I have the Phillimore Index of Parish Registers. The Index lists the parishes, it indicates the present whereabouts of original registers and copies, and whether a parish is included in other indexes. It also gives registration districts and census information. For example - If your rellie came from a parish called 'Woughton on the Green' which is in Buckinghamshire I could tell you that the original deposited registers can be found at - Buckinghamshire Records Office, County Hall, Alyesbury HP20 1UU, and cover the dates 1556-1997. The I.G.I. covers Woughton on the Green between 1558-1876. Local Census indexes include 1851, 1881 and 1891. Copies of the registers at the Society of Genealogists cover 1558-1812. And the registration district for Woughton on the Green between 1837-1851 was Newport Pagnell. Pallot's Marriage Index covers the parish between 1790-1812. This guide to parish registers covers England, Scotland and Wales. I would be very happy to look up the information on any given parish. THREAD CLOSED FOR EASTER HOLIDAYS Cheers Michelle

Gloria Maybe not so good (as ever!!) for Scotland. All related records are centrally deposited at New Register House, Edinburgh. The dates of commencement of depostied original registers are given - for Douglas from 1691-1855 (when General Registration begins in Scotland) There are no indexes prepared whcih are comparable with local marriage indexes, Boyd's or Pallot's, nor any significant number of transcripts of registers held in any one place. The IGI covers deposited registers, non-conformist records and all original parish registers have been separately filmed and indexed on microfiche. These are indexed by county and thereby form indexes of marriages, births and deaths, or baptisms and burials. They are widely available inb libraries and societies' collections. The Scottish societies can provide further details; The Scottish Genealogical Society, 15 Victoria Terrace, Edinburgh EH1 2JL The Scottish Association for Family History Societies, 51/3 Mortonhall Road, Edinburgh EH9 2HN. Scottish genealogy is painful on the wallet if you don't live up there!! My rellies come from Douglas and Biggar in Lanarkshire!! I do however have Monumental Inscriptions for St Bride's Church Douglas Lanarkshire (pre 1855) if that's of any use!! cheers Michelle

Maureen and Denise Sorry I only have the parish index that tells you where a particular parish's registers were deposited etc - I don't have the records to look up. I would ask for a look up from the BIVRI (British Isles Vital Records Index) The best I could do would be to give you the county Record Office address if you don't know the parish or the County Family History Soc address. I do have the BIVRI and will be happy to look up for you as long as you don't mind waiting for replies till tomorrow!! Cheers Michelle

Michelle, thanks for the offer. I have a birth in 1835 at Ford's Buildings, Battersea, London. He has a sister who was buried and another who was baptized at St. Mary's - Battersea. I'm hoping since one sister was older and the other was younger, he might have been baptized there too. Thanks. Margaret
