buy new chains for mine each year as they tend to rust.
Now that you've bought a new tin of oil for the floor, the old one will doubtless turn up - usually the way.
Tec.
Good Evening Linda and Tec ,
Trust you Tec to pick up on my earlier wording ....lol......fingers crossed that the tooth stays quiet now .
Linda , that wood oil is expensive stuff , I hope the old bottle turns up as Tec has predicted .
Clive sounds splendid , is he very old ?
Hi Amanda,
I think Clive is about 7 yrs old now - I think he went into his shed when it got dark as he stopped bellowing then.
G'day everyone. (G'day being distinctly Aussie and esp. in Queenland)
Like you Tec, I got a little taken aback at Amanda saying the dentist was going to 'put me down'. I had visions of getting a lethal injection at the vets.
Which brought me to another thought. You know how they talk about lethal injections to put criminals to death in the US? Well, I was reading a book one time about a person who was put to death that way and they strapped him down to the board that he was laying on and it was a most unpleasant way for him to go. Thrashed about madly after the injection was administered. Obviously they don't use the same stuff the vets do, I would say.
Enough of that gloom and doom though. No, I can't say I feel like Indiana Jones at all but I do wonder at my sanity at the time. Like 'why am I doing this?' - 'why am I living here?'. Then I wake up to a morning like this one where the sky is clear and has a lovely rosy glow just before dawn, the birds are just starting to twitter in the trees, went out to the laundry to get something and there perched on the edge of the wash tub is our resident golden brown frog after having his bath in the little bowl I leave with water in for him for that purpose. Looks like another lovely day today so I think I should be grateful.
Yes, (can't remember who mentioned it now) we do have those charity shops here in Australia. We have St Vincents de Paul (my daughter used to call it Vinnies 'In' Shop) also Red Cross have one down at one of the shopping centres and the Endeavour Foundation has one up here also. Not to forget the Salvation Army. Lots of people I know do their shopping there. Especially up here where you need to wear cotton in the summer and it doesn't last all that long.
Another thing I just thought of. Someone said they couldn't spellcheck on their Genes site. Have you tried putting your cursor on the underlined work and right click? That brings up a spellcheck on mine and even allows you to add a word is it's spelled to your liking, into the dictionary. One way to overcome the American spelling which most spellchecks are.
I mean, how dare they change the sacred English language to suit themselves? Hmm come to think of it, they change a lot of things to suit themselves, Even golf rules. But then, I suppose that's the reason they left England to go to America in the first place. So they could do it 'MY Way:.
Good evening Tec and Amanda
So Clive is a bull and Likes his forehead scratched, and his ears stroked. Typical male really
The garden centre had a big pile of brown hanging baskets, but only three green ones which had been left in the rain,so were looking all soggy. Only one of them had the chain and it looked in a real state,so they gave me a big discount on it. That was fine because I knew OH had kept the chain off the old one.
Hello Linda Amanda and Tec......oh and of course Clive:-))
Sorry to tell you this but our weather was glorious yesterday and looks like being as lovely today. It was so nice that we took a drive up the mountain and visited Bowral which is where our famous cricketer Don Bradman grew up and first started playing cricket. The town is only about 40 minutes away. We have to drive up a winding road through rainforest to get there but it's worth the drive as the Southern Highlands are beautiful at any time of year. We then drove onto a smaller town and had lunch before wandering around the little shops and then driving home. A very relaxing day.
Amanda I hope the mouth wash fixes the problem as I'm assuming you may have a long wait for a hospital appointment?
We do have charity shops here - St Vincent de Paul's and the Salvation Army are the main ones. I usually go there for books and when there the other day I picked up a couple of nice old baskets for $2 each.
I've never been in the position of only having 1 pair of shoes although my parents certainly didn't have much when we were growing up.
Hi Linda, Sounds like a great bargain you got there.
When things like your chain get saved around here, by the time you buy the other part to go with it the chain has gotten put away, somewhere safe, so you'll know where it is, but then someone must have moved it...... it's not where I'm sure I put it.
