Hi Michelle Many thanks for the Bredon, Kinsham, Ashchurch info. This will be very very useful, particularly the Kinsham info as I wasn't even sure it had its own parish records and thought it was 'lumped' into Bredons. Thanks again. Some good hunting grounds there. Barbara

Margaret Archives of the Catholic Church in Scotland The Archives of the Catholic Church in Scotland are divided between Columba House (the national repository) in Edinburgh and the individual dioceses. The division is different in almost each case, but generally, the Dioceses of Aberdeen, Argyll and the Isles, Dunkeld, Galloway, Motherwell and St Andrews & Edinburgh have located the bulk of their historical records at Columba House, leaving more current records within the Diocesan Offices [whilst the Dioceses of Glasgow and Paisley maintain their own Archives]. The Scottish Catholic Archives and the Archdiocese of Glasgow Archives are participating archives in the Scottish Archive Network (SCAN – http://www.scan.org.uk). Hello and many thanks for your offer. I would like to know about Bures. Not sure if it is in Essex or Suffolk or if there are indeed two places by the same name. There may also be Bures Hamlet, which I believe is Essex. Any help gratefully received. Helen

Helen From what I can gather Mount Bures is in Essex and Bures St Mary is in Suffolk - Bures Hamlet was split between the two following transfers of land: in 1884 the Thatchers Arms public house and 12 houses to Mount Bures from Bures Hamlet, and 5 houses in Heards Road to Bures Hamlet from Mount Bures; and in 1889 Spring Gardens with 3 houses to Chappel from Mount Bures, and a small area to Wakes Colne, and a small area to Mount Bures from Chappel. 'ST. MARY BURES, a parish in the hundred of Babergh, in the county of Suffolk, but extending also into the hundred of Hinckford, in the county of Essex (1868).
