I was brought up RC though my Dad wasn't but we never ate meat on Good Friday even my Dad.Though my wife is not catholic either she has been brought up not to eat meat on Good Friday either. It doesnt bother me because I love fish anyway. But I can remember the time when I was young when catholics didnt eat meat any Friday.Do you still follow this old tradition? Dave

Dave, we always have fish on Good Friday. Tandoori Cod at lunchtime, this year. You really must try the recipe I posted for you. If you are wondering why I am still awake. See my new thread. Jenny xx

Hi Dave. I also was brought up RC. Although not as religious now as i once was as a child, i still do not eat meat on good friday. It is only one day out of 365 days, and it is my way of respecting my faith. We will be eating fish to-night for dinner, as will my children and grandchildren. Tony Oz

Friday was a real penance at my convent school, usually horrible boiled cod complete with bones and lumpy white sauce (I privately believed it was Polycell). Then, whooppeee, every now and then fish and chips instead. It caused me to hate fish, in any other form than battered, for years. Love it now - but still hate to find bones. However, you can take the girl out of the convent but you can't take the convent out of the girl so I sill usually eat fish on Good Friday, even though I am no longer a practising Catholic. Was brought up RC. Don't follow all the rules but don't eat meat on good friday, mum would know even though she isn't in my house and i would feel guilty anyway, same as missing midnight mass christmas eve, christmas is not the same for some reason, stupid i know. Jan

Fish was always on the menu on Fridays at school. I still think of Friday as 'fish day' but I don't necessarily observe it. I think we will be having vegetarian tonight. nell

Yes, usually fish on a Friday, but if not fish then omelette etc. but not meat. Nothing to do with religion, but at home we never ate meat on a Friday and I'm carrying on tradition. Sylvia xxx
