Am just back from hospital having been there for 5 hours with Basil - he is now down for surgery later today - it is an appendix but they are muttering about colon. Hasn't been well since Wednesday and I and husband looking after him. Some of you may recall giving me support 3 months ago when I lost my dearest friend Linda - Basil is her husband. Your thoughts and prayers for him please. Thank you UPDATE - undergoing investigative surgery this afternoon - have added to thread. 2nd UPDATE - just had phone call from hosp. from his brother - Basil will be OK - had an infection in lower bowel/colon, was in theatre 3 hrs, recovery 4 hours. Main thing is Basil will be OK - I was beginning to panic after all this time even husband getting jittery as at 8.00 p.m. dau. could not get info from hosp except he was still in recovery so with her uncle she went there - expect I will get more detail from her tomorrow - she must be shattered - has had about 3 hrs sleep in past 36 hours. Thank you all for your support. Ann

Thank you one and all for yur support - latest is that Basil is going for investigative surgery this afternoon. Am still in bathrobe - got wakened at 10.30 a.m. with someone at dorr wanting to know where someone lived! Made a cuppa sat down and Basil's brother arrived from London - he has just gone - he too lost his wife 7 weeks before Basil lost Linda. I keep telling his brother and dau - he will be OK - Linda will see him through. If friends don't look after each other it would be a very sad world. On another note - I went outside for a ciagette and coffee about 2.a.m. and a young girl in army clothes began to talk - she had O.D'd earlier in the day - in army 4 weeks and aged 17. As an ex-Samaritan I talked to her but I also let rip and asked that if she had been successful did she realise the extent of the guilt she would leave with parents, siblings and friends. I told her that nothing but nothing was worth taking your own life and to be honest she does not know why she did it! She likes the army and wants to be a medic. Hope I helped her - she said I did. Thank you again will keep you posted when I hear something. Ann Ann
